It appears your miners run cgminer? What driver do they use, and if it's your own driver, where is the source code to your driver?
Aren't they just hashfast boards?

sorry to jump off the rail regarding the discussion ... though I must say this is the best company for miners, and this is one of the best forums I watch as well. good points made by all, and at the end of the day we all have our own style ... my question is probably pretty silly, but how do you point the SP's and multiple pools in the "Pools" menu? Its just cgminer so you have to edit the cgminer.conf file You have to follow the instructions on that page: To edit this file, please use SSH to log in to your miner, and then use vi /etc/cgminer.conf Thanks Biffa ... I was hoping it wouldn't require having to "putty" in You can add multiple pools in the interface but it won't load-balance them just failover.

So ... I'm looking to buy another miner ... but the SP20 isn't powerful enough/suitable. The SP35 for November delivery is out of stock, I've no idea if a December delivery batch will be produced (if it was, I'd guess it would already be 'on sale'). Therefore Sponds have no heavy hitting miners for sale right now ... or in the near future? Are we entering a stagnation period where not much hardware is available before the next gen? Just interested in fairly accurate time frames .. and yes 2015 will be a game changer .. I wonder what I will change into I've been told there will be a December batch of Sp35 Otherwise look in the second hand market.

Great writeup Phil. Having owned an SP10, and dealing with the ear-piercing scream it put out, how do the fans on the SP20 compare in pitch to those fans? I don't mind something a little loud as long as it isn't that awful screeching whine. Don't suppose you could grab a quick audio clip of the fans at a few different speeds and post it could you?
They are just as loud, but personally speaking the pitch on the fans is much more tolerable than the SP10. Thanks Bob. Like I wrote, loud is OK as long as it's not screeching. The miners are in the basement. With the SP10, I could hear that thing throughout the house, even with the fans on their lowest settings. I had an S2 and couldn't hear it. I've currently got 8 S3s and can't hear them either. You'll hear the SP20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdkCxfn6W0cDon't get me wrong, I think its one of the best miners out there and I'm probably going to get another one soon, but don't think that its quiet like an S3 or a Jupiter. What level was the fan in that video, 80%? Definitely not anywhere near what the SP10 was. Loud, but low-pitched enough that I wouldn't hear it from the basement. Thanks for sharing that video Biffa! Yes 80% Heres one with the replacement Scythe Ultra Kaze fan: http://youtu.be/ddyps5nf9LA

The SP20 can be under-clocked to ~0.5 J/GH, depending on cooling and specific ASIC batch.
Cooling? Ambient temperature. any specifics? it has to be hot (>25C), cold (<18C) or in a specific range? Measurements were done with Emerson 1600. It offers (according to spec) minimal efficiency of 92% in our tested working points @25C ambient. Is there anyway to cut the fan speed to less than 40? I plan on under clocking and am interested in reducing noise. It could be that these fans don't even start to spin up till they get a certain amount of voltage equivalent to 40 on the UI.

I have 4 blades but they are in the UK so thought you wouldn't be interested due to postal costs.

Is there any reason why none of my SP20's hit the adversited hashing speed of 1700. All of them are 1650 -1500.
Well "officially" from the specs they are "1.7 TH/s ± 10%" But as to why, my experience is that they only get close to 1.7 if they are kept with intake temps of between 20-22°C anything higher and they tend to slow down as the chips reach near their max temps
