I am amused that we have made a new ATH of $29,700 and no one seems to have noticed.  Including myself.

I don't like saying, "I told you so" but I did mention it in my morning greeting.

I realize nobody actually reads it but it's a good way to keep my post count up.  Cheesy

Apologies, you did indeed.  Your Guinness post was quite captivating though!

A JPG is worth 1k words.

wazzat? a JJG is worth 1 kilowords?

per second?

edit: explorer beat me to it

^ looks like an IBM XT (with 8086 or 8088) with removed or photoshopped logo. Good old times and burnt in monitors...

EDIT: 5.25" 360KB (iirc) Floppy disks were standard. You could cut/punch out the write-enable tab at the other side and turn em around (vertical flip) and use em double-sided. Just like the old 8" dinosaurs, but a little more handy and soo above punch cards and tape reels back then.

I had a very similar-looking Siemens Nixdorf XT 088 with a monochrome monitor (black and amber?orange?) and a dot matrix printer  Grin these floppies had to be handled very carefully and didn't last long anyway  Grin

yeah looked like a green monochrome monitor. got one out in the barn somewhere.

I think that fourth law that R Daneel came up with all by himself (protect humanity) is a bit too PC for my taste but it works well in the books.

I have to reread those books. Isn't R Daneel the emperors gardener or something on Trantor?

the zeroth law? it did work out in the series.

cant remember if R Daneel was the gardener though, thought he was an adviser of some sort.

time to re read some stuff. got a bit of a backlog right now.

Didn't he have some kind of mental power to nudge people in (what he perceived as) the right direction for humanity?

Or am I confusing that with some other books?

possibly as there was a robot in the robot series that could do that. had to be very very light touch in a direction the person was already inclined as there was the fear of messing the person up bigly. but im not sure if that was R Daneel or his sidekick robot.. forgot its name.

there was The Mule of course but that was really the Foundation series even though eventually the robot and Foundation books were tied together.

Re: NAS

Now I understand that not everybody has a 19" rack in the basement (though these can be had very cheap too :-)) or even a separate room to place a loud beast like this in. Still, all these NAS products that I have had my hands on over the years totally and royally sucked and gave me a very bad price/performance ratio. Avoid them if you can, maybe build something yourself, load FreeNAS or whatever, everything is better than these shitty towers of future misery due to data loss.

freenas on supermicro low power xeon mobo ftw. mix of spinners, ssds, and external usb drives in a shortie 19" rack case. 64 gigs ECC ram expandable to 128gigs. ZFS file system rocks imo

back it up to another freenas box (the previous daily driver nas) and always have the old one off line except for when backing up. other backups exist on various media, cant have too many backups.

back to on topic: we need moar helicopter drawings

well thats annoying. someone pressed the wrong pedal. this is why i remove all the brake pedals in all my vehicles. that way you cant accidentally step on that stupid "give up delta-v" pedal. useless thing.
And now $22,990

Pull over and get off LOL

$22,964

yeah time to pull off to the breakdown lane for a moment. probably forgot some vaguely unimportant thing, fuel purge or some stupid thing maybe
1438  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 23, 2020, 11:16:35 AM

You get used to the good stuff too soon. After the inicial excitement, I now find it pretty boring being sideways for a while at $22-24k levels.

I see myself yawning in the future because we are sideways at around $100k.

i remember it being a big deal (to me anyway) when it hit $100 USD/coin. wild! unbelievable! (well to the uninformed, which i was still kinda at that point). it was sort of the validation for me that this pig could actually fly and just hang on tight no matter what.. moon or crater, i was in the game to stay.

and now? 20k+ ..   meh. wake me up at 30k+.. just so i can sneer at the price for a moment till i nap again until 40k+
