201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 30, 2016, 07:51:48 PM

Why? Anyone loaded the blockchain? Took me 2 days until it was finish with 250k internet.

250k? Huh

almost 20 years ago it was 56k with the screeching modem over a copper phone wire

With all the money you have surely you can do better than that

202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: September 30, 2016, 06:34:31 PM
The more I read about Zcash the more I think its totally overhyped.
what would make sense is a Zcash sidechain over Monero core.

If my memory serves maxwell mentioned Bytecoin, not Monero.  Tongue

Damm! Will probably get more trust spammed by the Monerologists.  Huh

Memory would have to serve you well as GM said that a long time ago, hence why he suggested the original implementation of cryptonote.  No one is going to use bytecoin for anything now.

Anyone here with mine XMR Radeon RX 480? What the miner used and rate of h/s achieved? Thank you.

You might have more luck on the mining thread.  There was some recent talk about the 480

204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Wolf's XMR/BCN/DSH CPUMiner - 2x speed compared to LucasJones' - NEW 06/20/2014 on: September 30, 2016, 03:54:25 PM

Thanks for the response..  not too long after I took that shot I started getting stratum errors....  shut it down for now, will play with it tonight.

edit: btw.  I have a phenom 6 core on that rig.. should run pretty good.  thxs again.

You can go to http://mine.moneroworld.com/#getting_started
and they have wolf's miner with a GUI that you can download.  "Monero Spelunker".  You just choose the # of threads you want and it defaults to the lowest diff port which you can change if you like.  Very easy.

This is a CPU mining thread, not GPU.

just tried the cpu miner.. pretty sure it is working, but I dont see the speed.. is there a display setting to show hash amount?

Code:
C:\install\xmr\cpuminer-multi-wolf-06-12-2014>minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://monerohash.com:3333 -u mywallet -p x
[2016-09-30 08:08:10] Using JSON-RPC 2.0

[2016-09-30 08:08:10] 5 miner threads started, using 'cryptonight' algorithm.
[2016-09-30 08:08:10] Pool set diff to 5000
[2016-09-30 08:08:10] Stratum detected new block
[2016-09-30 08:10:38] Pool set diff to 3401
[2016-09-30 08:10:38] Stratum detected new block
[2016-09-30 08:13:08] Pool set diff to 2252
[2016-09-30 08:13:08] Stratum detected new block
[2016-09-30 08:13:59] Stratum detected new block
[2016-09-30 08:15:28] Stratum detected new block
[2016-09-30 08:15:39] Pool set diff to 1491
[2016-09-30 08:15:39] Stratum detected new block

looks like you haven't had any shares accepted so you don't see the speed.  I see that you started at a diff of 5000 and the miner keeps reducing the diff because it's too high.  Eventually it will adjust but you should start with a port with a lower diff as it seems you have a slow CPU for Monero.  There are pools that have lower starting diffs and http://mine.moneroworld.com/ has a slowly adjusting diff which is good for slow miners as the diff doesn't jump up which can cause time outs when the diff adjusts up too quickly.  If your CPU does not have AES-NI it will be slow.  Also note that you need 2MB of cache for each thread you run.  I have an i5 with 6MB cache and it works better with 2 of the 4 cores instead of 3 because the cache is shared.  I had an old pentium that was getting ~33 H/s and at that rate with present conditions it would take close to 5 months to mine 1 Monero Tongue

BTW when shares are accepted it will look like this:
[2016-09-30 09:58:44] accepted: 11482/11482 (100.00%), 90.50 H/s at diff 2643 (yay!!!)

You should also see something like this before shares are accepted:
[2016-09-30 10:00:33] thread 1: 2671 hashes, 43.15 H/s
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 30, 2016, 10:28:46 AM
Price short term is likely to go down i think but if you plan to hold a long period of time you are still likely to make a profit(less than if you had bought lower). I did the mistake of buying to early i guess, the real bottom is probably much lower than this.

This weekend could well see a rise up.  If you have funds spare, set some buys in below current price to catch dips, but it will turn up quickly when it does, so if you are looking to buy anyway, don't wait too long!

Sentiment is low.  And as they say 'when there is blood on the streets - it's time to buy'

EDIT: I am far from qualified to offer investment advice and since I didn't sell as many as I should have on the way up, I am very obviously not that smart.

I will be away for a couple of days and I haven't had anything on exchanges for quite a while.  So if the world revolves around me then.........

BTW I'm dumber than you.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 30, 2016, 10:18:50 AM
Any news on the shiny official GUI? People want graphics not 80's style interface. And btw the monero forum is not working since 1 week.

All I know is that there are a few bugs to be squashed and a few GUI commits were merged yesterday.  I guess we are less than 2 weeks away™©

Last night I had a dream that I was using the CLI which greatly impressed the person who was with me  Cool
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 29, 2016, 12:36:50 AM
Anyone know what this means?
Appeared in daemon

ERROR  {2} {p1} 2016-09-28 18:02:55.163105 [abstract_tcp_server2.inl+515 ::do_se

hutting down connection

Also I've noticed lots of people have not updated to wolfram.

Never saw that one before, but yeah, auto-banning doesn't seem to be as aggressive or doing much, i have to manually do it. Sooo many nodes > 200 days "ahead"... Wasn't a fork supposed to boot those guys?  Thanks

All answers are AFAIK.

I believe that is an error message I used to get in an early 0.9 release and could be ignored as it was a problem with someone else's node and you were disconnecting from them because of it.  It was repetitive so I restarted my daemon.  Have not seen that in quite a while.

