2141  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone have experience with preorders from Brokers/Vendors on: September 11, 2021, 08:29:26 PM
Does anyone have experience buying from Pre-orders from re sellers?

I am looking at buying a pre order from https://akminer.com/about-us for delivery later in the year.

I have not used this website before, but akminer.com is owned by a trusted seller in the telegram community that goes by the name "Joyson Hu", their telegram is (@akminer). so it checks out as far as I am concerned, but of course, you trade at your own risk.

2142  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help Making S19 Quieter on: September 11, 2021, 12:44:54 AM
Why are placing the miner in the middle of the room? you want to exhaust duct to be as short as possible, post a clear image of the whole set-up showing the end of the intake duct as well as the exhaust, keep in mind that the S19 is nothing like the S9, and these APW12 PSUs are very sensitive to both voltage and heat, so even if the chip temps are good but the PSU is warm to touch, then you still have problems.

Eventually, I believe you will end up having an inline fan which itself will be making some noise that you might not like, any of these cooling methods are effienct enough, why? because these gears were not meant to run quiet, have you considered immersion cooling?

Core Scientific doesn't say anything about hashrate but:

I found something

Quote
When added, these S19J and S19JPro mining units will bring the total 19 Series computational power hosted with Core Scientific to over 18.1 exahash.

This includes all orders CS made, which is a total of 188,824 S19j and S19 pros, keep in mind that they don't actually have these gears up and running, they are slowly getting them as they come, I found no exact date for when the last gear will be delivered but CS said:

Quote
With that purchase, Core Scientific’s total equipment on-order would amount to 188,824 units expected to be delivered throughout this year and next year.

This means this will be probably be completed by end of next year judging by the size of the order.

So all these guys combined make a little less than 30EH, of course, some of them will expand by 2022, but the 30EH is already accounting for full delivery for CS huge order, since there are probably a few other larger players out there, we can speculate the total these guys combined will have by the end of 2022 will be roughly 50EH and what they actually now is around 25EH?

Honestly, these numbers are larger than what I thought would be, but still, they are not even close to owning half of the hashrate, I still believe the vast majority of hashrate is owned by other small companies and individuals, with many of them who have no clue about what they are doing and will be eaten by these large guys pretty soon.

With that being said, no matter how much money these guys can afford to pay, the already so huge network size and the production capacity will keep the difficulty from going up in parabolic, once we hit 200EH which we got very close to back in May, CS will need another 500MW and nearly 200k miners just to bring the difficulty up a modest 9%, which is why I don't worry much about newly added gears more so than what is actually happening with nearly 80EH that went offline from May to July.

2144  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 120v to 220v on: September 10, 2021, 10:37:21 PM
I think you can run a miner at 120v but you couldn't run all of your hashboard only 1 or 2 hashboard that I know success mining on 120v.

Maybe an S9 with two boards or 3 boards underclocked to below 1000w using APW7 PSU, but most if not all of the miners that came after that require 220v-240v and won't operate at 120v even without any hash boards installed.

Quote
So you would need a step-up transformer to mine at 240v but I don't know if you could run at 24/7 I believe the lifespan of the step-up transformer is very short compared to installing a 220v

A transformer is "supposedly" built to run 24/7, but you are right, most of these commercial transformers are shit, and a solid transformer will probably cost a ton, but that still might be cheaper than installing 220v, he just needs to check both options and see what works best.
2145  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: September 09, 2021, 11:41:18 PM
Agree on this, with the mention that I think you overestimate the people who haven't done the math right.

Maybe you are right, I could be overestimating these figures, I just can't see why I shouldn't. lol, I mean I do believe that most folks do NOT run the math right when it comes to mining, it's not hard to see, people paid 15k for S19s, 22k for L3s to receive some time in the future, they are still paying 2.5k for a lousy USED T17, I can't help but think that these folks are doing the math in the strongest way possible.

On the other hand, I can't tell for sure if after a few months these decisions people make now will seem like they were the best to do or not, who knows maybe 4 months from now BTC will hit 150k and difficulty drops 40% and then paying 15k for an S19 pro won't sound anywhere near WRONG as it does now, everything is possible, but as it stands right now, and since I do believe difficulty will only go up while the price won't, I can't help but think that these guys will end up losing and leaving the game.

