You don't need a hardware wallet, people were using paper wallet for years without any issues.

well one time i had the paper wallet folded in such a way that eventually a crease mangled some letters in a private key. it wasnt a trivial amount so i wasnt exactly happy that i had not thought about folds damaging letters when storing it.

took a while to sort it out. im more careful now.

Nice page to post on.

Keep posting on the next few pages if you want to permanently get on page 27777. People will probably start deleting posts to move themselves from the next few pages onto this one.

wait, is this some new maths and science game? how does it work? i just shitpost as usual and hope to get lucky?

makes it easier to track ya.   Grin Cool

meh. even if i specified some new addy for the payout they would link it to my old account anyway.

i just use coin control if im worried about such things.
1445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: December 20, 2020, 12:31:48 AM
So I login in to my old Nicehash address to get my remainder of my payout from the hack. And unfortunately can’t withdraw because min withdraw is like 0.01BTC and I only got like $20 left since I withdrew 80% earlier in the year in case they went insolvent again.

Then I notice they have an exchange now. So I figure, ok will convert to ETH and withdraw that. And again I didn’t meet the min withdraw it was like $30 or so. Even BCH or EOS had like a $30 min withdraw. Then I noticed USDC was only $10 min withdraw. So I figured might try that. So again I converted ETH to USDC and tried to withdraw and a huge fee of $5 popped up. Since I wasn’t ever going to use nicehash again i figured might as well get my $10 at least. So made the withdraw, said successful hours ago and even sent me an email it was processed but still didn’t arrive in my wallet.

Oh well. I see nicehash going KYC soon since they got an exchange running now. Seems very similar to the old shapeshift now.

did the address link to an account?

i was mining with a blind btc account. and not with an email account.

so they sent me the coin.

you can still use simple miner and mine to an address .

now maybe they change that. if they do then they are not worth much. to me.

my remaining payout came the other day automatically, no effort on my part needed. it just showed up. it went to my core wallet and addy that i had used for nicehash all along, so i guess it pays to keep the same wallet for ages.
1446  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 17, 2020, 12:17:57 PM

....i mine to a desktop wallet. then send to an exchange to corn.

phil is the mining man to talk to.

You are paying innecesary gas/fees mining to your wallet, if you plan to sell them later.
Mine right to your address at the exchange.

thanks ill look into that. i remember at one point some exchanges didnt like that as it clogged them up or something. maybe it was only specific coins or exchanges.

1447  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 17, 2020, 11:59:17 AM

I didn't think I would get much Eth with just the one GPU? I'm trying to avoid getting killed on exchange fees so the auto-switching pools -> BTC directly seemed like the best option

Mine at some reputable ETH pool. With 1 1080ti you will be paid each 4-5 days (maybe). Use ETH address from your Binance account, and trade for BTC weekly.
Enjoy your monthly 30-40 usd of harversted corn.

i mine at ethermine.org with around 100mh/s on eth. pays out once a week no matter what the balance (so far anyway).

cant say thats a glowing recommendations (im a small time hobby miner at best) its just what i wound up at. easy setup and i mine to a desktop wallet. then send to an exchange to corn.

phil is the mining man to talk to.
1448  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bet PrimeNumber7 vs. DaveF on: December 17, 2020, 11:50:16 AM
I would not be surprised to see Trump hold rallies throughout the Biden/Harris Presidency, and he will probably campaign for Republicans in the 2022 midterms, who are expected to retake the House, which Trump will take credit for.

somehow i cant see trump campaigning for anyone but himself. his massive ego wont allow it. he will go to the grave mumbling about his "stolen" election. its the only thought left in what passes for his brain.

imo of course. politics isnt my gig but it seems everyone got sucked into it cuz of trumps ego.

as for the money he raised.. correct me if im wrong but cant he use the bulk of that (75%) for anything he wants regardless if its for political proposes or to buy more orange paint.

edit if this is off topic apologies, lemme know and ill delete it.
1449  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 17, 2020, 11:39:34 AM
good morning vapourminer   awake from $22.5k nap?  we are there

thanks! and a good morning to you sir.

and it is a good morning indeed. $22,610 USD at stamp.

i may need to do a serious power nap to get to say at least $24,000, these short naps for chump change gains just dont cut it for a professional napper like myself.

and fortunately, while im currently snowed in from a nor'easter, i have plenty of weed, the internet is up and it looks like its  gonna be a relaxing day.

this is the one i use, its the original from back in the day (BUT DONT TRUST ME EITHER)

Code:
OhGodAnETHlargementPill-r2.exe        447 KB (458,240 bytes)     ‎May ‎01, ‎2018, ‏‎10:55:28 AM

and the hashes for the above executable:

Code:
MD5
1351BF58A407FA5F89A6613E00A2E9DF

Code:
SHA-1
547BAE93C4437183E9D3176D226AFAC20AF287E9

Code:
SHA256:
1261052E34B3205DC04F5DD9E4B76D2649DBCDA738DC8E2665B07F56D659E716

Code:
SHA512
38AD312442031871AC73A8FAD87FDF0D02900764CAA697BF3DCBD6B13C35E42CE32F1FA729BF09B4830C8F265054201256BAA1E7B1D51730EFB4BDDC6A3E4BA9

again TRUST NO ONE EVEN ME. and while its the one ive used from the very beginning (long before it was taken down for reasons) USE AT YOUR OWN RISK (if you can find it obviously)

perhaps others who have it will also post the hashes of their (hopefully known good) executable to confirm my hashes.

and no, i will not post it anywhere as im not sure of the legalities, sorry. just posting the hashes for others to verify they have the one that i have (and i got it from the source back in the day).

edit: it does seem to still give a slight boost on my 1080tis on eth even with custom straps via the miner. but its not as good at increasing hash as it was.

