1381  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: {ANNOUNCEMENT} WBX Exchange Frozen on: April 19, 2012, 03:27:47 PM
I believe that it's worth taking action against Andre ... because doing so will restrict his ability to operate another business for a while and make him subject to penalties if he leaves the country without permission.

how lovely... glad i'm out... coz i wouldn't even do that to an enemy.

Plenty of sketchy operators (and WBX was sketchy from the outset) are serial offenders.  I have no problem with the brakes being put on their ability to open new businesses for a while.  It's not in the interests of the Australian public that people whose businesses are de-registered and not properly wound up and who don't pay their creditors be free to simply open new businesses at will.

There's little point in people going to the trouble of obtaining judgements against Andre if they're not going to enforce those orders.

perhaps, but in my mind restricting movement is a bit immoral without any proof of wrong-doing.

No proof?

oh, i haven't seen any. apologies if there has been some.

1383  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you hate the Mtgox "calculator" image on the home page? on: April 19, 2012, 06:44:43 AM
yeah, i'm not a fan of it.

and while we're in off-topic mode i also hate the ridiculously slow fade-out of the rollover effect on the windows 7 calculator buttons.

Yeah the bittleships domain is hijacked.

Confirmed.

1387  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buying and Selling World Bitcoin Exchange (WBX) funds on: April 19, 2012, 01:55:56 AM
i'd like to sell you mine ($497) but what documentation do you need to prove that the debt exists?

uh scratch that.

i can't transfer it to you, because the debt exists as a pending withdrawal... never received the cash obviously, but it's stuck at a point where i can't transfer it to your account either.

edit: scratch that scratch. i was surprisingly able to cancel the withdrawal, and now have a balance of $497.33.... can you give me 11 btc for it?

Thanks payb.tc. You're making a habit of selling off your bad debts. Hope your profits make up for your losses.

yeah actually arbitrage with AUD across mtgox<->wbx was really good to me for 3 months+

...you think a post in this thread is specifically directed at you even though it was made before you registered your (current) account.

this feeling might be more likely felt by sock-puppeteers

Encrypted Vmware Computer with truecrypt encrypted drive Hosted on a Computer with fault tolerant hard drive and encrypted online backup. Lowest Level of encryption is 1024 Bit. Any bad ideas to this setup?

how is a hard drive made to be fault tolerant? that makes me think it is storing bits redundantly, which could be a security leak.

1397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On Bitcoin donations on: April 16, 2012, 04:40:07 AM
think of it like a payment for keeping the word 'bitcoin' on the donation page.

the charity might not find the ~2 BTC very useful, but as long as it's kept there as an option, other people visiting that charity will discover / be reminded of bitcoin.

last time i looked, the wayback machine had quite a bit donated.

The word mindshare comes to mind.

~Bruno~

so does the word cliche.

and plague.

Cheesy

tried it, got a popup saying "The text you entered is not a valid private key". anyway i realised it's basically a matter of doing sha256 hash of your string, which can obviously be done offline.

You're almost there, keep reading the dialog and click "ok".

sorry, nfi what you guys are talking about... that's why i said for the 'clueless'.

edit: okay finally worked it out... my 'very secure passphrase' that i was testing with was J#*(5%8923a which happens to be 11 characters long, and as it turns out, just shy of the 12 characters required to get the extra text on the popup dialog.

Brain wallets are the most safe and secure.

can someone please remind the clueless how to convert an arbitrary string into a private key?

cheers.
1. go to bitaddress.org
2. select tab wallet details
3. type in a very secure phrase that you can still remember
4. send bitcoin to the public address.

type in where? the only text input box i see on that page is labelled "enter private key".
just try it. And yes, there are other ways to make them. Just do a search for brain wallet.
