1121  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK on: August 26, 2022, 01:03:25 AM
Fury will have his focus purely on any potential unification fight which will place him alongside the greatest heavyweight boxers before him. Things will never be the same again after Fury and family become part of a reality show, it will be difficult for him to be taken seriously again.

Any reality show might happen after he retires but even then what purpose will it serve him?
I guess he's setting up his life after boxing, and considering how he's been quite vocal about his life without boxing, and how it affects his mental health, I think looking for an alternative or something to keep him occupied is a good thing.

I'm not against the show, I just want to see the fights. Joshua, and Usyk ideally, and then he can drive off into the sunset, and do whatever show he wants. I just don't want to be robbed of not knowing who's best for definite, even though I'm a firm believer that Fury is the best of this era.
1122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK on: August 26, 2022, 12:11:35 AM
I have bad news for all of us, it seems Fury is just taking us all for a ride with his demand but the truth is he will have an up-and-coming series “At Home with the Furys”,
Well, that's not what we want to hear, although I do recall his previous documentary actually being pretty decent. I can't remember what that is called, so not sure if it's related or not. That was basically about his home life, and how he copes with mental health. Sounds like this proposed series will be along the same lines.

I would've thought that the series could be delayed though, and I imagine there would be more interest in the series if they can market it on fight night to millions of people, but that's just me. I would've thought that the boxing purse would be higher than the Netflix one too.

I can't bet against Tai, and him being the underdog is always quite enticing with his recent rise to fame. The man is a star, even if his career will be somewhat short lived. The way he fights, basically makes his fights a coin toss, and I think Gane would know how to not get hit by him, since most of Tai's knockouts come from fighters just sitting in the pocket, and banging. Lewis found that out.

Gane will just look to touch him up, and then use his feet to get out of the way, and re-establish that distance. Tai will have to really work hard. I actually think that's how it's going to play out, and will probably be a rather boring fight. The value bet for me is it going the distance.
1124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 25, 2022, 03:47:21 PM
Yup, no value on Chimaev.  He's at 1.08 and Diaz is at 8.40.  I just feel like Diaz doesn't care anymore.  Chimaev will win the match but he won't be given the satisfaction of the win because Diaz could not be training right now and might just take the fall and make it really obvious that he took the fall.  Dunno...  But watch the BMF match between Masvidal and Diaz.

...  I think Diaz was thinking "wups, ref stopped the fight, give me my money.".

Watch it.
Funnily enough, I've gotten that impression multiple times from Diaz. He's a volume fighter, and usually takes a lot of damage. Chimaev likely puts him a way. I think he might survive a round, but other than that pretty clean sailing for Chimaev I would think.

The thing is for me, if Chimaev wins it a dominant fashion or not, it doesn't increase his stock for me whatsoever, he has taken the easiest fight possible pretty much. That doesn't say much after coming out of the Burns fight, which kind of derailed his invincibility war path he was on.

Makes money for him, and Dana though so they aren't all that bothered.
1125  Other / Meta / Re: Entrepreneurship subboard on: August 25, 2022, 03:44:08 PM
Unlike the kinds we have here on bitcointalk that is not specific, but are general boards for general discussion.
The only thing with that is making things too specific makes it actually harder to find things, and then you have users questioning whether it goes into x or y because technically it covers both sections. So, you do get a bit of a dilemma that way. I'm a fan of categorisation, but not so specific that it becomes a little tedious to crawl through the forum.

I think generally the forum is doing alright. I'd like to see the altcoin section get a few more dedicated sections, equivalent  to the Bitcoin section, but other than that I think we've pretty much got what we need.
1126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do pruned nodes help the network? on: August 25, 2022, 11:41:37 AM
I use CoinMarketcap.com to find the "official" website, and then just download the wallet from there. With VPN, of course.
I suppose you're running it on a Linux system, without running the software on that device that's connected to the internet? Hey, you've been doing it for a while so nothing wrong with your approach, I was just wondering, since I'm very cautious of unknown applications, even when running on Linux. Strictly downloading the software, isolating it, so that it doesn't compromise to machine or the network. Network is the weakest point in your process I'd assume, but if you aren't executing it on a internet connected device, then I suppose the risk is minimal anyway.

