<snip>
Yeah, I can't get past this:

And if vapourminer is correct and you need to wire money to them, I'm not doing it.  Today I had to get a refund from Bitpay for an invoice that they fucked up and they made me go through full KYC procedures in order to get that refund (which still hasn't arrived).  Shit is no joke these days--I even had a much harder time renewing my driver's license this year.

George Orwell's vision is coming true, man.  Big Brother is glaring at us from everywhere.

yeah that wire transfer bit for gemini was the cause of the three year gap between me signing up several years ago and finally activating it "for real" with a wire xfer last month. as im lazy af and never got around to it as that banks is 40 minutes away.

its a token amount as i said, i sent $100 USD (and paying the banks $30 wire xfer fee) but it could of been less/more (i asked in a support email.. they just want an actual wire xfer in any amount for whatever reason but it HAS to be from the linked account on your gemini profile.).

im not sure why the wire xfer bit bugs you, after all they have your linked bank account info for ACH in and out once the wire clears (took a day iirc). after the wire cleared i did small ACH test transfers of cash (and some corn) in and out to test it all. no issues. its now my main exchange (coinbase being relegated to a backup exchange now), and ive sent decent amount through no prob.

btw they just informed me ill get a 1099k for 2020 lol. thanks, but ive always paid me taxes on corn so that form is expected, and the number it shows isnt what you pay taxes on anyway (for those wondering or who never got one before).

is there something a wire xfer gives away that a linked bank account doesnt? or are you guys just linking debit cards?

OK, so here's a followup:

[,,,] after going through the KYC process they said the next step was to send a wire deposit to them(!).

I've never sent money via wire before, and I really don't want to.  Therefore I figured if that was the only option to continue on Gemini, I would close my account.  Which I did.  I couldn't even buy bitcoin with the debit card that I'd entered.

Did I do something wrong here or what?

i had to send a same day wire transfer to activate my gemini account too. just need to send a token amount from the account youve linked gemini to. after that its ACH all the way,

so, just something they do, and you just need to do it once.

Oh well, as always, never write anything on the Internet that you wouldn't want read aloud in your town square. That goes for this site too....

yup. and not always because of hacks either.

back in the bfl days theymos informed me (and others) thats any pms about blf were being subpoenad and he was forced to turn them over to some agency or another. he listed the ones he had to send.

not that that was never in question; theymos stated long ago that he would have to obey court orders.

anyway, some of that terminology may be off, sorry.

I'm looking at houses (before the boat) and since I basically want a field or a forest (or both) a septic tank is basically mandatory, when I have been told all my life that it's a nightmare...

Septic tanks are okay with tons of land ie 10 acres or more.

Built 2x over  spec

and put enzymes in 1 or 2 times a month.

wells are also okay if there is a lot of land and if you have a large space in your home to filter the water.

i was gonna mention over speccing the tank we replaced ours 8 or 9 years ago and ours is specced for two extra non existent bedrooms (bedrooms seems to be part of the size calculation) and a garbage disposal (another part of the size calculations) which we dont currently have. also we were told by the installer to never use additives. a properly set up tank should not need additives.

our well water treatment system is pretty big, 3 bigass tanks almost as tall as i am (ph adjuster, softener, and carbon) plus hydrogen peroxide injection, plus reverse osmosis for drinking water. so yeah takes a lot of room. in the basement

also, if you have a water softener or other water treatment system, use a drywell for the backwash. i think thats code anyway but our installer sees backwash going to the septic in a lot of installs.

Fill this application if you are poor again.

they wouldnt take me. some sort of criminal background check fail or some such shit.

speaking of shit, ive have been offered the job of hand emptying septic tanks. they even said i could have all the overtime i want, as well as i could eat anything i find while doing it. so, food and a job. life is good.

1413  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 04, 2021, 12:44:48 PM
You're saying you're taxed on BTC earnings, is that right ? If so, then sell the BTC amount that will pay the tax at that same moment you get it. I'm already hating paying capital gains taxes (that has been lowered to 30%, it used to be more than 50%), but paying taxes on a value that is no longer there would be terrible.

this is what i do as in the USA we are taxed when we make the profit, so i cash out like 30% more than what what my fiat target is. need $10k USD? then sell $13500 USD worth. then i stick the 3.5k in the bank where it just sits there and pay my taxes with it when due.

sure it leaves some profit on the table in a bull market but if its bear season you can still sleep very peacefully knowing you dont have to sell at a reduced price to cover taxes later.

1419  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 02, 2021, 01:52:13 PM
So you felt richer after BTC went from 700 -> 18,000 compared to 9000 -> 30,000?       Seems right but that would mean it is downhill from here which doesn't seem to be the case.      Do you remember when BTC was hitting $3000?  How does that feeling compare to now?

this is embarrassing but i dont recall 3k with any particular emphasis. 100, 1000, 10k and the 2017 ath of 20k sure. but not 3k.

so.. yeah drugs mess with your memory. you have been warned.

1420  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 02, 2021, 01:37:55 PM
So in Nov - Dec I said 25-30k was a correction zone.

Thus I sold a piece today at 30200.

Still holding and stacking , but could not pass up a sale at the 30k point.

Besides I don't have to worry about taxes on it for  while since I sold it in 2021.

It would really be nice to see BTC go to my second correction zone which is 70-80k.

The next 19 days are crictical.

i had small token sells exactly at 30k for lulz but had some above that (~30.5-30.7) that cooked off as well. yeah this could prolly be just the start of another "holy sheeeeet" run but if it fizzles out now for a while ill not worry about it. if not this run, 50k+ seems like all but guaranteed in 2021 at some point.

heres to hoping your second scenario plays out.. and to be an underestimation at that.

disclosure: but wtf do i know, im just here for the ride and free drinks.
