2061  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Illegal Migrant Crisis in Mediterraean on: June 18, 2015, 11:25:38 PM
As I see the guys in Hungary going to build a new iron curtain (4 meter high fence) on the Serbian border for keeping them off the country. For some reason the EU and the UN complaining because of these "inhumane" plans.

Bulgaria also has spent millions of EU money to beef up its borders. I'm afraid that's the future. There are just way too many people who want to get in. Italian newspapers has shown pictures of migrants praying on the rocks, along the coast in Ventimiglia, and guess what, they're all muslims! Great! Thousands of poor unskilled muslims! I see why France doesn't want them.
2062  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Greek Debt Committee Declared All Debt To The Troika "Illegal, Illegitimate,..." on: June 18, 2015, 11:18:28 PM
I see it the other way around. It's not the debt, it was all the massive loans they got which were grossly illegitimate. They've also said that they don't want to be humiliated, but I fail to see what humiliation there is with paying your debts.
2063  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece has made an important concession on: June 18, 2015, 11:14:48 PM
I think it is worth repeating over and over the extent to which the Greek economy is still heavily regulated and under state control. Tax collections are down, major portions of the economy are constrained by idiotic bureaucracy and inefficiency, and the labor market remains largely unreformed, as do state pensions.
The problem is that de-regulation and privatization are often painful enough under normal economic conditions, but will lead to catastrophic conditions in a debt crisis that Greece is in. The Greek people do not seem to appreciate the degree to which their own leaders and capital class have screwed the future of the country, by failing to modernize and revitalize the Greek economy when more headroom for change was available. It seems now that only a major economic collapse, much worse than what we have seen to date, is in store for Greece, sadly.

Absolutely, when you have cancer, the longer you wait before getting treatment, the more difficult and the longer the cure. Sometimes, the patient dies because it's too late.
2064  Economy / Economics / Re: If Greece defaults on: June 18, 2015, 11:09:09 PM
How many "deals" have we already had with Greece? Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Well... none of the deals have helped them much. Give them some significant concessions (such as lowering the interest rates), and then see the results. Right now, the troika is hell bent on destroying the Greek economy. Just tell me how is it possible to make a debt payment of € 8 billion per year, when the tax revenue is much lower than that amount?
These dangerous considerations are exactly why their bonds pay as well as they do. There will be no chaotic scenario. Greece will revert back to the drachma and the banksters will take their medicine. Iceland did that and they are doing just fine.

I don't think we can compare Greece to Ireland. They are very different countries, with very different people.
Very different history, too, but there's no doubt some of the harsh measures Ireland took to jack up its economy could help Greece, too.
2065  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There was just a block with 0 transactions, is Bitcoin forking or something? on: June 18, 2015, 11:06:08 PM
Edit: To clarify, I have not noticed those 0 transactions blocks till recently, so it is possible this has existed since the beginning of mining.
It has been going on since Bitcoin began and has always existed. Just look at the first hundred or thousand blocks. They are all empty blocks because Satoshi was both the only person mining and the only person on the Bitcoin network.

We understand that. The question is how can this happen nowadays with more than 100,000 daily transactions and a large bunch of miners all other the planet.

I wonder if this could have been done on purpose, with 2 miners working together, one "idling" his computer when it's about to complete the mining of a block, and only releasing it one second after his friend had mined a block. Do I have a crazy imagination, or is this possible?
2066  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What Is A Social Justice Warrior (SJW)? on: June 17, 2015, 07:35:13 PM
There's no such thing as social justice. Or maybe in a jail. All the inmates have the same rights, they all wear the same clothes, they all eat the same food, and they all live in similar cells. I fail to understand how some people may see this as an ideal. I believe those spending their lives in jails may share my opinion.
2067  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Illegal Migrant Crisis in Mediterraean on: June 17, 2015, 07:26:02 PM
I'm not expecting the present situation to last long as this is raising popularity of the far right. Since elections are never far away in Italy, Renzi will have to act to keep moderate voters behind him.

Renzi, just did act "moderate". He annouced, that, if mandatory migrant quotas are not accepted by other countries, Italy will give free euro visa to everybody, who so far entered the country. Italian state will by this act alone, effectively legalize trans-med human trafficking and any sort of semblance of border control and security for its partners in Europe. No so long ago, this would be act of terrorism and reason for declaration of war.

I am for cancelling of Shengen and putting troops and militias on borders. As are 85% of my compatriots right now.

This isn't the only option, but with thousands arriving every month, and France blocking them at its border, Italy badly needs to do something. It just cannot afford to keep tens of thousands of migrants. There will hundred of thousands soon, something must be done.

Canceling shengen would be a huge set back to the EU economy and integration and that's not a solution, you are just adding an additional hurdle that can easily  by passed

Cancelling Shenghen isn't the solution. What we should do is help those people living better in their home countries. I understand that the situation is tricky in Syria, but there are many African countries like Niger where much could be done to help the locals.
2068  Economy / Economics / Re: If Greece defaults on: June 17, 2015, 07:21:41 PM
Kick the ~Greece out from the EU .They lied to join the EZ , and they should not be trusted again with a Golden Credit Card again.

Eastern Europeans live on far less than they do.

A pensioner in Bulgaria gets half of what a Greek pensioner gets in Greece right now.

