1981  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Elizabeth "The Snake" Warren vs Bernie "Go back to the kitchen" Sanders on: January 18, 2020, 08:25:00 PM
What she did was absolutely disgusting and it seems that I am not the only one who's disgusted by what she did in a bid to down Bernie Sanders because she started to go down in the polls.Am thinking she did it so that in the end Joe Biden will be the one who gets the nomination for the Democratic Party.

Warren should be kicked out for always wearing those ridiculous sweaters.

So the whole 24 arsonists....news or not news?

Do you have a point to make?

There are some who believe that the Australian and Californian fires were man made, and nothing to do with climate change. ...
There have been 24 people arrested and charged with setting fires in Australia (since this started), but do you hear about that in the news?

No. You hear the propaganda line yet once more.

That link you posted...that's 'the news'...

Barely. I just got back from a month in AU, and fires is not hardly in the news there at all.

FYI, there have historically always been fire issues at times in AU.
I don't exactly go and buy a newspaper every day. But yes, that's news down there.

So the whole 24 arsonists....news or not news?
1984  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Virginia Governor Declares states of emergency because of GUNS RIGHTS RALLY on: January 18, 2020, 03:33:44 AM
owning a single shot gun for self defense is one thing
but owning a fully autimatic rifle that can fire 30 shots in a couple seconds is another
...

A single shot firearm is totally inadequate for self defense. However, it is adequate for OFFENSE. For example, to rob a storekeeper or a bank only takes a single shot firearm.

A two-shot 12 gang shotgun, used by a person with training, is an effective defense weapon.

Fully automatic weapons are not commonly owned by individuals. For self defense the primary question is what weapon could be grabbed when it was needed. The larger, heavier rifles are less desirable for that. AR15 platform are excellent lightweight, compact self defense rifles.
1985  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Did we actually really land on moon? on: January 18, 2020, 03:01:52 AM
My honest opinion on this would probably be NO. If humans had landed long back with those technologies then we would have a colony by now on Moon. World wanted to see who won the space race and US grabbed that opportunity by creating this.

Why? Why would we have a colony by now? Do you think that after going to the moon, each trip afterwards would be free?

I do not think that after going to the moon every subsequent trip will be free because once the US creates this opportunity to go to the moon, then everyone can go. Also on the moon the Blue Armstrongs went before and they built many colonies.

Ok, everyone can go, but whose going to pay for it? And what would be the point, welfare? Everyone can go to the moon. You're taking tv shows made for entertainment too seriously, and thus think we should have colonies just because. There are far bigger issues in the world that would need to be taken care of.
I think cows, chickens and pigs should be allowed to go to the moon, because otherwise, how are these colonies going to get great food? Wouldn't you want a 16 oz (500 gram) prime ribeye after a hard week in the lunar mines? And don't forget the rights of vegetables and fruits. They have rights too, and the products of fruits and vegetables are things like beer, wine, and whiskey.

Well, maybe not beer. I suppose carbonation wouldn't work too well with the lowered pressure levels in the vessels these people would live in.
1986  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Greta Thunberg is the time's person of the year 2019 on: January 17, 2020, 12:47:52 PM
Swedish teen who started by protesting in from of the Swedish parliament for action against climate change now is the major attraction for media around the world. Time like every year selects one of the most influencing person in the year as Time's person of the year.

Seeing this post I wonder where has she vanished now. I guess she was a deserving candidate to be nominated by times magazine as person of the year. She was very viral and effective with her speeches, especially "How dare you!". At a very young age , she was able to reach to UN and brought attention to very important topic of climate change. I did notice a shift in attitude of nations , organizations and even individual and they saw sustainability and recycling as important and duty.
Leonardo DiCaprio has been campaigning and has brought awareness to Climate Change for a very long time before this girl came out and started criticizing leaders about them doing nothing with regards to Climate Change. Apart from her protests I didn't see her do anything to help like planting trees which is proven to reduce carbon emissions.

Since a 16 year old worked so well, what do you say we try a 12 year old scolding the UN next? Or we could go straight to the shrieking babies?
1987  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: January 17, 2020, 12:43:47 PM

This guy was an Iowa field organizer.

He was making ~$150 a day to organize volunteers to go knock on doors in Iowa.  Basically show up in the morning and give each volunteer a route (that someone else figured out).  Volunteers come and go, so paying someone to do the basic management is more efficient.  (They would be trained by someone higher up)

He was probably interviewed and hired by someone 4-5 levels below the actual campaign manager (Faiz Shakir).

Haters gonna hate. I'm glad that you and others are keeping them in the lower levels of the organizations. Later, perhaps, haters and their hate will be more socially accepted and more ... promotable.