Also, I don't think these guys make up a tiny 1% or 5%, nop, I think they represent at least half of the miners on planet earth, the once that gradually will largely offset the new mining gears added by those large cooperations, speaking of which, has anyone done the math of the total hashrate that the likes of Riot own?

2146  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Be aware of fake firmware floating around. on: September 09, 2021, 07:33:25 PM
Just saw this today on Telegram:

The S19 pro is rated by the manufacturer for 110TH, and the S19j pro for 104TH...

Honestly speaking, if I saw this claim from a random person - I would think they are full of shit, but Marc however isn't a random person with no development history, I had plenty of interactions with him, and the firmware which he distributes (Vnish) is a solid firmware which I personally used on hundreds of mining gears, while I don't think he is lying about it, I will be very impressed and surprised if that was true.

80% more hashrate is just way too much, it MIGHT work under severely special conditions, and maybe for a very limited time only, air-cooling will most certainly not handle anything close to that and then the PSU will be the second main problem.

With that being said, time will tell ! .. personally, I am against overclocking of any kind, if anything, I underclock the majority of my gears for the good part of the year, and leave them at default when temps are low, to me with free power, my main priority is to keep the gears running for as long as possible, but for someone else they might want to take advantage of a difficulty drop / different power rate at different times/seasons, I don't judge people who overclock their gears, I just don't do it.

Along the lines of ^^ here is what can happen with aggressive over clocking:

That's a disturbing image that makes you want to underclock the heck out of your gears lol, I still remember when my small farm caught fire at the power panel, it was most certainly not fun to watch but to be fair, I believe most of these incidents happen mainly due to bad wiring/PSU/plugs and whatnot, more so than the overclocking effect itself, in other words, an overclocked miner with the perfect electricity setup (everything from wiring to PSU and all that) is less likely to catch fire than an underclocked miner with say loose plugs and smaller wire size than needed or a terribly build PSU.
2147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How do miners get transaction fees on: September 09, 2021, 02:21:38 AM
-I recall from MIT cryptocurrency lectures they say the difference in value goes to miners as a fee.
-Then I read this paper counting a fee UTXO out of every transaction (they are building equations according to this)

How are these different from one another? they both lead to the same answer, let's assume a block with 2 transactions

input 1 = 10
input 2 = 15
output 1 =5
putout 2= 10

First method :

fees = (input 1 + input 2) - (output 1 + output 2 )
fees = (10 + 15) - (5 + 10 ) = 10

Second method

fees = (input 1 - output 1) + (input 2 - output 2)
fees = (10 - 5 )  + (15 - 10) = 10

As far as speed is concerned, getting the SUM of inputs and outputs and performing a single subtraction would most likely be a lot more effienct than performing n number of subtraction and then getting the SUM of all of them, but will the number differ? NO.

Now, on how the miner gets the block fees, they get it as an output that has no input, if the total difference between inputs and outputs was 1BTC and the block reward was 6.25BTC a new output will be created out of "nowhere" with a total value of 7.25BTC, if the coinbase transaction contains only 1 address the whole 7.25 will go to that address and if it contains 500 addresses it will go to all of them according to how the miner actually wants.

So to sum up, the fees themselves are NOT outputs but when the block is mined the fees become a new output spendable by the miner.
2148  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any ideas why my S17 53th keeps showing 127 degrees and 0.00 hash? on: September 08, 2021, 11:40:16 PM
Seems to be running great now! No 127 degrees, so far it's 30 minutes with 40-60 degrees on all chips like before, and it seems to be ok, this is the longest it ran before crapping out on me.

I hope this isn't just a coincidence with your voltage becoming stable on random bases, but either way, should the problem appear again you have to measure the voltage, don't count on what your electrician tells you unless he is there measuring it live, get a plug and play voltage meter and measure the voltage consistently if it goes anywhere above 240v then that will likely cause issues.

2149  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: September 08, 2021, 09:55:31 PM
Middle June the Chinese drama was over, the hashrate bounced back between 18 and 31 by 6%,

Not quite like it, the drama is something and the actual drop is something else, the real drop in difficulty started exactly by the of may all the way to the end of July, the 19th of July marked the lowest difficulty, which means the Chinese were still in the game up to the point in time.

