thread re-opened.

if you want, i think you can lock the thread yourself... if that option is available to newbies?

why is this off-topic? isn't it a bitcoin-related discussion?
1264  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: May 16, 2012, 05:41:57 AM
i see that you have a maximum bet per address, but aren't you still susceptible to a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_%28betting_system%29 martingale betting system?
since you have static 1dice addresses, you could get wiped out pretty quickly by an automated program

Martingale has negative expectation so it's the users who are susceptible to it, not the site.

(Casinos avoid it because its procedurally disruptive, and rapidly ruins customers they're rather milk, not because it makes the games net positive for the players)

satoshidice has a very wide dynamic range... doing the standard 2x martingale, it allows up to 17 losses in a row... you won't get anywhere near that at a regular casino... more like 4 or 5 in a row.

the key to reducing martingale risk (for the house) is bringing the min/max closer together.

are you talking about this automated program by any chance? Cheesy
1266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is this a working concept? on: May 16, 2012, 03:45:30 AM
Also if I go to another browser window the timer stops so I can't even run it in the background.

haha that was my idea

running this sort of site in the background would kinda be cheating

you're being paid to view the ads, not hide the window Cheesy

don't worry.

one day, with a lot of hard work and visits to coinad.com, you will have > 3 bitcoin.
1268  Other / Meta / Re: Eliminating the "one-line subscribe" posts. on: May 15, 2012, 09:39:02 PM

nope, that does not help you subscribe without posting 'subbed'.

You had said: "writing 'subbed' doesn't subscribe you to emails."
I said, But it can, if you tweak your options.

That is, after that, writing sub *does* subscribe you to emails.

In case we are confused, let's repeat: "Posting sub subscribes you to emails, and I showed you how."

So, I don't understand your new objection: "that does not help you subscribe without posting 'subbed'."

 Wink

okay mis-understanding... what people posting 'subbed' really want to achieve, is being notified of new replies without getting emails.

you can't do that any other way.
1269  Economy / Marketplace / Re: GoldGameLand.com - instant pay mini casino and BTC <-> LR exchange +FREE 0.10BTC on: May 15, 2012, 09:33:25 PM
how do i log in again? i never registered in the first place... just deposited, played and then tried to cash out.
If you haven't registered, use your transaction hash in the field on the site front page.

(Further use for those who wonder: Transaction hash can be fetched by inputting your bitcoin address at blockchain.info or blockexplorer.com for instance.)

We adjusted the session timeout, however currently only 2 confirmations are required.

ADDED: Unregistered players are in our internal policy expected to play "per session", ie. if they wish to return they very likely do register and thus do not leave the account open for outside access attempts through tx hash snooping. Registered accounts, again, enjoy tighter restrictions for potential account compromise for an outside intruder.

which transaction? i tried using the hash of my deposit transaction but it said the 'address' was not found.

for future players, i hope the session will last longer than the 2 confirmations.

i'm skeptical... can you tell me which checkbox exactly achieves this?

"Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic."

nope, that does not help you subscribe without posting 'subbed'.

Error code 3. Session has expired. Please log in again. 4887

the reason the session has expired is because i had to wait for 6 confirmations on my deposit.

in chrome, there is no way to select+copy the bitcoin address that is shown on the popup dialog box.

the only way chrome users can deposit would be by reading and typing out an entire bitcoin address manually*

*not quite true, i was able to find it and copy it from within the document inspector, but i'm guessing most people won't go to that effort.

edit: also i see that you're not using a unique address for each player, but rather, trying to use a unique deposit amount (eg. 0.099248992) and identifying users that way.

probably not best practice.
1273  Other / Meta / Re: Eliminating the "one-line subscribe" posts. on: May 15, 2012, 10:12:58 AM

but notify also send you emails.

writing 'subbed' doesn't subscribe you to emails.

The latter is an option. Just tweak your userprefs if you desire that.

1274  Other / Meta / Re: Eliminating the "one-line subscribe" posts. on: May 15, 2012, 05:59:45 AM
It seems that people use these "subscribe" one-liners rather than click notify because threads flagged via the latter mechanism don't show up under "Show new replies to your post."

There should be a rather simple solution to this: Simply that threads marked as 'notify' begin showing up under 'show new replies' as well. (the label for which could then be changed to the more inclusive "Show notified posts.")

but notify also send you emails.

writing 'subbed' doesn't subscribe you to emails.
1275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help, I started "bitcoind -daemon -keypool=10000 &" and its 18 hours already... on: May 15, 2012, 04:43:39 AM
Can I safely kill the bitcoind?
With which signal?

if you've properly backed up your wallet and bitcoind stop doesn't work, then kill -9

if you haven't properly backed up your wallet and bitcoind stop doesn't work, then i'd suggest waiting another 18 hours first before doing anything.

it looks like there are a few people having issues with the latest version.
1276  Other / Off-topic / Re: What does your 'time of day' graph say about you? on: May 15, 2012, 04:23:30 AM
lol, does anyone on this site have a solid enough sleeping pattern that there is 8 hours they never post at?

not 8, but my daily 4-hour nap is pretty solid Smiley

my experience is that 0-conf deposits don't earn interest... i'm not sure what conf number the earning kicks in.

Whenever pirateat40 presses the button.

yeah, i'd have to agree... pretty sure that part is done manually now that you mention it.
1278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [1BTC] New computer BSOD on: May 15, 2012, 01:13:06 AM
New install of windows 7(dont have a cd drive so I had to install windows 7 on my other computer then install the HD into the new computer, Possible source of BSOD?)

What is the other system? I am 99% sure that is your issue right there.

How are the sata ports setup in the bios? AHCI? IDE? RAID?
Nailed it, I'll bet. Try pulling the CD drive out of your other rig just for this install. Moving between different mobos and stuff is a good way to make Windows unstable.

and probably also a good way to convince Windows it's an unauthorized copy.

Hey I have a quick Q about starting a BCTST account.  If I opened an account today, would interest start accruing today?  Or is there some kind of enrollment period I'd have to wait for?

Interest would start accruing as soon as you put funds in.

The deposits start when it hits your BS&T wallet - the calculation is done by the minute as far as I know (certainly by hours as daylight savings took account of the 167 hour week).
