1101  Economy / Reputation / Re: How many red tags is the scammer Royse777 going to get? on: August 09, 2022, 03:43:55 PM
~

I like efialtis, I think he's a really good dude.  But at times I think his judgement on these issues can be a bit skewed.  It's not the first time that I've suspected him of having a conflict of interest when it comes to drama involving casinos.  Just my opinion.

Thank you for exposing two scammers - Royse777, DireWolfM14. Now this scammer has 3 flags, I hope there will be more!

So, am I scammer or a defender of a scammer?  Make up your mind, already.  But, if you're going to call me a scammer then provide proof.  You wouldn't want anyone to think that you're just bitter because I've exposed your scam attempts.

Another comment in that thread has me confused, unless I'm missing something; a user mentioned that he no longer wants to use segwit addresses.  Why?
Are you talking about the comment made by the user with the name of nbourbon?
If so, I think he/she doesn't want to use segwit addresses just because he/she thinks that it's better to use taproot addresses. I don't think that's due to a flaw in segwit addresses.
Maybe, that user doesn't know that with using taproot addresses instead of native segwit addresses, he/she will have to pay more fee for many of the transactions.

Yeah, that's the one.  Maybe I misinterpreted the concern.  I want to use taproot also, but probably not enough to switch from electrum to another client.  I do run core on my PC as well, I can always grab a taproot address from there if needed.  But like you said, taproot will be more practical once more services and users have implemented it.  It took a while for most to adopt native segwit, so I imagine that we'll be waiting a couple of years before v1 addresses are ready for prime time.
1103  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: August 07, 2022, 07:11:59 PM
I love how this topic divolged into a discussion on the definition of stealing.. Cheesy

It reminds me of Bill Clinton's impeachment.  What is the definition of "is?"

I guess that's entirely possible. I think I have done due diligence to ensure that doesn't happen.
I'll let you know.
I don't understand why you don't just share the address here, since that remains by far the most likely route to letting the owner of the coins track you down, far more likely than anything which will be achieved by blockchain analysis by this local individual.
Maybe he doesn't trust us.. Wink

There are lot of differing opinions shared here, and I can see how that would be overwhelming for easternklaas.  I'm not sure that posting the address is a good idea, but it would go a long way to prove that easternklaas made a good faith effort to find the original owner.  If he chooses to cash the funds after waiting some time, that could help him avoid any local legal complications.  Obviously other more private and technical methods have been suggested, but if easternklaas were to find himself in a legal pickle, would the courts and the lawyers understand those technical methods and their value in informing the owner?  It's a dilemma, to say the least.

Taking a mushroom from the forest would most probably be considered stealing, indeed. Even though nobody cares about it, that mushroom does belong to someone and does have some value, so after finding it, by taking it home, you stole it.

I think that's going to depend on jurisdiction more than anything.  I live in an area where harvesting mushrooms isn't banned, but trespassing is, of course.  As long as the property in question is public property, there are almost no restrictions.  There is a small state forest not far from me that does have restrictions on mushroom gathering, but the rule (not a law) is intended to keep that specifically delicate ecosystem in balance.

I'd like to emphasize that we could have given detailed instructions on whatever method he decided to go for; and this being a public forum, he could have held any of us accountable (at least by our forum reputation) if we publicly gave him false advice. That's the reason I'd consider instructions on the technical boards here pretty trustable.

I tend to agree with this.  As long as everything is kept out in the open, things tend to go smoothly.  Any private communication can go sideways in a hurry.

This topic has turned into an interesting study of human behavior.  It reminds me of an incident that also unfolded on a public forum many years ago;  On a firearms related forum that I frequent someone posted photos of an M14 rifle that he was considering buying, and wanted the opinion of forum members about the value of the gun vs. it's asking price.  The gunshop had misidentified the rifle as an M1 Carbine (a much less valuable firearm,) and it was priced way below the market value of a typical M14 clone in similar condition.  But that's not all: This was not a commercial, semi-automatic clone version.  It was an absolutely invaluable, 100% real government issued M14, which is a machine gun and illegal to poses.  It was not on the NFA (legal machine gun) registry, so it most certainly had "fallen off the back of a truck," (or, in other words, stolen from a government arsenal.)  The fact that it was a machine gun was plainly clear from the photos, and many forum members were able to identify the small gunshop where the photos were taken.  The responses to this post were mind-boggling; many were encouraging the OP to rush back to the gunshop and buy the rifle before someone else who had seen his post does.