I expect the CPU to matter much more than anything else. Rule of thumb: if it needs a fan, it's not good.
Yeah, anything that requires motion is going to be the biggest power consumptions. So, ideally you'd be running it on a SD card potentially, and without a fan. Then, you'll have the least power consumption as possible.
1127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK on: August 25, 2022, 11:27:24 AM
That is the other thing, if everyone involved is not going to get the money they want, the fight might not actually happen and starts to point at each other as the reasons for the fight not being made.
Which is usually what happens with these types of fights. It's partly the reason I've actually lost interest in boxing as a whole. I only tune in for the heavyweight fights now, and usually Joshua, or Fury fights, despite not being a fan of Joshua I do like to route against him quite a bit Tongue.

In the UFC you have big fights all the time, but I think boxing are too concerned with building up their fighters with a zero on their record, that they end up doing that at the end of their careers too. In the UFC people expect you to lose at some point.

Obviously, Joshua has lost so that doesn't apply, but it's the other issue of actually getting an answer to a question which has been asked for the last few years, which is who's the best of this era, Joshua or Fury. Obviously, Usyk has since entered that equation. Although, Usyk certainly didn't look unbeatable the other night.
1128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 25, 2022, 11:24:26 AM
I think Cyril Gane doesn't mostly go to ground fights, he is more of a technical fighter, and surely his fight IQ will surely work here against Derrick Lewis we don't expect that result that he can knockout Lewis, but he surely did, I want to see a rematch against Ngannou, I think that experience from that fight can surely make him realise how he can deal with Francis Ngannou,
Ngannou fight was a weird one. Seems like Ngannou was injured, I think something to do with his knee if I recall correctly? Gane was the favourite in a lot of people's eyes, I can't quite remember on the bookies side of things. However, he just didn't perform, and Ngannou actually beat him by wrestling, which is something we thought Gane had the upper hand in.

I do think Gane beats Ngannou in the rematch, since he'll be a little more wary of those take downs, and Ngannou didn't have the speed on the ground. I like Ngannou though. I'm not sold on Gane, and he didn't show a lot of heart in that fight, whereas Ngannou did, despite the injury.
1129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do pruned nodes help the network? on: August 25, 2022, 11:19:29 AM
Can you estimate how much electricity is spent for running pruned node compared to running normal laptop system?
I think old laptops spend a lot of energy for screens and processors, but turning off screen can reduce consumption.
Used RAM is cheap so I don't think that would be a problem, if it's not soldered and can be upgraded.
You could probably measure this by getting one of those power consumption plug ins, and running both a pruned, and full node for an extended time. I doubt anyone has looked as this though. I imagine the differences aren't all that much in terms of energy consumption. Especially if you're running it on a cmd line based system, rather than a graphical interface.

Might be something I'm interested in doing though. If anyone has any thoughts on the best way of going about measuring the consumption of both, I'd like to hear them.
1130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do pruned nodes help the network? on: August 25, 2022, 11:16:13 AM
Yeah, to put it basically. Although, less than a full node. Unless you want to do it as a hobby, we probably would prefer full nodes to pruned nodes. Although, it's not like the network is in dire need, so while every node does count, it really depends on what your motivations are. You aren't going to earn from it, and you aren't going to be giving the full benefits to the network, however you will be providing more of a contribution by running a pruned node, than without running one at all.

So, it depends on your situation, and whether or not you can justify the costs associated with running a pruned node, whether it's worth it or not.

Old laptops are good for running untrusted wallets though, that's what I do:
All this fits on 160 GB Smiley
Just out of curiosity, how are you handling the downloading, and transferring of these untrusted wallets? I usually do it via Qubes OS so everything is isolated, and no need for a old computer, unless of course you want physical isolation, which is always going to be theoretically better than virtualisation.
1131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 25, 2022, 11:10:02 AM
I just feel like this is a fight that's happening because it'll make Chimaev look absolutely next level, because Diaz is a fan favourite, and is still held in high regard by many. The reality is he's been off the paces for a few years now, and isn't the fighter he used to be. Plus, Chimaev did lose some stock after that Burns fight.

