It won't crash to 100 anytime soon, look at the trade rates in china. People buy BTC for almost 1k, now, there.

Anyone know if  it is possible for non chinese residents to use that exchange for buying or selling ?
2123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I'm boycotting bitcoins. on: November 18, 2013, 11:58:17 PM
Poor people in africa with smart phones are already conducting electronic transfer of funds to eachother, either with bitcoin or local currencies just like it.

Do some research.

Bitcoin is the Great Equalizer.

The very opposite of what you have presented.   The 6.5 billion other people with no access to bank accounts will, for the first time, be able to hold and transfer money.

The OP is right, apart from the sniping at stereotypes.  I'm surprised and slightly frustrated by the response because it really only reinforces the secondary point that its a toy for nerds.

Take this response above: the guy in Africa with a smart phone, power to charge it and a SIM is relatively wealthy to those around him and many others without the smart phone. Most of 6.5 billion people do have access to a bank account if only they had the cash and a completed bank application. To acquire a bitcoin they need the cash to buy equipment to access the bitcoin system.  there's a barrier to entry either way, only a technological barrier, rather than an administrative one.

You want to address this problem, you have to recognise it, and help make the equipment available - thats the difference that the bitcoin can have.  I'm surprised people dont see this and don't understand this, responding with hostility, or is it denial?  Huh

the scammers from nigeria and ghana can manage to access the internet to rob people and trick them into transferring money  for many years now
if they can do that they could also contact a bitcoin exchange and arrange  to buy a few coins

im sure banking regulations in africa are  not too strict either so anyone with some money could invest in btc

2125  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Dank on: October 10, 2012, 12:08:45 PM
On a related note:
Dank's guitar is painfully out of tune. Guitar tuners start at only $8 on Amazon.
Anyone volunteering to set up a donation address so we can buy Dank a tuner?

great!
another sock puppet suggesting free money for dank for another ridiculous reason

His suggestion is far from ridiculous. Using a guitar tuner is helpful for beginners who have not yet developed the ear necessary to tune without a reference.

right, the bitcoin community should finance him a guitar tuner because his guitar mp3s are painful to listen to
why not give him food stamps as well ?

wouldnt expect anything less from usual bunch of spitters and shitters @ intersango

Your problem is that you forgot to give him "fucking respect".   Wink

the only "respect"  i could give intersango would involve them getting on their  knees and swallowing it

2129  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bryan Micon's List of Bitcoin Scammers, Shills, and Users Not To Trust IMO on: September 20, 2012, 04:30:46 AM
BurtW . Gigavps , Imsaguy   Goat and many others  were basically telling people they knew it wasnt a ponzi and people were just not smart enough to understand how it works etc

go back and read the posts although many have been deleted and its clear that pirate was not the only one driving people into the ponzi

actually ,he had very little posts on the forum when the PPT guys were recruiting fresh accounts .........
2130  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Intersango Exchange on: September 18, 2012, 07:43:33 AM
Lots of BS can be eliminated by allowing funds in and out from only 1 bank account.
If you close your primary bank account, new account can be added and same rule applies. Probably some paperwork has to be produced to show, that account really is closed.
As simple as that. And guess what, it also adds an extra layer of security.

Does that still allow the scammer to arrange a bunch of individual sales, opening a new Intersango account for each one?  Each Intersango account only receives deposits from a single bank account that way, and business continues for the scammer as before.

Tow rules could be added to prevent this.

1. An IP can have no more than 1 account.
2. An account can only be accessed from the same IP as the signup, unless the account is verified, then the account holder could select to add more allowed ip's, or set 'no ip restrictions'.

Thus, to continue the fraud scheme, the fraudsters needed to verify each new account, and using new IP with each account. When victim deposits money, there could be an investigation because of unknown IP.

Measures can be discussed, and it's hard to find the perfect system, but it does seem to me that the Intersango team could not be arsed to put any anti-fraud measures in place. Perhaps they did, but I do not know about it and can only judge by what I've heard and seen, and it's not good.

online deposits to intersango would come from the banks ip ,the customer would innitiate it from his bank first
and they would dump the funds into intersangos

ip addresses are too easily manipulated anyway to rest security upon, especially in the uk where addresses are
dynamic and if using mobile broadband like 3g you get a differnt one every few minutes .........

thats without even using proxies or tor so the current system is fairly wide open to abuse
2131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 18, 2012, 04:54:19 AM
Give him a break everyone you saw him bet up to $800000 without demanding an escrow, on bets of bitcoin odds on him paying were 10/1 against him paying two weeks before. Why did it come as a surprise to anyone and why didn't anyone make a fuss about escrow when it was clear as day he wasn't going to pay!!!

