2361  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: If you're mining at around break even prices, STOP! on: October 30, 2011, 11:01:59 PM
This is probably stating the obvious, but I felt it should be posted anyway..

If you're running a miner and only making a few cents profit or perhaps just breaking even and hoping for the price to go up, then please, STOP!
You should really be BUYING BTC instead.

If you stop mining at break even and start buying BTC instead:

+ you are lowering the rate of inflation AKA the rate of new coins being created. This is good as it means less coins are flooding the market.
+ you are raising the demand of BTC by eating up some of the sell orders
+ you are lowering the difficulty of mining

Other things to note:

+ you have effectively "zero variance", you can control how many coins you want every day.
+ you can put your bitcoin hardware to other uses (I pointed mine towards folding@Home)

Perhaps it's only me personally that thinks that all of these things are a good idea, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

With regard to network security, there are a lot of people that are still making profit with FPGAs and cheap/"free" electricity which will help to hold the network up, so I wouldn't worry about this.

Thoughts?

I agree with this. I am buying as much as I can for the next ride to $30 and beyond. Remember $100 by Christmas ? It can still happen folks.
2362  Economy / Goods / Re: PCs, laptops, accessoires & way more - Up to 50% discount! on: October 30, 2011, 10:57:32 PM
I don't see what I do as a scam. People who work at Zercom get a special code for employer-discounts. I obviously know that code, and I also know a code that was made for testing purposes long ago. I use those for big discounts and sell the goods. You might see it as scamming but I do not.

so your stealing from the company you work for by using an old discount code which for whatever reason was accidentally never deactivated. even if you arent are scamming anyone on the forums your a thief and stealing from zercom. you should report the testing code and have it deactivated.

Who cares ? They are not paying me enough anyway Grin so they deserve it.
2363  Economy / Goods / Re: PCs, laptops, accessoires & way more - Up to 50% discount! on: October 30, 2011, 10:47:34 PM
Not sure why you're acting like this. Please give me one serious reason or evidence that Im a scammer.

I suggest that you report him to a moderator for defamation. That ought to teach him.

fully automated upscale

I don't think you understand how cooking works.

I cook gourmet international cuisine as a hobby, and have dinner parties at my house. I have done Russian, Italian, Japanese, Indian, and Greek so far. Wanting to experiment with French. This restaurant was French. I probably will change the menu to something else though from what I understand, French cooking mainly involves a lot of sauces and frying. Mixing sauces automatically is pretty easy, as is frying. If I add pasta options, that's pretty easy as well.

You also have no understanding of french cuisine.

I missed that. I think he meant Chinese cuisine with sauces and frying, certainly not French. LOL. All the merrier this thread becomes over time. I suggest OP close it as he is clearly delusional and we don't waste more time/space/bandwidth etc. Thank you !
2365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tenebrix, a CPU-friendly, GPU-hostile cryptocurrency on: October 30, 2011, 09:35:37 PM
Not in the long run.  Short term profits are hardly a good reason to implement merged mining.  The reason for merged namecoin was to improve the security of the namecoin DNS system by raising hashing power making a 51% attack punitively expensive.

So are you saying that over time NMC price will drop to almost nothing ? I don't quite get it, sorry.

Any plans in implementing scrypt merged mining (probably with Litecoin as parent)?

IMHO we need to merge mine FBX with TBX and LTC as soon as humanly possible.

Why?  What advantages do FBX and TBX offer over LTC?

Makes more profit for miners if you MM all these three coins ?

Jailed for selling children's clothing ? Wow, you have some messed up laws in DE.

2370  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Light bulb 5v PSU load - how much is enough? on: October 30, 2011, 08:40:02 PM
I see that many people have done the 5v light bulb mod for their PSU.

I am not doing the light bulb but I do have a SATA hard drive which uses 3.3v, 5v, and 12v according to the pinout.  Is that enough of a power draw?

Please link this as I have not heard before of it. Seems dumb making light when I sleep next to my rigs.

I use two 10W ceramic resistors in parallel soldered. Is this good enough ?
2371  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: usb drive vs hard drive less stales? on: October 30, 2011, 08:33:57 PM
hmmm,

tonight I've converted my usb pen drive BAMT install to HD and already it looks like it may be a few percent lower on the stales.  Dont get me wrong it was typically just under or around 1% to start with but now its 0.01 rock solid.  The stales issue is all down to timing I guess, all sorts including internet connection can affect it to a degree.  Just thought it was worth a mention.

Question is if you have no other reason to use a hard disk will the reduction in stales pay for the hard disk being run?? :-)

Yes because the HDD produces an invisible magnetic field which reverses the polarity on the electrons in your 6990 which means they slow down which will cause them to be processed less fast so this will result in more stale shares. I think I have explained this new Bitcoinomagnetic effect. Faraday be dammed !

Because the overhead costs would be enormously higher than a traditional restaurant to produce far inferior food?

There won't be any cooks or wait staff, so I doubt it

Because you have no demonstrated ability to design the kind of complex machinery needed to prepare anything more complicated than Spaghetti-Os?

