2021  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me understand - Who uses Faucets? , and why? on: February 14, 2015, 04:09:25 AM
Faucets are a waste of time.
But if you want to get your hands on your first satoshis, it is a better way of obtaining them than begging.
People are initially reluctant to "spend" money to buy bitcoins.
2022  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain vs Electrum on: February 13, 2015, 12:32:10 AM
electrum all the way, and i don't remember that you can sign offline transaction with blockchain
I still don't understand how in hell you can do "offline transactions". How can that ever happen if we aren't connected to the blockchain? is there any video that answers this in layman's?

This tutorial will guide you through the steps involved.

After this hong kong theft,

I would wait till it drops lower.

After some days now it's clear that it had no impact of Bitcoin's price.

It gave quite a bit of publicity to Bitcoin, though.
2024  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any places to get free bitcoins for signing up? on: February 13, 2015, 12:27:50 AM
a sign camapaing :p

You need to post to get bitcoins from a signature campaign.
You don't get bitcoins by just signing up.  Smiley

If you are storing on an online wallet, there is no guarantee that your coin will be safe. I would suggest you opt for electrum. I don't know why you have doubts because basically if you noted down or remember the 12 word seed, you can recover your coins just about from anywhere.

The OP has doubts about security, not just recoverability.
2026  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to the Fourms, have a few questions. on: February 10, 2015, 12:22:13 AM
Also as far as anyone's opinion on a wallet as I have coinbase and xapo.

I would strongly recommend electrum.

If anyone has any advice with a safe Bitcoin poker room or casino online it would be much appreciated.

You just have to follow people's signatures, to get an idea about gambling sites.
There are plenty around.  You can also try Luckybit (featured in my signature) Smiley
2027  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain vs Electrum on: February 10, 2015, 12:18:31 AM
Yes i downloaded electrum but one fear of mine is if my computer goes corrupt or some thing like that happens.  I know as long as you have the 12 word phrase with you, its fine but that still pretty scary if the client or my computer has problems etc and thats why i want to just go with blockchain instead since as long as you have the password its fine.  Also it requires 2 FA whereas electrum doesn't.  So if someone has access to your computer... then obviously electrum isn't that safe then right compared to blockchain?

If your computer gets corrupted, you can still reinstall electrum and restore your wallet, if you have the 12 word seed.
The wallet on electrum can be encrypted with a password. So if somebody has access to your computer, he would still need the password to steal your coins.
2028  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "Trolls" are the most valuable asset on btctalk on: February 09, 2015, 02:25:26 PM
Serious question how much would a troll and his services get if he/she is the most valuable asset here?

They provide a reality check to the forum now and then.
I don't think anybody would be willing to pay for their services.
2029  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it the right time to invest on BTC on: February 09, 2015, 02:24:17 PM
It's always the right time to invest in BTC

As long as you are prepared to hold for the long term. Smiley
2030  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Minimum FEE for today? on: February 08, 2015, 12:50:14 PM
I would like to know the minimum transaction fee of Electrum

Thanks in advance!

If your coins have high priority and your transaction qualifies as a free one, you are allowed to set 0 as the transaction fee.
Otherwise, try 0.1 MBTC (0.0001 BTC)
2031  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Simple ways to earn Bitcoin? on: February 08, 2015, 11:05:41 AM
Faucets may be a waste of time, but signature campaigns are an easy way to earn bitcoins.  Smiley

So how does this work? Once a payment is made, one slot is free?

Edit: I get it, now. Smiley

Edit2: Dang! I checked the time. The slots get free only around midnight in my timezone. No wonder, I am not able to grab any slot here.  Undecided
I have never been able to participate in a happy hour too because of the time.

Today, I am going to sleep only after I get the slot.  Roll Eyes

If you miss tonight's slot, you may have a lengthy wait before other slots open up.  Wink
2033  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I "protect" my wallet on: February 07, 2015, 02:16:16 PM
Use cold storage.
Keep only coins which you need on a daily basis on your desktop wallet.
2034  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which BTC wallet are you using on: February 07, 2015, 02:11:25 PM

2036  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price push up ! (to 224) on: February 07, 2015, 03:58:59 AM
So what do you think ? prices are heading the right way but will they be able to hold these positions ?

Bitcoin prices have been stable at these levels for 3-4 days now.
That is a long time in Bitcoin history.  Tongue

2039  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Toldyaso alert] Hey 'dropt', looks like Bitcoin is right back in $200 range on: February 02, 2015, 12:10:13 AM
I put in a sell order at $200 for the night because I'm scared of what will happen
But then again I have a feeling I'm gonna regret it. Who the hell knows...

$200-$250 seems to be the range Bitcoin is moving in now. The coinbase news took it higher, but it is now settling down.
2040  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS threatens to kill 2 Japanese hostages unless Tokyo pays $200 million on: February 02, 2015, 12:07:42 AM
Did they demand the money in bitcoin ? If they did, we would see a massive pump Tongue
I wonder how these money-hostage trades happen.

They would have to be stupid to pay up, just imagine how many new victims would then be..
I feel sorry for the hostages tho, but u cant fund extremists, ever

Agree with that. If ransom was made, it would encourage terrorists to take more hostages.
