You guys been watching the pre-season at all?

I watched Minnesota @ Seattle, but that's all really.  I only kinda half-assed watched the games on Sunday, so I'm streaming the Niner's game right now.  I just want to see Lance play some more, because you never know if you'll get another chance.

BTW I thought they were supposed to whittle down the pre-season to 2 weeks, or am I making that up?

I think there was talk of that a couple of years ago, when they were tweaking the schedule.  One of the potential options was two weeks for pre-season and 18 regular season games.  I imagine it's still something the league would like to do some day.  It would make a lot of sense if they expand the league to 40 teams, add one to each division.

Hmm, never had any issues like that myself, and I use Windows also.

First things first: make sure to back up the "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Bisq\btc_mainnet" directory.  That's where all your critical information like payment accounts are stored.  Then uninstall bisq using the Control Panel > Programs and Features tool.  Then delete the whole directory where the bisq data lives, i.e. "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Bisq" and restart the machine.  When you reinstall bisq make sure to use the latest version, 1.9.12.  Older versions will no longer function since the latest upgrade.

After rebooting, then installing the new version, don't start bisq.  Copy the backup of the "btc_mainnet" directory back to it's original path, then start bisq.

247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: REWARD 1 BTC! Electrum wallet help me! on: August 12, 2023, 07:45:01 PM
When people are asking for help.
Step 1 google the addresses given to see how many times they have been passed around.

That's a good point.  I'll make sure to follow this advice in the future.  Offering a generous "reward" should have tipped me off as well.

What's amazing is that people actually pay for these wallets. What are they thinking?  Obviously they know nothing about bitcoin, and yet they think they're going to get rich by hacking some wallet that's available to everyone.  Don't they stop to think that maybe the bitcoin experts would have beaten them to the punch if this were remotely possible?
248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: REWARD 1 BTC! Electrum wallet help me! on: August 12, 2023, 04:50:25 PM
i did that, BUT it's wrong because my output paths don't match, neither does the private key to the address. I have to create a wallet with a withdrawal path suitable for a private wallet, because initially electrum creates it differently, I need m/0/58

Look dude, I don't want to call you a liar, but there're some significant contradictions in your story.  Either you totally flubbed your wallet file and your seed phrase (one or the other okay, but both?) or you forgot some extension word (unlikely since you're seeing transactions in the wallet without an extension) or, the most likely answer; you purchased/found/downloaded this file that was purposefully corrupted to make it look like it has some bitcoin in it.

If you have a private key that restores an address other than one you want restored, then you don't have the right private key.  It's that simple.  Going around in circles asking the same question worded differently won't change that fact.  You're not the first person here insisting he's had an obviously butchered file since it's creation.
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: REWARD 1 BTC! Electrum wallet help me! on: August 12, 2023, 04:03:11 PM
how can I restore my address with a balance with these data? My private key is from address p2pkh: and starts with letter K

If you have a private key then you can create a new wallet and import it through the process.  Open Electrum, then on the top menu bar click "File>New/Restore."  On the window that pops up, name your wallet, then click Next.  On the next page select "Import Bitcoin address or private key."  Enter your private key on the next page, click next and follow the prompts to complete the process.

If you already have a wallet that was generated using this method, you can add another private key with these stips: On the top menu bar, click on "Wallet>Private Keys>Import" then enter your private key in the popup window.

I've been avoiding this part of the forum all day long.  I wanted to get home and stream the match before I let you guys spoil my opener, but here I am writing this 5 minutes in.  I just want to take this moment to reiterate how much I hate Manchester City.  Why do I hate them so much?  Let me count the whys:

  • Haaland is a beast.
  • De Bruyne is one of the smartest ballers in balldom
  • Guardiola rocks the manliest of manscaping
  • The depth of their squad is enviable

These guys are the best at what they do.  I just can't help but hate them.

Just checked and my FF buy in still hasn't hit.

