1521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to your Bitcoin should you suddenly die? on: January 26, 2015, 12:13:11 PM
It stays there forever, sorta like the Bitcoins on a wallet I forgot about on a Macbook that was stolen in 2010!

I would be a millionaire if I never had that laptop stolen!

and the thief probably doesnt even know he had millions of dollars in his hands at the time as well lol
probably some crackhead swapped it for a $100  since btc was worth hardly anything and nobody really knew about it in 2010
1522  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS threatens to kill 2 Japanese hostages unless Tokyo pays $200 million on: January 26, 2015, 12:03:35 PM
Japan' prime minister have to be careful in their political stand,
before shinzo abe as prime minister, they have changed many prime ministers in several years,
and their economies have been stucked in the past 20 years.
Hence, they will be blamed for any rash actions.

do you honestly think if they killed ISIS terrorists anyone would care ?
japan and the rest of the world should make it rain fire on that place as soon as the other hostage is either
released or confirmed to have been killed

1523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who cares if Bitcoin goes mainstream? on: January 26, 2015, 11:58:08 AM
Bitcoin has to be more radically accepted for it to be a currency. No point having 50 bitcoins if you can't buy a bag of chips.

do you mean like 10,000 btc for a pizza ? Smiley
1524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How significant will Death be to the price of Bitcoin? on: January 26, 2015, 11:51:53 AM
Sucked you in,  Grin Its a serious question though.

How much Bitcoin is likely to become stranded in accounts because of users deaths? I imagine a lot, more than people have given it worthy of discussion. I bet a lot of holders if they got hit by a car and died would have no one to find their coins online...including their wives. Plus you got a lot of single guys using Bitcoin who aren't going to have a spouse to trust with their passwords etc even if they thought about it.

I would also add coins simply lost by people or forgotten. I personally have a bunch of tiny amounts of Sats in temporary addresses I made for different purposes, only worth a dollar or two but they must add up.  Add to that on purpose burning of coins and I wonder if we will even have any Bitcoin in 30 years.  Cheesy
A lot of millionaires, politicians and mafia die with a lot of their money in their backyard. Probably the same for bitcoin..
I would consider loss of bitcoins in the early stages more, as people might never have thought of price going so high before, and might have lost it in HD crashes etc.

how about satoshi and the first million coins ever mined  ? if hes already dead or didnt bother to save the private keys those coins are lost forever
potentially billions of dollars worth Sad
1525  Economy / Speculation / Re: Coinbase announcement on Monday on: January 26, 2015, 11:49:37 AM
Well, Coinbase announced their API. It's straightforward REST/JSON. There's a discussion on Hacker News. They're running on Amazon AWS, in the US East zone. They recommend that trading 'bots also run on AWS in that zone for reduced latency. Initially, there will be no fees, but later, fees will be imposed for transactions which "reduce liquidity" (i.e. are executed immediately). Putting up walls is free.

It looks like they're setting themselves up for high frequency trading. They may have huge volume, but it will be the same money going round and round.

They claim to be "licensed" in at least New York and California, but they're not on the money transmitter lists for either state.

Any opinion on this?

https://docs.exchange.coinbase.com/#currencies

Will they add alts?

Will be nice to have altss on there as well. We need a proper regulated legal exchange for alts too.

alts should be traded for btc now and discontinued /
1 international currency is the ultimate goal and btc is where the big money and development  is
alts are just a distraction to new comers who will take long enough to get a basic understanding of btc without having 600 other shitcoins being pumped at the same time

the decimal point can be moved at any stage long before there are a shortage of coins
just because we divide a coin in 1.0000000 now doesnt mean it has to stay that way
could easily divide it into smaller units again
1527  Economy / Speculation / Re: If you are waiting for the "despair phase" to buy like in 2011 consider this on: January 26, 2015, 11:39:30 AM

Wrong. Who compares the Tulip mania with Bitcoin have no idea what they are talking about.

When you talk about tulips, you could plant them anywhere and as much as you want, therefore you would have an unlimited amount of supply.

So when the price went up, the farmers and who ever was in the industry started making crops of tulips like if there was no tomorrow.

The result was that the market was flooded with tulips and therefore the price collapsed to 0.

Now, when you look at Bitcoin, it is not like that.

First you cannot "Plant" as many coins as you want, second the mining reward halves every 4 years, which makes it more and more scarce every 4 years.

Thats the beauty of Bitcoin, its supply is mathematically controlled, there is no way to escape it.

If you are now in your mid 20s and you want a good retirement in 30 years, just buy now $1000 worth of Bitcoins, thats all you need.

Sit back, relax, and watch history being made.

Thanks Satoshi.

$1000 is 3.3 btc
who wants to wait 30 years to retire  wealthy ?

buy a few more ,no ?
1528  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS threatens to kill 2 Japanese hostages unless Tokyo pays $200 million on: January 26, 2015, 11:04:40 AM
The Japanese should reply, like any other country should that has hostages taken by isis, if you harm any of our ppl, we will send dozens of fighter jets and thousand of troops into your area and fight against you. That should be done.

Yep, that would be the ideal case, unfortunately I haven't seen any country sending thousands of troops after ISIS killed their citizens.

thats because western countries dont have any ballz anymore

if they were killing russian hostages and were "negeotiating" with vladimir putin i
think he would make an example out of them .....might not save the hostages but
im sure the ISIS guys wouldnt get to do it twice Cheesy

I wouldn't risk to make such a large transaction with cash. For that kind f money, some people could try to set up a fake wallet...

how would a fake wallet work then assuming the deal is done in person at a police station
or in a bank etc to negate the risk of robbery by either party ?

save the wallet.dat file in at least 3 places  before you delete  anything

then re-install a fresh wallet and import the wallet.dat file into it

Invest early on and let compound interest do the rest. It does not take much early on to get a sizable amount by the time you reach retirement. Of course, the later you start to save, the harder it will be for your money to grow.

