1441  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: January 29, 2015, 01:00:10 AM
everyone keeps talking about "he will be rich when" "He will be wealthy" blah blah

we don't even know if he kept the coin he could have sold it buy now.

if he was living off of his fathers inheritance and squandered it on bitcoin he would have to sell the bitcoin to make back some money.
Not many people could thug it out in a crack house working at ben and jerry's while they have 600 bitcoin that they sold their home for.

He's got another house and most likely a job as well
1442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Winklevii will become one of great capitalist barons of this century! on: January 28, 2015, 04:55:19 PM
The Winklevoss twins have a track record of betting on the wrong horse.

What were those wrong horses?
They trusted Zuckerberg to code their social network ConnectU, he betrayed them and ran away with the idea: fail.
They invested in BitInstant but it went bust as the founder got prosecuted for money laundering: fail.
They are starting an official bitcoin exchange but it's already too late because CoinBase has the first mover advantage and backing from NYSE: fail.
They invested millions over millions in Bitcoin without realizing that it is crippled by technical limitations and already earmarked for replacement by newer and better technology: fail.

The only mistake they made was to trust Zuckerberg when they were teensgers imo
They have amassed a fortune already, more money than most people will ever see in their dreams

1.2 million Facebook shares -  win
1% of the total btc -  win
Their own regulated exchange -  win
First btc etf (if approved)  - win
Made money from bitinstant but avoided the legal issues unlike Charlie - win
They also have tens of  millions of dollars in cash if not hundreds so even if everything imploded tomorrow they would be fine - win

Seem to be doing OK for a couple of young guys.... But I'm sure you could do it better, right?

elite uni - win
gold medals - win

...
I just looked them up on Wikipedia. They don't seem to have done anything besides Facebook and winning a gold metal.
I expected more ...

ROFL

T ell us What have you done then ? Cheesy
1443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Full Node on: January 28, 2015, 03:33:13 PM
You should run a full node onnly for support the bitcoin network, you don't have any other advantage.

I'm confused, don't you receive the tx fees?  Huh

No only the mining pool received the TX fees , it is a PoW coin not a PoS coin .

I thought only lightweight nodes and asic miners need a central server or pool. Full nodes should connect directly to other nodes.

 Huh

OK, I've looked it up:
transaction fees of a transaction can only be collected by including it into a valid block. And to be able to include a transaction in a valid block you have to mine a valid block. If you would mine one block, you could collect the fees, but nowadays nobody does solo-mining I guess?

it is worth running a full node to keep the network strong if you can leave your computer on 24/7 and connected to internet

plenty of people still mine at home but you need decent hardware to make it worthwhile and cheap electric ,a cpu or gpu mining  would be losing you money thesedays i would imagine unless your power is free

1445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: briefcase full of cash on: January 28, 2015, 02:09:46 PM

...and the police dont steal your money unless you have done something wrong and they can prove that  Cheesy

Wrong. If you have a large amount in cash, that's a proof on itself (for authorities) that it may come from illegal activities. It can be seized and you'll have to prove it was legit to get it back.

'Innocent until proven guilty' doesn't work in this case.

Here's some random article about the subject:

we dont all live in murica ...........Wink
1446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: briefcase full of cash on: January 28, 2015, 01:27:58 PM
I wouldn't risk to make such a large transaction with cash. For that kind f money, some people could try to set up a fake wallet...

how would a fake wallet work then assuming the deal is done in person at a police station
or in a bank etc to negate the risk of robbery by either party ?

When you have a briefcase full of cash, a police station is the last place you want to go. There's a 100% probability your money would be seized. Even a bank isn't safe. In most countries nowadays, banks aren't comfortable handling large sums of cash. Only Switzerland remains safe.

maybe they do  that where you live but in my country you are free to bring bundles of cash into a bank ,use the automatic counting machines and then give it to someone else etc and the police dont steal your money unless you have done something wrong and they can prove that  Cheesy

question: if floyd can beat manny easily, then why he cant accept the fight?  Cheesy im going for manny Smiley

manny is always dangerous but i think floyd will stay away from his power  and win by  points decision
,george foreman used to say any man with 2 hands has a chance to win  Smiley
1449  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or stockmarket? on: January 28, 2015, 11:46:05 AM
Well you also can count on stocks like CocaCola, Apple or Microsoft to continue gaining strenght over years.

Why would you assume that? What percentage of fortune 500 companies maintain dominance today vs 50 years ago?

