It would be a nice surprise to see bitcoincard in the next issue of Bitcoin Magazine  Fat chance, apparently MNW is developing a competitor to it that he doesn't want anyone to know about, so he probably wouldn't allow such an article to be included. My role at Bitcoin Magazine isn't to exclude legitimate stories of innovation in Bitcoin. It's to include legitimate news. When bitcoincard is proven to be more than just an over-hyped self-contradicting pipe dream website, I would be more than happy to write an entire piece on it for the print issue. The same goes for MintChip (which will probably end up as a colossal failure but I hope -that- succeeds as well as it serves a purpose). If the Ellet ever gets an article, it'll be because it's been proven, not because I have some kind of special interest in it. Your horridly inaccurate underestimation of our journalistic integrity is quite sickening. I want the same thing you want-- less bullshit and vaporware and more movement. Yet instead of bothering to build something or participate in a movement, you prefer to poke fun at me and all my personal advances in the Bitcoin economy. Classy. Open your eyes to the facts: why don't these bitcoincard guys stick to what they say instead of completely contradicting themselves in their uberhype videos? "Doesn't rely on infrastructure"? What do you call requiring everyone in the world to hold a gateway repeater to the benefit of their neighbors? What do you call a USB dongle? Give me a break. I hope this is all clarified in this trip (that's why they're going afterall), but I'm not holding my breath because we've already found the solution and don't need to wait on anyone else. As a community, we're all waiting to see what Erik and Charlie gather on their trip to Vienna, but I can't say I personally have much faith in any of this being more than fishing for investors for a product that markets itself as a privacy invasive DOA piece of hardware that requires a major rebuilding of a communications infrastructure just so you can be force fed ads. Number one reason why you need an "Announcements" account and a "trolling account". Also your view is being jaded because you are competition, so I think we shall just sit back and see what happens. Furthermore, that statement was from before you actually made the "Ellet" announcement and gave more than just superficial details about it, so gimme a break. |

It's ways more serious than that. I'm not surprised with this being possible, but I am amused to read that it actually happened. As far as we know, the major FPGA manufacturers don't give a flying fuck about Bitcoin and haven't coded anything into the devices to interrupt mining. The reason is that the devices that most miners are using are extremely common and in use elsewhere in other applications, and indeed Bitcoin might only represent a fraction of a fraction of a percentage of the total sales of such devices around the world. If you look, you would notice that the article is specifically referring to an expensive custom FPGA designed for governmental use, likely one that would cost tens of thousands of dollars per chip. Quite a bit different than the $150 chips that most of the Bitcoin miners use. |

Also, oclvanitygen running on a 5870 or similar hardware is much better and faster. |

Hmm I didn't notice this til now. My car has a GPS in it so my Garmin is now defunct. However, the maps are over a year old and probably deserve an update - but the update isn't cheap. Also the device has been registered with Garmin's website, so I would have to see whether it can be easily transferred. It is a Nuvi 1390t with free ad-supported traffic info. I'm not sure of the state of the battery, last I checked it was dead but it should hold a charge for at least a few hours I would think. It has an SD card slot for expansion, but no card right now. I also have a huge repository of Pigtones.com ( weird, site seems to have a compromised script installed right now? Must be a recent problem...) voices installed, so you can have George Bush, Clint Eastwood, GLaDOS, Beevis and Butthead, or any number of other characters guide you around. I have no idea what it is worth, make an offer. |

There have been a large number of AV programs flagging bitmining programs as false positives. You can complain to your AV company, and ignore them for now.
This, and also be sure that you downloaded the mining programs only from the official topics and/or websites of the software coders. |

Do you really need a server that big? How are your CPU Loads over the last 30 days?
I've been playing around with a p2pool server that is 1/4 the cost of yours, and I'm only about 40% CPU load.
But I'm only serving 1.2 GH/s right now, and don't know how well GH/s scales up with CPU Load. Don't forget p2pmining also is merged mining, Litecoin is a beast on memory according to JayCoin. Don't know how it fairs on CPU load.  So sorry I forget to say I'm running merged mining all alt coins and litecoin. My p2pool is taking around half a gig of ram and litecoin is taking around half a gig of ram each. Well besides the number of users, there is also the website, which I assume is on the same server. Apache is a massive resource hog unless it is tuned very carefully, and so that could add a bit of load. |
