That's awesome! On both things.
Anyon know if using BAMT would work? Or have a recommended distro?
I would guess BAMT will work, thats what I plan on trying it on. It may not work with all the automated stuff BAMT can do, however. I dont think Java is included with BAMt either.

did you update the firmware on the MMQ? it requires a firmware update http://btcfpga.com/files/firmware/modminer092612-TLM.bin

you can see if your connected to /dev/ttyACM0
by doing
# ls -l /dev/ttyACM*
for further tech support I would suggest going to our irc channel #btcfpga on freenode irc

Gotta post what just happened: Hello Cablepair If you would like to convert your un-shipped ModMiner Quad order to a bASIC order please email me to arrange this. (I reserve the right to approve and deny these requests on a case by case basis) I also will be offering rebates for current ModMiner Quad owners who wish to do a trade in closer the bASIC ship dates, more details to come soon.
I would LOVE to - my order number is 181. You also wouldn't need to answer the open questions about the 5V and the measurements anymore! By the way, I live in China and if you need dirt-cheap housings I maybe could be of help. many thanks, el_rlee PS: Also sent to your email Confirmed. Can you get other things dirt cheap? do you have connections in manufacturing? I do a lot of business in china. thanks hi, you just sent me an USPS shipping notification... is that a mistake? LOL I just realized you wanted your order converted to bASIC looks like you just got a free ModMiner Quad Enjoy! Man. I'm speechless! I LOVE IT! Sooooooooooooooo AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Tom:
1) Any info on the approximate size of the new devices? Will they be around the same size as the Mod miner quad? 2) I'm guessing you are working on making sure the devices runs as cool as possible, but once that has been achieved, are you and your team placing much emphasis on keeping the fans quiet?
Thanks for any info.

I'd also like some info on what will be needed to run these. I'm sure people want to have everything ready for these to run as soon as received, considering a few days can make a huge difference due to soon to be skyrocketing difficulty.
Hell, one day could cost people a hundred bucks or more.
Will we need USB hubs ?
Will they be molex powered or have multiple power interfaces ?
Or will these bASIC unites be self powered ?

I have a big news update coming in october which will have images of the boards, dimensions among other things - also I am trying to get a handful of prototype boards made to send out to Luke-JR, TheSeven, ckvolias, and kano - for miner software development and the inevitable physical verification that everyone loves to see For power we went with a 12v DC barrel type connector instead of the molex type connector we used on the ModMiner Quad I know everyone wants specifics but don't worry you will get some very soon!

Sound's good tom.
Quick question though, can we use an ATX power supply for these ?
They are so much more efficient and of course most of us GPU miners have a bunch of gold PSU's available.

I thought the same thing. Its probably too late to change the design now but what about adding a 4pin molex (like the MMQ) as well as the barrel connector? Not to be used at the same time but so we can choose which to use.

You can easily put a DC Barrel Connector on your PSU rail yourself But I will offer free Molex / DC Barrel Adapters for those who want them.

Cool i kinda like the idea of the barrel connector, i can plug the adapter in the wall and get a cheap netbook to connect the device to.

bASIC Announcements
I will try to include as much information as possible here because I know after this post - I will get a lot of emails, however as soon as I finish this post I am jumping on a plane and will be gone all weekend on business. Communication will be limited however I will try and respond to requests as often as possible. I will return on Sunday night.
I had conference calls with the both the board designer and ASIC fabricator today. After doing some thinking I have decided to go with both a molex and DC barrel jack connector this will allow for a lot of different kinds of setups without using adapters - you can simply just choose one or the other. At this point the change was inconsequential and only added a few cents added cost per board, which would be cheaper and simpler than getting adapters.
Also I have some other really great news.
We originally commissioned to have two nearly identical boards designed, one with enough ASIC chips to equal 27Gh/s and another board with the same setup except to accommodate twice that number of ASIC chips or 54Gh/s
After going over the financials today I think it makes sense to change the 1069.99 unit to the 54Gh/s model and sell the design originally intended for 27Gh/s at 599.99
Which means if you currently have purchased a 27Gh/s model it is now a unit capable of a minimum of 54Gh/s
Other Updates / Time Frames
Inside of two weeks we will have the full schematics of the production boards completed and I will release graphic renders so you can see what they look like. (spoiler) They will be silk screened black this time with red lettering which will read "bASIC SHA256 Bitcoin Mining Device - BitcoinASIC.com"
And 2-3 weeks after the deisgn is completed I will have a handful of production boards made (this takes about 5 days) - with pictures on the web site and these boards will be sent to the developers I mentioned before
Luke-JR TheSeven ckvolias Kano
With a little luck this will all happen within the month of October.
We are still on time for shipment in November/December - all current orders and those who get in - in the near future will receive shipments by years end at the latest. I have taken steps to expedite the process (lessons learned from the ModMiner quad) which will greatly improve the time from the board assembly house - to me - and our the door to you.
Have a great weekend and thank you for your support.