My point is that there are probably a dozen mining gears running at the edge of being profitably at current prices, old mining gears that were bought when diff was at 13-15 and the price was at around or above 40k, those folks running these gears at high power rates will soon be forced to shut down if difficulty keeps going up and prices don't.

The demand on S9s and other old gears was pretty high post the China ban, I was following the second-hand market very very closely, and it does seem like many people failed to run the math, they probably bought those gears under the assumption that prices were not going to fall and difficulty wouldn't go up as much, I am not convinced that all of those gears are running on cheap power, they will soon be making dust and will be forced out of the game.

Do I think that will have a larger impact than other effienct gears combining online? maybe it's not likely, in other words, I don't think we will see any large drop in difficulty, but those people being forced to shut down will somehow limit the difficulty spikes coming from other places.

Now my thoughts in regards to the price are that we won't be seeing any new ATHs any time soon, we won't have a happy year-end and prices will be either in the same range as they are now or much lower (20-30% lower), I have a feeling that many miners will be disappointed by the outcome of this year, especially those who bought mining gears recently, I sadly believe things will only get worse from now on, the great times are probably... over.

2150  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: September 08, 2021, 02:32:08 PM
people were mining at around 20T back in May and June and the price crashed several times under 30k

Different times - different people my friend, one of the reasons why I keep mentioning that it will be extremely difficult for all the ex-China gears to come back online is the power cost, back in May-June there were tens of thousands of mining gears running on Hydropower in Sichuan with power rates as low as 1-2 cents, do you know of any other place that has the same capacity and power rates? I don't.

This means your theory is likely invalid, the price decline post-China-ban will have a lot more impact on the hashrate, the higher the average power rate the stronger the effect of the price is, of course, that doesn't mean we will have a difficult drop because the price dipped 10% or so, but it means that with prices under 30K and diff over 20T, things won't be anything similar to May-June.
2151  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Where to fix your Asic miners. on: September 08, 2021, 03:29:28 AM
I sent an S17E to great voyage.  First they return shipped to the wrong address, they forgot the last digit of my address, so the address didnt exist.  It ended up getting shipped back to them and then they left it sitting in their warehouse for a week before shipping it again.  Then when i received the machine, it was in worse condition.  When I sent it in, 2 of the 3 hashboards were working.   after their "repair"  the machine would not boot at all into the operating system.  Pressing the IP Config button would not work, i could not get IP Reporter to detect an IP.  and the lights on the back were solid red and green.  Not to mention, the heatsink that had fallen off, was still lose!

I just shipped that machine to MYRIG in denver colorado.  Ive already accepted that this machine is a total loss, but if myrig fixes it, I have 4 more machines that need repair that I will send.  Since they have 2/3 hashboards working, I do not want to unplug them and risk shipping them to come back in worse condition.

The IP config button, in a nutshell, does exactly "nothing".

My guess is that they had it set on static IP on a different subject than yours, probably all you had to do was to reset the miner using one of the few methods available, the most effective would be Sdcarding the machine, but hey, even if that was the case this is still a terrible service, let alone the shipping issues you mentioned.

But why would you send a working miner for repair? just unplug the bad hashboard and send it, why risk 2 working hashboards and waste potential earnings? it's pretty easy to take them apart, if the repair service insists on sending the whole miner with an excuse that they don't have the control board and PSU required to test the dead board, you are probably better off not sending it to them in the first place.
2152  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Asics + 4G internet / Is this working? on: September 08, 2021, 02:53:57 AM
Average ping for pools in EU is 50-60. Germany/France/Italy less than 10. USA/Australia/China 200+

When you say "Ping" I suppose you mean ICMP packets, aka you go into CMD and type ping pool.com ?  that is actually somehow inaccurate as far as mining is concerned, what you need is "Stratum Ping", whereby you connect to the pool via Stratum protocol, initiates a login via the Stratum protocol and then receive the response from the pool, the round trip duration will be your accurate ping results.
2153  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Where to fix your Asic miners. on: September 07, 2021, 11:33:22 PM
It would be great to know how this is handled. 'After the repair' policy is something that is muddy at best, if at all.

