1621  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: December 30, 2014, 07:37:43 AM
More than likely, he's trying to forget that this ever happened.

It's not easy to forget, especially now when it's cold outside.

He's already stated it was a spare house he inherited.... Why do people all assume he's living in  a cardboard box??

Is everyone here a pauper or something?
1622  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Blender, anonymous bitcoin mixer on: December 25, 2014, 05:23:54 AM
is it currently  legal or illgeal to own coins that were once used on illegal sites like silk rd etc ?

how can you prevent someone giving  you a batch of coins that were somehow linked to illegal  activity ?

a large percentage of  usd bank notes were tested postive for traces of cocaine etc  so they are linked to drug sales or use
but i guess those are ok since theyre legal tender and they cant stop people using using banknotes to snort coke

i imagine a large % of the btc in circulation have been either on darknet sites or mixed with coins that have been on darknet sites in
places like gox or btc-e so they maybe partially illegal coins ?

if i sell my house etc for a few thousand btc that were linked to bitcoinica  ,btcst ponzi , or silk rd or mintpal scams can these coins be seized as proceeds of a crime ?

if coinbase are seizing accounts based on tainted  or suspicious coins ,can we still trust coinbase ?

Not Bitcoins, but you can this new alt coin:

http://www.mangocoinz.com/

Works off your phone's accelerometer, so if you run in place, shake it, or move alot, you'll see the coin amount go up.

Thats actually hilarious as a concept. I love it.
Of course, I see absolutely  no way that sort of "proof of work" could be secure, but hey, who cares.

tie your phone to a hyper active dog and youl be rich in no time ..........
1624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: December 24, 2014, 08:13:09 AM
when we move away from  thinking in "whole bitcoins" to  mbits or satoshis i think the rise will be fast and furious ........
also when the next block reward halves the coins in existence will become much more valueable and sought after

combine that with more merchants/retailers/services  accepting them and easier faster  ways to "spend"  and store them
and i think the potential is near unlimited

there are too many variables to predict the price will be $$$$$  on any certain date but one thing i do believe is coins are only going to get more
expensive
1625  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to store your Bitcoin in a safe way? HARDWARE WALLETS! on: December 20, 2014, 09:40:24 AM
i made a little overview about the existing hardware wallets:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=899253.0

Trezor is only 6th in your list?

Maybe because its overpriced compared to the rest?

Not sure if it's tradeable at Cryptsy or an exchange, but there's been a little buying and selling in the Alt section.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with it.

Mining at home (for profit) is essentially dead.  Mining for hobby is alive and well, just make sure it's cheap and uses very little electricity.  Just don't expect to make anything of significance, and you should be fine.

Interessting , and thanks for all your answers guys.

Well my PC can't mine a thing , Performances are too low , but I heard there is special USB's to mine with them ? dosen't matter the PC performance to use them ? or it still does and how much is the BTC you can earn a month. and if someone could link me to them on Amazon or something that would be awesome

It will takes years to solve a block if  you ever get one at home with an old pc

Better just buy the coins Imo than try to mine at home now

You could be right.  Could drop even lower.  I watched bitcoin rise to $1 (when I was getting more than 10 a day mining with video cards), drop from $30, rise to a bunch more, drop, rise to over $1200 then oscillate to where it is now. Was fun to give a dozen coins to family and friends when they were worth $100 and see them ask if I wanted some back when they rose to $1200.  I think it will rise again.  I will HODL.

All the reasons that brought the price from 0 to 1200$ are here and more.

1629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I invested in bitcoin on: December 19, 2014, 06:37:40 PM
I invested and am invested in Bitcoin, because I personally know how it is to get screwed over by the existing banking, credit, and financial systems in place.

Whether it be getting declined for a loan with a major bank that I've banked with over a decade even an above average credit rating, or getting tacked on annual fees on my credit cards at a drop of a dime, continuously getting sent new Debit and Credit cards due to being "compromised" or someone trying to steal my identity....just a plethora of reasons.

Once I learned, read, and found out about Bitcoin, the light bulb lit up in my head, "This is the way money should be in this day and age."  No interest rates, No APR's, No ARM's, No chargebacks, no fraudulent charges I have to dispute, no waiting 3-4 days for charges to go through, no credit scores, no ATM fees, no checking and savings fees....

I still have fiat and savings, but the percentage of my investments and net worth is sliding over to BTC at a rapid rate.

1630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I invested in bitcoin on: December 18, 2014, 07:39:54 PM

Because ultimately I don't know the risk. I don't know where its going,Don't know where it even came from.

Smart investors have risk management, investing in something you do not know is a bad investment.

bitcoin has a lot less risk compared to 12 months ago.