Then I don't need to bother checking mine.  I swear that was a good fee when I built the transaction.  I walked away from computer for a few minutes, and when I came back I noticed I forgot broadcast it.  Undecided

@gmaxwell,
Do you think this vulnerability had anything to do with the hack reported here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5461057.msg62602139#msg62602139

Th OP of that post claimed he used Bitpay's libraries, bitcore-mnemonic and bitcore-lib to create mnemonic phrase (which I assume is represented as a WIF master key.)  Do you know if these libraries rely on libbitcoin?
254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: REWARD 1 BTC! Electrum wallet help me! on: August 11, 2023, 04:18:01 PM
but when restoring via xpub and xpriv, I see the same wallet as from the restore seed balance 0 and a small part of my wallets with old transactions, all my wallets start from 1

If you're seeing some of the transactions, then you are likely on the right path here.  It could be that you're only seeing some of the addresses that have transactions because when you restore an Electrum wallet from seed you'll only see the first 25 addresses in the wallet.  To see the other addresses you'll need to increase your gap limit.  That might help.

Open your console and use this code to see 100 addresses.  Change the "100" to whatever number you want to increase the number of addresses visible.
Code:
[wallet.create_new_address(False) for i in range(100)]

Other than that, I think LoyceV is right, and you could have had an extra word or seed extension that you may have forgotten about.

256  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 10, 2023, 08:49:18 PM
While waiting for the time to pass until September, I started watching a pretty decent docuseries on Netflix called Quarterback. ...
Cool, will check it out.
I've heard good things about this, and I think maybe I've discussed this in this thread before, but the whole reason I've avoided it is because I absolutely can not stand Patrick Mahomes wife Brittney (however you spell her name) and I know she's a big focus in the series.

I started watching this last night, and got through 3 episodes.  I must say it is quite well done.  I was just side-streaming while working on another project (unless I have a little woman next to me to cuddle, that's the only way I can watch TV these days.)  I like Patrick Mahomes more now than I did before, but yeah his wife is kinda annoying.  God, that voice of hers when she's rooting for Patrick is worse than banshee getting anal raped.  My glass of milk curdled on my desk.

On the other hand, Kirk Cousins' life seems so simple and normal.  I liked him before, but now I think I like him even more.  I've liked Mariota since his days at UofO, and have rooted for him to do well his entire career.  He had so much potential, and I really expected much more out his pro career.  It's a bit sad to see the trajectory of his career dwindle the way it has.

I did watch Hard Knocks last night though and definitely recommend it.  The Jets are about as exciting as a team can be right now and of course there's plenty of Aaron Rodgers so far.  He actually comes off like a cool guy though and I know that's not true lol, so there's definitely a bit of "fluff".

Lol, I like Aaron Rodgers, again I've been following his career since his college days at Berkely, and was furious when we (the Niners) didn't draft him in 2006.  I'll have to check this one out.  Is it on Netflix also?
257  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are you running Bitcoin Core through Tor? Should it be a requirement? on: August 10, 2023, 07:35:37 PM
you would know they are only getting one straw from every hay stack.
then, you don't understand how Tor traffic analysis and detection of its users really works,  sorry

The way TOR traffic is routed is largely up to me.  I can use a different circuit for each website I visit, and completely separate circuit for my bitcoin transactions.  Or, I can set up my own node with an Onion address, connect to it from anywhere in the world, and avoid all entry/exit nodes all together.  You seem unaware of how to use TOR and how it works.

Generally speaking Bitcoin over TOR is nonsense  for me.  On one hand we want the fastest mass adoption of this cryptocurrency but on other hand  we afraid  publicity and use TOR which is traditionally  associated with  illicit activities in the eye of Joe and Maggy.

Go read my first post in this thread before making such generalizing comments, please.  I clearly stated that I believe bitcoin should work on any and every network available.  Privacy is a natural right to which we're all entitled.  The levels to which, and methods by which we choose to preserve our privacy should be a personal choice.  I have no issues with people not protecting their privacy at all, that's up to them.

If you are okay with a centralized VPN provider, and don't care about the government's ability to subpoena your traffic, that's your choice.  Just don't go claiming that your choices are superior to mine despite you being clearly misinformed on how to use TOR to protect your privacy in ways that a VPN cannot.
258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Mass hack -- over 1000 bitcoin addresses have been affected on: August 10, 2023, 06:14:39 PM
Sorry for your loss.  Just going through your post I have some comments and some suggestions.

