1461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do we realy need a new best alt coin thread every 5 minutes? on: April 27, 2014, 07:18:18 PM
no

in fact the whole altcoin section on this forum is a complete joke now
has been for longtime

I'd agree. It seemed to have some value still to it around 5 months ago, but it has changed.
The biggest change that I have seem is this:
People used to introduce coin that they thought added a unique twist to current ones. Maybe, something that would hold long term value and that could has long term usage.
Now, it seems any coin being released is being released solely because people missed the boat on other coins and need something they can jump on at the ground floor to hold a large percentage and then dump them.

1463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What limitations does Charlie Shrem have? on: April 27, 2014, 07:16:38 AM
If he's under house arrest and presumably have a few hidden Bitcoin wallets?

- Food Delivery
- Computer Parts Delivery
- Escorts / Prostitutes making outcalls to his mom's house
- Paying people to pick him up beer
- Mom makes him dinner every night

Explain how house arrest is a punishment..   Grin

Pretty sure all those are possible even without access to bitcoin.
His mama could just hook him up with a few shekels.
1464  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Banned from Poloniex for religious beliefs. on: April 27, 2014, 07:14:47 AM

It was a 1 hour ban?
Doesn't seem that bad.
Was it a ban from using and trading coins? Or just a ban on the chatbox?
1465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: N00b has N00b questions on: April 27, 2014, 07:07:05 AM
Hi all:

So, I'm thinking of buying Litecoins. I take it the only reliable way is to get BC first. Now let's say all goes well, LC go through the roof and I'm rich, I tell you, rich. Assuming I don't cash out, is there any way to make sure the money doesn't just evaporate in case of, say,  24-hour panic? Etrading stocks, you can set a stop loss. Any way to do this with cryptos?

Also, and no offense meant to mods, but what would prevent someone who was escrowing and simply making off with $$ and LT from both buyer and seller? And tipping... is... optional?

Sorry if this is in a FAQ somewhere, thanks for reading.

Do not use the forum to buy or sell your altcoins.
Sign up at a reliable exchange.
mcxnow.com
cryptsy.com

You can use your bitcoin to buy or sell any altcoin any time you want and it is much safer than a private transaction on the forum.
1466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: April 27, 2014, 06:17:35 AM
If you can get some of both that would be the best for you.   It is always best to have money spread out over different things obviously.

Well, obviously  Roll Eyes
But the OP posed a hypothetical question.
That's what we were answering...

1468  Other / Politics & Society / Re: you get Richer as the Older You’ll Get on: April 27, 2014, 06:13:20 AM
I agree with this.  My private medical insurance now costs triple digits per month (that is a lot in Canada).

Sad to hear this. But at least when compared to the US, it is better. I read in another thread here that medical insurance for someone in his 30s costs around $200 per month in the US.

I suppose it would depend on the plan.
I am 32 years old and pay $79/month for my health insurance.
Being self-employed, I pay the full amount, but have no issue with the cost.
1469  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-04-26]Bitcoin and World Boxing Champ Together?? on: April 27, 2014, 05:50:14 AM
At least this guy should have added the Bitcoin logo to the T-shirt. Anyway... the proceedings are going to the Bitcoin-based charity, so I am not complaining too much about it.
bryant, EL Chino just has Mayweather in his thoughts right now, this was something cooked up by others actually, come to find out.
Anyway, you're right, it is for charity.

Imagine if he ever got to the level to fight Money...could be huge for bitcoin to work out a sponsorship deal with el chino.
1470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: April 27, 2014, 05:47:04 AM

I would also pick BTC in this situation.
Although I am a fan of both, I see more growth potential over the next few years with bitcoins.
1471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you know which community has a more obnoxious, rabid fanbase than Apple? on: April 27, 2014, 05:36:43 AM
The BTC community... and in a few years time, our fanbase will be larger than Apple.

Remember that Apple as a market cap is currently valuated at $450 billion... How will BTC be valuated in 5 years?

Maybe so. Though the two do not need to be mutually exclusive.
1472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who wants to fix the price? on: April 27, 2014, 05:35:20 AM
Who wants to fix the price?
Why is the price broken?  Cheesy

It's OK to tell people about your enthusiasm for BTC.
If you come on too strong they might think you are "Ponzi recruiting" or inviting them to join a cult.

That is the risk. I know when I first became excited over BTC I told a number of people and got looks like I was a loon. Now, BTC comes up organically in conversation, I will add my feelings and let people know my experience in mining and holding.

1474  Other / Off-topic / Re: Jon Jones vs Glover Teixeira on: April 27, 2014, 04:46:03 AM
All bets here are on Jones? Nobody likes Teixeira... Why?

Not that nobody dislikes Texeira. I like him and enjoy his fights. It's just that he is not on the same level of Jon Jones and will lose pretty easily.

Looks like you were completely right.
1475  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-04-24] Fill‘er Up: Bitcoin Fuel Dispenser Unveiled in Cincinnati on: April 27, 2014, 12:59:04 AM

That's a very unique place to use btc.
The sheer number of gas transaction on a daily basis could save stations untold amount of money not having to deal with the credit card cut.
1476  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin ATM in Amsterdam on: April 27, 2014, 12:35:50 AM
Can I turn btc to euros if I'm there on vacation?  Hate my bank and their fees.  Btw, what are the fees to process btc thru your machine?

Those are my same questions.
Wife and I went to Vietnam last year. We didn't want to carry around too much cash, so we used the local ATM's a couple times. It ended up costing nearly $15 in total fees each time we took out money. If the bitcoin ATM's make it so these fees are drastically reduced, it could change the way we travel.
1477  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Selling BTC at Ebay on: April 27, 2014, 12:02:00 AM

Ebay is a terrible place to attempt to sell crypto.
I was scammed out of a bunch on Litecoins on there last year. Paypal is no help. Ebay and Paypal are enemies of the crypto world.
1478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The trade you made that you regret the most. on: April 26, 2014, 11:57:44 PM
I bought 1500LTC at $ 2.2 in 2013 my plan was to hold my Litecoins because they would be atleast $ 20 when MtGox was going to add LTC.
But then suddenly the price rose just over 10% and I sold everything. Few days later Litecoin was rising like never before, $4 then $7 then $10 then $18 all the way up to over $45!!!

For only 10% profit I have missed the chance of making extreme profits... It was horrible to watch, the only thing I was hoping was the price to go down...

So what's yours?

Mine was the exact same as yours.
I bought in LTC at $2.40. Didn't but nearly as many, I had about 200.
Once they hit around $5 I sold them all off (and got scammed out of a few on ebay).

It is what it is.

Like it or not, this thread represents bitcoin.
New people getting interested in bitcoin come to bitcointalk and look around. Seeing threats of this nature will drive away potential enthusiasts. It is surprising that the mods do not ban members that seek to destroy the integrity of bitcointalk.
Or maybe the mod in charge of this area is also an anti-Semite and bigot.
