2782  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FTX Scam : Unable to withdraw on: November 10, 2022, 06:48:36 AM
You'd think anyone with significant amounts of money invested in crypto would know this, or even just average investors who know the history of crypto exchanges....but apparently not.
Maybe people that have money on FTX learned the lesson, but even that is highly questionable as I wouldn't be surprised if they put their money again in some other exchange. But even if they won't, there's abundance of new people coming into crypto every day and they tend not to learn from the mistakes of others, like people now didn't learn anything from previous CEX fiascos.

I'm just learning about what's happening between FTX and Binance, and I don't know about the rest of you but it looks to me like Binance pulled a pretty dick move, even if it was against their biggest competitor.  Good luck to any of you who've got funds on FTX.
Yep, it is a dick move. He should have kept it quiet until they analyzed the situation but maybe he was just buying the time to dump his FTT tokens, and in the same time has the access to one of the main competitor's data.
2783  Economy / Economics / Re: Can our work be turned into a full-time investment? on: November 10, 2022, 06:32:56 AM
Under the current situation, many companies are facing bankruptcy or layoffs at any time, and we do not know what we will face tomorrow.
Do we need to switch our jobs to online jobs or a full-time investment in cryptocurrency?
Under the current situation, "full-time investment job" seems incredibly risky, and its not something that you can do without having big amount of money. Or by that you meant trading, but for you to turn that into a full time job you need to be an excellent trader, and you can become that only after years of hard work, learning and a lot of money lost in the process.

If you were fired by the company, would you still find a job you love as quickly as possible?Or you might choose to relax your mind and look for work again after a while.
I am lucky that I am working the job I like so I wouldn't wait for a second before finding a new one, but even if that wasn't the case I wouldn't relax and wait as you have to keep paying bills and on top of that, I need fiat to buy more of that bitcoin that is currently on the big discount.

2784  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance NOT buying FTX on: November 09, 2022, 09:31:47 PM
Isn't it weird that at the same time we are having twitter takeover by Musk?
I am not so sure that those two things are connected as there's simply so much shit going on lately that some will overlap. Then again, nothing can surprise me anymore.

It looks to me that world is going towards more centralization of power and money, biggest price of this will probably pay regular people and middle class.
That's unfortunately inevitable and I don't see what can happen to reverse centralization process. Maybe nuclear holocaust, but then nothing will matter anyway.

This is another lesson for sure on the dangers of using centralised exchanges and we all
should pursue the use of DEX's.
I honestly doubt that people will change the way they perceive centralized exchanges and they will still use them to store/buy their crypto. I mean, if Mt.Gox fiasco didn't teach people a lesson I don't think that FTX going down will neither and probably not even Binance.

It is confirmed now, Binance is out of FTX deal.

The social media company last week filed registration paperwork to pave the way for it to process payments, according to a filing with the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, which was obtained by The New York Times. The move comes as Mr. Musk seeks to transform Twitter after purchasing the company last month for $44 billion.

Businesses that conduct money transfers, exchange currency or cash checks are required to register with FinCEN, and to report suspicious transactions to the agency. A FinCEN spokeswoman said the agency does not comment on specific businesses. Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Turning Twitter into a payments processor would be a return of sorts for Mr. Musk to his early days in the tech industry. In 1999, he helped found X.com, an online bank that later became the digital payments company PayPal. Mr. Musk, 51, has often mused about incorporating payments into Twitter, saying he planned to transform the social media service into an “everything app

2786  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about forum discussion on: November 09, 2022, 05:08:00 PM
I've read a lot of posts and comments on this forum in the past few days but I saw few posts or replies saying "this have been talked about many times before " ,as a fresh forum user like me how will I know if something like that have been discussed before?
That's because many newbies don't even bother to read sticky post and rather make a new topic, and it goes on for years. But if you are looking for something specific, you can try using https://ninjastic.space/ which makes looking for topics or even keywords much easier.

Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?
It depends on what you want to discuss. For example, it won't be a problem if you have a specific problem and you open a new topic about it (but even then its good to browse forum first to see if someone else had the same problem), but if you come to this section with yet another "Newbies beware of xyz" that's been mentioned countless times before then you might get that response.
2787  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX comedy and might be another exchange that bites the dust? on: November 09, 2022, 03:46:18 PM
The plot thickens: according to Coindesk, Binance is considering to back down from FTX takeover. Seems like situation is far worse than initially thought if they are really thinking about not going through with it. I hope it isn't true, for the sake of all people who still have money there.

