1841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers stole $3.8 billion from crypto investors (mainly through Defi) in 2022 on: February 01, 2023, 08:44:55 PM
Reason number 1007 why I don't want anything to do with altcoins or defi nonsense. They are a hackers wet dream.
Tens of millions of staked assets were also lost or hacked from Blockfi, Celsius, etc.

Seems to me ethereum staking (through which you have no self-custody) would be the next big juicy target for hackers.
Which is why proof of stake is horribly risky and unsecure imo.

Quote
Hackers stole $3.8 billion from crypto investors in 2022, a 13% increase from 2021 and marking a new all time high for annual theft of digital coins.

This rise in crypto hacks is just the latest indicator to underscore how security within the digital asset market, especially Decentralized Finance (DeFi), remains a major obstacle for the industry.

Agreed.  Staking on these shaky platforms for high yield is too good to continually pay off.  There is no way I'd stick my money in most of these things either.  Greed will catch up to everyone and the amount of crypto that is scammed or stolen will continue because greedy actions breeds dumb decisions.  Buy, hodl, go outside 😀
1842  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 01, 2023, 08:38:34 PM
Probably, that was a call from coach Thibodeau because he wanted Randle to take the shot to see if how well he is in handling the pressure, you know just to see if he had some changes while they are still playing in regular games as it's better to know first who are the players that will be reliable enough when situations got tough because I reckon not all the time Brunson will be with the team and healthy.

I don't think there were deeper meanings about that last ball. Randle couldn't use the clock good and couldn't find an opportunity to make a good shot. I'd go with Brunson all day. After Brunson, I liked Hartenstein's performance most. His offensive rebounds get too many second chances for Knicks but they couldn't use them well.
Lakers were better in overtime though. LeBron made another triple double without any effort. Only 89 points left to break the record. With his 30 ppg lately, we'll see the record breaking moment in 3 to 4 matches.

Julius gets a lot of the last minute looks on the team.  No way hartenstein gets the ball there.  He is really a backup center (Mitchell Robinson is hurt).  Backup journeymen center is not getting the last look in that game.  Lakers knew where it was going which was the issue.  Knicks suck in late game situations.
1843  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: February 01, 2023, 08:34:49 PM
Bunch of good games on tonight.  I'm liking 2 home favorites and 1 home dog and one away dog.

Suns -1.5 think they can take this one down
Jazz -3 at home, I'm warming up to this jazz team.  Didn't like betting them early on.
Rockets at home +6.5, think they back door cover but still lose.
And last gimme Nets-9 at Boston.  Kyrie is playing good think they can keep it close in this one as long as kyrie cooks.
1844  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your take on this crypto gambling use case idea? on: February 01, 2023, 08:32:31 PM
Do you think it makes sense if a crypto gambling platform only accepts it's own token for gambling and gambling on it's platform? If the games they offer are one-of-a-kind, new, and addictive wouldn't this make the gambling token very valuable? I am asking on behalf of a friend who wants to build his own crypto gambling project on the blockchain. Will this work? Will this fail? What's your take on this?

There have been some toke s to have already done this.  One that comes to mind is wagr.  The problem you really have is people on boarding onto a casino that is just built.  Second would be access to those tokens.  People don't like to have to use sub par exchanges to get the token.  So ypu alhave two on boarding issues.  And a unique game I don't think would work, most new ways to bet are already around don't know unless we knew of what type of game you are talking about.

Well today is a new low for the pro bowl.  Tyler Huntly is going to the pro bowl for the afc as one of the quartbacks.  Yep you guessed it.  Flame throwing Huntly who threw for 2 tds and 3 ints...ALL YEAR is going lol.  Why are we even doing this at this point.  It's like some sort of pro-am event with not even the best guys in the NFL.  Pitiful...

1847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Excessive greed is detrimental to investment on: January 30, 2023, 10:46:00 PM
Ypu are right in the fact that greed will always steer you in the wrong direction.  You need to have some level of greed to be able to take advantage of good markets but not enough where you are endlessly throwing your money into completely awful positions in hopes of some sort of "pump".
1848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: beginner in Crypto on: January 30, 2023, 10:43:19 PM
As a beginner in Crypto with a limited budget would you recommend purchasing the lower priced NFT's?

If ypu are a beginner than I say to stay clear of nfts all together.  Start off by slowly buying some bitcoin and possibly some other bigger altcoins until you get your feet wet.  Whatever you do don't listen to groups trying to pump their bags of low end altcoins.  They are looking for people to dump on you.