At the end of the day he's not an asshole like pirate, fair enough he shouldn't of done it but he's an attention seeker not a bad man! Matt's lesson was stupid and pointless if you see something that looks like a scam I think you should call them out on it in the hope it saves people money, but the real lesson to be learned from all this is don't trust anyone with your bitcoins!

Lessons

-Don't join ponzi schemes
-Don't expect to get paid off someone that's bet nearly $1m on something stupid.

Dont trust anyone in the BTC community
Especially not members who hold "respected " positions and have been around for a long time

MNW is  finished after this, why are people even still talking about it ?
i start to wonder how many sock puppets with sizable post counts there really is because
noboby in their right mind would be talking about bring him back after doing this
2132  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why I trust Patrick Harnett on: September 15, 2012, 12:53:57 PM

but you go back to caling people rude instead of answering the real issues like if harnett can make so much
money why does he need to constantly borrow more Huh

Actually, WifeofStarfish doesn't need to defend me or my business, and she wasn't attacking people like the crap that's been thrown at her for attempting to be civil.  It's not necessary for her to explain, and my previous attempts to explain have been ignored or deliberately misconstrued.  AND pull your arse out of your ears, I haven't been taking deposits for weeks (demonstrating the trolls are not interested in what is actually going on).

she wasnt a bit civil so lets not pretend here ,joel asking the same questions were responded to with inults and personal attacks
go back and read them if you dont believe it

if you cant handle a few simple questions then your simply not fit to be holding deposits of other peoples coin

now your resorting to rudeness and insults so your not any better than meat puppet in arguing your case
2133  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why I trust Patrick Harnett on: September 14, 2012, 08:42:18 AM
So its easy to get these returns on paper as long as you naively assume almost everyone will pay you back, but the reality is likely a whole lot different. I will be very curious to see how much of his loans Patrick will be able to recover, considering how many of the people he totally trusted have already defaulted and/or are now branded as scammers.
Patrick scammed himself, unfortunately.

I think that's right.

My thoughts (not that anyone asked):

1. WifeOfStarfish reads like a sockpuppet to me. If I were Patrick, I'd not want to show this to anyone.

More like a meat puppet.

quoted for meat puppet LOL Cheesy

I'm a real person, married to Patrick and you are incredibly rude.

Regardless, you have no rights to attack people for questioning harnetts business practices
even if you are his meat puppet but from your posts you have done more to under mine starfish loans
than promote it
joel asked valid questions about the deal  and still nobody has answered them except trying to undermine
the credibility of joel which is silly since hes not running a shady operation with anyone elses coins

but you go back to caling people rude instead of answering the real issues like if harnett can make so much
money why does he need to constantly borrow more Huh

2134  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 14, 2012, 04:49:59 AM
Criminal Charges should be a last resort, as that leaves the least chance of getting any money back.

Civil Cases should be tried first and if all else fails and it's clear that we will not see anything back, then we feed him to the Government Agencies.

This won't help. No matter what *you* promise, someone else *will* instigate criminal charges later because it's easy to do. Hence the promise of letting him off easy if he pays back does not work.

A criminal case on the other hand may strengthen it because it basically is free investigation (and maybe intimidation).

Avoiding a criminal case now is a delaying tactic. Is that your agenda?

The fuck are the cops gonna do about it?

good news is since last weeks blackmailer of Mitt Romney demanded to be paid in bitcoins
i think every coffee drinkin do-nut consuming knucklehead on the force will have heard of
BTC by now
Next cop I see, I'm going to ask if he's heard of Bitcoins before.   Wink

hel probably ask you if youve heard of pepper spray before ? Cheesy

Hell no. Just suggesting he may be even more fucked than his investors. Or that it's possible that even if he is tracked down, there may not be any money there to recover. Not that he shouldn't be tracked down, of course.
From what I've seen and heard, I believe he got away with somewhere between $1 million and $1.5 million. But I suppose it could be anywhere between zero and $5 million. There's only one way to find out and that's to track him down.

short of beating it out of him theres not much anyone can do if he refuses to answer any questions  Roll Eyes

Wow has pirate said anything lately? lol

someone posted a recent IRC paste which said something like :

are the PPT owners that didnt comply going to get paid ?

and the answer was something like :

they will have to fend for themselves on the high seas  Cheesy.......... or something like that

i think i may have read it in the bitcoinmax thread but so many similar pirate threads thesedays .....Sad

2140  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: So when are we going to look into really finding Pirate? on: September 12, 2012, 04:06:13 AM
IMHO, either Pirate is Mr. Shavers or nobody is ever going to find himlook for him apart from a couple of people who searched on google   Roll Eyes

FTFY

as time passes this will just drift into the background and thanks to MNW 3 valuable weeks have been wasted which are arguably the 3 most important weeks following any crime to catch him

the more time hes got to distance himself from the money and prepare  hard luck stories the less chance anyone has of being repaid .............
