1021  Economy / Goods / Re: "I Accept Bitcoin Tips" T-Shirts -- add your own QR code! on: July 23, 2015, 08:34:03 AM
Can you show us how the shirt would look with a QR code? Can QR codes really be scanned from wearable fabric like a t-shirt?

It's a cool idea.
1022  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB] Casascius Coins on: July 23, 2015, 08:33:05 AM
I think $200 is a bit high on those coins...2x the retail already?!?

Yeah, not surprising that there's no bids yet, but these people on eBay are fiat coin sellers looking for a new angle. You can tell which ones bought their Casascius coins in January of last year... the coins going for $1,500 buy it now with no auction. Ha.
1023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did you first hear about bitcoin? on: July 23, 2015, 08:30:24 AM
The first time, the news. Some article from some website. It used to be impossible for me to talk about with people, but it's becoming an ever increasing easier conversation to have with people, with friends, with family, with coworkers...it's a beautiful thing.
1024  Economy / Economics / Re: Why have Bitcoin instead of cash? on: July 23, 2015, 08:27:05 AM
Besides, Bitcoin is an invisible gold and do not be restricted by the customs.

Very good point! This basically allows you to bring more than 10k in "cash" around the glob in your pocket without customs having a chance to find out.. Can potentially be problematic though, helping illegal transactions.

This may be the best reason of all. Money just became REALLY REALLY easy to transport, with minimal evidence. It's the stealth wealth move of the future, wait...the future is now!
1025  Economy / Economics / Re: Are derivatives providing a net benefit to the economy? on: July 23, 2015, 08:18:58 AM
I think so, but there's no controls over new investments so the public is left wading more complicated risks. And unless people really understand the risk they're taking they'll be prone to heavy losses. The market is fun, but it's the real world...the good and the bad.

Have you heard about www.motifinvesting.com?

1026  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Marijuana helps broken bones heal faster, a new study has found. on: July 23, 2015, 08:16:56 AM
Is this really news? Marijuana makes the prospect of chilling on the couch the most attractive activity, which keeps people off their feet and not moving, thus allowing sore or broken bones to heal!
1027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the weirdest thing you can buy with bitcoin? on: July 23, 2015, 08:15:12 AM
a pizza through a third party.
1028  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the world economy dependent on the American economy? on: July 23, 2015, 08:09:52 AM
No. If the American economy disappeared there rest of the world's economy would continue on. Do you think business in the UK or Asia would all of a sudden stop? Obviously the markets would go down for a while, but it would all come back...

only those that are heavily dependent from america will fall, for a bit maybe, nation like japan, for example,  are immune from the failure of other currency, then you have the whole euro, whichwill not be affected much, actually it will beocme stronger for obvious reason

Thanks for repeating my comment, what was the point of that?
1029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin Crashing Gold? on: July 23, 2015, 06:59:32 AM
I don't think Bitcoin has reached "ultimate money on the planet" status.

I think the trends you're noticing are a coincidence. The volume of bitcoin users or transactions is still very, very small compared to fiat currency transactions. And because bitcoin's transaction volume is so relatively small it doesn't take as much activity to move the price a greater swing one way or the other. A bunch of us on this forum talk about the Greek currency crisis, theorize how bitcoin would be the safe alternative, buy some more bitcoin anticipating a possible run, and then see that run up (due to our cycle of conversation.)

It's possible that the rest of the world didn't see any need to "flock to gold" because all the other fiat currencies are (relatively) stable, not linked to the Greek currency success or failure. And the people of Greece can't easily move their money to gold anyway, given the austerity measures that were already in place.

Also, Gold is priced at its intrinsic value if the current price is what people believe its worth, if the market value equals its perceived true value. I.e., if people believe that gold is really scarce (and not just supply-controlled by jewelry companies) then it's current value is its intrinsic value.
1030  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] VERY RARE: ANACS graded MS67 Casascius Coin 2011 Series 1 w Error on: July 23, 2015, 06:46:33 AM
Sorry Smoothie, my bad. A week attempt at a joke. I deleted the other post so as not to be seen as hypocrite posting this to you.
1031  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Physical Crypto General Discussion on: July 23, 2015, 12:53:25 AM

I feel like ANACS is missing a big point of the value of these coins. The face value exists in the hologram (in the key), an unloaded coin or a blank has significantly less value than one that is loaded (literally). So if the hologram is tampered with, how can ANACS consider the value the same as a coin with an intact hologram (let alone one that's of mint state quality)?

I think this is going to lead me to buying ungraded coins so I'm not paying a premium for a moniker that doesn't evaluate all aspects of these very unique coins.

I think they'd be opening themselves up to a nightmare if they started to consider the values of different iterations of coins. They're there to give you an opinion on the metal disk you send them and nothing more.

