Speculation Rule: buy when others are irrationally pessimistic or too cautious

For trading in general it's buy on strength and sell on weakness.  But with Bitcoin's case it's buy the dips and hold, so the OP has the right idea, but only with Bitcoin.

Yeah, buy the dips and hold on bitcoin never fails to deliver, we just saw this in action a couple of hours ago, I bought at 765 dip and now we are back at 781. The uptrend is so healthy and strong we are going to test 800 soon.

With altcoins is too much of a gamble, you never know if you are buying a dip or you are buying in a never ending lowtrend towards infinite stagnation....

With Bitcoin, it makes sense to buy (as early as possible) and hold.
If you plan to buy at the dips, you need to have cash in hand. There is a possibility that you might miss out on the real big bull run.
Plus you need to cash out at sometime to ensure that you can buy at the next dip.
1322  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized Exchanges: Why do they lack liquidity? on: December 17, 2016, 05:14:41 AM
It is a chicken and egg problem. Once you have sufficient liquidity, the spread would decrease and more traders will be attracted to decentralized exchanges. Right now, I think people are complacent. They typically believe they won't be Goxed again.  Grin
1323  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 17, 2016, 05:04:48 AM
West Brom vs Manchester United : West Brom are in difficult position and they will be happy if they pick up at least one point in this match. As Manchester United are improving their results and they will looking to make a positive results but i think that this game wouldn't have too much goals in so under 2.5 goals should be enough for the game.

Hardly any points separate West Brom and Manchester United in the league tables. But Manchester United are slowly getting into form. They have a decent run of unbeaten games in the Premier League.I would bet on Manchester United to win this one.
1324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 2016 was amaizing yeae in crypto!!! on: December 17, 2016, 04:59:55 AM
To be honest 2016 was real amaizing year!
Everything i buy end of 2015 and start in 2016 give me fantastic profit from 300% to even close to 1000%!
Hope in 2017 its will be at least same or even better!
All give me nice profit i make few 100k$ with coins, btc, eth, leocoin, maidsafecoin, xaurum and monero!
Lets see what happen in 2017!?! 👍🏼

You could have done the same thing by staying fully invested in Bitcoin as well, at a lower risk.
2016 was a good year. In a bull run, all assets give phenomenal returns.
That doesn't make you a great stock (or alt) picker.
1325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: maidsafe rise! on: December 15, 2016, 08:44:56 AM
maidsafe coin is now incraese very high
maidsafe is support price or low price in level 7000 satoshi
this now is over 10k satoshin
in dollar value maidsafe incraese too, only wait can down again

Why are you saying that the price of maidsafe is too high? Its peak earlier this year was 22+K satoshi. It is now less than half of its peak value attained in March 2016.
Moreover, it has been on a declining trend for the last 3 months - from ~20K satoshi in early September to around 10K satoshi now.
1326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH under 10$!!! on: December 11, 2016, 04:32:05 PM
Still waiting for full capitulation before re-accumulating.

How will you identify that? The $7 ETH has seen could be the bottom and we could be on the way up.
You might wait for ever for ETH to reach a level that you are comfortable with re-entering.
1327  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Ethereum ? on: December 11, 2016, 04:29:21 PM
I think I will continue to stick with Eth even if the price has gone down so low so fast as of late.
It's up to you to decide... From my point of view, that would be quite risky. It's important to note that Bitcoin is in much better condition than before, with a considerable number of users, growing every day. Many economists already consider Bitcoin one of the investments with better profit potential for the coming months.

It may be more risky, but the potential for gains is also higher. Ethereum has a market cap of less than $1Bn, while Bitcoin is valued at $12+Bn. Even if ETH gets to half of Bitcoin's value, we can make huge profits. But then, it is your judgement, about whether ETH has that potential
1328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 11, 2016, 04:27:26 AM
I'm glad to see how Leicester city destroying Manchester city with 4 goals. That was an unexpected result. I predicted that Manchester city will win the game, But at this time, Jamie Vardy back to his best with a massive Trigol. I hope Leicester city can play like that for the rest of the season.

When most people has lose their faith for leicester city, they have proven themselves once again. They beat manchester city and that is a great feat for for them, not many could have beat them and I didnt expect that without fernadindho and aguero there will be such problem for manchester city to win

It was not just a victory. Leicester humiliated Manchester City. Nobody could have predicted the 4-2 scoreline, in favour of Leicester.
This is especially sweet considering their recent record (only 1 win in their last 8 matches).
1329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH under 10$!!! on: December 10, 2016, 03:54:58 AM
The devs may have come up with a good method to make themselves rich at the launch of the coin,
but I still wouldn't call it a "scam".

The ETH dev team is working with other companies and other projects like Augur, and they are coming up with some really cool ideas.
It would definitely be a much better play to increase the uses for this coin and cause a big increase in price, rather than dump your coins right now.
(If you work for the company and own a lot of coins.)
The project still has so much potential, there would be no reason to abandon it right now.

When the Ethereum was launched, the price was much lower. I think they deserve the reward as they worked for it.
Yes depand in ETH price was launched much lower then current price, but no wonder people who buy ETH when the price is 0.038BTC/ETH, maybe we can remember when DAO ico, ETH price go high and down when DAO get hacked, terrible moment

100% predictable moment, If you had done any research at the time you would have known. Everyone that lost in the DAO is an idiot that deserved it and did NOT deserve a bailout.

The HF bailout is what killed this coin and it will never recover.

ETH classic is not doing much better either. If the bailout was the fatal flaw, ETH classic should have flourished and ETH classic should have died a natural death.  Smiley
1330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero's ANON FAIL ! on: December 10, 2016, 03:40:01 AM
Bitcoin has value because "trust" is worth something.