Now I am a staunch defender of the 2nd amendment, and I believe that restrictions on fully automatic weapons are an infringement.  Yes, it's extreme, I know, but another extreme belief I harbor is that I am a law abiding citizen and the mere presence of a full-auto weapon won't change that.  I only bring this up to make the point that no matter what I feel about a specific law and the premise for it's existence, it is the law of the land in which I've chosen to live.

I guess that was the long way around to say that whatever direction easternklaas takes, it's only his business and the business of the legal authorities in his jurisdiction.  Once he's satisfied any legal obligations, he'll only be left to answer to any spiritual authority he subscribes to.

I ask you NOT to WRITE here again, no investments are accepted from you, you are very toxic!

I've asked you stop spamming the lending board with your scam attempts, but you don't listen to me.  Why should I listen to you?  I'll tell yo what, you stop asking for loans that you obviously won't pay back, and I'll stop warning people that you're a loan scammer.  Deal?
1105  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 16xypjnxlrew trying to scam in exchange section on: August 07, 2022, 03:04:49 AM
Unfortunately, he didn't tell me why he refused

It's because you're a wanna-be scammer.
1106  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Looking for Angel Investors on: August 07, 2022, 03:03:42 AM
@DireWolfM14, plenty on plenty of cryptoassets have done 30x's. I'm sure one received their fair share of "that's a lie" if any claims of such returns were made before any substantial increase in price..

So what?  Are you suggesting the OP has the ability to predict which asset is going to pump 30x?  How well have you been able to predict these things in the last 9 years that you've been around?

I'll tell you what, feel free to lend the OP the $50 he's asking for, or better yet, $3000 and you can be his angle investor.  For the next six years you can enjoy 30x return on your money.  As you say, it's short-sighted to suspect he's lying, and he already said it's not a ponzi.

1107  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 16xypjnxlrew trying to scam in exchange section on: August 07, 2022, 01:41:33 AM
Where did you see the scam request for a loan for 6 years? Where is it?

Here it is:
Hi Alterra57!
Request for a NO collateral loan
Required USDT Amount: $3,000
Estimated Loan 6 years
USDT Address: TWBLAWLuPs7qzwqMajLgcc5jxyjVGTiUkB

You've been asking for loans for months now, and you can't even get some one to lend you a single dollar.  You know you're not going to get a loan for $30 let alone $3000.  Now you're just trolling and spamming the lending board with your bullshit.  I'm going to start reporting all your posts in the lending board as trolling from now on, and I'll use this post as a reference.  It may take me 1000 reports, but if you keep it up I will get you banned eventually.
1108  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: August 06, 2022, 09:43:27 PM
~

There's obviously a difference between finding something and stealing something.  But there're considerations that should be accounted for regarding the particular item found.  If I find a brick of gold that had been buried on my property which I've owned for many years, I'd consider that brick of gold mine, all mine.  But if instead, I found a piece of paper with a bank account number, username, and password, I would shred it.  There's obviously a difference between those items.

Of course I understand there's also a difference between blockchain and bank accounts, but in this case it's impossible to know whether the owner has a back up or not.  Assuming failure of any attempt to inform the owner of the breach, I'm of the opinion that the ethical thing to do is assume the owner does indeed have a backup, and leave the funds untouched.

Now having said that; I understand there's little overlap in mathematics and ethics, and I value the freedom blockchain has given us to choose.  But, that's freedom for you.  We all get the opportunity to choose how we behave, and the right choice isn't always clear.
1109  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide] on: August 06, 2022, 07:29:45 PM

Apparently the release was ready before Emzy had a chance to review and sign.  I think he's been busy lately with his work as a member of the Bisq team, from what I can tell. Emzy's signatures have been added to all the releases as of this morning.