It used to be MtGox, but we all know how that ended..

I think people picked up Bitstamp after that as it had the longest continuous trading history of all the exchanges

makes sense. right when i got into bitcoin in 2011 i joined mtgox. only for it have its database hacked like seemingly weeks later. and then the real hack with the shutdown and trapped coin of course.

fun times. teh mtgox fiasco was almost a main reason why i stuck around mining back then. any project this wild could be onto something. drama on a scale id never been involved with before. and with (a small amount) of skin in the game it made it kinda fun.
1455  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 16, 2020, 12:50:06 PM
Stop looking for alternatives. Bitstamp has been the reference for ages.

as one who was late to the WO party, and at the risk of being seen as even stupider than i actually am, why it it bitstamp for the official WO price?

be gentle on me im having a bad day with everyone explaining all my mistakes with exchanges *sniff*

actually i do like being proven wrong, who wants to go through life with erroneous information? keep those corrections to my mindset coming. although my paying attention is pretty hit and miss.
1456  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 16, 2020, 12:03:29 PM
Well it's one thing for financials institutions to have your transaction history and it's another when marketers do. Plus i'm not sure if it's a one time thing or they continue pulling/monitoring your transactions indefinitely? Then when those databases leak online and we can see all of your transactions history for past X years you can't bitch at anyone because you gave away your creds yourself.

well i did change the password to the bank account immediately after, fwiw. and you do make a good point about marketeers vs the bank having that info. when all those transactions to that goat porn site come out i will be shamed, well unless sheep porn is mainstream at that point.

Privacy takes effort, you either go with the flow with the path of least resistance, or you use tor, private/incognito modes and drop facebook etc...

i was on the straight up internet before the WWW came along. dial up BBS, QWK mail (<- brad probably remember that), telnet, usenet, prodigy etc. back then noone (well not my feeble brain anyway) thought the privacy thing through at teh time. i mean we use real names.

by the time online privacy became an issue it was far far to late for me and the clubs/peeps i hung with.
1457  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 16, 2020, 11:51:04 AM
I also remember something like this (also in 2017 or so), which was unusual. I wrote to them asking, basically, wtf?
The answer was that you enter the password on a special bank site, not on the Gemini site (all banks are integrated there) and the session is not recorded (right!!).
It is probably similar to how you can prove that the btc account is yours by signing a message.
Basically, they see that you were able to login, but they don't see the password as you login into your bank, essentially (or so they claim).
I think all they get from the session is the record that you were able to login into the account you claim to be the owner of.
The explanation was that this gives them confidence that the bank account is actually yours and you can control it.
I did it, but then had to wait at least 3 weeks for approval.
The only reason I initiated it in the first place was because at that time they had no limits (at least no discernible limits) on withdrawals and you can trade immediately after you initiate the deposit, which Coinbase did not have at the time.

Well you think wrong, care to try again? Don't think/trust, verify.

Though bitcoiners are not supposed to be so naïve, now you have to burn that account, then step away from your computer, pour gasoline all over it and set it on fire too!

well looks to me that gemini isnt that much better than coinbase after all. both sell out all your info. so whats the difference really.

dex is the way but here in the usa (land of the "free") i need a usa registered (read: dishonest and rotten to the core and in bed with everyone that pays) off ramp for my corn.

If you are unable to link your bank account via Plaid or prefer not using your online banking credentials to register your bank account, please exit the screen and navigate to Manually link bank and input your wire information. Once your bank account information is set up, you can complete the bank verification process with a successful wire deposit into your account.

or go the hardway and create a burner bank account like vapourminer

wonder if that was an option back in 2017.

either way i would rather have separate accounts for exchanges.

i figure at this point all my finances are well known to banks and whatnot anyway. they have too many ways to link everything anyway. not that i like that of course. and im no where smart enough to get around that stuff anyway.
1459  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 16, 2020, 02:24:49 AM

started a few years ago (in 2017) so dont remember much. (then) they wanted password access to my the back account i wanted to link to (!!WTF!!) which stopped me dead in me tracks till i could give them an account i wound up making specifically for them and let them have that.

FECKING PASSWORD ACCESS TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT?

Is that even legal? I bet most banks have a clause in their terms and conditions forbidding disclosure of your password to anyone.

yep password access. i checked if there was another way.. nope. so i just used an account just for them. its something i do anyway.. coinbase has a dedicated bank account too. i did change the password after of course but the whole thing soured me on gemini for years.. so i never funded gemini from that account account and left it inactive and abandoned till now.

mixing exchanges accounts with your regular accounts isnt a good idea anyway. dedicated accounts are the way to go.

edit: Biodom (above) has a better explanation. but yeah thats about it. i logged in in a special way. then they showed my account as verified later.
1460  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 16, 2020, 01:53:18 AM
to whom it may concern

yes yall have finally shamed me into finishing setting up the gemini account i started years ago...

What KYC do they want? Is it passport, bank statement and utility bill scans?

started a few years ago (in 2017) so dont remember much. (then) they wanted password access to my the back account i wanted to link to (!!WTF!!) which stopped me dead in me tracks till i could give them an account i wound up making specifically for them and let them have that. i dont recall anything else really aside from verifying email, legal address and phone number. dont recall uploading anything like an id.

my impression is they use the bank account as verification. if the banks thinks i me, they do too.

for the initial deposit it has to be a special wire transfer from the linked account. after that its all ach based.

now i remember why i blew gemini off for so long. coinbase was easy peasy compared to gemini