I may not have demonstrated it here, but I can do it. I have designed and programed a lot of machines in SecondLife, including ones that relied on physics. I can just pick up some cheap or free CAD software bundle and do the same for robots.

Because your budget to design and build a robot restaurant is based on nothing and almost certainly drastically underfunded?

How do you know? I know how much the building costs. The technology can't be much more expensive.

Because your proposed location has already proven unable to sustain an upscale restaurant?

Only because it had to pay cooks and waitstaff, and because the bank foreclosed on it. If I have all the money up front before starting it, I won't have to worry about banks.

Because your entire business model is high risk / low reward?

It's not high risk. If I don't get enough money, I'll return everyone's money. You just don't get it  Roll Eyes

I hope you are joking. What are you ? 17 ? Anyone older than that will laugh at your supposed "robot-building skills".

FYI, I am putting $50 of my own money into this to start

You and logansryche should team up and buy a lemonade stand.

Best thing I read all day ! Thank you mate.
2374  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitCoin miner for Android? on: October 30, 2011, 08:08:00 PM
Check out 'ARM' section of this site, Motorola devices for example are running on ARM processors (as are many others)

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

there is limited stats there but Nokia N900  running on ARM for example is getting less than 0.36 Mhash per Joule, which is not at all efficient, let alone cost effective (yes, I know, it's not android).

Speaking of mining on an N900,can somebody please provide me a download link to the mining program for the N900 phone along with setup instructions please as I really want to gte it started asap now for my experiments.Even if it's CPU only,I want the link to it.While I'm on the subject can someone please build a GPU miner on that phone and also an overclocking tool for N900s GPU.Thinsg for people to know:I know that overclocking is risky to the N900,I know that mining is probably worthless on N900.All I care about is that I can carry out my experiments involving multiple devices form multiple platforms in addition to my 2 computers.

Thank you

Hope you are joking right ? I don't even dare OC my laptop and you want to OC a phone GPU lol good luck !
2375  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin business opportunity on: October 30, 2011, 07:57:18 PM
Why trying to reinvent the wheel ? Has anybody done an automated restaurant yet ? Sounds like something out of 2050 etc.

First get the actual normal human operated restaurant using bitcoins.

Then and then only think about automation. You are going way over your head IMHO. Never heard of a restaurant without humans serving etc. Good luck though.

Any ETA on how long till it becomes 5% investment ? I already know many restaurants simply reheat the pre-cooked food in a microwave then serve it out immediately but that is totally different than your no-waiters system. No cookers too ? Will robots cook the food as well ?
2376  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [880 GH/s 0% fee SMPPS] ArsBitcoin mining pool! Come join us! on: October 30, 2011, 06:42:01 PM
I'm not going crazy just reporting my experiences when I encountered merged mining before coming over here. Those extra bits of hashing caused me problems. It may not be the same for everyone but it was my experience. I also know at least one other posted their concerns on Slush's thread and was shot down for dissenting as I am now it feels. You may not agree with me but I am only sharing my opinion. People can take it as they see it. But I for one would move to another pool if merged mining was forced on the whole pool as happened over at Slush's pool or I noticed that it was causing a slow down in bitcoin mining if there were was still a opt out for those of not wishing to get in on the early stages of namecoins.

LOL. You do not understand how merged mining works my friend. The BTC block is all the same just the coinbase is bigger to include the Namecoin POW. Some namecoind patches etc. and that is basically it ( I am not a MM expert so don't quote me ). No way it can cause internet or BSOD problems. That is a Windows feature  Wink  Cheesy ! Next in Windows 8 : interactive colored BSOD screens !
2377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Block mining on: October 30, 2011, 05:59:09 PM
Solo mining->you only mine bitcoins
Merged mining in a pool->you mine both bitcoins and namecoins at the same time. Double the gain.

Not necessary. Settin up solo merged mining isn't so hard (although it is definitely harder than just setup solo mining or even pool mining).

We need a good guide for this ! I too am interested to learn how to solo merged mine.
2378  Economy / Goods / Re: Yankee's Self Defense Shop! BUY 2 GET 1 FREE! on: October 30, 2011, 05:51:31 PM
Why is it that only illegal / semi-legal / legally ambiguous items get sold for Bitcoins most commonly ? SR and this is an example too. Grin

Any newbie that comes here will think : "Yep, this the currency for drugs, knifes, firearms and all kinds of illegal stuff".

I wish you success.
2379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 2 Release - Monday 10th October 23:35 UTC on: October 30, 2011, 03:52:13 PM
... looking at BTC-E at the moment SC2 could drop down to as low as .00001 BTC in the not too far future,
(buys are a total of 50BTC including all the fake ones - everyone seems to be selling)
so you could get 1mil SC for 10BTC (at .00001) and become a truted node Cheesy
(or even .000001 thus trusted for only 1BTC)

Looks like trust will be cheap soon Cheesy

Nice one ! LOL