You can see the timestamp of the files here: https://download.electrum.org/4.3.0/
1110  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.3.0 Relased on: August 06, 2022, 07:12:15 PM
So no Taproot address support yet? Where is that in their release timetable? It shouldn't be too hard to implement since they can just adapt similar code from Bitcoin Core.
It's currently in the "backlog Milestone" so there's no definite release date: github.com/spesmilo/electrum/milestone/12
Also, ecdsa seems to be annoyed by users asking for Taproot support :/ (reference post)

I too was hoping for taproot integration in this release.  According to a previous post in that thread by sombernight, some work needs to be done to enable watch only wallets.  I imagine that without watch-only, taproot wallets wouldn't work with hardware wallets.  I haven't checked on the progress of that particular feature, but I do hope we don't have to wait much longer.

Another comment in that thread has me confused, unless I'm missing something; a user mentioned that he no longer wants to use segwit addresses.  Why?  I know about the bech32 v0 flaw with the checksums, but I reckon the chances of that resulting in a loss of funds are rather remote.  I don't think segwit addresses are any more vulnerable to clipboard malware than any other address, and if you don't go around swapping your p's and q's I think you'll be fine.  Again, I may be missing something, and if so I hope someone will enlighten me.
1111  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 05, 2022, 11:45:37 PM
I agree that it will be easier to be in the top 20 position 1/3 chance than to win a yellow cap 1/60...

Speak for yourself.   Cheesy

That said, I have my money on the Gunners to start the season on better note this season than they did against Brentford last season.

The lineups are available, and Arsenal look great from an attacking perspective, but the defense line looks not so convincing so they could really concede a goal here even if they win the game, but I don't intend to change my pick from the initial 2-0 pick I've had over 2 weeks ago.

Arsenal looked good.  I was afraid I was being a bit preferential predicting 0-2 myself, but I couldn't imagine the Gunners starting like last year.  It took them long enough to get that second goal, but Palace did seem to wake up in the second half.  Great start to the season.

Great start to the season, it's nice to see Arsenal on the top of the table.   Grin

Even if it may only be for one day, lol.  I expect City or LFC, or maybe the Spurs to take the spot in short order.  Nevertheless, much better start to Arsenal's season than last year.

Good job on your opening parley.  I was a bit ambitious on the corners:

1113  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with electrs (romanz) on: August 05, 2022, 08:54:45 PM
Unfortunately (or fortunately) I haven't had time to sit in front of the computer much this last weekend, or this week.  Too busy with other fun projects, some of them outdoors!

You should try to raise the electrs log level into DEBUG, and also pull up the log from the client app.

I'll give that a shot, thanks for the suggestion.

Are you sure you use
Code:
50001:t
on client side, not ssl?
The problem is in connection to VPS only, or using localhost it does not work too?
Did you try to connect using Electrum or other software, like Trezor Suite or RPC browser?

Yes, I use Electrum client, but I don't get how the "t" after the port is supposed to help.  I tried it anyway, but no change.

It is almost definitely related to your firewall.

You should allow all outbound traffic, as it's common for software to open temporary ports, and it might not be able to send anything to you. Alternatively, just whitelist your IP address in the firewall if that's possible.

Tried to disable the firewall all together, it doesn't seem to make a difference.  That wouldn't really sit well with me anyway; when I set up a remote server I would want to use UFW and whitelist my IP for port 22.  Call me paranoid.

Yaaay!  Premier League is officially underway!  I've been at work, with no time to watch the game, so I've got it recording so I can watch it when I get home.  My curiosity got to me, though so I had to check the score.  Arsenal leads the league!  Go Gunners!
1115  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bisq - Exchange, Decentralized. on: August 05, 2022, 07:42:41 PM
Not sure if any of you had noticed, but the Bisq price server was having some issues this week.  It looks like one of the price providers wasn't giving any volume, which affected the pricing displayed on Bisq.  Many were in the support room on bisq.chat complaining that the XMR pricing was way off.

