181  Economy / Economics / Re: Is There a Lesson for Economies and Entrepreneurs to Learn from Bankruptcy? on: February 23, 2023, 04:19:36 PM
There's always opportunities, for the right mind that is. However, to be able to launch something in the midst of a economical crisis, then it has to be something rather special, and make sure that it can withstand the different pressures right now. The thing is, running a business is actually extremely difficult at the best of times. Unless, you have a service or product that revolutionizes something or is just in the right time, and the right place; it'll be extremely difficult to do so.

Although, having said that; Bitcoin offers a unique situation where not all services are available at the moment, and therefore you can sort of learn from the mistakes of popular fiat companies, and potentially create a service based of the successful ones. Honestly, a trustworthy way of paying for your rent or mortgages would be appreciated, but then most users here would rather withdraw their Bitcoin from an exchange, and just pay via a direct debit into their mortgage/rent.

You're right though, there's an opportunity to be had not because of the current economical situation we find ourselves in, but the fact that Bitcoin still hasn't matured enough to have its commercial boom.
182  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: February 23, 2023, 02:38:19 PM
I don't think anyone throws out copper, it's worth €6.50/kg! In fact, copper theft is a serious problem. So if you have old pipes, sell it, and buy washers Cheesy
They do! You'd be surprised by the amount of waste of construction sites. Copper isn't even the most expensive thing they throw away. You can blame the quantity surveyors, but there's a ton of waste on construction sites. I know people who have outfitted their camper van with the waste from the construction site that they work at. I'm assuming with permission Tongue. I'm not sure how much pipes or copper cabling weighs mind you, might take a bit to get to the price per kilogram.

However, on the topic of wastage or where you can save a little money; steel washers are everywhere in rubbish places. So, you can always ask them or even construction sites again. Washers are often tossed away after they've completed the project. I'm sure if you ask nicely you could get a freebie.
183  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Devices 'Passport Batch 2' hardware wallet review on: February 23, 2023, 01:34:16 PM
To be fair, most hardware wallets somewhat resemble either those metal wallets you put your credit cards in or PDA devices. So, it shouldn't draw too much attention. However, I'm not one for carrying hardware wallets out in the open, so I guess it's not much of an issue. At least, not the main one. I guess having a hot wallet in a hardware wallet could potentially work, and draw attention.

Although, I step out every day with a wallet, debit card, and all that. So, I'm just as at risk. As long as you aren't carrying your hardware wallet with all your Bitcoin in it, and you take one that's got a small amount meant for spending or emergencies, it's the same as carrying fiat with you. Every day people see you carry fiat, and for the most part it remains safe.
184  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New HW wallet announced: COLDCARD Q1 on: February 23, 2023, 01:27:57 PM
The ol' Nokia batteries could be worth a shout. I know the 18650s are rather thick, but I'm not the most practical when it comes to size. I'm not bothered about a bulky hardware wallet, since I won't exactly be carrying it around with me. Although, I suspect some users would, and I guess manufactures have to take that into consideration. I believe Nokia's are still being manufactured too, right? I'm not sure if they've made more sophisticated batteries these days, but it's probably the most common battery after double A's, and triple A's.

I didn't catch on that the Foundation passport used Nokia batteries, that's pretty neat. I'm glad to see hardware wallets looking to alternatives to the traditional batteries used.

but one that's standardized within the industry with like a three-pin connector.
Yeah, that's one of the requirements. It has to be readily changeable, and potentially salvageable from nearby devices. Like I said lithium batteries tend to have quite a long longevity, especially when they're unused. It's when you lower it, and charge it back up it goes through it's cycles.
185  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: February 23, 2023, 12:58:30 PM
Someone else mentioned copper first, and I know it's not perfect but it's still much better than aluminum and other cheap metals.
If you already have something copper at home than it's possible to use that as custom backup, nobody will think anything suspicious about it, even if it's pipes we are talking  Cheesy

Here is Jameson Lopp testing Copper Safe Seed plate that passed all tests with perfect score, and it costs only $28:
https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/reviews/safe-seed/
I'm not knocking the idea, I just think there's better options. However, that entirely depends on your threat model. I mean, if you don't need to extra strength or durability of stainless steel, then sure copper is a cheap alternative. It could even be free as you say, since most households have dead legs of copper pipes where alterations have been made, and they just capped it off instead of removing it. So, yeah you could probably source it pretty cheaply. You could potentially even talk to construction site managers, and see if you can have some of their waste material. Since, they could through a ton, and a lot of it gets thrown out in their skips.

