1861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SABR monitors multiple blockchains to identify and locate criminal activity on: August 16, 2015, 10:21:13 PM
Strange startup. The way I understand it, they intend to make a profitable business selling their findings to the police? I wonder what are the "proprietary sources" they're talking about on their website, but I'm afraid that if it's really good, the FBI will request a free and permanent backdoor to access it at will.

As a starting point, this may help them get some grants.
In the future, I think they will ask for some bounty money - if somebody robbed your bitcoins, these guys may be willing to help you for a small fee.

Possible, but they need first to prove how good they are. I suggest they explain what happened at MtGox, everybody would talk about it, and they would get instant fame. Can they do it? There's nothing to back up their claims so far.
1862  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Best" hotel club lounges on: August 16, 2015, 10:15:25 PM
The best hotels are in Dubai for sure. I have absolutely no doubt about that. Most of New York is shitty compared to Dubai, where everything's new and shiny. The question though, is what it will become when the oil money dries up. Baku should be good too, I've never been there, but I know how oil money can make miracles.
1863  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do I go about purchasing a large amount of bitcoins on: August 16, 2015, 10:12:07 PM
I like it when a newbie says he wants to buy $500k worth of BTC. Really smart guy. A guy with balls obviously. I just wonder why he hasn't came back to tell us what he thinks of all the suggestions given above.
1864  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin makes revolution on money transfer market ? on: August 16, 2015, 10:09:40 PM
It depends what you mean by money transfer. If some guy in Asia wants to send BTC to a guy in Europe, there's no doubt it's easier and faster than sending $. Now, if the transfer starts with an Asian currency and must end up with Euros, conversion to BTC then to Euros will cost you more than with banks sending hard currency.
1865  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ABC News reports that US hostage Kayla Mueller was raped by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on: August 15, 2015, 11:19:03 PM
I can only guess that when a woman is raped, the ID of the rapist doesn't matter much, but this case shows that the horror stories we hear from Syria come not only from the ground soldiers, but also from their leader. Meaning that IS citizens are a homogeneous group, but there was little doubt about that. They're all pigs.
1866  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Cheapest legal way of moving 50k euros from China to france on: August 15, 2015, 11:10:35 PM
Is that money legit? If it is, it's very easy to open an account at HSBC in Hong Kong, and move the money to another HSBC account in Europe. It would probably cost you ten times more if you do it via BTC. that, unless recipient accepts BTC, but I suppose you've got Yuans and the recipient wants Euros.

Besides, I would advise against sending any substantial sum to France. This is a communist country, and all cash movements above €1,000 are to be reported to the financial authorities.
1867  Economy / Economics / Re: Devaluation of Chinese Yuan on: August 15, 2015, 12:15:12 AM
It's a double-edged sword. The more China devalues its currency, the better for its economy, and the worse for the other countries. Most people only sees the Chinese exports, but many European companies are selling luxury products in China. Expensive German cars or French handbags. All those products' prices gained 5% this single week.
1868  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Get (pledge) out of New York! on: August 15, 2015, 12:04:02 AM
How about doing it the other way? How about a pledge to do as much business as possible with NY residents without revealing anything about it to anyone? Does anyone truly believe this little piece of regulation will change anything? It's totally unenforceable. BTC will keep on going, just like the thousands of homeless people who wander NY.
How about a Black List of companies that are sucking up to the NY regulatory guidelines?

Not a bad idea. It would need regular updates though, but I guess we could start it here. Has any company got that licence yet?
1869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you didn't get paid for your signature, would you still care about Bitcoin? on: August 14, 2015, 11:49:56 PM
When I see so many people writing stupid and useless posts, I wonder if it hasn't gone too far. I'm making small change from a signature campaign right now, but if the webmaster of this board would ban the practice, I would understand him. I'd like to keep the ability to have a link to my signature, though.