And nothing says "trust" like a 100% mathmatically proveable immutable transparent ledger.

Why would you want to trade your paycheck for Fedcoins or Zcash if you don't even know how many of them exist?

OP is talking about Monero's fail here. If I really wanted to hide my stash of cash, I would prefer coins that give me much better anonymity than Bitcoin.
If indeed I wanted to store Bitcoins, I would have to run it through multiple mixers to anonymise my coins.

1331  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 10, 2016, 03:32:20 AM
Watford vs Everton :Watford had a bad performance in the previous games but they  are stable on their own stadium while Everton will be missing a lot of players and they are winless in four previous games but i expect them to score also Watford most likely to score so both teams to score is expected from this game also Watford to win or draw

Both teams have lost their way in recent times. The positive going for Everton is that they managed to draw against Manchester United last week.
With Wartford's dip in form, I would bet on Everton to win this one narrowly.
1332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Eth 6.66$ and keep go down! on: December 06, 2016, 06:44:21 AM
I don't think this drop in price is perculiar to Ethereum, though Eth has some issues presently but I think it is the whole Altcoin market presently, can someone tell me why Factom price is dropping

If I look at coinmarketcap right now, it is a mix of red and green, with the reds dominating. Agreed that when Bitcoin drops, most alts tend to follow it and drop as well. Even if you look at the alts which are dropping, none of them have lost ~10% like ETH has.
So you can't attribute ETH's drop to just market conditions.
1333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH is sick again on: December 06, 2016, 06:40:57 AM
I don't think ETH will be successed,it's just like a JOKE. Grin
No it is not joke but it is misery because of hard fork and impact on prices and eth pain worse.  Grin check it http://www.coindesk.com/ethereums-price-woes-continue-digital-currency-hits-9-month-low/

And it seems to be heading lower!! ETH is down nearly 10% in the last 24 hours.
The market sentiment seems to be turning truly bearish for ETH.
1334  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 06, 2016, 06:33:33 AM
Middlesbrough vs Hull WIN Middlesbrough at home at quote@1.85 is a great quote, I think that it will win easy.

Middlesbrough did not convincingly win this match. Final score at 1-0 says the story.
That said, Hull didn't look like they deserved to win even a single point in this match. They stay in the relegation zone.

I confirm that I have received the above repayment.
Cheers!
1336  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy bitcoin? on: December 04, 2016, 01:51:03 AM
The beauty of bitcoin is fluid entrance point - what I mean by that you basically can buy bitcoin whenever you feel like it and still be a winner.
If you can wait long enough and don't focus on short term gains then you will most certainly profit from BTC. I advise all my friends to buy at least 1 Bitcoin and hold it.
Potential profits in the future could be overwhelming compared to money invested in BTC now.

The people who invested at $1000+ in 2013 might not agree. Smiley
The advice given to investors in equity markets might hold true for BTC as well - invest in small quantities over a period of time. It helps you average out the volatility.
1337  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH under 8$!!! on: December 04, 2016, 01:40:46 AM
On ETH in near future we can expect the bull market. Problems will be resolved fully. I do not recommend opening any positions in margin trading, and wait for signals from developers.

How near is the near future? A week may be a long time in the crypto-world.
Ethereum might have its problems, but it occupies a niche space without any serious competition.
1338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the alternative cryptocurrency market flooded? on: December 04, 2016, 01:31:51 AM
Flooded? No way!
I'd like to see more ideas more experiments using blockchains, and more people doing it.

Some of the best stuff is yet to come.

The question is do we need hundreds of alts being listed, raising funds and then dying a quick death? People who have no new ideas shouldn't be creating me-too alts just to make a quick buck.
1339  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 04, 2016, 01:27:05 AM
It's over, Chelsea is just unstopable. The final result is 3-1 for chelsea. No one can beat them in 3 defender. Now just wait for Liverpool vs bournemouth. If Bournemouth winning the game, will be a really good day for Chelsea. Nine man in a big match against chelsea, and lost that game, it's a really bad day for Manchester City.
that was awesome performance for Chelsea because beat Manchester City at Etihad stadium is very difficult but Chelsea has did it without any problem however Liverpool must win because if they lost then range points between them and Manchester City is getting far and will decrease their chance to get the EPL trophy

That is true. I thought Chelsea might struggle to beat Manchester City because of the home advantage, but they did it in style. Coming back from 0-1 to win 3-1 is truly amazing. At half time, Chelsea must have felt the pressure. The two red cards in injury time were pointless though. Made the whole atmosphere chaotic.
1340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: December 03, 2016, 12:21:11 PM
Well it was hit on all fronts, dao, attacks, hacks, forks...I think if it hits $7 it would be a good time to start buying if you are not already accumulating already. The reason is that this is the long trendline from before the DAO. Yes it can go to $5-6 depending on BTC rally but to me that's a steal. It all comes down to long term potential and BTC can't be the only blockchain ruling the world, they complement each other perfectly and the market will eventually react to that.

Plus, BTC will be dumping soon, not sure what's the top but we are very close, when that happen you will see ETH shorts getting rekt and the bounce will be epic to 150k and above (it could still come down after that though).

Nope, not accumulating. That's a sucker's game at this point imho. Waiting for the big move, as I said recently, with the intention of selling the rebound.

I do not share your bearish views on Bitcoin.

I'm not shorting ETH at these prices really, too risky, the money was already made shorting it from above 0.02...now the tide will change. Bitcoin will touch $800 (even $820-850) and then dump, mark my words. ETH can still go to 600-800k during this time.

Shorting ETH at this stage would be a bad, bad idea. It already is at a six month low (in terms of BTC) and there seems to be no fundamental reason for further declines. Bitcoin is showing strength, but that should not be reason for you to go short on ETH.
