1041  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Ranking-up pipeline - Those that are close to their next rank on: October 06, 2023, 09:22:17 AM
4) Members close to being Full Members:

I tried looking at this list hoping that I'd be able to send merits to anyone if they were making valuable posts but it seems as though most of them have completely given up! All accounts that I checked were inactive for a long time...
Have we made it THAT hard for a newish member to rank up these days or are most of them just bad?
1042  Economy / Gambling discussion / Provable fairness should be mandated by law! ONLY gamble in provably fair casino on: October 06, 2023, 09:18:33 AM
It's been more than 10 years since provable fairness was implemented and popularized thanks to bitcoin gambling.

However, the most popular and otherwise Legally registered casinos that have e-gambling STILL don't implement it.
Most big online casinos that have dice, slots, roulette and other games based on randomness simply have a "certificate" that basically says results will be random Trust Us™. Well, are we supposed to pretend that they don't KNOW provable fairness exists by now? Honestly between the last 10 years all companies capable making custom e-gambling games have become rich. But yet we don't see big casinos caring enough to implement trustless technology.

Under their current schemes, they could be cheating people with rigged games and there wouldn't be even any way to prove this as it all happens virtually... The funny thing is that in many occasions, this happens under government issued licenses. It seems as though even government officials don't care to protect their citizens... When a simple solution exists to irrefutably PROVE the randomness of all games, why would politicians and cronies licensing those games be OK with leaving the door open for online casinos to cheat on their citizens without anyone noticing? Who knows what corruption might be at play here.

It's for these reasons that when I gamble, I only gamble in provably fair casinos. Regardless of whether my government has licensed them or not. This is just one of the occasions that the law doesn't protect anyone other than the 0.1% richest who pay millions for casino licenses.

Spectrocoin.com has a long history of scam, activities that do not comply with the terms of service, sudden closure of accounts, and CEO also launched Bankera which is one of the biggest ICO scams. The forum is full of Spectrocoin scam topics and the negative trust in their account will say a lot. I hope you remove them from the list.

This is a valid observation. But I think it might be worth adding a notice for their bad reputation instead of outright removing them.
1045  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of crypto debit cards on: October 05, 2023, 09:35:08 PM
And you also created a topic about Binance debit card's availability in EU --> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469145.msg62942695#msg62942695 I read the whole thread, and the answers are still ambiguine, I mean does Binance card still work in EU or not. Well, I thought to ask this question there, but I did ask it here, because, such information should also be added to the comparisons.

Binance card is still functional, just not as useful while we can't deposit EUR.

There was an old thread reflecting those that were KYC or not. Could you account for this? Although I think there are no longer KYC exempt or have ridiculous limits without verification, such as $50. If so I do not see much sense to spend with your card an investment that over time is revalued, although some people spend them because the Treasury of your country does not have direct access to the data of the exchange or company that depends on the card.

I think most cards require KYC these days. If I come across any that don't I'll post about it. Maybe in a separate thread though as those tend to be prepaid and not debit cards. Not sure about it yet.

And one more thing, in what manner this thread will be unique then that? Overall, I like this initiative and really love to hear more.

No benefit, OP is apparently going to talk about something that has already been told and published on the forum a long time ago. The uniqueness and meaning of opening a new topic may be if someone wants to test these cards and make comparisons from their own experience, this would be useful content and unique content.

I'd like to compare the cashback plans these cards offer and come up with a conclusion. I'll just take some time I guess. Suggestions and constructive criticism is welcome. Don't be so negative yet tho... I just posted this thread. Roll Eyes

Crypto debit cards are a tool to easily spend your crypto and sometimes earn cashback while doing it. I'm starting this thread to help provide some guidance on what alternatives exist out there, while tracking the most vital specifications of each card.
This list is going go be focused on debit cards that let you deposit your own crypto and have it exchanged for transactions.

1050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Polygon co-founders say they've gotten rid of C-suite positions on: October 05, 2023, 12:11:50 PM
If you were to judge Polygon by what it has delivered it would be in good standing among all the competitors in the Decentralized Finance space...

Fast & cheap transactions, decent decentralization compared to competition, good tokenization, active community, stable network. No widespread breaches... They've achieved much of what they wanted to do initially. I still use Polygon almost daily and it's one of the most smooth experiences compared to other DeFi chains. The platform can keep running without much central coordination still.

However, the issue would be keeping up with competition. Many Decentralized Finance platforms slowly but surely are getting into sidechains and many other innovative solutions that would make things much easier for certain use applications if done correctly. If there's no organization funding and coordinating development efforts, innovating becomes much harder. To say this was done for "decentralization" surely doesn't sound very promising. But one can only wait and see.

1052  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance card with EUR deposits disabled on: October 05, 2023, 08:36:54 AM
Now this card is useless in my country and I have replaced it with crypto.com card in my wallet.
How's crypto.com card working for you so far? I never really considered it as I remember there was a lot of fud about them going bankrupt or whatnot.

My experience has been that it's working fine. Just as my bank's card it would get accepted everywhere without issues. One issue I had however is that crypto.com chose to block financial institutions and providers from charging your card. So for example if I wanted to pay a Revolut subscription with the crypto.com card I couldn't. Sounds like in their mind it was a way of asset protection because scamers would often use the deposit by card option to empty cards. But regardless it's a very stupid and limiting measure.

The main drawback was the exchange rates, which coming from the crypto.com exchange (which doesn't have a lot of liquidity) wasn't great , so it's not worth putting crypto in the card to pay with it. Putting EUR in it to pay was ok though.