1871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Let's create the first coin for immigrants on: August 14, 2015, 11:38:36 PM
I wanted to shock with my previous post, more seriously now, I don't think a new coin dedicated to immigrants would be a nice thing. When you're an immigrant, money's tight and you look for a real income, with hard currency, not some new and unproven electronic coin. Sorry to point it out, but when you arrive in a new country, you rarely get a good Internet connection, you can't use a smartphone because that requires a bank account to pay a subscription by direct debit, so all you want is cash.

Hard times. I'm glad they're over for me.
1872  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you didn't get paid for your signature, would you still care about Bitcoin? on: August 13, 2015, 08:49:01 PM
Of course. I already had an activity of around 400 when I first joined a signature campaign. But I can't deny it has changed a bit the way I'm using this board. Without the sig, I was only visiting once or twice a week. Now that I've got it, I'm here nearly everyday.
1873  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump's blunt talk starting to see some push back! on: August 13, 2015, 08:43:59 PM
Yes, this guy's just gross. He talks more like a sergeant than a general. You need some skills in diplomacy to be president, and I'm afraid he lacks them. The US is doomed if the choice is between him and Hilary.
1874  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Congresswoman claims climate change will turn women into prostitutes on: August 13, 2015, 08:41:30 PM
I have a friend who owns a food store. He never had a female customer proposing sex to pay for apples and tomatoes so far, but I'm sure he would enjoy it. So when's that climate change thing happening? Can't wait!

1876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you use Bitcoin and access Bitcointalk freely without using a VPN? on: August 13, 2015, 08:27:55 PM
I've been accessing this board and blockchain.info from most European countries. I was free to surf, but that didn't mean nobody was watching me, and following my moves via a spy in a router somewhere.

Note that it's possible to access blockchain.info via TOR.

1877  Economy / Economics / Re: Devaluation of Chinese Yuan on: August 11, 2015, 11:26:17 PM
Obvious question is who's next?
Russian ruble has lost more than half of its value in the past year, the € has lost about 10% against the $ and the £, now the yuan. I believe the US will reevaluate its monetary policy before the end of the year, to lower its currency.
1878  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans Flocking to China on: August 11, 2015, 11:18:24 PM
Do you have a link to back up your claim of 600,000 Americans living in China? That sounds a bit high. I would also like to know how many of them are Caucasian. I know from experience that when you're a white guy in China, you may speak some Chinese (I don't), but everybody will see you as a foreigner.

I dont think there is a valid article or source of metric unless its like from a reputable third party source site like baidu in china to show the op`s #`s.

But, its pretty crazy that the land of opportunity is now reverse where I see more of my friends wanting to go china to start factories since wages are so cheap.

And the difference is that most of my friends are chinese americans.

So why do you believe this number, if there's no hard data to back it up? There's plenty of bureaucracy in China. The government knows exactly how many foreigners have work visas, and most Americans abroad are registered at the local embassy, so the US knows it as well.

Regarding your friends who want to start factories, there's no need for this. There are plenty of existing factories already, better buy their products and letting them handle all the worries of manufacturing.
1879  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Yvette Cooper calls for UN intervention over escalating Calais migrant crisis on: August 11, 2015, 11:06:39 PM
I went to Calais last April to see "the problem" with my own eyes, and it's very true it's getting worse and worse. The French police are arresting people trying to get to the UK only to set them free a few hours later, so it's useless. French or English, nobody wants to be seen as the bad guys who will send those poor people home, but they don't want to accept them at the same time, so things are only going worse.

Shops have closed in Calais. The presence of hundreds of migrants in every street is bad for business. There used to be tourists in Calais, not anymore. The UN? Gosh, I thought the UN was only active in third world countries.
1880  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Let's create the first coin for immigrants on: August 11, 2015, 10:58:53 PM
Count me in! I'm proud to be the first in line!
I left the country of my birth 20 years ago, so you can send me your immigrant coin. Then, I can give you the names of some friends, there's a lot of us, you know.

By the way, if your new coin isn't ready yet, I can also accept BTC for a while. You'll find my address in my profile.
