Of course, if everyone just switched over to native segwit addresses they could save 50% on their fees. This would also have the added benefit of allowing more transactions per block too. Anyone out there who complains of fees and are still using legacy addresses deserve it.

ill keep my legacy addys for the most part. i dont care about the bigger fees (as opposed to segwit) as its generally just a small fraction of the overall amount transferred anyway. i try to plan ahead and liquidate what i think ill need in the coming timeframe plus a bit of slop just because i know im an idiot and like shiny objects.

but yeah this messes up small transactions but isnt that what L2 is for?

sorry for my olde skoole legacy fixation. just another hobby for me.

I'll close with my usual rainbow footers:

Sell only when you must.
Buy when you can.
Always aim to HoDL.

you forgot the most important things.. have fun and live well. the corn spent on your own self improvement most always pays big dividends.

Always make sure your house has a fireplace. Friend in Texas is -3 temps and no power. A miserable heat pump won't do squat in that case.

... right, doesn't need to be wood fire just something that burns, when all else fails the ancient way to combat ice is with fire

... diesel, oil, gas, propane, wood, plastic ... anything that burns to survive, fuck these greenie idiots who've never lived in a true time of want or need

we can always burn fiat

[re power shortages]

So possibly, Bawb can't post today, because he is looking for a way not to freeze his ass?
I hope he managed to sell his batch of coins, which he planned for today, iirc.
Prolly sell some more for investing in self sustaining energy sources on his future farm land would be a good idea?

i think he mentioned area already planned for solar arrays and some wind turbines.

a human being can stand a certain varying amount of psychological pressure. some days we are stronger than on other days. no matter how rewarding it may be to hodl bitcoin, it is stressful. it sometimes feels like going into a casino, put lots of money on "red" at the roulette table, winning it, but then decide to leave it all on red for another round... and another round... and another round   - a perpetual high risk/high reward gamble.

the stress takes its toll. and there are weak moments. and there is the mindrust phenomenon. i dont think anyone is immune to it. i had moments in the past 8 years where i just wanted to give up. not because the price dropped, but when the perspective of this perpetual super-stress will just stay that way forever got to me.

the combination of the best performing asset in the history of finance being also the by far most volatile asset in history is a heavy weight to lift.  we are not specially trained, hardened professional traders with balls of steel. most of us are regular guys who would have never chosen becoming traders. with selling the entire stash being just a mouseclick away, hodling btc is like trading - you choose not to sell, every new moment, every new day, every new wave of FUD.

We had no choice but to grow balls of steel ourselves. when your life savings can literally evaporate overnight, getting up in the morning, checking the price would be hyper stressful for a someone not used to it. it became routine for us. but it takes time for those balls to harden. and sometimes, for example when reaching a certain threshold money figure like $100 000 or even 1mio, even seasoned btc hodlers can experience high stress levels again.

a multiyear btc hodler is stress resistant as a human being could be. but it takes its toll.

jeeze, and i thought i was just being lazy af.

i suppose it helped that if even btc cratered i would likely still do ok. btc is the icing on the cake. much easier to observe it with (some) disinterest.      that risk no more than you can lose bit.

My first 300 baud modem didn't even connect automatically.

You had to listen for the modem at the other end and manually flip a switch.

my 1st 300 baud had the acoustic cups you put the phones handset in.

--------------

EDIT psycodad beat me to it mine was a hayes i think, still have it somewere

On some bbs' you had first to convince some mum or dad to put the handset on the coupler when junior was at school.

Though to be fair, it was much easier for combined use with the captain crunch whistle  Grin

Mine was a 2400 bps V.42bis modem. Fun times. BBS, FTP, terminal stuff. My parents' worst nightmare (phone line occupied 24/7).

Yes, same here with the phone line until my mother foudn out, if they use the phone to call someone, I was thrown out of my modem connection ... damn in the middle of an "important" download XD...

i had a 2nd phone line installed dedicated to the modem. made those 10+ hour downloads much easier.

If wealth taxes start being egregious, it might be time to consider an exit. Lots of countries where your money will go a long way.

here in the USA to renounce your citizenship (and thus never pay taxes to uncle sam again) you need to pay the exit tax on the entirety of your net worth. dont recall the percentage but 30% sticks in my head for some reason.

Then after Kamala, no chrome.

Why would you care anymore? That's the whole point of bitcoin.

The introduction of wealth taxes, and increasing capital gains taxes can take an even larger chunk of our bitcoin though.

much as i agree, its the price we pay to play legally. just need to price it in thats all.

There's about a million other forums out there for bitcoin/crypto and all of them are dead as dead can be. Nothing, no matter the software, will ever be the same as spending time where satoshi started it all Smiley

good enough for Satoshi, good enough for me. if it ever changed to other forum software i would freak out actually.

but, the one thing i would like to see here is yubikey 2FA. or 2FA anything really. with the reputations (trust scores), escrow folks, merit sources and such it kinda needs it imo. but im just a bloke in the peanut gallery so as long as i can throw peanuts im happy enough.

oh yeah and bring back that glowing ignore icon. i really miss that.

I don't think this changes my proven analysis one bit. The complicated math doesn't lie, and I'm as certain as ever bitcoin will be worth much, much, much less before the end of the year once this fever breaks.

*whew* glad my automated sells kicked in to save me.

i feel safer already.

Hi there,

What kind of MH does you get on ETH with a 1080ti? I am about to buy one in a few hours hoping it can do 50+

~47 MH/s with the pill

powerlimit 100%  - usually run at 70% but with eth the price it is right now  i went to full power.. pretty wasteful otherwise - and then +200 on memory and core

with tweaking maybe a bit more but 50+ really isnt in the cards anymore. imo.

anyone else have the problem of too many automatic sells popping off at the echanges you use? now i have to get rid of a bunch of fiat. oh man.. wadda drag.

guess i need to rethink my strategy as far as laddering sells. i had too many too close together.

work work work.. *sigh*
