I've started coding this based on Freenet's Library plugin. I'll let you know when I have something that works.

Post history matches some criteria of a few other accounts on this forum that were set up specifically for Ponzi schemes. Would you be willing to submit to a background check and verify ownership of multiple credentials obtained through it?
1823  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: I disagree that Bitcoin is money, currency. on: February 20, 2013, 10:04:41 PM
Bitcoin seems to be a digitial commodity, such as a share of ownership in a piece of software would be. I am not sure why so many people think it's a currency with such massive fluctuations. Being able to be transferred easily doesn't make something a currency, nor does the opposite make it a commodity, I admit. If anyone needs an argument why it could be considered a commodity more than a currency though, since when did currencies *penalize* their users for spending money (the reason people don't spend commodities)?
1824  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A new idea for bitcoin markets on: February 20, 2013, 09:57:20 PM
if people need help,..

People don't need help, they need markets and thus, speculation. Be taking the market competitiveness out of the equation (and thus the cooperative communication/speculation of desired prices and worth), you're basically stranding any buyers/sellers to an island community situation where someone would sell a shell for $100, only to return to the real world and realize the shell is worth $0.01 USD.

Also, referring to the forum for information would be a form of *centralization*. What do you people use without the forum? Now you see what this other individual is talking about when he refers to this problem as a "holy grail". It is something the newest Ripple implementation was designed to provide, unfortunately they have a problem with potentially harboring more scammers than Bitcoin ever has so long as they avoid vetting their gateways.

Forgive me if I'm off base here, but *total freedom* as you're describing it sounds like *pricing chaos* to me.
1826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Google a friend of Bitcoin or an enemy? on: February 20, 2013, 06:44:49 AM

They are helping bitcoin by providing more places where bitcoins are useful. We just need a way to tell all those people being cut off by the credit card companies that they can switch to bitcoins and continue their business.

I guess that's one way of looking at it. I remember how Google's actions against piracy (cooperating in DMCA takedowns) would actually make it simpler for users to find DMCA offending sites by grouping the "banned" addresses together on Chilling effects, so basically if you ever wanted to find something for sure, you'd just skip over the existing links and go straight to the chilling effects ones.

That'd be fun if they did that for the fund-cut sites as well.

I know it's a repressive regime but it's scary that the NK people haven't done something about this.

It's coming, and hopefully in our lifetime. I was very excited to see Google visiting North Korea again last month. I really hope that the North can become educated enough to change just enough to stop hurting its own citizens, but not enough to sell itself out to the US like every other country has. South Korea is ruined imo. It's basically tiny USA now, living on credit card debt and fighting over who has the bigger car.
1829  Economy / Services / Re: Pizza Hut Ordering Section is now LIVE!!! on: February 18, 2013, 07:14:22 PM
I can purchase a large pizza with the works for only $9.95 over at costco  Wink

Now that would be something if we could get Costco to take Bitcoin  Grin

I don't know about back home in the USA, but the Costco's in Korea are pretty elitist about their currencies. They only accept a very specific and limited issue Samsung credit card or straight cash, screw everyone else. They also make more profit than any other food/merchandise store in the entire country and are constantly up against the government for basically succeeding too much as a foreign company (typical in Korea). It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't want to touch bitcoins for the same reason as any other business with a profit margin larger than Bitcoin's market cap.
1830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin be a solution for the raw milk market? on: February 18, 2013, 06:56:00 PM
Years ago, Mathis Dairies in Atlanta was forced by the FDA to put a label on the milk that came right from the cow, bottled then delivered to local residents. Label read "ARTIFICIAL MILK"

This pissed me off, so I did some research and found this comment among other things. According to someone else who claims to have lived in Atlanta and drank that milk, the FDA had attempted to do that due to the lack of adding vitamin A and D to the milk, not because it was raw. Just the same, this individual claims the FDA has been unsuccessful. What is your source?
1831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I suggest we create a series of cryptocurrencies based on different hashes... on: February 18, 2013, 06:38:51 PM
also if a hash did get hacked the core developers would just change it a different hash

Is that possible? Would that require a significant amount of reworking?

Probably, but if means bitcoin is secure then they will have to do it. One day these hashes will be cracked, nothing soon but one day, so they have to have a plan in place for that.

I guess the biggest hurdle would be making it all backwards compatible. I heard that even changing the code to allow for more than 8 decimals would require a significant rewrite and everyone in the entire network accepting it, making it kind of like a "Y2K" issue.

I just have to ask. Is this Dank's way of pleading insanity in his scamming case?
1833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin isn't going to make it: The National Security Agency on: February 18, 2013, 06:28:20 PM
Third, CIA might also benefit from it Smiley

This. Why does anyone think "anonymous" is anyone but the CIA? Why does anyone think Tor was created by hackers when it's major funding is provided continuously by the US government (the FBI if I recall correctly)? Why would anyone think that Bitcoin is anything but awesome for what the CIA does-- which is to pretend that there are bad guys doing what it is that they did themselves.

E-Gold tried that. Unfortunately, it's all semantics. Anonymous value trades of any kind will eventually have the same outcome in the face of big government no matter how you spin it.
1836  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Chicago Meetup on: February 16, 2013, 06:49:17 AM
If I move back to Chicago later this year, you might have a very very regular member to meet up with. I thought you lived in in Tennessee or something.

I'm in Sandwich, Illinois, three blocks due east of the fairgrounds on Center St. But if you're moving back to Chicago, I'm moving to Tennessee.  Grin

Remember, we're both from Indiana, me from Jasper County.

The drummer in my band is from Knoxville, maybe I got confused. I wonder how many others in Chicago there are using Bitcoin. I am seriously considering attending a performing arts college there but have so much disdain for the midwest, there'd have to be something much much more for me there.

Have fun explaining this to your mom when MtGox gets "hacked" and her passport and personal information are all over the internet.

If you're having trouble with Bitcoin's Paypal, try Bitstamp.net
1839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: February 13, 2013, 09:11:15 PM
Hi guys. I have been interested in Namecoin for quite some time, but I'm not sure of exactly who are the relative representatives (assuming Coblee would be for Litecoin, Gavin would be for Bitcoin, etc).

Who would I contact about the actual domain namecoin.info for example or a major security flaw or anything like that?