The problem with the majority nowadays is the lack of discipline to save.

1538  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to retire on $100,000 on: January 26, 2015, 09:28:38 AM
A better option would be to rent both the two houses and you'd move to cheaper countries, either to Africa, Asia or central/southern america, and live above standard average people living there.

The real problem is if tenants, for some reasons, stop paying you

Other problem. Might be if he can't find tenants to Stay in the houses etc....
Property bubbles burst all the time and people are left kinda screwed

You suggest getting cheap  properties which will then not be in prime rental locations so you may not have tenants a year around etc... Or you may have to reduce the rent if there are too many similar  empty properties on the market....
A lot of variables to consider but if the house gets trashed by bad tenants, burglary, fire etc or they stop paying the rent and you live in another country are you going to fly across the world every time there's a problem or pay an agency a % of the rent to manage the tenant's?

Many things can eat into your profits
1539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah Scam on Mintpal - MintpalJustice.com - Report Missing Funds on: January 26, 2015, 08:41:22 AM
Why is this thread dying did ppl just gave up their money?  Undecided

here are a couple reasons:

1) the badguy is caught and now in the hands of the justice system
2) its highly unlikely that anyone will see any money back, far less likely that a substantive number will get anything meaningful like 25% of their funds
3) too many people forgive and forget far too fast
4) that's old money, they are chasing new money be it here or elsewhere
and
5) many people just had enough, enough of the scams, enough of the losses, and enough of the wickedness ... many left crypto, not stricktly because of this but for many this was just the last straw.

Look, BTC was twice as high as it is now when this occurred even if they got all of their money back it would be worth half as it was when you lost it.

The guy lucked out because if someone killed him earlier on the whole CC industry would be far more improved because at that to point some operators would know that you can't just ripoff people wholesale and expect to get away with it like what occurred in the past.   but nope, same old, same old ...

if anyone should be killed for scamming its got to be karpeles first
if he gets away scott free with almost a billion dollar crime then what this mintpal asshole did looks like nothing .........

edit: who says hes already in the justice system ? where and when was he arrested and what exactly were the charges ?
(in the uk a 5 million dollar hacker arrested will always make the newspapers and i havent seen it yet )

Exactly, had Karpeles paid the ultimate price for his foolish deeds I'm sure Green would not have been so quick to follow his lead.

As far as Karpeles is concerned, 20 years in a fed prison (if convicted of anything in any country) is nothing he'll be 50ish when he
gets out with boat load of money.

As for Green, yes he's in the justice system, not the criminal justice system but the civil justice system.

Like I said all of the madness slows to a crawl once the industry make is perfectly clear it will not tolerate wholesale thievery.
Until then don't look for refunds.

They should all be held accountable. Including Boffin.  Where the hell did the Boffin go? Do the courts not care that he negligently, knowingly and willingly registered american companies and accounts in his name and encouraged investors into what was a scam, with 0 due dilligence.  This guy deletes his reddit account and dissapears off the grid and everything is okay?

yes, that's what happens when you don't want gov't interference until you get rob.   The CC industry must decide to govern itself or allow for 'normal' regulatory intrusion.

some people are just way  too  trusting...........i know people who been using btc since near the early days that
have never been robbed or scammed or lost a single satoshi ....by taking very basic steps in wallet security

the important thing is to remember you are your own bank ,you have to protect it yourself and dont give anyone else the chance the
to rob you or hack your coinz

nonsense

any time you download a file, or sign up for any CC related service you put your funds at risk

if your funds are not located in a cold storage multi-sig wallet with pvt keys distributed in multiple places your funds are not secure.

Why would the Majority of your wealth ever be at risk  or out of  " cold storage "?

Take some responsibility to Keep it safe or face the consequences....  Your choice kid Smiley
1540  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to retire on $100,000 on: January 26, 2015, 06:32:38 AM
...And? You can retire on $10,000 in some places, even $1,000 in others.

I don't think it's possible to retire on $1,000 or even $10,000 in any developed country in the Western world. Many people seem to think that you need a million dollars or more to retire hence why I made this thread. Virtually anyone living in even the most wealthy countries can retire after 3-5 years of saving money if they wanted to. It surprises me that most are unaware of this.
A million  Roll Eyes I've never heard of anyone with that much, and I know a number of old people, even if you count the value of all their possessions.
If you have your own house with a garden, even a sum of $50,000 should be enough.

nobody in relative youth could retire on 1k 10k 50k or even 100k
sleeping in a  park you would spend that much on cheap  fastfood every day in a year or two
and you health would take a nosedive as well so unless medical care is free your fucked anyways

you could live in a forrest and eat plants and berries for free but how many people would be willing to do that ?? Cheesy

I was talking about older people, not young ones.
If you have your own house with a garden and don't mind planting some vegetables, you could easily retire on $100k.

If I were to retire I wouldn't mind making my own food and working around the house. Things can get more expensive if you're planning to sit in the pool all day sipping whiskey.

what about when the car breaks down ? or the tv dies or the cooker or the refridgerator or you get a burst pipe and need to call a plumber in emergency
what about heating or aircon needing servicing ?
what about toothpaste and dental work or insurance costs
are you going to wear the same clothes you have now until you die ?
what about entertainment ?
no holidays or trips ever ?
you need some money for when shit happens ,because there will always be unexpected expenses here and there

i also like sipping whisky by the pool so its going to cost a bit Smiley
