It's not impossible to happen, Spence has not fought a boxer like Thurman, and although he had one lose he was never been dominated by his opponent in the ring, his loss to Manny Pacquiao was a close one, so I will not count Thurman out, I mean he still has something to prove and he can definitely upset Spence who is the heavy favorite. This fight, it gives us real entertainment as Spence will surely be busy protecting himself and looking for the perfect timing to hurt Thurman. I'm just a little worried about Thurman's weak spot, his body. If it wasn't for Pacquiao's early knockdown, the fight could've been owned by Keith because the judge's score wasn't that huge in gap but unfortunately that wasn't the case as he was surprised by the Philippine legend. So anyway, that's more than enough evidence to believe that Keith truly stand a chance against Spence and that he might be the one who will surprise us this time. It's that the Warriors doesn't have enough players in the rotation in this game, Kuminga, Moody was not in the game and Kerr will have to play with just 8 players against a healthy Celtics and in their homecourt. It's not a bad lost though, again they almost steal 1 from Boston Garden, they just fell short in the OT as their legs are tired.
Not a bad loss indeed, it's actually felt like a playoffs game after watching it. The weakness of the Warriors is the offensive rebounds. Boxing out seems to be forgotten by Wiggins or he just too small for Robert Williams III. If next time they will meet a team that relies heavily on their big men, the Warriors would need someone big enough to control it. Kuminga or Wiseman but both are injured. Whenever Looney will take his rest, the Celtics can have 2-3 second chance possessions if they miss, all thanks to Williams. Draymond could not handle them all on a small ball line up, he will need some help. It was evident that they are getting outmuscled by Robert Williams and Big Al Horford. And the thing is both can also contribute to the offense as well. So Looney and Draymond as much as he is really good in defense and has a high boxing IQ, not enough for them to upset the Celtics. Yes, for us it's not really fair to see this fight at 154 lbs and without any belt of Spence in line for the Thurman. But since they are in the same stable and control by Haymon, Thurman can't do anything about it. What the boss says will take into effect and it seems that the body is willing to give this exception for Spence to fight without any belt unless it's Crawford. So this could be very well a done deal already as it is reported by many insider. I haven't heard anything from the camp of Thurman though, but as I have said, he is the B-side so no complaint from him whatsoever.
If you guys remembered, I asked if the Thurman vs Spence will be a title fight but it seems it's not. Then just recently, the fight was sanctioned as a mandatory defense for Spence by the WBC. A bit confused here, I thought they were fighting at 147 and not on 154. But why there's a term that no belt at stake here? Am I hearing it right? Then what's the purpose of this fight especially it was sanction by a higher boxing authority? I'm confused as well, if there's no belt involved, then we cannot call it a mandatory fight and Spence could say no if he wants to. Well, even if there's no belt involved, it will be okay for fans that are desperate to see some action as we will definitely see a real action of these two. If just for fans' satisfaction then that fight is a waste of fight if no belt will be at risk. Keith Thurman is clearly just being toyed and no point in risking his life for nothing. He has a good portfolio in the first place so if that fight doesn't have a stake in line, it's a clear disrespect for Thurman just for Spence to have a fight after a long period of rest. Probably this is just one strategy made up by someone who bet on games that he didn't know and won some money and later he know that what he bet is against the public.