Thanks for the thoughts from you and QS. If the grading is only on the "metal disc" as you say, i'm surprised there's so much variance in the grades that come back...I realize they're using 8x magnification but there's really, really little on the metal of the coin (especially on the silvers) that indicate a difference in grade. The brass coins scuff and tarnish, but the silvers are pristine...every single one! The only difference I see are off center holograms or prefixes that are crooked.
1032  Economy / Auctions / Re: [Auction] Casascius 2013 Silver 0.1 MS-68 [1 of 3 known to exist] 2 Day Auction on: July 23, 2015, 12:50:19 AM
Will the extension keep the same bid increments of BTC0.01 or will the bid increments be increased to BTC0.10?
1033  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB] Casascius Coins on: July 23, 2015, 12:44:07 AM
There's some very clean versions on eBay, buy it now price for just over BTC1, in fiat of course. Here's the link -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Casascius-1-oz-silver-2014-St-Petersburg-Bowl-Commemorative-Coin-/271933652032?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f50823c40

No bids yet, 2 days left, starting bid is $200.
1034  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB/WTS] Casascius Holo Error / Collectible Marketplace on: July 23, 2015, 12:34:06 AM
Sure - once it sells I'll add it to the price table.
Good luck, elianite! I'll be watching with interest.
IIRC, there are only 400 of the 0.1 pieces

According to Spotcoins there were 800 minted and 792 are still funded -> http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius

This coin will no doubt get the highest price ever for a 0.1, as its the 1st time an MS-68 is on sale publicly. the last (and so far only, and private) sale was "in the ballpark" of 4-5btc. The 3rd MS-58 is on sale for 5btc by Quickseller.

Auction here (24h remaining): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1127806.msg11938102#msg11938102

Damn, they've gone for 5btc!?!?!

I bought one for 0.7btc last August, granted the fiat to BTC price was more than now, but not equivalent to 5btc. Great to know!

What are peoples thoughts on how the condition of the hologram affects the coins value?

My thoughts are that the hologram forms part of a crypto coin and any damage/wear to the hologram will lower its value.

I know ANACS grade the coin only and do not consider the condition of the hologram - but for me if you have 2 MS68 graded coins, one with perfect hologram and the other with visible wear on the hologram,  I'd much prefer the perfect hologram coin.

Holograms is just one of the reasons why I don't send coins to ANACS.

I've seen some 1btc silvers with TERRIBLE holos receive MS68. It's silly. I bet you could sloppily remove an MS68 holo, grab the private key, reapply the holo with a dab of glue, resubmit it, and ANACS would still give it an MS68.
I think that is a bit of an exaggeration. However ANACS does not take the condition of a hologram into consideration when grading a coin AFAIK.

Although if you are only looking at pictures of a coin, all aspects of a coins condition are really hard to ascertain and you really need to see a coin with your eyes to get a good idea as to its quality. The coin's grade is probably the best way to tell its quality because almost every seller is going to say that their coin is in pristine condition.

1038  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Nook is dying and my wallet is on it! on: July 22, 2015, 05:19:31 AM
I have some of my bit coins (0.5 coins, I'm rich!  Roll Eyes )at localbitcoins.com the other half are on my nook HD (0.5 coins). The nook needs to be reimaged and I want to get my bitcoins off before it dies.

I saw all these complex ways to copy it but wouldn't it be easier to make a new wallet on my PC then transfer the coins to the new wallet? I thought they lived on the SD card in the nook but when I backed up it sent me a file to my email.

What to do?
Simply make a wallet on your pc and send the coins to that address, that way the coins will be on your pc and you won't have to deal with the worry of wallet.dat's . Seems worth the transaction fee to me.

Whats the transaction fee?

The transaction fee is low, certainly much less that what you could lose.
1039  Economy / Goods / Re: Bitcoin eBay auctions on: July 22, 2015, 05:11:03 AM

Good to see physical hardware.. but its a shame its only for local pick up.

if youre owner of that listing, why not just consider sucking up the loss for the shipping cause its better to sell it quick then hold on to it.

If you plan on buying that theres other alternatives for way better pricing...

and usually ebay is overpriced as hell, and those people are just not aware of the forum prices.

Most of those coins have been sitting there for over 6 months with absurd buy-it now prices. The deals are definitely not to be had on eBay...

Capitalism murders americans in droves by overfeeding, just as it murders millions of global southerners by starvation. It's far more profitable to overfeed the rich guy with extra portions, then it is to prevent the poor guy from starving to death.

I think you've confused your business trends, it's not Capitalism it's the culture of over consumption. Don't blame the businesses...let the buyer beware!
