2002  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $500 — Butterflylabs, is it a scam? on: November 25, 2011, 06:47:13 PM
Are other people also participating in this demo?  Or have there been other demos?  I just found this:

http://www.chugalug.org/widget/1739/BitForce%20product%20demo
http://www.chugalug.org/widget/1740/RE:%20BitForce%20product%20demo

"Yes, the drivers are open source. Processing functions outside of sha256 are not supported."

Well I guess that kind of sucks. Good luck selling these after the hype / music is over. Might as well buy the damn coins then since the hardware can become just as useless just as soon if something else comes up etc.
2003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: November 25, 2011, 06:37:09 PM
WOW. Then somebody really needs to come along and fix this blockchain bloat issue. For me ( in a poor country ) even a gigabyte is a lot to store permanently and the fact that it is growing every day without stopping makes it even more daunting. Also dowloading 1GB is a great hit to my monthly allowance so that is not good either. You have to accept there are some people that are that poor and much less privileged than you in the Imperial USA. If we want to go for mainstream adoption we need to get the poor people on board as well and not just the rich in the West. I think something like BTC or LTC really can thrive in the undemocratic East and other oppressed populations that really need anonymity from the police state. You over in the US can't even comprehend how much control the state has over here and yet you are still claiming your government is tyrannical. You can't even guess Undecided

Damn. We really need to do this as a free service for the community.

What about the private keys leaking as has been discovered with the encryption bug Roll Eyes ?

2008  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [254 GH/s] ABCPool.co - 0% fee PPS & 0.1% invalid shares! on: November 24, 2011, 10:42:26 PM
OK. Can you please clarify 2 things here for me. Thanks !

Firstly, do you plan to implement merged mining any time soon ?

Secondly ( and most important ) : is this a real true PPS pool which pays out even if the pool cannot afford it / has not found a block in a long time. For example, SMPPS only pays out what the pool has earned and is not true PPS because some shares may get paid less etc.
2009  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: November 24, 2011, 10:12:48 PM
If the network can't really handle all the TX spam how will it handle when real volume starts working and the spam is actually real transactions. Is this system scalable ? We don't really know. TX spam is quite useful in a way. Test the reliability of our systems. Many were down etc.

Totally agree. Whoever is sending this spam is giving this blockchain a good test. It's also really nice that he/she is giving out 4 litecoins in transactions fees to everyone that finds a new block. However the current level of transactions plus this transaction spam still can't be anywhere near the volume of transactions Visa or Mastercard process. I'd like to see a BitCoin like blockchain tested with that kind of transaction volume.

Indeed. We don't really know how scalable this whole blockchain method is. How much can it handle ( in terms of TX per second ? ) and how much can it scale ?

Right now the TX numbers are very low and we are all happy but nobody has done a through assessment on the testnet to see the upper limit of blockchain-based cryptocurrencies.
2010  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: November 24, 2011, 10:07:01 PM
So what are you MM this scamchain with ? Ixcoin ?

How you plan to stop 51% attacks with such low hashrate and open exchange ?
2011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How exactly would a 51% attack work? on: November 24, 2011, 09:29:45 PM
Ask altcoin attackers.

I think we ought to ask BCX as he has threatened and actually done many a 51% attacks :

-NMC threatened and got 30 000 NMC ransom
-FBX killed off by him
-SLC threatened but failed

I think I am missing another one here too.
2012  Other / Off-topic / Re: My Attempt at The Uberman Sleep Schedule on: November 24, 2011, 09:25:41 PM
Good luck with this but I don't think you will get very far. Even sleeping 5 hours a night is too little for some.

I love how easy is to jerk the chains of Coinhunter. With a couple of post I brought most his personalities out on one page. In this thread we have heard from Coinhunter, Spacy, Psytard, Bulanula and FlipPro.

Now all I need to complete this collection of inbreds is for Viper Lemon Bitch and Clipse to drop by.

You really must be a woman : your short term memory sucks.

I thought we already established that I am no longer a SC fanboy  Wink ?

Well, maybe there was a long weekend.  and Clipse appears on page two (and got quoted).

Guess I over looked Clipse and YES he is that meaningless.

Still waiting to get doxxed BCX Roll Eyes.

I added you to my signature and also posted in here ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484.1060 )

Would be grateful if you could do the same. Thanks !

+1 for "mrx"

Got payment of 7 BTC when all I was asking was 5 BTC. A star ! We need more people like him to stimulate the economy. Thanks again !
2017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should "long Namecoins" cost the same as short ones? on: November 24, 2011, 01:16:06 PM
I'm thinking about building a distributed GLBSE (if enough developers join in - I don't have the time to do this alone). I think an implementation could be built on top of Bitcoin & Namecoin, instead of a separate blockchain.

So, imagine this: To register a new asset, you buy a long Namecoin address that is the signature on a contract (published into the bitcoin blockchain itself as a text message). You might want to have 1,000,000 different stocks of this asset, that will each require a Namecoin address in order to be uniquely transferable (let's not worry about stock splits for the moment).

Currently, this might be very expensive, since each Namecoin registration costs a given amount of money, and 1M of them will cost a lot.

Is there a feasible way to change the Namecoin protocol such that long addresses/names will cost less to register?
This seems fair to me, since there a lot more long addresses, so the "inherent value" of a long address is smaller than a short one (compare the "abc.com" domain to "21z980347sd9fhase43wsadf.com")

Would anyone even consider making such a change in Namecoin? Would this cause an influx of spam in the Namecoin blockchain? There would be a minimal fee for an address, of course, it would just be lower than the current fee (which is what btw?)

The reason I think this should be implemented on top of current chains is that they already have a large hash rate, and any new chain we start will be prone to 51% attacks until merged mining is introduced ... which won't be for some time. If this can be reasonably implemented on top of existing chains, we benefit from all the existing hash power from day 1.

Not really. Try ScamCoin with cop nodes Grin
2018  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Will BF Labs publicly reveal their new mining technology tomorrow (Nov 25th)? on: November 24, 2011, 01:11:44 PM
Here's my day-before poll about BF Labs' big reveal tomorrow. Who needs reality TV when you have drama like this to enjoy!

Probably not. Do I get a free BTC for posting first Grin ?

Break in scenario sounds more like what BFL people would pull.