Have you seen the Bulgarians asking for more ? If the Bulgarians can live without borrowing money, so the Greeks can do.

Very true, and the Bulgarians are smarter, it's a much better country to start a business than in Greece. Economic data doesn't lie. Foreign investments are growing in Bulgaria, and global economic growth is among the best in Europe. I guess Bulgarians could teach a lot to Greeks, but the Greeks don't want to learn.
2069  Economy / Economics / Re: Germany may slap capital controls on Greece on: June 17, 2015, 07:14:48 PM
...

Yes, I know that everyone has been screaming about Greece since 2010 without anything happening.

If we go back further in time, many people in Northern Europe were against Greece joining the Eurozone. They only got admitted with lies: the data Greece provided back then was wrong.

it should be better for the euro, to kick them then, right? why they are still helping those liar if they did not deserve to be part of the euro zone in the first place, Greece on the other hand joined because they were in a their own crisis even before the joining, like you said, and for them joining the euro would have been only a great benefit, but now that euro is falling too, they are essentially digging their grave

The Euro isn't exactly failing. What's failing are the leaders who are unable to make countries respect the Maastricht treaty with a country's debt limited at 60% of GNP and the current deficit at 3%. If only a few go by the rules, and nobody slaps on the wrists of those who don't, yes, we're headed towards failure, bit the Euro was a fantastic idea. I remember how unconvenient it was having to change banknotes each time I crossed a border. Thanks to the Euro, I'm doing much less often.
2070  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin classified as a currency. No VAT for BTC also in Switzerland. on: June 17, 2015, 07:03:39 PM
Frankly, this isn't a surprise. There's no VAT issue with BTC, the real issue is tax on capital, but then it would be tricky to enforce. Unless you're an early miner selling a large quantity of BTC, the average BTC to cash transaction will go unnoticed.
2071  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you buy a prepaid crypto card? on: June 17, 2015, 06:59:05 PM
Yes, I guess I could buy one of those, though I wouldn't pay much for it but I like the idea of a card,, because it would free me from having to open my laptop and write a password (I don't want to have a smartphone, they're tools for surveillance).
2072  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush enters 2016 race on: June 17, 2015, 06:51:24 PM
Yes, discriminatory, absolutely. Just like a president cannot do more than 2 terms. That's why republics have been invented. Anyone here not British, wants to go back to a monarchy?

You can't compare the 2-term rule to the demand that family members of past presidents should be disqualified from running as candidates in the presidential election. Every US citizen must be eligible to participate in the POTUS election. You can't discriminate someone by saying that your husband or brother was previously the POTUS.

Yes, you can. That was standard policy in many large corporations a few decades ago. At IBM in the 70's, if a male employee happened to meet its future wife among his colleagues, it was standard practice that she would have to leave the company before the 2 would be allowed to marry. That's close to the idea I'm defending here. Besides, I think the world has seen enough of Hilary and the Bush family.

2074  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A Cop just told me, "Freedom doesn't exist anymore." on: June 17, 2015, 12:00:45 AM
Again, this was not a noise issue.  There was no noise complaint.

Are you sure about that ?
Some neighbor may have called the cops to complain without the policeman telling you about it.
Besides that, if there's a noise regulation, you can't blame a cop for enforcing it.

Now regarding freedom, you may have heard of thousands of African migrants coming to Europe. If those people were free, there would one thousand of them lining up your street, begging for food.
2075  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Thoughts on Taxation on: June 16, 2015, 11:48:17 PM
I'm always amazed to see people worrying about the government... That damned beast can tax property, it can tax all businesses with a street addresses, it could also tax Internet connection, or even phone lines. The government can tax you if drive a car because it made it illegal to drive a vehicle not registered, so... I'm afraid the beast will survive.
2076  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race on: June 16, 2015, 11:42:42 PM
I've heard that before, but it's more than food. Agriculture has also put an end to nomadism. That is the most terrible thing. People living their whole life where they were born. I'm happy not to live like that. I guess I've spent some 70 nights in hotels so far this year (in a dozen hotels, in different cities), and I just couldn't live any other way. Things get too boring after a while if you always stay in the same place.
2077  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush enters 2016 race on: June 16, 2015, 11:35:16 PM
There should be a law saying that when 2 guys from the same family have been president, a third guy cannot get that same job. That law could then be extended to spouses of former presidents.

Such a law would be discriminatory. The fact that someone's brother, sister, father or husband is already an elected representative should not be a valid reason to disqualify him from an election. And why limit this anti-family law just to the POTUS elections? Why don't make it applicable in the Senate / House elections?

Yes, discriminatory, absolutely. Just like a president cannot do more than 2 terms. That's why republics have been invented. Anyone here not British, wants to go back to a monarchy?

2079  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Santander: Blockchain Tech Can Save Banks $20 Billion a Year on: June 16, 2015, 11:24:34 PM
$20 Billion a Year, really?
Anyway, I wouldn't like my bank to use the blockchain, for the excellent reason that it's public. The best banks are private institutions with all their books private, far from all eyes. A blockchain is definitely a smart way to keep a database, but each bank needs to build its one private blockchain if they think it's better than their actual solutions.
2080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Banks are 'very excited' said Bitpay on: June 16, 2015, 11:19:58 PM
I don't like it when banks say they are "very excited". History shows us that what's good for banks rarely translates into anything good for the average guy like you and me.
