Hmm am I reading comments completely missing the obvious? (yeah that is a question)

If you change the PoW you simply add a "2nd PoW" and the code uses the old before Block X and the new starting from Block X

You release an updated everything (daemon, pool, miner, whatever else you like) and set Block X some time in the near future and tell everyone to upgrade before Block X (i.e. some "reasonable" time for them to upgrade)

I seriously hope I am misunderstanding the discussion, coz that would imply people not understanding what they are doing yet "running" the show ...
(relating to a comment I made elsewhere ...)

First, thank you for the remark - while I am aware of how upgrades are typically implemented at "Block X", your pedantic reminders are appreciated anyway (Since I am far from being a shining example of skill, having someone pedantic around is very important)

However, the issue brought up by MoonShadow was not "how does one implement a PoW upgrade" but "what if a group of people with a significant fraction of network computational power  willfully refuse to upgrade their software with a new version that includes a "chain-breaking" update"

To which my humble response is, basically, "as long as they don't have pools and / or exchanges among them, that is not an issue".

Also, to address an issue I find mildly bothersome, I am not a "showrunner" or "leader", and am a little bit annoyed when people make such claims.

What fantasy land is that () comment based on?

You want to say that alt-coins, or, for that matter, bitcoin itself, has a lot of goods/services providers whose business model is not reliant upon ability to convert cryptocoins to fiat, and are essentially "cryptocoin self-contained" ?

Well, since I am not aware of independent research as to the subject, I might very well be wrong and such enterprises might very well be common, but so far I fail to recall even one...would you please dispel my ignorance ?

How blind can you be not to see that lolcust = artforz = bitcoinexpress !!!

Tenebrix could have EASILY been attacked in the start ( not so much now ) BUT nobody did attack it because they have interest not to attack.

SC2 will be attacked because it is better competitor CPU only chain etc.

Not rocket science !

So, typing dog  standard of evidence strikes again ?

Woof woof  Shocked
2762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's 20,000 BTC? on: October 05, 2011, 07:49:14 PM
Satoshi probably has ten times that amount, or more.

As for people being afraid about it, it's the same reason children fear the bogeyman under the bed; utterly irrational.

Of course. Just like the boogeyman, Satoshi doesn't actually exist. There's a small group of early adoptors though, who all have 300k+ bitcoins, who could all singlehandedly wreck bitcoin at any moment they choose. If you have to be affraid of it or not is another question though.

It's not the early adopters holding large amounts of BTC that it's rational to worry about. After all, these people generally have a very strong incentive to continue holding it. The people that it's rational to worry about are those who have large amounts of USD and could singlehandedly wreck Bitcoin whenever they want.

Yep the government need not spend millions on ATI cards. All they have to do is this :

1. Drive down the price
2. Miners quit
3. Network is weak
4. Government can attack it and mess it up without spending a lot of money
5. Huh
6. Profit for the government !
2763  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What speed are your getting CPU mining TENEBRIX? on: October 05, 2011, 07:06:32 PM
Damn it !!! How can I optimize my crap 2600K !?

You folks with AMD Phenom II at 3.6 GHz getting 16 khash/s on only 5 cores
Me with Intel 2600K at 4.2 GHz getting 9 khash/s on all 8 threads

Fuck Intel !
2764  Bitcoin / Mining / Solo mining questions and clarifications on: October 05, 2011, 06:48:20 PM
Just a question about solo mining. How does the network "record" that you are mining when doing it solo.

For example, if on average it takes 12 hours to make a block do I have to leave the computer on 12 hours without interruption and then get my block OR can I leave for 6 hours then turn off computer for 1 minute then run for 6 hours again and at end I get my block as network "remembers" I have been doing the proof of work even before computer was turned off then started again etc. !?

With a pool, they can see the shares submitted etc. but how does that work while soloing !? Who / what keeps record how many "shares" each solo miner did or how many hashes he has done etc. to get the block !?

Also, say there are two miners that have same power and soloing. Is there like a queue which miner gets the blocks etc. !? Or for example the miner with the most solo power gets this block then the next less powerful miner gets this block etc. !?

Thanks !
2765  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mistake on: October 05, 2011, 06:45:26 PM
ATM it is not really worth it to go solo when you have less than 10 Ghash/s
2766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Possible 51% Attack on fairbrix (fbx) on: October 05, 2011, 05:22:23 PM
BitcoinEXpress admitted to doing the attack here :
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=45667.msg558154#msg558154

Makes me wonder if he does anything else than attack alternate block chains. Roll Eyes

Everybody knows he is an idiot. He attacks Namecoin then SC then Fairbrix BUT why not Tenecrapix !? Because he is artforz which is also known as lolcust and they have interest to not attack tenecrapix !!!

Seriously, somebody should give crapple a call and bait this vandal out.

No problem, we can start over. You know what, but this little ugly turd of man it is going to be a loser for rest of his shitty life.
He can prance around here and do attacks left and right, but nothing changes. In real life, the one that actually matters, hes is still a human turd.

Well put. He is a disgraceful and pathetic moron. Why not attack Tenecrapix too, mr apple employee !?

2769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any interest in a Fairbrix pool? on: October 05, 2011, 04:37:28 PM
I am very interesting in Fairbrix pool as replacement for Tenebrix pool because Tenebrix has too big bounty that disturb me.

