...
Thanks Kano.

You wouldn't happen to have ammeter and spare usb extension cable to measure current to device while mining?
Just curious if I can use 2.0 USB hub (5V & 4A) to run 10 of these.  Looks like 8 is max.

Specs say 500mA (or 560mA) but the real world measurement might be different.

Sorry I don't have either.
I have a very old ammeter in a box somewhere that I wouldn't trust to be accurate.
As for USB cables, that would require a USB extension cable to slice up - which I don't have any spare of these either at the moment.

However, if I did, I'd expect the results would not be reliable for deciding about the sapphire hardware.
The emerald and sapphire are slightly different power usage as far as I understand.

I think there are people who have a few sapphire already, so hopefully one of them might see your question.

i have some - but i too lack the ammeter.

i think a few of those i shipped out should arrive tomorrow though.

Specifically which anker 10 port usb 3.0 hub are you using? Could you please provide a website link to the item you have if available? Thank you.

the hub i'm using in that picture is the much discussed 12 port usb hub from saitechi. it wouldn't power more then 3 erupters. i've got an anker 10 port usb 3.0 now (and two more en route) running five of them plus the fan and my cell phone charger no problem.

regarding the heatsink: it's flat, less then a 8th of an inch. i'vegot mine (sapphires) plugged in to an anker 10 port hub and there's plenty of space between them. http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Uspeed-10-Port-Adapter-Chipset/dp/B005NGQWL2

ty, arklan.

So there's your solid software info, thoughtcourier.

arklan reports bfgminer running, perhaps with some hoops to jump through, on Windows.

friedcat's statement on the official stats thread says cgminer works. (friedcat probably used Linux, is my guess.)

i should clarify: it's the latest exe from git, with options -G -S all

course the -G just disables video card mining, so may not be needed in your case. i have a strange Franken-PC with an amd card AND an nvidia one, so mining on one of those but not the other presented complications.

So this is my first asic/fpga miner. Is there a quickstart guide?

- dl bfgminer
- configure bfgminer to target pool
- plug in
- profit

?
Pretty much.

Although,
1) while I've seen that cgminer is reported to work with these, I don't recall if the same has been said for bfgminer. (Due to other considerations, I'm intending to use MPBM.)

2) Reduce all power consumption as much as possible for maximum long term gains. Lots of people use a Raspberry Pi to meet this goal.

3) Don't expect much profit. It will be months, if ever, before these critters hit ROI at the price we've paid for them.

And regarding "?", are you intending to use a Linux or MS Windows machine? Different headaches depending on which way you swing.

i actually couldn't get cgminer to work, but did get bfgminer (with luke's help) working. windows 7, btw.

fyi, the fan in question is a 120mm fan.

regarding the box: i just got off the phone with dhl. i can go pick it up in the morning, they open at 9:30 am...

tomorrow's a busy day for me... post office run for the canadian packages first, then i have an appointment (unrelated) at ten, then off to DHL's office (which is an hour away, mind) THEN i can start packing everything... i also have a class in the evenings. oi...

i will, obviously, have time ot get some of them packed and ready to ship, which i'll take to the post office, but all? i don't expect it. wednesday though for sure.

Arklan:

I'm in Europe, you should be shipping me earlier rather than later. I also paid early, and extra (which you decided post-fact and I agreed to).

Are you shipping them in some particular order? I've tried to find this info but this thread has been spammed a lot and I might have missed it.

Cheerio.

The bulk orders of 10 or more were given overnight shipping AND priority order. I assume when the next box of blocks arrive on Tuesday the rest of us will be sent tracking info shipped Wednesday? If arklan is prepared this time with labels and boxes and a car, perhaps they ship out Tuesday, either way the ETA is looking like Friday through next week.

spot on. boxes are ready this time, labels depend on the weight of each package and can only be ordered day of though. though with 70+ to pack, i don't know that i'll be able to get them shipped tuesday unless i can pick the box up in the morning, which i'll try to do.

On a related note, I looked back on the thread but wasn't able to see that anyone was able to find a hub that was able to power more than 5 of these things.