So, I do think this is feeding Diaz to the dogs type of bout, and I'll probably be avoiding the fight all together in terms of betting. There's no reward for the obvious choice, and the likelihood of the underdog getting anything is rather slim. I'd say it's probably the most mismatched fight of this year.
1132  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy Tips: Don't send round amount on: August 25, 2022, 11:05:57 AM
Don't believe Blockchair's privacy score, it's terrible. This transaction for example has "Privacy 95 High", while it's the exact same thing every week.
Seems to me like it's added fluff to give its users the impression that they're a step ahead of the competition, without it actually meaning anything at all. Probably, a loosely implemented feature without any meaningful criteria.

I've noticed that Blockchair has a tonne of advertising they like to do, so that's probably why they've implemented something like this, since users will think it's a handy feature without actually knowing what determines it.

Based on the information you've provided at least, that's the impression I get. Although, I generally quite like the platform compared to some others.
1133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK on: August 25, 2022, 10:30:27 AM
Fury is the favourite for a knockout, and the decision win in my book. I think he'll do it in style though. Usyk was hurt multiple times by Joshua, and I think Fury can put more pressure on Usyk, and use his size advantage to tire out Usyk, and prevent him from moving so much, something that Joshua didn't implement into his game plan.

I definitely can't see Usyk knocking out Fury, but crazier things have happened I suppose. I do feel he'll struggle a little more with the height difference though, and Fury is the type of fighter to lean on you like I previously mentioned.

I'm just hoping it gets made, and doesn't get cancelled like the Joshua vs Fury fight. Obviously, that was due to the Wilder fight, but I seriously don't trust boxing to make the fights that need to happen, actually happen.
1134  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should Employers Screen Applicants for Problem Gambling Before Employment? on: August 25, 2022, 10:21:44 AM
I personally don't think so. However, help should be offered. I know therapy can only do so much, but the reason a lot of people turn to gambling is because they're poor, and they're trying to get out of that. That might sound counter productive, but I bet most of us know that this happens, and usually it results in them being even more worse off.

The system is basically designed to keep you poor, and I can't blame someone for looking for an alternative. However, I'm not advocating the crimes committed in the OP, obviously. However, I do believe more help should be provided by the government for struggling families, since they only get into gambling for a reason.

Maybe, gambling companies should have proof of income like credit cards have, and a approval system put in place, but then we're starting to get into KYC territory.
1135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Rematch - JOSHUA vs USYK II (updated thread) on: August 25, 2022, 10:18:39 AM
I also think Joshua gets knocked out by Wilder, however I imagine he'll go back to that safe boxing technique he did against Ruiz in their second fight, which isn't very entertaining. I still think Wilder catches him regardless though.

I was a little more impressed by Joshua on the weekend. He did better than expected, and he had Usyk hurt a few times it seemed with those body shots. Ultimately, he hasn't got enough of a skill set if plan a doesn't work. Whereas boxers like Fury, and Usyk have multiple ways. I still do believe that Fury has the entire tool kit needed though, whereas Usyk only has a little more than Joshua.

Next fight I'd make is Joshua vs Wilder, Fury vs Usyk, and then allow the winners to take each other one to clear up any doubt. I'd imagine Fury would win, and Wilder. I know Wilder has already faced Fury a number of times, but they've always been entertaining so I wouldn't mind seeing a fourth.

Fury, and Joshua need to fight at some point though, otherwise they'll always be the what if questions. Fury needs to cement himself as the goat of this era in my eyes. He's already so close to doing it, despite his dividing personality.
1136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Teaching Bitcoin To My Friends| You're invited too on: August 25, 2022, 10:05:02 AM
PS: If you have friends who don't know anything about Bitcoin, start teaching them. Believe me, you will be happy after each meeting Wink
I've tried multiple times, however I always get the same response after a few months. They tend to forget about everything we've talked about, and don't use that information that I gave them to do their own research. However, I'll admit that might be due to me being a awful teacher, I'm not sure.

