note to self - keep to btc back for party..  Grin

Wont it be a bit of a sausage fest thou.. We need a plan to solve this..

This x 1000

I'm a married man but a party isn't a party if it's full of men. (Unless you're into that Wink )
gender distribution is an issue. what can be done about it other than free admission for women ? maybe we will have to work with media here. imho a party full of guys which wealth has 10 folded over the last few months may be a interesting honey pot. on top of it we would need some superstar band/singer/dj (or several) attending - if the local radio talks about letīs say robbie williams/david guetta on stage tonight at some party and itīs free admission&drinks for the ladies, we will be flooded with girls. frankfurt has a voluminous party culture and berlin even more, so location isnīt the problem. it is just up to creativity and budget = can be solved.

Works for me.

Now, are we talking about a snooty, dress nice and stand around talking while sipping wine party like "typical high class"  events, or, you know, a party? Music, (the more electronic the better!) booze, etc.

Being Germany, i picture the latter... I had some great fun in russia a few years back and would relish a repeat.

LSD punch?

... Not that I'm aware of?

I really wish people would stop worrying so easily (and stop expecting price won't jump around). Learn to shrug off volatility, because it is NOT going to be a smooth ride as we go to $10,000 or $100,000. You'll get shaken off unless you're made of steel.

It was obvious we had to take a breather. Double-exponential growth never lasts. Exponential can, but not double-exponential. Hanging around the $200 mark for a week is required in order to get back onto the exponential trendline, which we got ahead of. We of course won't sit exactly at $200 but will bounce around a bit. It's just killing time until the rise continues.
Lost a lot of money by holding, but this crash feels great. Now I won't need to be so scared as we push through the ATH. Let's consolidate around $200 for a while. I'm feeling really bullish.

Yeah, don't worry

and now i'm rocking out ot that. thanks kozi. Cheesy

Did 50BTC.com do this to themselves?
Tongue
[...]

Why should they have done so? At 120 TH/s the pool still generated about 220 BTC per day, so the 3% PPS were about $40k per month for the pool at current exchange rates.

I guess the more interesting question is, if they really have lost all bitcoins in the pool wallet, do they have any interest in restoring the balances?

if the bitcoins are gone, restoring out balances is largely pointless, since they won't be able to pay us, and the vast majority of us would not return to mine there. this could well be the death of this pool.

1190  Economy / Lending / Re: 1 btc loan for groceries? on: October 23, 2013, 10:06:56 PM
Well as I based the loan on btc-e prices, why not stick with that.   Makes no difference to you as your capped at 140 USD, but at least I can arb it over to gox and withdrawal in yen.

man the price is still going up.  lucky you didnt take that dude on the 3btc to 1btc offer eh lol... Wink

lol, right?

i'd forgotten which we used. but yea, ok.

My balance before the data corruption was .33 BTC. They can easily confirm this by my hash rate and last payout date. I don't care about what I made from the corruption time to the time I moved my miner either. Just fix my balance ! :-(

agreed. only looking at .05 for me.
1192  Economy / Lending / Re: 1 btc loan for groceries? on: October 23, 2013, 08:58:46 PM
Hi Arklan,

I know its a tough call.  Most would argue that they would of had that money sitting in BTC so it would of gained value so you should pay that.  However, I don't hold BTC.  I just do arbitrage.   I jumped on the loan to help ya out, I don't need to make a boat load.   I know currently 1.1 BTC is at about 210 USD on bitstamp.   No point in waiting for a crash as it may not come.

We originally agreed to 1.1 BTC repayment.  We can amend that.   I'll agree that you can just pay the equal value of 140 USD in BTC to me at the time, but if there is a major crash, you will at least pay me back the 121 USD I lent you.

How does that sound?

agreed. 140 USD in btc, according to... uh, which exchange? your call.
1193  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: announcement: the international "when-bitcoin-reaches 1000,- $ party" on: October 23, 2013, 07:18:37 AM
charity is a must. i would say that it is a major component of this event.

(here's where I get branded as a coldhearted sonofabitch. c'est la guerre)  I disagree. Vehemently.

I have no problem in celebrating those at the event who donate, and perhaps even make fundraising a big part of the activities. But out of the proceeds of the attendance fees? No way. What you feel is a worthwhile charity may be opposed to some of my principles, and vice-versa.

We have funds for a celebration, and funds for worthy causes. Why the heck would you commingle these funds? There is no good reason to.

Good Point, My charity could be another man's terrorist organization.
Here is a workaround
We get a lot of Historic Bitcoin Memorabilia, (by donation whatever) - like fist printing of Bitcoin magazine, a first off minted casascius coin, a Rev1 Usb Block Erupter, some alpaca socks, etc.
And they are auctioned off with proceeds going to a designated charity of choice for the winning bid. (or something similar)

Only bid if you want to donate?

Good workaround. I'd take it one step further. Allow the party that donates each particular item to be auctioned to declare which charity would receive the funds from that lot.

That may be a win/win/win.

as someone with a stash of the first block erupters to leave china (i ran the first group buy) i'm very much liking this plan. by then mine would be useless, mining wise.

also, easy on the women talk, as far as ...uh... paying to attend. my (by then) wife will be with me, and... yea.
1194  Economy / Lending / Re: 1 btc loan for groceries? on: October 23, 2013, 07:08:31 AM
Hi Arklan,

Again, I hope things are going well in the new job.   I came across another thread that made me think we should consider how to complete  your loan.   Another user had posted a sale of 10 BTC via paypal so I had offered to purchase while locking equal value up in LTC in escrow for 30 days.   He basically called me a scammer because you can reverse payments I guess for 45 days.  I had thought it was 30.

Any way.  If your concerned about making payment and having me reverse the original loan here is what we can do.

1) Still make payment by the end of October for the 1.1 BTC
2) Just prior I can put equal of 1.1 BTC, of LTC, in escrow.  If anyone is willing to do that? (VOD? Tomato?)
3) I get back my BTC and the escrow holder can release my LTC after the 45 day paypal period has ended.

I think that protects both of us, and allows you to make your final payment that falls before that 45 day period is up.

Let me know what you think.

cheers.

this seems fine. the trick (for me) will be GETTING the full 1.1 btc in time... this price climb is making that more and more difficult.

It's even harder do watch as everyone I care for has their savings and earnings devalued from right in front of them, and there's nothing I can do. They don't get it, they don't want to hear it, and I feel like I'm the one taking crazy pills.

Seems like a huge amount of people on these forums don't understand why expected inflation is not a big deal. If the dollar is inflating 2% per year, then this increase gets factored into wages and contracts (including bonds). Most people who have any significant amount of money don't keep it in cash. People who have invested their money in stocks and bonds over the last hundred years have done very well in general. There is no problem that you need to save these people from.

Factored in to wages? Bullshit. Maybe for managment and salaried employees with benefits, but most people I know aren't in such positions, and those that are don't actively trade stocks and such.

We aren't all standing half way up the pyramid... These days, even though I'm well educated with certificates and degrees, i'm on the bottom working manual labor. Inflation sure as hell isn't factored in.