Since 2018, I've been using a Bitcoin Core wallet (full node, but slightly cut down with a log block limit of about 30 GB + headers, etc.) on my own server (Ubuntu 16.04). The wallet was used not only to store BTC, but also periodically to deposit and withdraw BTC. Interacted with the node locally on my server.

I don't like mixing servers and wallets.  If I'm opening a node to the network, even just my local network, I wont ever use it to open a wallet.  Maybe overkill on the paranoid side, but just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean a hacker isn't trying to get at my coins.

The mnemonic for the current wallet was generated in 2020 using this library:bitcore-mnemonic + bitcore-lib .

Unconventional key generation.  I didn't go through this code, but I couldn't help but notice that bitcore-mnemonic is a Java applet.  As far as I know web-browser and Java based seed generators won't provide the same entropy that a python or C++ seed generator can.  Again, to my admittedly limited knowledge this is due to whether the applet can access the CPU's ability to generate randomness, and I don't know if this particular Java app can do so.  If I'm wrong in this instance, this could be a non-issue.

The mnemonic was stored on the server, and also in my encrypted file with keys (strongbox), I did not decrypt it and did not use it in open form from the moment it was generated and placed in the wallet, because there was no need for it. Several backups of wallet.dat also resided on the server and never left it.

I don't know if this had anything to do with your hack, but storing seeds digitally, especially on the same machine as the wallet isn't very secure regardless of whether the info is encrypted or not.  Loss of the machine could mean loss of your funds and all the backups.

Only I exclusively had access to the server via SSL, it was done from reliable places and with all precautions, and no extraneous activity on the server was recorded before, during or after the situation.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this makes me think you were using a third party VPS provider to run your node and wallet.  That's a big security risk in my opinion.
259  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bisq - Exchange, Decentralized. on: August 10, 2023, 05:22:33 PM
I've been using Bisq 1.9.12 for the last month or so, and I love the new clone offer feature.  It allows a maker to create one offer, but clone it to use different payment methods.  For example, if I want to sell some bitcoin, but I don't care if I'm paid via Zelle or Strike, I can create one offer for Zelle, submit my maker fee and security deposit, and publish the offer.  Then I can clone the Zelle offer and change the payment method to Stirke, and I want to set a different margin for Strike payments, I do that as well.  If I use a trigger, I can different prices set for the cloned offer also.  I don't need to submit another maker fee or security deposit, both offers share the same fees and security deposit.  When a peer takes one of the cloned offers, both offers are removed from the market.

This will help makers by allowing them to use one offer (and one security deposit,) but advertise it in two or more markets.

Some other improvements made to V1.9.12:

Improvements
Allow cloning offers (with different price, payment method, currency, and trigger price) while sharing its maker fees and security deposits
Don't process burningman accounting data by default
Speed up burningman and statistics view loads
Allow dispute agent to resend PeerOpenedDisputeMessage to non-resposive peer
Prefer Burningmen's custom receiver address
Burningman Accounting: Show total fees and total DPT
Remove Burningman activation code (1, 2)
Add gettransactions method to API
getoffers (API): Return all offers instead of the only ones with a matching accounts
260  Economy / Reputation / Re: Another unfair trust/feedback from user Timelord2067 on: August 10, 2023, 03:26:16 PM
@Timelord2067, I agree with the other comments in this thread suggesting you leave the lender and the borrower to deal as they choose.  I also think your review is unwarranted and inappropriate.  Borrowers ask for extensions on loans all the time.  If a borrower is late, and the lender isn't complaining, then you should assume they've been in contact privately and leave their business for them to conduct.  In this case the lender seems pleased with the deals he's made with HedgeFx, so there's really no need for anyone else to get involved.

Also, I've been asked by the borrower, HedgeFx to leave DT feedback on his trust wall indicating he has an outstanding loan.  That isn't something a scammer would usually request.