I need to frame that screenshot of McCaffrey with the QB play-call wristband on the sidelines.  Grin

For the sake of watching good football let's hope Mahomes' ankle is okay, back to back bad conference championship games will be too much considering how good these were last year...

Too funny.  Feel bad for San Fran on this one but it is what it is.  That afc conference game was awesome down to the end even though it had a flavor of the nfl/refs wanting kc to win this one.  I imagine this isn't the last afc conference championship between these 2.
1850  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 30, 2023, 10:39:06 PM
The problem with refs making a mistake like that is the fact that nothing really changes. I have been watching NBA for over 20 years and seen them make a lot of mistakes, either in important situations or even in not so important situations, the time Tim Duncan got ejected for laughing is still in my mind, there was something done about that eventually though.

However, the thing about the current situation is that, if you do not fine the refs and suspend them for a long period of time for making such a game deciding mistake, then what is stopping them from doing it again? Or another one doing it? That is why refs needs to be held accountable a lot more, and we need a lot more refs to replace them if they make a mistake.

No way that will ever happen.  They barely make enough money now.  If they male bad calls they get fined from the talent pool of refs will go significantly down.  These people don't live luxurious lifestyles.  It's not done in any major sport.  Only thing you can do is rank them and prioritize giving the playoff games to the good refs and reward them for making it.  So instead of penalizing bad refs, incentive good ones.
1851  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 30, 2023, 10:36:14 PM
I got 4 games in tonight some home some away.

First gimme the Lakers away +8.5.  No way they aren't fired up for this game after the Boston game went down the way it did.  Throwing a ML bet on them too.

Timberwolves home +1 against Sacramento.  I like how they have been playing this month.

76ers -9 at home against Orlando.  76ers are rolling and embid will be tough to stop in this one.

And last gimme golden state -5 on the road.  I think they got their groove back watch gs start to make a push for the front end of the western conference.
1852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Shiba inu get to $1 on: January 29, 2023, 10:58:36 PM
Can shiba inu ever get to $1 in the next bull run or more years to come??,  though nothing is impossible, but i don't think it can get there,
And is the project still good to invest in?

No.  You simply need to read about market cap.  For shib to get to $1 each it would end up putting the market cap in the trillions at the cost of all the money in the world.  Simply put it IS VERY impossible for shib to get to $1. Don't equate doge and shib together they have very different supply numbers which controls the price ceiling.
1853  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: January 29, 2023, 10:56:34 PM
what happened to purdy??

He got hit in his throwing elbow, and is out for now.  He's currently standing on the sideline with his helmet on, I'm sure he wants to come back in.  The Eagles just scored again...   We're giving this game away with penalties and stupid officiating.  The Eagles already stole one touchdown.  That 4th down pass on the opening drive should have been revied in the booth, and should have been a turn-over-on-downs.

Rough game for the 49ers.  Watched the second half and they didn't do themselves any favors.  Another tough one was the running into the kicker down 21-7 which turned into a td for the eagles and essentially sealed this one up.  As a giants fan I hate to say this but it's going to take a monster game from either the Chiefs or Bengals.  4 rushing tds vs the best rushing defense in the 49ers.  I'd like to see the Bengals and eagles match up here for the SB.
1854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will crypto banks replace traditional banks soon on: January 29, 2023, 09:28:03 PM
I'd like to think for the sanity of crypto a big no.  The whole point behind the crypto experiment is to be your own bank and not rely on greedy 3rd party institutions like we have in traditional banking.  I mean if ypu are just going to use a bank for your crypto what's the difference between fiat and crypto???
1855  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: January 29, 2023, 09:25:38 PM
Here we go! I put some bitcoin down on the Niners (I keep wanting to say San Fran but now I can’t, thanks @direwolf lol). I think the Eagles are the better team but the Niners were at +3 and I just have some weird feeling they’ll pull off the upset.

The Bengals this week went from +1 to -1 to +1 to +1.5 to + 2  lol…I got them at +1 and + 2. Feeling Joe Cool and that team big time. But since I am I’m sure that means I’ll lose my bet lol. Placed the largest bet I ever have this game.

Should be a fun day !!