For now, though, you think the minions have it under control?
1988  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is planting trees actually good for the planet? on: January 16, 2020, 10:50:17 PM
The article makes sense, I think we should wait a few years or so until the science and mathematics becomes more advance before planting a shit load of trees in a desperate attempt to resolve a green problem that we've haven't quite gotten to the root of yet (no pun intended). The technology is advancing, I know we need to at least prepare a temporary solution to at least alleviate the issue, while we spend the time advancing our sciences to a point that we can actually directly fix the problem.

Just my two cents!  Undecided
We don't need a sht load of trees, we just need to plant trees. That's it. Even a single tree per person alive is already quite a lot imo. Just like how having none or little is bad, having too many may also be bad for the ecosystem. Also, the tech advancement you're saying is the cause for problems that are arising in the ecosystem, and the tree plantings are the ones that are solving it lmao. If it stopped, I'd say that any type of fix done after that period of time would need hundreds of years before it could take into effect. We can plant trees while finding for a direct fix imo, no need to stop doing such because we don't know it's effects, as long as we regulate it, I'd say all is fine.

Has anyone ever told you that trees sort of plant themselves? It's pretty cool how it works, too. Humans may plant the wrong ones, but nature sees to it that the right ones live in every single spot.

Wait a minute. You mean we might or might not have some huge global warming problem and we don't even know if planting trees is good?

Government and political action is geared to climate change, but are they working on the wrong trend, and making things worse for us. We are entering a period of global cooling, but all the publicity is about global warming....

This was once a hot subject, but interest has cooled.

The original thread was already "mysteriously" deleted by a mod.

That's unfortunate given that Pussygate is just the gift that keeps on giving...

I think it's totally fair to say that this is part of the Trump - Pussygate Investigations. How about one of the most exciting characters in Pussygate? A guy who there was speculation would even run for Prez?

Michael Avenatti Arrested by Feds at California State Bar Hearing.

“The arrest occurred outside the disciplinary hearing in which the State Bar of California has accused the hard-charging, tough-talking attorney of using a doctored document to scam a client out of nearly $840,000, funneling money from a lawsuit settlement fund to his own personal use. . . . Best known for his public feud with President Trump, Avenatti has criminal matters pending on both coasts.”

No they are not produced for killing.

Where did you get that idea?

1995  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What will happen when people realise that the world is cooling and not warming? on: January 15, 2020, 10:14:34 PM
What gets me is that if you question received wisdom about climate, then you are a climate change denier. We don't deny that climate is changing, we just don't agree about the direction and the causes.

The two are not mutually contradictory. There could be global warming due to CO2, and a Little Ice Age for different reasons happen at the same time.

Perhaps some of the devout believers in Global Warming didn't get the message that they are supposed to be "Climate Change propagandists?"
1996  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Localbitcoins stole my bitcoins just because I'm Iranian on: January 15, 2020, 10:11:30 PM
So lately localbitcoins started to ban Iranian users from trading bitcoins on their website.

In the beginning, they claimed that we will be able to withdraw our funds at any time, and recently they started their new verification process which requires accounts with more than 1000 € annual transactions to verify their ID and provide their address.

Even though my account annual transaction amount had never been more than 1500 €, they are asking me for Tier 2 verification which includes address verification that I already provided them. They are now claiming that my address verification which was a credit card statement is "not valid", And all of that was only supposed to prevent me from making trades on their platform, not to prevent me from withdrawing my Bitcoins.

Now when I tried to withdraw my 0.063 bitcoins which is worth more than 100M Rials, equal to around 10 months of a teacher's salary...

(A) have patience
(B) Repeat (A) over and over

Your btc have not been stolen. Not at this point.

I suggest you start by establishing some person at the company that can deal with you as an individual. That is most important, not to be a slave to the current functioning of a crude AI robot.

It would be a shame for the "Pussygate thread" to die.
1999  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: January 15, 2020, 04:35:58 PM
Officials at Glacier National Park (GNP) have begun quietly removing and altering signs and government literature which told visitors that the Park’s glaciers were all expected to disappear by either 2020 or 2030.

They dont need to remove them in Slovenia. Since glaciers are mainly gone. 50 years ago you could ski on them in Spring.
...

That is much better than if the entire land of Slovenia was covered with the ice.

Definitely. If that would happen we would need to adapt a lot and that would cost us a lot of money. No one want to spend money for adoption to changes. That is why there is plan to reduce carbon emissions so changes will be as little as possible.

I do not think people will mind spending money for bikinis.

Spending money for heavy Arctic coats, though...

It is not known for certain on whose side the truth is and whether there is any truth here at all.
We have as close to a universal consensus among scientists ....

Realistically, there is a 100% certainty of another Little Ice Age. There is a 100% certainty of a major ice age.

The only question is "When?"
