You all don't realize how powerful the Dragon Ball franchise is. They have been milking the "It's is over 9000!" thing for all it's worth. They had to rush to crash the market when it jumped to almost $20k pushing the price back down so they could repeatedly have the price go over 9000.

Some theorize that this is the sole purpose of the creation of Bitcoin.

For Earth Day I lit a candle in front of my Karl Marx statue and repeated the planks of the communist manifesto.

Community, Equality, Tyranny my fellow citizens.

0 confirmation transactions already exist...it's been a thing since Bitcoin existed

 Yes. I understand that.

the thing is, do you trust the transaction if it's not confirmed

That's the issue I have. No. I don't EVER trust 0 confirmations. That's not how its supposed to work in Bitcorn.

I have had people trust 0 confirmation transactions from me. But for exterior reasons not related to the currency.

Such as buying a coffee and drinking it there at the small cafe where I chatted a bit with the owner already. Or a hamburger place.

Though I have had people trust larger transactions from me...but those were for localbitcoins after we had established a relationship and trust. With the full knowledge that if I screwed them over they could give me bad feedback and make further selling of bitcoins by me very difficult.

The growth of Bitcoin ATM's keeps increasing... currently at an average of 8 new ATMs installed DAILY.

https://coinatmradar.com/charts/#growth

I always keep an eye on this because I consider ATM's are one of the key factors/signals of Bitcoin real adoption and usage (as a storage of value, at least).

Some areas like Las Vegas with 65 ATM's over a relatively small area are reaching some pretty good density already.

Unfortunately the fees, most being around 9/10%, are a complete rip off, but there is a selected few with more "reasonable" fees like the one at the D (which I think was the fiist ATM in las vegas) at 6.9% for selling or the one at the "Heart Attack Grill" with an even better sell fee of "just" 3.5%.

Btw, anyone have a graph of how regular bank ATM's historically grew? Would be a nice comparison...

10% beats the 20% currency exchange rate in French Polynesia.

I want to buy a car but I refuse to lose 20% of value plus wire fees to do it. I rely on small trades here and there for spending money but I'm still trying to work out a way to get about $2-6k into CFP.

I will likely just buy a scooter when I get back. I considered trading baht to CFP here in Thailand but no exchange deals with such an obscure currency.

Random Thought: 0-conf trying to become a thing is some of the most retarded shit I've ever heard of in cryptospace.

0 confirmation transactions already exist...it's been a thing since Bitcoin existed, I pay

the thing is, do you trust the transaction if it's not confirmed

Maybe they will push for some whitelist of trusted people or something stupid like that.

I was sitting at the pool here in Pattaya and some thai girl was taking off her t-shirt that said

Hold
On for
Dear
Life

on the back. Then she hung out with her foreign boyfriend in the pool. I figured he was the rich bitcoin guy that got his hot young thai girl (with fake titties and all).

As I was leaving I commented "Awesome t-shirt man". They looked at me like I was crazy.

Seasteading: where we're going we don't need roads

*Yes I know you libertarians detest state coercision in any form, including being made to vote, speed limits and fire codes.  Tough shit.

no, not tough shit

the sheriff knows goddamn good and well where not to go around here

you statists don't wield all the power you think you do

You are too highly educated and well spoken to be a sovereign citizen with no license plates.

A single vote by 350,000,000 people with 250 bytes of data per vote would use over 87.5GB on the blockchain. That's just in a really simple case but usually a ballot has like 50 things on it.
and usually 60-70% don't vote.  If voting could change things, it would be illegal.

The Australians make it illegal not to vote. You get fined if you don’t show.

They also vote on the weekend and employers are fined if they don’t allow employees a break to go vote.

Needless to say voter turnout is always above 90%.

*Yes I know you libertarians detest state coercision in any form, including being made to vote, speed limits and fire codes.  Tough shit.

Actually, we would like the roads to be private and the owner free to set whatever speed limit he wants, cause, you know, it's his property to do with as he pleases.

I’m buying the road in front of your house and the back alley. You have to pay me $100k per year in a license fee to leave your driveway.   If you can’t afford it, I will buy your house from you for $1.   If you or the fire department step onto my road without paying my license fee, I will shoot you for trespassing on my land.

Anyone can waste their money to be a dick in the short term. Plenty of cases of people throwing their money away on stupid things. The free market makes it so that those stupid ideas die without a constant stream of money.

It looks like things will get ugly Bitcoin is currently on its 2 hoursly chart it is forming a Head and Shoulders and we are currently completing the right shoulder. After several failed attempt to go back up above 8,500$ or more we might be going back down below 7,000$ if BTC will not break this formation we need to think of shorting is now until it is up above 8,000$. Volume is also decreasing which is an indicator that the market is still bearish on Bitcoin. MACD also formed a bearish divergence which signifies a momentum going down.

