Thankfully the CDC has used our tax dollars to get us "Zombie Prepared" as well:  https://www.cdc.gov/cpr/zombie/index.htm

this was years ago and took advantage of all the zombie movies and such around then. by linking it to that in a humorous way they got publicity and information out that many would never of read otherwise.

its basically the same things you do in any emergency situation, but with a zombie flair. doesnt make it any less useful.

someone wrote a book about a message embedded into pi after some ridiculous amount of digits, had plans for some machine or something. carl sagan maybe?

the ultimate easter egg for sure.

I just had a quick google search, Carl Sagan, Contact I'm gonna check that out for sure!

there was the book and a movie based on it. the books far far better of course so read it before seeing the movie, which was mediocre at best.
1264  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are we in a Simulation? on: March 14, 2021, 11:37:35 AM
who would design a simulation that includes irrational numbers (pi etc)? the goal of creating an artificial reality would certainly include the ability to have absolutely accurate measurements and values for everything. easier from a computational point of view as why waste computing power unnecessarily.

cant have rounding errors in the universe. its, well, untidy, as well as being inconvenient.

Maybe the goal is to see how we would deal with such things, Pi is not only irrational its transcendental, but it's properties are beautiful. Pi and e could be eastereggs for us to find!

Do you guys also get that angry feeling deep down there in your heart? Where you heart say "I wish I should have kept my bitcoins which I earned or bought back in the time?""
I think no matter how big trader you are or big investor you are, this feeling stays the same to all of us if you have already sold your bitcoin.
I know there is thing called as satisfaction, so if someone says I sold at 14k USD and made profits then it's fine.

BUT, today the price is so high that even such guy would say I wish I would have kept it. Don't know but honestly this is what is going on my mind right now.

[...]

Be honest, and tell me do you feel the same?

i sold a bunch years ago for around 12k usd. it allowed me to retire and pursue some dreams of mine years earlier that even my most optimistic projection.

do i regret that? NOPE. best thing i did from my point of view.

some define "rich" as in net worth. and while my net worth is ok i certainly dont consider myself "rich" from a btc/fiat point of view.

rich to me is good friends, good health, and a stable and safe homestead.

That's what people without money say, just like people without beauty always say "beauty is on the inside"

if you had to pick fiat rich or friendship/health rich which you you pick.

of course both is better heh
1267  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: March 14, 2021, 10:30:09 AM
if i am bitmain i can build an eth miner or a s19 pro

both burn 3300 watts.

the eth miner makes 200 a day
the btc miner makes  44 a day.

which miner do i want to build? right here right now the eth miner.

whats the lead time to build an eth miner? this might be flipped 6 months from now.

Additionally, casual pressing "I am rich as fuck"-to me this sounds somewhat cringe-worthy, maybe only if you are a Mansa Musa reincarnation, and even then, but I digress, maybe I am too old school for the TikTok/Instagram/Snapchat age. Besides, on some subreddits such claim would require mod validation. Not here, though, which does not add credibility.

Speaking of taking a shit....Who came up with that "taking a shit" term anyway?  It seems to have quite the opposite meaning.

well i figure its because i take my shit to suitable a location to leave it there instead. so, i take it from one location (my bowels) to another location for, well, reasons ya know.

edit still holding $60k+ USD at stamp. guess its time to take my morning lucky shit on a trip to its new home in the septic tank. should be good for another 1k increase (uh, in btc price that is).

1272  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, I salute your final ATH. on: March 14, 2021, 12:35:07 AM
This is just the beginning of this bull run. This will definitely be different from others and I can foresee a minimum of $200k before the end of this year. All-time high just getting going.

i think proudhons maths and sciences would like a word with you.

$60k has been hit. Who else is eyeing $69,420 as their next target?

I will probably set up a small limit sell at that price so that I can look back fondly at this milestone in my order book when we reach the moon.

that number (and some variants) has been in my sell list for a looooooong time heh
1275  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 13, 2021, 12:06:51 PM
Its like trying to stop a tsunami of honey badgers

thats an image i wont be able to erase from my mind now lol

pretty accurate discretion actually.

and $60k USD? shiny!

had several sells pop off, time to reset some ladders.

1277  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: March 12, 2021, 10:25:49 AM

-   Animated signatures.

Ability to add animated avatars and even images (regardless of size) in signatures was removed so not sure how that would pass.

I don't think images would be a big deal and could be one of the benefits of the highest donator tier. I think they were originally removed along with gifs for being too flashy/distracting or something, but signature designs have evolved over the years and many of them can be pretty flashy so I don't think there would be much difference between images and bbcodes really. I think people found a loophole on the avatars as well as some of them are animated.

wasnt one reason animated gifs in avatars were remove was because of the cosby hack? or was that something else.

edit: im sure i messed the quotes up; my apologies
1278  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 12, 2021, 10:01:33 AM
The double letters have to do with the pronunciation of the vowel in front of them, if the vowel is short the consonant afterwords is (usually) doubled.

Yes, they are smaller units of measure. A kanna for example is 2,617 liters according to the rules of 1665.
1 kanna was divide in to (for fluids) 1/48 tunna (barrel) = 2 stop = 8 kvarter = 32 jungfrur (virgins) (also called ort).
The unit was also used in Germany https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanne_(Einheit)

And skäppa is also a measure (German Scheffel, English bushel) known from the bible "candle under a bushel"

Here's some more swedish units for you to meditate over.
1 Foder = 2 Pipa (pipe) =  4 Oxhuvud (oxenhead) = 6 Fat or åm (barrel) = 12 Halvfat (halfbarrel) = 24 Ankare (anchor) = 48 Halvankare (halfanchor) = 360 Kanna = 942,12 liter

The word kanna is by the way still used today but now it just means pitcher.

And tunna means barrel, so tunnland originally meant the area of land that a farmer could seed with a barrel of grain seeds.

Edited.

yeah, but how many joints in a lid?

Our planet has seen no less than 4 or 5 ice ages. It will come again. They say the climate change will make everything melt too. Better be prepared to live at both extremes. I would personally find it nicer to live in a colder country as most homes can be easily insulated and heated.

Yeah, but shoveling the driveway and getting snowed in has a very limited entertainment value.

yeah but racing your buds at 100+MPH on a snowmobile does have entertainment value.

until you screw up and get maimed/killed that is.

In order for banks not to lose relevance, they will have to adapt to Bitcoin sooner or later. I believe that in the next few years it will be quite normal to have a fiat and a bitcoin account at your bank.

Would you trust your bank with your bitcoin to earn interest?

bit of a sorta related aside here

the branch manager at the bank i set an account for gemini up with was surprisingly knowledgeable about bitcoin. we discussed coinbase and gemini (she had to make sure i wasnt being scammed into signing up for gemini for sending coin for promises or out of the country and such). i got the impression she was a bitcoiner herself although i didnt ask of course.

now thats different than holding coin as you mention but still it was a nice surprise that she was all on board with setting the account up. telling her it was mainly going to be an offramp from gemini to fiat in her bank probably didnt hurt.

banks are slowly getting the message methinks. or at least some of the employees are anyway.