I find most people that I come across are interested in Bitcoin in some way, but ultimately it's a little bit too much work to understand it, since it's not a easy thing to understand right off the bat. I've never attempted a class room teaching scenario like you've done above though, only really had one on one conversations. I think I've convinced one person to be interested enough to believe Bitcoin might be a better alternative, but to my knowledge they've yet to get stuck in.
1137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Describe what Bitcoin has done for you on: August 25, 2022, 10:01:59 AM
I'm glad to see some users claiming that it hasn't changed their life all that much. That's the thing with Bitcoin, it gets built up like its a miracle worker, and don't get me wrong for a lot of people it has been revolutionary, however not everyone has the same objectives.

For example, the benefits that Bitcoin bring like not relying on a third party, can actually have drawbacks if you're a certain type of person. I don't like to give this example, but I sometimes find that the older generation are much more comfortable with trusting a bank, simply because they haven't kept up with technology, and therefore don't trust themselves to manage their own money, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Someone like me on the other hand, are incredibly suspicious of banks, and find their additional checks, and process too long. I've had payments flagged up, which I then had to confirm my identity, and all of that, but with Bitcoin I can just pay without those additional checks. At the end of the day, it's my money, that I legally earned, so I shouldn't have to go through additional checks. Obviously, I do understand why they do it, it's to prevent fraud, and unauthorised use of your card or bank, but that's something I'd like to be able to opt out of, which you can't with every major bank I've used.

Obviously, that's just one example of the restrictions imposed by using a third party like a bank, but there's many more which either suit a person or don't. Bitcoin hasn't made me stinking rich, but it has aided the life I wanted to have, and by that I mean more freedom, not because I've got more money, but because I ultimately control every aspect about my finances.
1138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 25, 2022, 09:42:38 AM
friendly reminder that The Saints have a really bad record against Man Utd:

Man United are in high spirit, Sancho unlocked, Rashford unlocked, yeah i think they're gonna smash southampton... United -1.5 handicap @2.75 free money  Wink
Considering how abysmal Man United were back last season, that's quite surprising that they managed to win those games. However, Southampton have also dipped in quality in the last few years. I might predict Southampton on the pool to win, and then just put a small bet on United. That way hopefully I get a result on one of them. Knowing my luck they'll probably draw if I do that though. I don't tend to like going for draws though, unless it's a 0-0.

Rashford definitely looked better though, and I'm happy for him. Seems like a generally good person, and he has had it rough the past year or so. I felt like the fans were turning against him a little bit.
1139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 25, 2022, 09:37:51 AM
No, I don't think so too. If the fight will end in a stand-up fight Diaz will just have a sore face and body with the added loss.
The only chance I could see is thru submission which will be a difficult task to achieve when fighting Chimaev because no one had successfully managed to take him down yet.
Then, if ever by some miracle it does happen, Nate has to worry about the counter with Chimaev having the same skills in submission.
A win from Nate here will almost look like how Edwards won. Unexpected.
I'd say he has more chance on the feet than on the ground, and I believe that speaks volumes since I don't think he has much chance on the feet. I'd be very surprised if he manages to submit Chimaev, but you could argue that crazier things have happened in the last year, we've had massive favourites, including this weekend just gone lose, so I can't be 100% sure obviously.

However, I do consider this one of those fights were the favourite wins 9.5 times out of 10. Honestly, I'd love to see Diaz win, and while not being a fan of either of the fighters I'll be hoping Diaz pulls off the upset.
1140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 24, 2022, 03:22:09 PM
I'm more excited to see Diaz than Chimaev as Chimaev's stock went down when he fought Burns imho.  Watch this...
I'd agree, but I actually think Burns is underrated, he was giving Usman problems, right up until he discovered Burns doesn't like the jab. Honestly, I see Burns getting the belt if he can sort out that jab issue he has. He probably has some of the most lethal ground game in the division, and he can bang.

Chimaev, I'm not actually a fan of, but I think he makes a mockery of Diaz. I probably won't be betting on that fight, since the odds will be absolutely awful, unless you're going for Diaz. I'm just not convinced Diaz has it in him.
