well it turns out that indeed, they want it back.

as you said i should of converted to btc - the estate would of made $400ish USD at this point. but i think i would of had to open an exchange account for the estate, which im not sure i could do, although it was probably possible. and taxes etc.

sure i could of done it under my name but to satisfy the estate stuff legally (family involved would of been fine with it but you just never really know) i just left it as USD.

although some now swear by win10s (and 7 too i think) built in stuff as apparently its far better than previous versions. i run that too but have never actually used it for recovery. and i have blown my C: drive (samsung 840 pro pretty much died.. and it failed its own self diagnostic).

there goes the 1200USD my dead relative received. not sure how to return it as it went the estate account via direct deposit.

shoulda bought btc with it. would of been an easy $400 profit for the estate or somewhere around there after returning the 1200.

EDIT its not like they didnt know the person was dead, it said "Decd" after the persons name on the letter they sent me notifying me about the deposit.

i keep a small amount parked on exchanges for just that reason.. to take advantage of any sudden increase that also results in packed blocks with high fees. what good is a great price for corn when you cant get it to an exchange.

its sort of like keeping a small amount on a phone or other hot wallet. as long as you can afford to kiss it goodbye due to hack or whatever.

not you keys not your coin is Rule One, but who wants to get stuck trying to move coins when everyone else has the same idea. waiting days for a transaction is not my idea of smooth sailing during a nice price increase that may only last for days itself.

like everything else, its a trade off. pick your comfort level and sit back and relax.