I personally prefer a more permanent solution though, and by that I mean the extra durability, and corrosion resistance that Stainless Steel offers. Honestly, I believe stainless steel to be overall the best option since it's also not that expensive, and does a good job for most environments.
186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is your reason for gifting bitcoin on: February 23, 2023, 12:48:33 PM
Entirely depends on the person you've given it too, but most often that not the person will sell it, especially if they don't have any interest in Bitcoin. Honestly, if you wanted to help a friend out, and get them out of their current situation there's better ways of doing it. For example, helping them find a job or something like that. Bitcoin isn't always the answer, as much as we'd like Bitcoin to be the answer to everything, it really isn't.

Plus, gifting someone some Bitcoin without actually teaching them about it, could be potentially dangerous due to the fact that they could lose it through not managing it correctly. Personally, I'd stick to more conventional ways of helping friends out rather than using Bitcoin as a means to do it.
187  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 23, 2023, 10:48:31 AM
Well I don't agree with that reasoning and nobody forced him to go division up, but same thing happened with Adesanya when he tried that and I think Adesanya is better fighter than Volkanovski pound for pound.
If UFC can make tricks like moving up Jon Jones in that ranking without any fights, than I can create my own Notblox ranking and put Khabib as still best pound for pound fighter in MMA Smiley
That's fair enough, I mean the pound for pound title is subjective at best. It's suppose to mean the best fighter based on their weight. Khabib definitely should be considered for it, as well as Izzy. The thing with Izzy he actually did perform pretty well, and he was severely underweight in that fight. So, yeah it's expected that we would lose going in so light.

However, just because someone loses a fight, a very close one at that; in a higher division doesn't mean they should lose the pound for pound title in my opinion. Again, it's very subjective, but it's not like Makhachev in his normal weight class absolutely dominated Volk, far from it. It's the same with Izzy vs Jan, does anyone really think Jan is better? Or was it due to the physical advantages?
188  Other / Meta / Re: Welsh on: February 22, 2023, 07:52:39 PM
I'll quote his post from his last thread: "Welsh my apologies", which unfortunately got deleted again. It seems like he's having difficulty responding to threads properly.
Yeah, I removed that thread also since it wasn't needed. Anyhow, they've figured out how to respond again now. Fairly old user, but I guess after a long period of inactivity you could forget how to use the forum correctly. It does seem like they might have returned due to their issues with their wallet though, and that's a fairly stressful situation so it was probably due to the frustration from that also.

Hopefully no more problems going forward.

There's a Nigerian adage which says "A fowl stands with one leg in a new place she doesn't understand " which means as a new comer when things aren't going well, you should at first calm and try to figure out how things work before you jump into conclusions. But some people don't do so, they ignorantly follow up matters they don't really understand.
I know Welsh is not offended because he knows that OP is kinda confused about how the forum works.
Just to be clear, I definitely don't advocate the way it was handled, and I imagine some users would get upset about it. However, I sort of suspected the circumstances, and at the end of the day it was just pure frustration. I've definitely been called worse Wink.
189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 22, 2023, 07:35:38 PM
I have a clue and its very simple, and its happen in the whole world of football.

In Premier League the 20 teams have tons of money and you only can put in the pitch 11 players, so you can buy X star but other its also buying other star and you cant have all the stars because you cant put them in the pitch, so we are heading to a football where all the teams have superteams in term of stars or future stars, but you are not gonna know never if this season can be good or bad.