Most People would laugh at you if you suggested Kodak would need to file for bankruptcy 20 years ago.
Look how quickly history has unfolded though and how a small finish company out of nowhere was able to outsell cameras within 1 year.
Yup, but we are talking at least 10 years in time and monopolies of CocaCola as king of drinks and Apple and Microsoft as king of computers have 0, 0, absolutely 0 real competence. Pepsi? Linux? Lol, not gonna happen. These are safe.

i thought pepsi co. was already worth more than coke ?
but i cant drink pepsi ,il always go for coke if theres a choice Smiley

Investing in coke was a great investment in any previous decade.

pepsi market cap 145 Billions, coke 185 Billions

very interesting reading :
Coca-Cola has a market capitalization of $170 billion. PepsiCo’s (NYSE: PEP) is almost $127 billion. PepsiCo’s revenue was $66 billion last year. Coca-Cola’s was $47 billion. A deeper look into the two companies shows the valuation debate gets even more confusing.

1450  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: January 28, 2015, 11:23:03 AM
... and yes, it is an investment

At least that's what you Beanie Babies Bitcoin enthusiasts keep telling me.  I guess you're right.  Technically... Undecided

Yes, tecnically and practically  Grin

648 BTC x 260.41 = 168 745 $

if you did that yesterday it would have been around $310x 648btc= $200,880
i dont see what you guys get out of shitting on this guy

he will be richer down the road ,hes hardly going to sell at the lowest price points of the year
when hes got another house to live in anyway

plz dont quote lambchop ,i have him on my ignore list Smiley
1451  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Rick Rolled by Coinbase, so I went to look at their local beautiful SF office... on: January 28, 2015, 11:15:43 AM
have you  worked out any estimation of how much you lost ?

IIRC the news was already out on sunday that they were opening the first regulated exchange in 24 states (but it didnt say which ones )

i dont think you can blame them because the price didnt go to  the moon ,it takes people time to trust a new service

IF its good ,it will gather momentum as more people use it and then comes the snowball effect in time

it could be $500 in a month or two

1452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to your Bitcoin should you suddenly die? on: January 28, 2015, 07:56:48 AM
what if the email gets eaten by spam filter and recipient never recieves it

1453  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to retire on $100,000 on: January 28, 2015, 07:28:46 AM
Honestly I wish I could find a reasonable house for $50,000 in my state. I only found one that was all broken down.

1455  Economy / Gambling / Re: Place your bets here Mayweather vs Pacquaio on: January 28, 2015, 07:22:18 AM
They are both past their best (5 years I reckon) , it will certainly go to points as neither knocks anyone out anymore.
I will take Pacquaio by close decision, leading to Mayweather vs Pacman 2, which is good for both of their wallets!

floyd will never agree to a loss ,he wants to retire -unbeaten-
hes not going to take the risk of being knocked into next week trading punches with manny
i think if it happens ,it happens in vegas and mayweather wins on points ......
1456  Other / Off-topic / Re: Age of bitcoin users. on: January 28, 2015, 06:47:24 AM
I'm curious about the age of bitcoin users. Post your age!
Being rich could be fun  Tongue

1457  Economy / Gambling / Re: Place your bets here Mayweather vs Pacquaio on: January 28, 2015, 05:45:31 AM
Thanks for asking I appreciate that, and that reminds me. They haven't signed the contract but they did exchange a few words so I think its for real this time  Wink

http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshh0czDE77PKlIDzM6T

I say floyd is going to win 100% won't bore you with my elaboration.

floyd will win a boxing match by running away on points
if it ever turned into a fight manny would rape him but i dont think floyd would ever fight mannys style

A win is a win.

only on the scorecards .......floyds a coward
1458  Economy / Gambling / Re: Place your bets here Mayweather vs Pacquaio on: January 28, 2015, 05:22:16 AM
this fight should have happened 5 years ago
manny had a few bad knockouts since floyd been avoiding him and i dont think hes in his prime anymore
1459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: - on: January 28, 2015, 05:15:29 AM

1460  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Rick Rolled by Coinbase, so I went to look at their local beautiful SF office... on: January 28, 2015, 05:12:10 AM
if theyre not there because of security issues i might understand it since they hold  180,000 btc which is well worth stealing  ?

Someone takes their troops up a huge high rise in the heart of San Fran in the heart of the Financial District and expect to get out without a small medium war going off?

That's why you get the office in the Financial District and not Oakland...

SF Financial District doesn't have half hour police response time and most buildings have a security guard or concierge.

banks and jewellery stores have been robbed for a lot less in the past ...........
have you tried their email or telephone to see if anyone can answer whats up ?

What am I going to do call them up and asked them:

And any other question you care to ask.

if i lost money yesterday  i would call their number to see if its fake too .........
i am not defending their shady practices at all

if they are doing something wrong then it should be brought to peoples  attention
but are you saying all the pictures are fake ?

this is big news if its true Cheesy
