Zvi, I am still having an issue with my SP10 running with intake temperatures at or below 0c. Technical support suggested that I update my firmware to 2.5.13, however it is unavailable in the web GUI.

I found the following kb regarding the issue with low intake temps, http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog/15824368-version-2-5-12

That support article seems to indicate that it is for SP20. SP3X. Is it even possible to apply that firmware to an SP10? If not is there a manual workaround that can be done to get the unit hashing with lower than 0 degree intake?

"Version 2.5.12 became the official, 2.5.6 removed and 2.5.13 is the latest experimental.
2.5.12 - different handling of BIST and Murata flow - improves stability.
2.5.13 - sets default (after factory reset) values to 1275/288 in SP3x/SP2x. Redirection bug fixed. Handling of ambient temperatures lower then 0c added."

2.X.X are for SP2x and SP3x. Update to latest version (I think it is 1.5.Cool - you might need to update FW twice (till it says that you have the latest image).
I am at 1.5.8, I just reapplied it to see and it didn't make any difference. Once the intake temp drops to 0 or lower it stops hashing. I'll get about 100 shares processed and then it stops mining. After several minutes the entire unit will reboot and go through the same sequence.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

They said the same thing for the SP20\3x and were still able to provide a fix for them. I'm sure the same logic can be applied here hopefully.

….

I don't see anyone refuting my point that cloud mining (as is) cannot provide any advantage over simply slowly buying BTC.
Mining is fun at home, much less fun at a hosting site or colo and completely meaningless in a "cloud mine"-it does not reward either your soul or your pocket.
well  I agree with you on this point.

If it becomes all cloudmining it is  "meaningless"

I can't see why  the industry insists on pushing to this direction.

I consider it short term thinking.  But what do I know.

Now maybe spondoolies can present it in a manner different then most other companies.

So ... I'm looking to buy another miner ... but the SP20 isn't powerful enough/suitable.

The SP35 for November delivery is out of stock, I've no idea if a December delivery batch will be produced (if it was, I'd guess it would already be 'on sale'). Therefore Sponds have no heavy hitting miners for sale right now ... or in the near future?

Are we entering a stagnation period where not much hardware is available before the next gen?

Just interested in fairly accurate time frames .. and yes 2015 will be a game changer .. I wonder what I will change into  Huh

sorry to jump off the rail regarding the discussion ... though I must say this is the best company for miners, and this is one of the best forums I watch as well.

good points made by all, and at the end of the day we all have our own style ...  Cool

my question is probably pretty silly, but how do you point the SP's to multiple pools in the "Pools" menu?

I've been told there will be a December batch of Sp35

Otherwise look in the second hand market.

Its just cgminer so you have to edit the cgminer.conf file

You have to follow the instructions on that page:

To edit this file, please use SSH to log in to your miner, and then use vi /etc/cgminer.conf

here's my picture of a perfect cloud mining contract:

The purchasing (hire-purchase perhaps?) of full hashboards, instead of piddly little GH/s.
Flexibility to change pools remotely, at the click of a button.
live-feed webcams watching over a warehouse of immersion cooled SP100's (i just made that up)
trading platform with other cloud users, to control pricing and p2p trading of your purchased hashboards.
Fees paid pro-rata by the user, not taken from mined rewards - if fees don't get paid, hashboards power down.
and most importantly - majority of the mining profit to the end user.

i think too much, granted. but some of these ideas are, for me, what might make a perfect cloud mining contract - in essence, i would still want to own the hardware, rather than rent TH/s.

This would be ideal, though if you look at the high-end server hosting market as an analogy what you describe would not be considered cloud mining. For example, take a look at Rackspace. You can lease from them both cloud servers as well as dedicated servers, the latter which could include your own firewalls, storage, backup and IDS/IPS hardware. For dedicated you get to pick from a standard set of hardware, configuration, lease term, and the service level. They set it up for you and manage as little or as much as you need.

I can see this happening for mining. You make your choice and quantity of commodity mining hardware, select your pool configuration, pay your mining equipment lease, power and management fees, and you get to keep ALL mining profits. The only problem is whether anyone can offer this kind of service without adding too much additional cost.

You can add multiple pools in the interface but it won't load-balance them just failover.

I am at 1.5.8, I just reapplied it to see and it didn't make any difference. Once the intake temp drops to 0 or lower it stops hashing. I'll get about 100 shares processed and then it stops mining. After several minutes the entire unit will reboot and go through the same sequence.

kind of.. hopefully

but in FACT when the fw was updated for LOWER temp stability, my SP3x became intolerant of previously acceptable HIGHER (35+) ambient temps.

which is a shame as my 4.7 TH SP30 is now a 4.1 TH SP30.

i have attempted to address this issue on a number of occasions but got ZERO response.

my question is probably pretty silly, but how do you point the SP's to multiple pools in the "Pools" menu?

You point it to first one and have the second as a backup. I was saying about 100 pages ago, changing the pools on the fly does not work with the present cgminer & SPT watchdog approach. As long as when you change the pool priority, the pool ID does not change, the SPT watchdog will restart the software if it detects connectivity with the 1st pool in the list.
Once restarted, cgminer will point again to the ID 0 pool, no matter what the priorities set on the fly are.

You probably will end up making a script to swap cgminer.conf files with different configurations (main pool + backup pool). A small PHP script placed and ran from /etc folder will suffice.
With it, you just rename the config file from your set (i.e. cgminer.btc or cgminer.ppc) into "cgminer.conf" and kill the cgminer process. The watchdog will do the rest.

Hint: if you need to cycle through various pools just call the script with cron .. it'll give you the possibility to mine for example 30% of your miner time for one pool, and the rest for another Smiley you can even use my eligius address for about 1% of the time LOL

On the other hand, mining contacts will make BTC even more scarce and all the geeks who used to mine will cash out and start something else. I won't buy ever a contract, since for me, the whole fun is in setting up the hardware. If I get paid for it, is even better. I don't need to transfer money, so my real use of BTC is on Newegg or tigerdirect. Buying a miner or two with what I made a couple of years ago is another fun part. Heh .. there are more expensive hobbies Smiley For those who made a business out on the BTC landscape, I'm hoping you will do well without end-user owned miners in the future. Guys like jtoomim can use their setup for all kinds of hosting. The landscape its just transforming.

I'm very happy with my SP20's performance with p2pool, it's steady and to spec. I do have a couple of questions though, if someone can help me out:

I want to experiment with the -queue setting, as from my experience p2pool likes this set to zero & reduces the DOA/stale rate. I presume that as there is no flag in the cgminer command already - it is using the default setting of 1? When I add the command "queue":"0" to cgminer via ssh & restart the miner, the queue flag is displayed on the cgminer pools page, but with no value stated underneath, instead of showing 0. Is this a bug, or am I unable to use the queue command on the SP20?

Also, on the asics stats page, am I correct in thinking that board 0 corresponds to loop 0, board 1 to loop 1, etc? I've noticed that loop 0 & 2 are running at a lower temp than loops 1 & 3 - so was wondering if I can increase the watts to those loops/boards via the settings page? Or do the watts have to be the same for all 4 boards (power units on the settings page)?

Thanks in advance  Smiley