In addition all the players are supertop so its more like a chemistry between players than skills of them. What are the main diference between top coachs? How they manage the locker room.

Cohesion has always been one of the top factors of a team being successful or not. It's why United were absolutely terrible despite having world class players. Liverpool still have world class players, and I don't think they've lost that chemistry, but rather lost the motivation. I was just talking about it in the Fury vs Usyk thread, but as soon as you reach your goal, i.e Liverpool winning the Premier League, and Champions League you lose motivation. So, we could be seeing something similar here with the players at Liverpool. They aren't as motivated for success. This might pass, and I imagine it's also a combination of teams learning to play against us, and also aging players.

Klopp has always been the best man manager for me, even before he was at Liverpool. I remember saying to someone when we were rumoured to sign Klopp, I said something along the lines if we get him, it'll be our best signing ever, and I was absolutely spot on. The guys a gem, not perfect, but a damn good manager.
190  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 22, 2023, 07:31:23 PM
I am just saying that Volkanovski can't be best pound for pound fighter, despite his great performance, he lost the fight.
Now I am hearing news of Islam's mother saying that she wants to see him quit fighting, and we all remember that was the reason Khabib retired from MMA at the top.
We don't know if Islam will do this
Pound for pound means best per pound of weight basically. Remember, that Volk moved up, just because he lost doesn't actually make Islam the number one pound for pound. I would agree with the reasoning that Volk is still the pound for pound champ. He basically moved up, and nearly won. That's the very definition in my opinion.

Obviously, to really cement things I think we'll need the rematch. It was just too close to call. I also, don't take Islam as much as a family man as Khabib. I might be wrong in that, but Khabib left at a time where he was dominant. I don't see Islam being quite as dominant at the moment. That could change, obviously.
191  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK sponsored by Utopia on: February 22, 2023, 07:26:49 PM
You better remember how Fury shamefully avoided a rematch with Klitschko, and by the way, he later admitted that Klitschko would have dumped him on canvas:

Quote
I wasn’t about to get laid out on the canvas by Klitschko for money. That’s what would’ve happened.
https://www.givemesport.com/1419365-tyson-fury-reveals-struggles-prior-to-his-cancelled-rematch-with-wladimir-klitschko-in-2016/

But depression prevented him and no money interested him. And now he is only interested in money, and although "he can easily beat Usyk," he avoids the fight because there is not enough money  Grin
Sounds true, right?
Did he shamefully avoid a rematch though? It's quite clear he was going off the rails at that point, and I wouldn't call that avoiding the fight. He was in serious trouble during that time, and it makes sense. Once you've achieved something you've aimed for your whole life, all that adrenaline, and motivation is gone. That's hard to get over, especially since he effectively reached the very heights of boxing.

I'm wondering whether all this stalling is because he's afraid of that happening again. If he did beat Usyk, realistically it's only Joshua left, and I think he makes easy work of that. He'd effectively would've beat everyone in his division. Part of his recovery was he looked beyond Klitschko, and there were options. If he beats Usyk, and Joshua there's ultimately no one else to prove himself against.

Also, I do believe that quotes a little out of context, he would've got laid out, and he believes that because he was in such a bad state. Nothing to do with him fighting again with a good state of mind, he was just off the rails already at that point.
192  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 26 in Saudi Arabia on: February 22, 2023, 07:23:13 PM
One thing I noticed the other day was Tommy has freakishly long arms:
Fair play to the lad, he's got some proper arms on him hasn't he? That could be a game changer, I actually thought Jake Paul ahd a chance here, but being a boxer Tommy Fury definitely knows how to box behind a jab, we haven't really seen anyone against Jake Paul who really utilized a jab. I actually can't get over the arm span on him Cheesy. Boxers dream that is.