I didn't go to no Harvard or anything so I don't know about all of them fancy words.

But all I know is the bitcoin price is up 1% for the day.

As for "we need to think of shorting"...I can only speak for myself and I will be hodling.

Good mention from IMF head and a praise to Sharia Law possible catalyst to recent price action? Or the tax day theory?

7900 seems like pretty strong support imo

Interesting thing about the IMF's recent support of blockchain is that the head of the IMF is advised by a french libertarian, Gaspard Koenig. Gaspard just recently joined Blue Frontiers as an adviser and has been a big supporter of seasteading since he first heard about it.

Great to know, thanks! That leaves me with at least two viable countries to stay in with my own property and at least two more (of interest) in which I can at the very least rent without any hassle. Going to have to get off my lazy ass and hit up some lawyer that specializes in international tax policies sometime.

I have three cats, so I'm stuck here. Moving pets around the world is too complicated.

I can´t see, why moving three cats, once it´s done, could hinder me.

Ya, I have 2 dogs. I was able to get them to Germany but fortunately I have a nice mother who would rather I be able to travel than worry about moving my dogs so she watches them. I would love to bring them with me but they would definitely get the way of my mobility.

Pattaya for beach life ?
You got to be kidding me ! Where do you come from ? Never mind, just move. From here on, you can´t go wrong  Smiley

Well..Koh Lan to be more specific.

My hope, however, is that most of the governance will be blockchain based. As much as possible over time.
I mentioned the admins having the right to a choice a few posts back. Would PoS in the community coin be a viable voting metric at least for some matters? Has any thought gone into it yet? Interesting stuff indeed.

Well, it would depend upon the vote. And the governance model created by the platform.

My thought is that there will likely be one person one vote types of models as well as PoS votes.

My BitPools idea was that people would vote on a project with their money, while receiving an equal benefit to their contribution.

For a one person one vote approach we will definitely be doing an identity token or an address identified by a single person. This will be used for other things in the community like visas and passports.

The first vote I suggested was an opinion type approach where we try to decide what location in French Polynesia to do the pilot project. I think a PoS approach would show where the money wants it to happen. And that would be an easier voting system. A one person one vote method would require people showing up to register, which would be more for when people are actually living on the seastead.
1897  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Would you live on a seastead? on: April 17, 2018, 02:52:38 AM
That's very good and I also want to live there, I'm sure there must be many enthusiasts from various countries, how much to spend to stay there.

I think eventually it will be affordable. You at least need low income workers for many things so you would be required to have low costing housing.

Come to Thailand. It won´t be worse than this. If you avoid the girls, you´re home free !
And for half the money !
And you can drive around on a Moped, the whole year. That´s what i´m doing.
I´m blessed. No Joke !

Guys, i really can´t see, why you should end your life in such negative places, pack your things, even your family, and move !

I'm actually heading to Thailand tomorrow to stay for about 2 months. Will be mostly in the Bangkok area.

Bangkok is not my cup of tea, i´m more of a beach guy: My girlfriend says, look at your belly. Stay safe !

I have been there many times. My gf lives there. I'm going to help work out her visa to come to Tahiti.

Will be in Pattaya this week though for a bit of beach life (same thing as here but I guess different colored sand).

Soooo... noone has found the perfect country to spend the millions yet, no?

Elwar is still building it.

Here's some thoughtful entertainment on building a community.
Check out "Wild, wild country" aired on netflix.

It's the conspiratorial saga of Rajneeshpuram (Osho) community as it attempted self governance in the 80's in outback Oregon.

Surprisingly its led me to consider the importance of governance.

I see seasteads more as blank slates than no governance whatsoever.

Sure, right off of the production line the platform has zero government. As soon as someone takes ownership of the platform and decides who else can come onto the platform, governance begins.

My hope, however, is that most of the governance will be blockchain based. As much as possible over time.

Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
Unite humanity with a living new language.
Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
Balance personal rights with social duties.
Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.

I think it's clear... but I am curious how decentralization feats in...

Do you think such a governance model would be able to compete with others? Would people actually voluntarily live on a seastead with that goal or would they float their home away somewhere else?

they are right now using multispectral warfare to achieve this goal. it's not a choice, they see us as cancer and that's why they allow themselves to rape us.

Would such a thing be possible with decentralized governance? If there are 1000 new governments that consist of people that will float away if their government gets out of line, would some common outside model outside of the desire of the population be able to take hold?
