In the next round of shareholder questions, I would like to ask how the crackdown on Chinese exchanges will affect the operation. I imagine the lack of Chinese exchanges would be an impediment to moving in/out of BTC/fiat that might complicate the operation.

And also, does the crackdown mean increased business risk for AM/Bitfountain? What is the risk, for instance, that an overzealous bank closes or freezes AM bank accounts?

So, in a regular DC, you need twelve (11.7+) 42U racks for a 54KW setup, or 8.4m² or about 90.4 sq. feet.

I think you need to double that because doors need to open on those racks and you need aisles.

Good points. Though it doesn't change the rack + power costs in a DC you rent, you need to keep it in mind if you build your own DC without the containers.

When you think a container can host 5 times the power in a space 20% smaller, it would be crazy to go for a regular DC. I bet Rockxie has a lot of space and is planning his own "ghetto" DC instead (he'll need 180sq feet per 54KW, 900 sq feet per 270KW, or about ... 666 sq feet per 200KW - though 667 is closer, it's less fun Grin).

The last 5 times china "banned" bitcoin seem to have had no effect on AM why will it this time?

Their wavers are not made in China as far as I know, so they don't need the money in China.

Also, Hong Kong is not China. It' the freest economy in the world. it's an off-shore tax haven, it's where Chinese and businesses around the world keep their money save from their own government (seemingly, lol).

Not yet at least.

But it's kind of expected, what with the actual chips supposed to arrive today.

Once again: We don't know whether the chips are leaving the plant or are arriving at AM today. They may still be in transit to AM during the days ahead.

arf...FC said the packaged chips will be out on March 28. Whatever that means exactly is anyone's guess.

HK is like Vegas; it never sleeps, so it could mean they show up at 23:59 and testing starts a 00:01. Just don't try and get anything done around New Year.

They pack all their vacations in one go. More efficient. Smiley

I don't believe the gradual restrictions on BTC in China has had "no effect" on AM - if nothing else, at least through the exchange rate and the size of the potential market for chips. It's no secret that it's getting gradually harder for bitcoin businesses in China, and it would be unwise to ignore potential regulatory threats.

Their wavers are not made in China as far as I know, so they don't need the money in China.

Bitfountain is, as far as I know, incorporated in Shenzhen and not in Hong Kong. So unless they have moved, they are still subject to the normal Chinese regulations.

I'm not spreading FUD here, I would just like to know if it is creating any complications for AM's operation (and, if so, how it will be addressed).

I'm all for more communication and news, but I wouldn't have expected some today! Friedcat said the chips will be 'out' on friday. In my books this means they'd be leaving the plant. The earliest date for AM to receive them would be saturday. Do they deliver on sunday? Maybe they'll receive them on monday. And they still need to be tested. If everything's set up they could do this within hours, maybe. But they'll want to make sure all specifications are correct and advertise the actual performance of the physical chips.
These days are unsettling, yes, but there's no reason to panic (yet). If there's no announcement after wednesday, I'll get nervous.

And divs... Well yeah, 1 block and some dust. The fees would swallow all of the transacted BTCs...  Tongue  Cheesy

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

Considering the commitment to pay a weekly dividend and the fact that this has been defaulted on without any announcement - it is a very long time by any standards.

There weren't any meaningful bitcoins to distribute.