I asked about all the nodes that were hundreds of days ahead.  The are actually behind and hopefully syncing and it is our synced nodes that are ahead.  I hope I got that correct, computer grammar.  My daemon has had banned nodes.  Having many nodes on the network takes a little getting used to  Cool

low volume, falling price. Damn! XMR is killing me. I have invested all my BTC into XMR and already buried in a loss. Will it bounce back soon ? Or will it return to ts cage (0.004) ??

Oups, how could i miss to post that  Cheesy

GUI should be ready soon:

<fluffypony> Kermit_: do you mean the GUI wallet, or the next tagged release?
<Kermit_> Yes gui
<kintaji> fluffypony - Okay. Just to say there are some oddities with the current flag page. Can expand at a later time.
<fluffypony> Kermit_: not certain yet - I'll look at building beta binaries in the next week or so
<Kermit_> Thanks

https://getmonero.org/2016/09/11/overview-and-logs-for-the-dev-meeting-held-on-2016-09-11.html

That was from over 2 weeks ago. If you have been following things you'll know that fluffypony is not doing the beta binaries because there are still bugs.  Yes there is information all over the place so it's sometimes hard to keep track. Just yesterday there were some GUI commits.

I think one topic to speculate should be: will there ever be official GUI for XMR?

How should I troll?  Let me count the ways.

Everyday the time till the release of the GUI will be cut in half.
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 27, 2016, 03:32:32 PM
When do you think the resistance of 0.019 will be broken and Monero is ready to stabilize above 0.02 for preparing the rocket countdown to the Moon?

Obviously when the core/official GUI is released.  So that makes it either:

A) soon™
or
B) 2 weeks

6 pull requests merged today from 6 different contributors.  Nice to see many new people working on Monero Smiley
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero Support on: September 25, 2016, 08:33:53 PM
Ok again, very simple Smiley

I want: Send XMR from POL to my Wallet (monero-wallet-cli.exe) -standart monero console client.

POLO want a Payment-ID and Wallet ID.

I have: my Wallet ID

I need: the Payment ID

Where to find the payment ID, which command it need to enter in the console?

You do not need a payment ID to send to your wallet.  Polo has a field for payment ID but you don't need to fill it in.  You can leave it blank and they will still send your Monero.  They supply a payment ID field in case you want to send it to an exchange or business that requires a payment ID in order to identify your transaction from any other.  Since you are sending to yourself and you know the amount you don't need a payment ID to distinguish your transaction from any other.  Just leave the payment ID field blank and they will send it anyway.  They will send it even if it is being sent to a recipient that requires it.  In that case you have a problem but Polo has no idea if the recipient you are sending to requires a payment ID.  They will send it if you leave the field blank.  You don't need a payment ID to send Monero anywhere.

TLDR: request a withdrawal without a payment ID and Polo will still send it.

^^volumne has been ~3000 for a few days
volume on almost all coins on polo is lower than usual
that is recent usual
216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 25, 2016, 02:46:08 AM
I dont like the monero fees they are just to high.....

0.1 fees it should be more like 0.00085  since monero
is not at the price where it was now its 10 dollars per piece meaning that the fees are expensive...
and it needs to change

0.1 xmr fee is too heavy for ordinary people. 0.0001-0.001 is decent, current fee will resist xmr has mass adoption.

The current min fee is 0.01 and I usually pay ~0.03.  The min fee is being reduced to 0.002 in about 2 weeks which will make that 0.03 transaction 0.006 or about 6 cents which is what I pay for a btc transaction.  The size of a transaction is a bit larger than btc due to the private nature of the transactions so I don't see why you think you should pay less than btc.  A couple of posts before yours Anon136 tried to explain why some transactions incur larger fees than usual.
217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 23, 2016, 02:54:27 PM
Last week I bought at 150 with the intention of buying on the way down. My first buy on the way down was yesterday at 170.  I still can't get used to paying for bricks and receiving pebbles.  My subconscious feels we are going up from here.
218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 23, 2016, 02:30:42 PM
Why, are you trying to embarrass me?  Windows 10 Embarrassed

Unless you are going to game on it scrap that crap. https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php It's super user friendly. My dad switched to it no problem. I like xfce. Seriously you wont regret the switch.

Thanks, bookmarked.  Windows is needed for my poker programs although I'm spending very little  time on it nowadays.
219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 23, 2016, 11:39:25 AM
Huh Huh

Maybe you are a clam.

I'm assuming you are not referring to the shellfish....could you explain the meaning and usage of the term 'clam'? Smiley

I was being purposely obtuse and used a simple/silly 2 step association.  clam>shellfish>selfish

When N-rG stated "I see a solid future." after listing a few world wide problems that could cause chaos and pain, I assumed he was not being sarcastic and was looking forward to personal gain steaming from chaos and pain.  Big assumptions to be sure and based in part on his prior posts.  Maybe some see chaos and pain as inevitable but I would rather see crypto adoption and personal gain without it.

btw to connect to the bankers discussion:

I only know 2 two bank managers and both predict and new crash of the system. When we look to the US its Clinton/Trump.
Look to the EU, its falling apart due to refugee crisis and missleading (Merkel).
Asia also have trouble. The poor and middle class is going to be left behind around the globe.

Reconsider than what happend in the financial crisis 2011. A lot of money streamed into cryptos and gold.

I see a solid future.

 Huh Huh

Maybe you are a clam.