That is a huge problem honestly, I don't know how these repair services handle this thing when it comes to Bitmain's 17 series, these gears are of very low quality, it will be hard to offer any sort of warranty given that fact that another chip might just fall/burn in just a few hours post-repair, they could tell you that if the same chip which they repaired fails again they will fix it for free but then who will handle the shipping cost and all the other expenses?

As they say "The devil is in the detail", and therefore, before shipping any gear for repair one must ask all these questions.
2154  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any ideas why my S17 53th keeps showing 127 degrees and 0.00 hash? on: September 07, 2021, 09:29:54 PM
I'm running it directly to a PDU on a 30 amp breaker like I always do on my 100amp service.

This is irrelevant to the question, it doesn't matter how you connect it, the AC voltage is what matters, these PSUs need a consistent voltage rate of 220-240v, they might survive a 200V but nothing below that, also above 240v is going to cause issues, you need to measure the input VOLTAGE and not the amps, the problem could be caused by something else, but everything as of now points to a power related issue, it's either a bad PSU or bad voltage.
2155  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any ideas why my S17 53th keeps showing 127 degrees and 0.00 hash? on: September 07, 2021, 03:46:09 PM
The weird thing about it is that the PSU

There is nothing weird about that, the s17 series are a piece of trash and you should expect everything. What is your input AC voltage?

2157  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin mining Infrastructure on: September 07, 2021, 12:38:29 AM
including setting up the bitcoin core daemon

You don't need that for mining, if you want to combine the "workload" or the "bandwidth" of all miners then you are going to need a "mining proxy" which has nothing to do with Bitcoind as far as your mining operation is concerned.

Where are you located? and What is the size of this operation? setting up 50 miners is not the same as setting up 500 of them, you need to be specific on what you are planning to do, or else, nobody can point you in the right direction.
2158  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any ideas why my S17 53th keeps showing 127 degrees and 0.00 hash? on: September 06, 2021, 11:44:37 PM
Code:
2021-09-02 16:20:19 temperature.c:695:get_temp_info: read temp sensor failed: chain = 0, sensor = 0, chip = 55, reg = 0
2021-09-02 16:20:09 temperature.c:695:get_temp_info: read temp sensor failed: chain = 1, sensor = 3, chip = 195, reg = 1
2021-09-02 16:20:10 temperature.c:695:get_temp_info: read temp sensor failed: chain = 2, sensor = 0, chip = 55, reg = 0

As the kernel log, it's not being able to read the temps out of these temp sensors, but the problem isn't exactly that, it's very unlikely for a temp sensor to break, in most cases it's actually a bad chip that tricks the firmware into thinking that issue with one of the sensors.

However, the above is valid when the error only shows for 1 hash board, but then you said the 3 hash boards were working fine and then stopped together, and since it's highly unlikely that ALL there boards will fail at the same time, this confirms Zeusbtc's tech's theory which suggests that in most cases when you get a temp error on all three boards it means your PSU is bad.
2159  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: September 06, 2021, 12:59:33 PM
The lack of difficulty increases is in part due to the chip shortage experienced globally. Mining manufacturers are unable to ship as many miners as they might otherwise be able to due to a lack of chips.

We have gone past this discussion months ago, it's no more relevant for the time being, all that really matters now is the speed of relocating nearly 40% of the gears that were running prior to the Chinese mining ban, what the manufacturers make or don't is too small to be considered against the already used gears that can be plugged in.
2160  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Brand new mining venture - electrcity costs at sub 4.5 cents but profit share on: September 05, 2021, 09:33:04 PM
I see two potential issues here, one is trust, with all due respect, it's unlikely for anyone to trust you enough to be a "partner" with you when you are located in a different country, which means you need to look for sponsors/partners within your area.

The second issue is t the climate. Humidity and heat are two things that asic miners hate pretty much, of course, if you throw enough money at it, it will be taken off, I mine in a very hot place during the summer, it's most certainly a lot hotter than your place, but humidity isn't all that bad, I control the heat by over-moving air in the farm and by downclocking the miners a little bit during the very hot days and it's working great so far.

However, I am no were near a  2MW capacity as that will be a completely different level, but again, with enough money, you can pretty much set it up easily.