Research your investment so you can promote it and bring in other investors, such as merchants, consumers etc

this reduces your risk as well

none of the early adopters knew and yet they mined and traded ,
some cashed out at 10 ,20 .50 ,100 ,500 ,1000 etc and made a " good return" on their investment without fully knowing where it would go

people  who bought  into google ,ebay ,apple or facebook in the 90s etc probably never knew the returns would be astronomical
because it hadnt been done before

part of invesating in anything new is theres an element of  risk but the rewards can be 100's x times your investment  back

if you cant deal with any risk find a bank or trust  and make 3-8% a year
1631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: December 18, 2014, 06:48:02 PM
I am not very 'wealthy' or 'elite' these days, but the future could still be bright. Set exciting goals and never give up.   Smiley

Having 20-50BTC will be enough to feel like you made a good investment when the price will jump. It obviously all depends on your standard of livings but tens of BTC will be enough to feel good if you are middle class in a first world country Wink

Having 20-50 BTC is huge. In future new people hearing about Bitcoin will ook in awe at those who has this amount.
Bitcoin has barely started, its still the early days.

the sooner items are priced and traded for mbits the better imo
1632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: December 18, 2014, 04:53:28 PM

Thanks for lolz Smiley

This thread is going to be around for ever, but I really do believe that one day this thread will coem true for many of us here. As others have said, just have patience and enjoy the wild ride in the meantime.

People who rode the early waves were buying champagne and Lamborghinis this time last year......

I made a lot myself  but I also think there is a lot potential still unrealised  so there is still ...... Imo a lot more to be made Smiley

If we are patient

1636  Economy / Speculation / Re: Going to the real bottom! on: December 18, 2014, 09:11:40 AM
I don't know if you understand the advantages yet... 4.5 billion dollars is already  in this "thin air"  and its growing stronger every week

13 billion dollars was in it a year ago ... And it's growing stronger ...? The thing is imploding right in front of you, and you claim it's getting stronger?

Overstock admitted having a whopping FIVE international sales per week.

Not five hundred. Not five thousand.

FIVE.

5.

And that's one of the largest, most celebrated merchants "accepting" Bitcoin.

the every changing price of the coins themselves are not the bigger picture ,its the blockchain and the underlying  infrastructure that is the breakthrough you should be looking at
i guess some people just dont get it and probably never will ,go back to worshipping your paper money if that makes you happier

technology will advance whether you like it or not because there are many  people like me who are unsatisfied with the current state of affairs .....
1637  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to store your Bitcoin in a safe way? on: December 18, 2014, 08:07:31 AM
That's pretty cool.
For now im sticking to a offline wallet stored on a flash drive in a firesafe.

You should have more than 1 of those, flash memory fails regularly

I have between 20-30 copies of my main bank (wallet)  so the odds of losing every backup in say 10+ years is quite slim

Except if they are all stored at home, someone could target you and steal it all from you then ask for a ransom for you to have them back.

Store copies of the wallet file everywhere you can,
Nobody can do anything with it without the private key
(store that in your head or separate location )

If  your super paranoid about it, double or triple encrypt the wallet file etc
1638  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good point to freak out would be ... on: December 18, 2014, 07:40:40 AM
In other words,

Abandon ship!

Kidding kidding, op has a point tho. When ppl go panic btc will be buried to the magma. Why? Cause its not backed by anything, but ppl's trust.

BTC is a "trustless"  system
You don't need trust when you have mathematics
It will be used regardless in some areas whether it gets lethal approval or not in every country
1639  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good point to freak out would be ... on: December 18, 2014, 07:28:36 AM
Powerful people are trying to gain larger shares of something they see will be huge in the future of finance

Not really different to every other market, scaremongering is a popular tactic to make people sell but it will not affect everyone thankfully, just the daytraders making noise at this point and tbh they're just fighting over the crumbs compared to the real wealthy individuals  in btc
1640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The sad truth about Bitcoin on: December 18, 2014, 07:23:01 AM
As we can clearly see it has not been a good investment this year.  Rich people threw a lot of money at them as some sort of get even richer scheme.

2014 a Bad year for BTC investment for what specific reason? The 2014 Average is 3x higher than the 2013 average. The market price right now as it is dropping is still almost 2x above the 2013 average.
You are kidding right? All that matters to anyone that gets paid in bitcoin is the value of the bitcoin at the time they were paid and the value of bitcoin now (or when they exchanged it for fiat or goods if they have already done so). Someone that is trying to make a living is not going to care about any kind of average

The price of Bitcoin will drop to 30-50 USD within the next year.  Bitcoin is about to take another serious nose dive.

Would you care to make a wager on that?  Smiley
I would match any amount of Coins you put up that you're wrong, we can use a trusted escrow if you want to hold  it lol