This is why I'm a little bit gutted, Tommy seems to have everything going for him, but he's never really caught the eye. Glimpses, and he looks really good, but other times it looks like he's just doing what he needs to do, but not really pushing the pace. I'm not sure if it's because he's afraid of living up to the name, and therefore doesn't necessarily try as hard as he could.

The only thing is; looking back at Tommy's fights he doesn't actually sit behind his jab all that much, despite his massive arm reach. So, not sure how well he'll use it in this fight either.
193  Other / Meta / Re: Welsh on: February 22, 2023, 02:33:04 PM
I've removed the other duplicate, one with the least replies. I'll keep this thread about since it technically is complaining about me, and not directly about the thread being moved.

For anyone that's confused, grumpygit had a thread that was moved, then posted in Bitcoin Discussion about it being deleted, so I moved that to the Meta section, but left a redirect since I suspected they just didn't understand how the forum works, that's probably when grumpygit saw I moved it, but maybe jumped to the conclusion that was a removal notice or something. Hence, the original posts contents Tongue. grumpygit did make another thread apologizing, so I do think it's just a case of not knowing how the forum works, as that was also in the wrong section Cheesy. I've removed that, although of course apology accepted.

This is why staff shouldn't waste their time contacting newbies.
Sometimes users need a little help working out the forums software. I mean, Simple Machines Forums is anything, but simple. Well, it's pretty simple if you're used to forum platforms, but not everyone is. I suspected that this user was losing his posts, and not understanding that they were getting moved. That's not a massive big deal, as long as it doesn't continue to happen, and we get a ton of threads Tongue.

As for the way grumpygit delivered their frustrations, water off a ducks back. I sort of get when users feel they're being hard done by, and that's obviously going to make you feel like you're being personally attacked, and your freedom of speech being restricted. So, it's not a big deal. It's just a misunderstanding, that's really all it is.

194  Other / Meta / Re: Welsh on: February 22, 2023, 02:10:37 PM
I've contacted you via personal message explaining exactly what's happened to your posts, i.e they haven't been removed they've been moved. Moderators move threads that do no belong in the section you've posted in, to keep things organised. There's no personal vendetta against you.  If you do need some more help figuring out how the forum works, just reply to the personal message I sent you, and I'm more than happy to help out.

If you need to find a post that you've lost, just check here.

I will likely remove some of the duplicate posts you've made about the same issues recently, but I'll give you time to see the personal message or this post first. Unless, another moderator removes it beforehand. Seems like you've now figured it out.

It does seem that some of your posts were removed, due to being duplicates, although the originals have all been kept. I imagine the same issue has happened here, where you've lost a thread, and then opened a new one.
195  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 26 in Saudi Arabia on: February 21, 2023, 05:56:03 PM
The argument of Jake Paul not taking the sport seriously is just not accurate. He's dedicated the last few years of his life to the sport. He might've not been a boxer when he was a youngster, but he's still quite young, and obviously has a passion. We all discover our passions at different times in life. Making a mockery would be setting bad match ups, and claiming he's the best in the world. I haven't seen him claim that once.

Jake Paul is actually a decent boxer too. I don't know how far he'll make it, but it's quite clear to me that he has some natural skill, and he's developed that via training. I know why this opinion is lingering around, since I wasn't a fan of Jake, I don't think many people were when he first entered the sport due to his reputation on Youtube. However, for the most part he's actually presented himself quite well, looks somewhat humble, and delivers in the ring. You can't ask for more than that from a boxer. He's not going to be a world beater, but I don't get the obsession that everyone has to be. I support fighters that have no chance of ever holding a belt, simply because I like their style or personality, and Jake Paul is no different there.

He's also put a ton of eyes on the sport, which has to be at least respected.
196  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 21, 2023, 05:51:29 PM
I don't think Volkanovski was robbed per se, I just personally saw him winning, and there's definitely a case to be made. However, I wouldn't call it being robbed, since that would imply that Islam had no chance of winning whatsoever, but still won. I've seen a few of those types of fights mind you, but this fight wasn't convincing either way.