Emzy opened an issue about it on Github which explains more: https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq-pricenode/issues/10

Yesterday the price node was updated: https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq/pull/6229#issue-1253270497
Here's the new chart: https://bisq.wiki/Bisq_Price_Indices#Asset_Table

OK guys, as promised here's a full list of choices.
~

Offensive/defensive scoring and roster positions all look good.

~
So it begins, the Hall of Fame game in less than two hours, hell yeah! I couldn't help myself and placed a couple of bets: Jags +2.5 and U30.5.

Sorry to hear that, it's not looking good so far.  I don't like putting money on preseason (meaningless) games.  So all my bets are going into phutball across the pond.  Grin

It's the season so nostalgic to see Nick Mullens, 'tis the season, lol.  I can't believe we had him as our starter for while.  He's a smart quarterback, but he's a runt with a mediocre arm.  He'll make a carrier as an emergency "third string," on various teams, and we'll get to see him in the pre-season for at least another ten, maybe twelve years.  In reality, it's probably the best job a guy could get.  He won't make the big bucks, but he'll do quite well (by my standards, anyway,) and his chances of becoming a vegetable are greatly diminished.  Really, it's a win - win.  I'd fucking do it.

OK guys, as promised here's a full list of choices.
https://ibb.pics/1dqzZ8w

https://ibb.pics/t8qhYvk

Do we need to give the quarterbacks such a demotion?  I think we had 6 points for passing TD, and 1 point for 10 yards.  I don't think QBs made many more points than a good running back or Deebo.

N/M I forgot about the 1st downs, that adds essential points and 1/25 really only affects long plays, so whatever.  The passing TDs are fine as well, not sure I agree with it but again, I can see why some would think a pass should count for less.  I like all the other setting, too.
1117  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: August 04, 2022, 07:07:26 PM
If I may switch gears for a bit; any body hear about Ledger seeking more funding?  According to a couple of articles that came out yesterday, they're in talks with investment firms looking for $100 million.  Not sure if this is a sign that they're in trouble or that they're planning on some other gimmick to lure more newbies.

Article here.

I agree with Cricktor, it's probably an intentional move to force people to use only the iCoin.  It wouldn't be the first time a company tried to force their customers to rely on only their product.

...so I asked their support team a few questions:
Those questions might be above their paygrade I am afraid. You might get a response like: of course it's open. You enter PIN, wallet is OPEN. No PIN - wallet is CLOSED. 100%. Turn on flashlight for easier PIN entry.

 Cheesy

Lol, maybe so.  It is telling that they have yet to respond to my questions.  If I ever to get a response I'll post it here.
1119  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Coinkite ColdCard Mk4 Review on: August 04, 2022, 06:38:09 PM
Let's fork the damn thing and see what happens.
I remember someone was saying last year that NVK and his legal team has lawsuits ready for anyone that tries to fork coldcard again, so good luck with that.

I don't presume to speak for Nvk, but I doubt he would get bent out of shape over forking for personal use or in an attempt to improve the code; i.e. add features or enhance security.  Sure, there's no financial incentive to do so, but that doesn't stop people from donating their time for open-source projects that also don't offer incentives.  I'm not a coder, but if someone were to fork the firmware to include support for XMR, I'd be all over that.  Grin

For Coldcard it's not Creative Commons, it's Common Clause license, there is a difference, and I don't see anything good about that, except ego of single developer being blown up.

I've been reading up on Common Clause licensing, and it seems many knowledgeable folks are predicting it's days are numbered.  I still don't know how it differs from Creative Commons, but one article suggested that'll be the preferred licensing in the near future for developers that want to be transparent, but restrict the competition from monetizing their work.
1120  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Looking for 0.005-1 BTC loan URGENT on: August 04, 2022, 04:55:20 PM
I am ready to go to a lawyer to sign all the necessary documents, if I don't repay the loan, you will recover the loan from me in court.

What if you squander it on cocaine and hookers?  The court can only issue an order to pay, but no judge can squeeze juice from a dry lemon.