Yes but where can I cash out my FBX !?!? NOWHERE as it is useless.
2770  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: October 05, 2011, 04:26:50 PM
The funny thing is: Most of the complainers will drop TBX and start to mine SC2 when it is published, because there are some BTCs to be made ;-)

Finally somebody with a BRAIN round ere !
2771  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tenebrix, a CPU-friendly, GPU-hostile cryptocurrency on: October 05, 2011, 04:24:08 PM
More fail by BitcoinExpress. No wonder. CPU mining is here to stay  Tongue
Oops, you posted with the wrong account Wink
So Bulanula, why is it that your are so hostile to BitcoinExpress?

theory: He's a douche bag?

Hi Retard,

We'll see who's talking crap when CH/RS decides to put SC 2.0 on the table. A day or so ago he was here talking his usual line of garbage, showing us PS'd screen shots of a testnet and squawking about how it was 51% and BCX proof right up until realized that I had already tested a CPU only chain killer on Fairbrix.

He didn't seem too anxious to put his bullet proof testnet  up and scampered away like usual.

I noticed all you devout CoinRumper Butt Buddies seem to forget the most important thing. SC 2.0 is still talk and very much non existent.

Nice. Now you are so proud you attacked Fairbrix. Assume whatever you want but some of you have got your heads so stuck up your ass that you just cannot see that SC2 will be superior and that this TBX is a scam. Keep drinking the koolaid. CH has delivered in the past and he will deliver again. Don't get all the hate you have towards him. Somebody thinks of a better chain and you all start trolling LOL

Enjoy your brix when they are worthless. You can go back to selling expensive Toyota cars now.
2772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] The Proposal for EnCoin on: October 04, 2011, 10:37:27 PM
IMHO instead of thinking about it all day long JUST DO IT so it can compete with SC2, Tenebrix and Fairbrix etc. as a cpu only coin etc. please  Wink
2773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any interest in a Fairbrix pool? on: October 04, 2011, 10:34:57 PM
Nope, no interest at all. Waiting for SC2 as tenecrapix is taking to long to solo now etc.
2774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tenebrix, a CPU-friendly, GPU-hostile cryptocurrency on: October 04, 2011, 10:32:36 PM

2775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CPU Mining - Who will emerge Dominant? on: October 03, 2011, 11:54:23 PM
Dumped all my 176 tenebrix for 0.3 BTC not bad deal etc. mining this then dumping it as soon as it is confirmed !!

don't even feel sorry for the tbx buying sukaz  Tongue

It seems everyone cashing out TBX eg 40000 TBX already cashed out out of 60k mined so far from start etc. haha epic

if you are holding TBX then you will be left holding the bag in the end Smiley Enjoy !!!

I will hold, I lost money on i0coin and solidcoin, why not lose money on Tenebrix too?  The thing is, if Tenebrix ends up like another bitcoin, they could eventually be worth dollars each, so if I mine thousands of them now and sell them off later, that's tons of profit for me at a relatively low risk.

This is exactly why people are buying them from you for nothing too -- 10BTC for 20000 TBX now, but if the price of TBX skyrockets, you'll make a lot more than that same $50 you would get from bitcoin.  You might be throwing out your cash, but you also might be betting on the right number on a roulette wheel.

So far no chain except bitcoin ever reached $1 (except Namecoin which actually has a use except fairy dust WOW gold currency). Why would it ever reach that value ? Bitcoin is special. It is the biggest, cannot be attacked and the most established as was first created and limited 21 million supply. Nothing can really match that.

Enjoy getting stuck with your tenebrix !

I also sell my dog poop for $1 each. MAYBE in 100 years dog poop used as rocketship fuel so I'm holding it  Grin
2776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tenebrix, a CPU-friendly, GPU-hostile cryptocurrency on: October 03, 2011, 11:49:16 PM
How can people even think these TBX are worth anything at all etc.

Chain can be 51% at any time wiping off all your coins.
Exchange can be dumped at any time making price 0.

Just makes me mind bonkers  Shocked Huh

Enjoy the Tenebrix while you can.
2777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [NPR] Did A Reporter Just Solve A Bitcoin Mystery? - Satoshi Found? on: October 03, 2011, 10:29:00 PM
Don't think so:

Quote
o Davis, the author of the New Yorker story, emails Clear.

"I like to keep a low profile," Clear replies. "I'm curious to know how you found me."

Davis eventually cuts to the chase:

Finally, I asked, "Are you Satoshi?"

He laughed, but didn't respond. There was an awkward silence.

^ awkward silence doesn't really work over email.

LOL

The bigger LOL is when he cashes out after the scheme is uncovered and the baby Jebus is found Smiley

Who cashed out 20k last week ? Must have been him too seems he likes living the good life lucky on him  Cool
2778  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] New bitcoin mining business listed on the GLBSE - JLP-BMD on: October 03, 2011, 10:24:31 PM
What are your plans for the expansion and growth of this operation?

MAN, Bitcoins will rise to $100 very damn soon. No need for none of them "plans". Plans are for idiots we trust in bitcoin price rise to bring us the godly $$$ Grin
2779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [NPR] Did A Reporter Just Solve A Bitcoin Mystery? - Satoshi Found? on: October 03, 2011, 10:17:29 PM

He certainly looks the part.

LOL epic ! Let us hope he does not cash out ASAP now he has been uncovered !

Always knew he was from the UK. Who else reads the times !?!? LOL nice one mates !