I've listed my reasons why I think Volkanovski won, but the judges see it different, and Volk knows that better than we do. So, he's got work to do in the rematch, since he'll need to convincingly beat Islam. Hopefully, via a finish.
197  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 21, 2023, 05:46:32 PM
Does anyone actually have any idea what has caused the inconsistency from everyone this season? We had a similar story during Covid, but that was self explanatory. I literally don't have a clue what's going on this season, and like I said this is the least amount of football I've watched in the last few years.

Also, doesn't help I've had a few events during this season which has taken me away from it all. I forgot to predict quite a few weeks Cheesy. I wonder where I'd be if I didn't, at least three spots higher I imagine.

I'll be watching Liverpool tonight in the Champions League, but I'm sure I'll regret that Cheesy.

You might as well carry on even if you dip in and out as you can still win the $50 weekly freebet which should be worth the participation alone.
I'll probably join next season anyway, I love donating my money to this competition Tongue!
198  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 19, 2023, 07:45:50 PM
I'm looking forward to the Jon Jones fight, but I'm a little nervous. I'm not a massive fan of either fighters, but I'm hoping Gane doesn't get the belt, just because I don't find him all that entertaining. At least, Jon Jones offers some entertainment, and his generally quite rounded. I'll be putting him on my betting slip, that's for sure.

The biggest failure was the debut of Khusein Askhabov, who was an undefeated fighter with 23 fights and he was outclassed by Jamall Emmers which begs the question whether all of his opponents were cans to have an undefeated record this long  Cheesy.
Yeah, a real odd one. I believe a very decorated Sambo fighter too. Not sure, what the level of his opponents were since I haven't followed his career, but he definitely had a lot of hype coming into the fight, but didn't look all that special. It might be that he just didn't feel comfortable on his debut, but at the end of the day I was expecting more from him. I had him on my betting slip also, as I'm sure a lot of users here did.

199  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 19, 2023, 06:01:49 PM
Just checked my points in the pool for this match week, 4.5 points hmmmmm. I used to be good at this, I won the pool a few years agp, came third another year and I was second in the Russian World Cup. Since then it’s like I don’t know football, I’ve been terrible haha.

Currently sitting in 40th place out of 61.

I've said it before, however this season is ridiculous. No team has any consistency, and it shows in the standings. Just look at some of the quality teams currently sitting towards the bottom of the table, and then some of the lesser quality teams around the top. It's a crazy season, and I don't even know what's caused it. I don't think it was the world cup that interrupted the season, but that did kind of put me off from watching as many games as I usually do.

I've respectfully withdrawn from my predictions formally into superbru as a result Cheesy. Nah, I missed quite a few rounds which meant it's pretty much impossible to actually compete any more, especially when I'm not watching as much football this season.
200  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: February 19, 2023, 05:14:37 PM
Copper washers are also widely available and cheap, but I am sure everyone already have something from copper in their home, just make sure it's pure copper, not some of the cheaper alloys.
I checked local prices for copper washers and they are very cheap, but I would always choose stainless steel if I had the option to choose, because it has much higher melting point and I think it's more durable.
It would be interesting to see stress testing for copper washers, maybe that Italian member (can't remember his name) can do another round of testing soon with more acid and fire Smiley
When you consider price, I mean the loss of strength in copper probably isn't worth it. I think copper should be left to pipes in your home, and not as a way of storing something important on them. Stainless steel, and potentially titanium are really really the only options you need. Though, personally in this application stainless steel is the superior choice, and readily available from every single hardware store.

You also get Copper Oxide from Copper, and that's not something you want when dealing with storing indentations. I mean, technically you could clean it up, but what's the point when there's other materials which aren't as prone to oxidizing in the first place?

Because of malleability? Are you serious?
Right, generally the more malleable it's the more prone to accidental damage. Obviously, that entirely depends what you're doing with your seeds, and what sort of risk they're potentially subjected too, but I'd like to think most of us would like one of the most durable options, especially when the price difference isn't substantial.