Good luck chi I have the same bets.  Haven't been able to watch the first half of the eagles game yet been out and about what happened to purdy?? Why did Josh johnsonco.e in?  With that being said has any team ever made it to the superbowl with theor 3rd string qb lol.  Hoping Josh can come through in the second half.  Gonna a need the 9ers d to step up and get a to or 2.
1856  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 29, 2023, 07:48:53 PM
The Lakers would've won that game. Referees did mess it up again.
- A late whistle at the final seconds of the 4th quarter. Shot counted plus a free throw to tie the game.
- A no-call on the drive by James where in fact, there is a foul because the hand has been hit while he shot the ball.
I'm a bit upset with that calls that I didn't watch the overtime already. The Lakers would've won that game if the referees called it right.

Anyway, forget that sh*t and I'll be focusing on the scoring record. In his 5 games, James averaged 33.4 PPG so if we will just base on that number, he might broke the record in 3-4 games so most probably he will break it against the Pacers or the Pelicans or even the Thunder if he will score lower.
Yeah, It seems that the referee has a hand on the Boston win here. The NBA should review the officiating here because clearly, they had said that they don't want the referee involved, but that foul on Bev and the non call on Lebron's drive could have given the Lakers the win but the referee messed it up big time.

I'm no Laker fan but this has to be look at as I have said.

Lakers in their last couple of games has been in the short end of the bad call, just saying.
If it was a game where it matter for them, I would be upset too. I would always love to see Lakers in playoffs, they are royalty in NBA so seeing them is always good. But they are 13th in the west right now, there is no way they are going to playoffs, not even play-in tournament to be fair, they are going to lose and they will have to accept that and move on.

They could have won this game, and it wouldn't have mattered for the end of the season, they really need like a big big win streak if they want to be in playoffs and I do not see that happening. Good for Lebron though, dude is about the be the person with the most points, that's not an easy feat, that's actually quite a big achievement considering he is the type of guy that passes a lot too.

They just got AD back and they are a couple games out of the playin what are you talking about?  I'm not pro Lakers but to say there is no way they would even make the playing is just straight wrong.  It's games like this when you win that propel your team, or on the flip side side track you.  Every game is important when playoff seedings are games apart at the end of the year.  This game counts just as much as a game at the end of the year.

To be honest they are just 3 games out of 5th place in the west that's how close every team is right now in the west.
1857  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 29, 2023, 04:38:09 AM
I am %100 sure that Bronny will be drafted even if only for his fathers name. Dude doesn't need to play all that much, there were a million antentekoumpos in the league just because Giannis was in the league, which means that they wanted to get his brothers in order to maybe have a chance to get him too, but that did not work. I am sure Bronny will be anticipated, and Lebron "may" go to the team that drafts him, just these two ideas would be better than most second round picks. Like seriously, whats a 55th pick guy ever does? Its very rare you find a gem there, hence its better to get Bronny for a hopes of one more year from Lebron and make a killing with profits thanks to jersey sales. I am sure it will happen, just don't know which team.

Yup! the NBA could surely get Bronny James or even his younger brother Bryce Maximus James but I really wish Bronny James will get by the Los Angeles Lakers if he is not drafted by the Lakers maybe be traded to them instead if they can not get him, and yes because Lebron James is doing great for the Lakers now they could do that for him, for me, Lebron James is a big asset for the Lakers that name alone could rack up money for them and if the Lakers would not get Bronny Lebron James would surely go into another team that has Bronny for sure,

LeBron will stay with the Lakers next season because he has a player option for the 24/25 season, not the 23/24 season. Anyway, maybe the Lakers' management will really want to get Bronny in order to keep LeBron, but the problem is that the Lakers only have a second-round draft pick in which Bronny might be selected. So it's still hard to predict whether LeBron will retire in a Lakers uniform or not.

I really think that is not a slim chance for them to get Bronny James and for the 1st pick to be Bronny James, I really think that Lebron James for them is a big cash cow get for their corporation, there are a lot of advertisers that want Lebron James and sponsors that are backing the name Lebron James and right now Lebron James is currently playing like his prime years, considering his games he is pretty much doing great right now, so I really think the Lakers will consider Bronny James as a great asset aswell,

Lakers suck right now and will be a lottery pick possibly a high pick next year when bronny is available.  They aren't going to blow a high pick on bronny just to keep lebron who will be 40 years old on the team.  That would set the team back years.  Not to mention they don't have many assets other than their own draft picks moving forward.  No way bronny goes in the lottery lol.
1858  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 29, 2023, 04:34:36 AM
Not going to lie tonight hurt.  Had the Lakers money line here and withthe game tied refs missed probably the worst missed call of the year.  Bron going in for a layup got hammered on the forearm by Tatum and no call.  In ot took the loss.  Brutal one but that's basketball right
