Betabeat has always been nothing more than a news site regurgitator. They find something and copy it with a few changes.

Well, I'm not going to override his decision as a local mod, but my guess is that he just hit the wrong button, since lock and sticky are right next to each other. That being said, it should be up to either him or theymos to unsticky it.
No he posted specifically in the Enterpoint thread that it would be locked and stickied because that was how they would do their penance. I like it. Yeah, but my guess is that you like it because you already disliked BFL for other reasons - the punishment does not fit the crime (i.e. one stupid remark that they apologized for). What if you had made one regrettable remark on some thread, apologized for it, and then found that the moderators had created a sticky about the incident? Would that be just punishment? If so, then the mods better get started creating lots of stickies to exact just punishment on this board. And sure, it does make a difference that they are a company and not a normal forum member, but that still doesn't justify the sticky IMO. lol, I just can't win. Some call me a BFL shill, and you are saying that I hate them. If I was a large company selling to many users making such fuckups as they have, I would also deserve a mean sticky.

Wow, that is a large amount of glopped on paste. Typical peanut butter application from the gorillas in charge of the paste machine at the factory. Clean it off with some Artic Silver ArctiClean 2 part cleaner, and then put on some good replacement paste.

I would like to point out that BFL did NOT apologize immediately. They apologized after moderator DiabloD3 posted on that thread.. Do you research man. BFL's punishment is well deserved.
I disagree, it isn't deserved. I did do my research - you just have a different notion of what counts as "immediately." Sure, they apologized after a number of members, including DiabloD3, called them out for the stupid remark. Still, it didn't take them long to apologize, and the mature thing to do is to accept their apology without childish retaliation. Look, there are lots of reasons to be unhappy with BFL business practices, and they are being picked apart over this to the nth degree in various threads on this forum, but this doesn't justify creating a sticky thread over one unfortunate comment they made. If any other member on this forum had made this comment, it certainly wouldn't have lead to this sticky. So BFL is obviously being overly punished for this simply because one or more of the mods doesn't like them and is blowing the whole event out of proportion. If you want to attack BFL, stick with the real reasons for this - i.e. their business practices - and not one stupid comment they made and apologized for. My point is, they shouldn't be overly punished for the stupid comment just because there are *other* reasons to be unhappy with them. Attack them for the other reasons and let the stupid comment go. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that this has happened and they have been called out on it. Maybe it's been stickied for long enough, but keep it locked.

I can't say I'm overly familiar with the pairing-based crypto, but I think it's mainly used in multi-party key agreement protocols.
Pretty much every crypto used today relies either on integer factorisation or discrete logarithm problem. Those still haven't been cracked.
Is it possible that it could affect multisignature (M of N, P2SH) transactions in any way?

|
|
Does Bitcoin even use any of the cryptography mentioned? I didn't see a specific technology mentioned, just "pairing-based cryptography".
No. Bitcoin uses ECDSA, not pairing based crypto. Very good. I was fairly sure that ECDSA was not a subset of any "pairing-based cryptos", but wasn't certain. However, how does this bode for RSA/SSL/PGP/GPG/etc?

@yohan : do you plan to publish the total number of boards ordered or delivered ? The community often tries to keep track of these numbers (there are dedicated threads for this purpose for other manufacturers) but it would be nice if Enterpoint would communicate them at regular intervals.
Although most businesses don't like to reveal info like this, it's always interesting to know from a statistical perspective.

It's to keep it warm, not to boil it. duh! I can't stand lukewarm coffee.

I like your optimism, but decentralization of bitcoin is getting a huge blow with this trend.
Hmmm... perhaps I know something that you don't. Perhaps you know that people who aren't miners still want their coffee warm Question of the day: Is 2 watts enough to keep a coffee piping hot?

And how much would a factory wafer respin cost from an old maskset, ngzhang? Do you know any numbers there?

Reading this thread just reminded me of something...
Those dudes who invested on CoinLab must be pulling their hair right now lol Half a million down the drain ehehehehe
I had to lol a bit at this too; although thy might be able to sell upgrades in the form of jalapenos do you think? Most gamers will spend a bit to boost their stats. Hopefully openbitasic comes along with something competitive.

You think? I have no doubt the US government opposes the philosophy behind bitcoin, but they're probably far from making any move on it, as it isn't even close to a threat to fiat yet.
Tell that to Bernard von Nothaus. Liberty Dollar wasn't even close to as big as bitcoin when they got raided. That's because he was passing off his shit as genuine US currency. The secret service doesn't like forgers.

So why the hell would anyone want a mini rig if the ASIC is imminent ? Oh yeah, you think they will give you a dollar for dollar trade in. Then what are they going to go with all those useless mini rigs ? give them away to charity ?
This just gets more ridiculous by the moment.
I too wonder what will be done with the old hardware. Since it is FPGA, it seems plausible that they could reconstitute it for other purposes, but not sure what. With only a USB port, it seems that they wouldn't be good for very much.

So what is it, exactly?
50-core x86 co-processor, code named Knights Corner, in a PCIe card. 50 normal cores? And 22nm trigate fab, so its probably some derivative of Sandy Bridge (but with Failabee-like ring busses). I wonder what sort of onboard memory it as and if its considered local memory and normally addressable. Well apparently they are x86 compatible, but I can't imagine that they are totally complete in the sense that they could be used as a main processor. I seem to recall reduced cache and a few other limitatoins.

I don't have a link or know when it was, but I recall discussion of a 140+BTC fee that was paid to Deepbit at one point.