Did I miss something ? Does such a beast exist ? I'm starting to search on Amazon.com for something to manage all these guys, and not coming up with anything other than the 12 port hub (http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Power-Adapter-Control-Switches/dp/B0051PGX2I/ref=pd_bxgy_pc_img_y) that can power 5 of these things Sad

Would something like this work ?

http://www.mondohub.com/hub_overview.php

-(1) 5 V DC port - Power Adapter: Output: 5 V / 4 A
-Up to 500 mA power, all ports

i ordered and received that hub from amazon.  it was delivered without the external power supply. amazon refunded my order.
i also picked up this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGQWL2 if it does supply 4A, it should handle 7 sticks just fine: 4 Amps /500mAmps= 8, -1 for variances...

i've got one of those too - however i only have 5 miners to test it on... handles them fine though.

SgtMoth has taken his pitchfork out and has been flooding this thread for days on end now, and for what, one stupid unit ?

Arklan, you can refund his BTC and I will buy it, if that will shut him up and liberate this thread of his lack of proper punctuation and stupid animated gif avatar.

Thanks.

and you been a month on this forum and your already trolling....just keep attacking me, others see what your doing.

guess that's a no on the refund then...

If any of you ebay whores...

Yeah, those ebay whores are the worst.

*Checks price. Currently going for $1025*

*Dons fishnet pantyhose*

...holy mother of...

No shit.  That's crazy!  I cannot imagine that very many will sell for that kind of price (if they buyer intends to pay at all) but I've been wrong before.  If it were me, I might hang out at home Tue locked and loaded with OO buckshot awaiting that second box if I could not arrange will-call.

i'm gunless, but yea, i'm gonna see if i can arrange to pick it up... hopefully i can reach them before it's on a truck. i'll try tonight and tomorrow, but i'm not hopeful.

It would seem I drew the Priority Mail short straw.

it would seem the entire shipment went out priority, instead of those 10 and over going express. sigh. i told the girl at office depot to... argh.

i'm offering anyone of the effected buyers a .15 btc refund. just pm me and address.

10 miners ordered and priority for me too.  usps website says: "Expected Delivery By: May 28, 2013" which is still tuesday...

well now that's just confusing.

offer stands though. i didn't pay for express, so the refund is on the table if ya want it.

though with that auction... damn man. Cheesy

i count 186?  can someone correct me if im wrong.  is that how many got shipped

there's the canadians ones that didn't go out, as i said. i'll be taking those to the post office tuesday morning.
1534  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 26, 2013, 07:05:54 PM

610!?

also - guys with 10 or more: it's been brought to my attention that one such order got priority shipping, not express. i'm thinking that, despite my instructions, the office depot worker screwed up. if you guys could check to see if this is the case for you and let me know, i'd appreciate it. i'll figure out some sort of compensation if it's the case. probably a btc refund.

actually up to $820 now... REEEEEEEEDICULOUS!

well, you certainly are making out like a bandit... well done. Cheesy

Any updates for the second batch?  Roll Eyes

not since yesterday. it's caught in holiday weekend hell, unfortunately. it's here in town ready for delivery, but there's no way i can get it till tuesday.

i sent ya one. have you checked your email?

Opposite of what I have once said ...

The issue with a source having 50% is basically however you'd like to interpret this joke (and the other obviously related issues)
Only you need to interpret it seriously ...

This subject has been brought up before, but the current discussion seems to have totally missed it ...

VERY good point. (and i love xkcd.)
1540  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 25, 2013, 11:26:43 PM
Just got my tracking number from Arklan! So, to recap:
- ASICMiner only sold these in lots of 300, which none of us could afford (or chose not to) individually, so we needed a group buy; none of us stepped up to organize this, but Arklan did
- Arklan's group buy was the first to complete, thus making us the first batch to ship, thus making us the first on earth to get to play with these
- Arklan has been pleasant and organized throughout
- While it is arguable that the first batch might not have been re-shipped as fast as humanly imaginable, that hypothetical loss of .013BTC revenue for one day -- we're talking a cup of coffee here -- isn't hurting any of the buyers -- especially taking into account how far ahead of the other group buys we are -- and the only person complaining is a guy who isn't in the first batch anyway, so it doesn't even effect him.
Thank you very much, Arklan! I certainly wouldn't want to deal with all of us.

yea, y'all suck!

i'm kidding, i'm kidding. overall it's gone well, though not perfectly.