As of the cashback, it's become meaningless to try and use it given how many CRO staked it requires.
1053  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance card with EUR deposits disabled on: October 04, 2023, 07:08:25 AM

So my question is, do you still plan on using the Binance debit card now that EUR deposits on binance.com are down?
I (and probably many others) won't be able to use Binance card for much longer, but not because of that.

Thing is, few months ago Binance lost its card provider for Europe so that means no new cards are issued to their EU customers and since my card expires in a few months, that effectively means that I won't be able to get a new one.
I thought Binance's card issuer was Swipe, which is owned by Binance. Although you're right, there was some news in August 2023 that Mastercard and Visa were cutting Binance off as Binance came under investigation. Not sure how drastic that is going to be though. Looking into the Binance website, there's still a prompt showing me to order a new one if I want. And there existing one also works fine.
1054  Economy / Exchanges / Binance card with EUR deposits disabled on: October 04, 2023, 06:48:27 AM
Some of us in the EU have been using the Binance card for its cashback. However, now with Binance having to cut EUR deposits as their payment partner cut the exchange off, it becomes significantly harder to fund the card.
You'd have to buy crypto on another exchange, deposit to binance and then put it on the card's account for it to be converted to EUR. This has the disadvantage of having to pay exchange fees twice (at best 0.25% on another exchange and then 0.2% on Binance) and on top of that, there's the risk of currency risk... Which makes you risk losing more than from currency prices falling than the card can offer in cash back.

So my question is, do you still plan on using the Binance debit card now that EUR deposits on binance.com are down?
1055  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's first tweet since 2018? on: October 03, 2023, 11:47:02 AM
Remember that Craig Wright is a person who has repeatedly tried to fool the world into believing he is the actual Satoshi. ~
I don't think binging up Wright is even relevant in this context and I doubt he would use Twitter to run his scam through an account called Satoshi. Twitter is too centralized for him to do this, specially since Musk (as the owner of Twitter) could easily make a statement saying "this account has changed hands/was sold". That would shut down his claim very quickly.

This is exactly what happened.
This images from X should put paid to this confusion.

Yet we're still here talking about it
1056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's first tweet since 2018? on: October 03, 2023, 10:08:44 AM
Remember that Craig Wright is a person who has repeatedly tried to fool the world into believing he is the actual Satoshi. Due to the nuance related to crypto sometimes people not very familiar with Bitcoin's history tend to believe him. But he has never provided any material proof that he actually is Satoshi.

On the other hand he has leveraged his claim that he is Satoshi to try and gather fame and money through various schemes. One being him creating a fork of bitcoin. And other attempts to pressure companies and other parties to provide him access to coins he doesn't own because as he says, he is Satoshi. It's a whole lot of nonsense.
1057  Other / Politics & Society / Armenia - Azerbaijan conflict and EU's stance on: October 03, 2023, 09:48:21 AM
Isn't it a bit ridiculous that the EU is supposedly an Ally of Armenia and even has sent strongly worded warnings to Azeri leadership over their advances in Nagorno Karabakh, but yet still buy azeri gas?

The hypocrisy of the EU goes much further though. Just a short time after the 2020 Azerbaijan - Armenia war ended, the TANAP pipeline was opened, passing just a few miles off Nagorno Karabakh borders.
Image of pipelines:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0a/TAP_TANAP_SCP_Schah_Denis.png

So as much as the EU would like to pretend to care about human life, as much as they'd like to pretend to be against conflict... The EU is directly responsible for funding Azerbaijan's participation in this bloody conflict.
If this teaches is anything, is that the powers that be will never care about the human factor. All that matters is money and conserving the status quo. Just to follow NATO's direction of sanctions to Russia the EU directly funded another war which resulted in the displacement of people.
1058  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto gambling sites should be careful of bringing eSports in on: September 12, 2020, 01:19:41 PM
As a parent mate, we need to be more watchful on our kids and what I see on your insights that's the best mindset to consider. Because most people these days doesn't value this kind of parenting, they'll making their kids more liberated without knowing the bad effects on their future lives. Gambling is good when times of winning entertainment but it's a stressful thing once you're drowned in debt so it's very important that our kids will be educated with positive and bad sides of it.
The idea of young people being exposed to vices in order for the to understand better isn't something new. It's been around for ages. But gambling online is an incredible nuance. Many parents didn't even have the chance to experience it to know what it's like. And it's often hard to make the distinction between game and gambling. Oftentimes the casinos make it deliberately ambiguous. And it's also oftentimes very hard for parents to spot the difference unless they're actively involved. I think bitcoin has some legitimate market uses even for children.

But if giving bitcoin to a child is risking making them addicted to gambling then it's also a bad look for the currency itself.
1059  Other / Politics & Society / No time to waste - US has to act now to reverse climate change trend on: September 12, 2020, 01:10:28 PM
Today I watched a very convincing video on how the following years are crucial for the future of humanity. Scientists agree that for humanity to survive global warming without catastrophic consequences on a global level, then global warming should be limited between 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius. Current models show that any plan to reach this goal according to current trends should be very rapid. Fossil fuels on the majority of factories and cars should be replaced within the following four years or the damage will be irreversible and global. The U.S. has the technology to do it, it's the world's biggest economy. It's time to decarbonize and lead the world once again. Are you going to stand by watching idly? I say us bitcoiners should take a stance.

1060  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Is bitcointalk (still) very skeptical towards global warming science? on: September 10, 2020, 11:54:49 PM
I think this is true, our environment changes dramatically, but I'm still not sure to what degree it's anthropogenic and how much of it is naturally occuring process. The best stance about the issue I've stumbled upon was given by Jordan B Peterson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y564PsKvNZs
Honestly Peterson these days has a position on everything. Sometimes he should accept that things are beyond his area of expertise.