Cryptocurrency exchange giant Binance is highly unlikely to go through with its proposed acquisition of struggling rival FTX after less than a day of reviewing the company, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Binance’s non-binding letter of intent for the takeover – announced Tuesday as FTX’s financial position appeared to be spiraling out of control – hinged on Binance performing due diligence. Roughly half a day into that process of reviewing FTX’s internal data and loan commitments has led Binance to strongly lean against completing the transaction, the person said.
2788  Economy / Speculation / Re: what caused the bitcoin price to drop today? on: November 09, 2022, 01:18:01 PM
Have you seen the recent news about SBF and FTT? I think that's what caused this drop. Currently, the FTX exchange has blocked withdrawals and it is possible that thousands of investors will fall into a similar situation as the 2014 Mt.Gox floor crash caused.
While FTX is one of the biggest exchanges (2nd or 3rd), it eventual downfall wouldn't cause the situation anything remotely similar to Mt.Gox. Hell, I don't think that even Binance is big enough to compare with h Mt Gox market share prior to collapse.

but this time I will speculate that what caused the decline in bitcoin was because, the economic situation was down and also because of mass panic, and that would certainly make the price of bitcoin go down.
This time your speculation is wrong. Just check any crypto news portal or even browse around this forum and you will see what caused this recent dump.
2789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Importance of not letting others know about your crypto holdings on: November 09, 2022, 09:29:20 AM
You can inform just one member like your parents or wife about this so that they can recover the funds in case anything happens to you but never tell this information to casual friends or distant relatives.
Tbh not even people that are part of my contingency plan in case something happens to me don't really know how much in crypto I have and you simply don't share that info around (I can understand telling your wife though if she asks).

How can a kidnapped person can escape and told the police about a criminal in his home?
Maybe kidnappers were amateurs (and probably are as they were his "friends") that made a mistake and he managed to escape, and who said that they were still in his home when police came? I don't see it as very unlikely to happen.

businessman or an average person doesn't learn self defense since they're only learn about money management and investment. I just imagine a person who get kidnapped or $5 wrench attack, they must tell the private key or seed phrase to the criminal since he will scared and think his life is more important than money.
Since he said that funds were recovered, it probably means that kidnapped person eventually gave them bitcoin, and after police arrested them they managed to retrieve it.
2790  Other / Meta / Re: Could This Help To Reduce Spam? on: November 09, 2022, 09:08:47 AM
Don't lock, only disable signature from the 1000th pages onwards. It would filter signature spammers from posting shit.
And how would that change anything as they would just move to another sub-1000 page topic and continue posting shit. Keep in mind that they have to fill their signature quotas and they will just do it someplace else and posting in smaller topics won't magically make them better posters.

As I mentioned in one of the previous posts, take for example NBA thread that has more than 2k pages. Let's say that you create a new thread at the beginning of each season (which would happen if you disable signatures after 1k pages) how exactly would that affect the post quality? People would continue to write the same as before.

Since majority of spam is created due signature campaigns, its up to the managers to (at least try) control that by not counting low value posts.
2791  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: November 09, 2022, 08:45:50 AM
You know, actually, this does happen At least in Romania (I did not have time to search for the subject if it happened in other countries too). But in Romania, during past years, multiple teams demoted to second league started with a negative number of points. This happened for same reason: during the previous year, the teams did not pay their players.
That happens in other leagues too, but always as a part of punishment and not just because team won the championship (like it would be in this case) as it would be quite unfair.
2792  Other / Meta / Re: Could This Help To Reduce Spam? on: November 09, 2022, 08:20:28 AM
I'm not misleading anyone but most mega thread contains a lot of spam, compared to smaller ones.
If you lock those megathreads, where do you think those spammers will write? Do you think that they would stop posting or suddenly increase their post quality because of that measures? Of course not, they would just share their nonsense in other threads so I don't really see how what's proposed in your first post would help the forum.

Additionally, some managers use Ninjasty.space to count posts without properly evaluating the posts' quality as long as the user met the weekly post requirement.
Its true, managers could do more to control their signature campaign members, but the problem is that there are far more spots in signature campaigns that there are quality members so if they kick someone (unless its one of the best paid campaigns), they won't be able to replace with anyone better so they just let it slide as they have to fill their campaign somehow.
2793  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: November 09, 2022, 07:31:31 AM

Ah...
2794  Economy / Services / Re: Futures trading signals 5-10x gains every month on: November 09, 2022, 07:19:42 AM
Hey I'm Brian an experienced trader for 7 years, currently offering a premium trading signal group on telegram. You might wonder why I decided to open a premium channel. Well not everything in life is about money. At the time you feel you have sharp skills, suddenly money doesn't matter. You suddenly want to focus on making other people successful.
You said that not everything is about the money and that you want to focus on making other people successful, yet you have a premium group in which people have to pay. Interesting Cheesy

Win rate : 90%
Monthly return : 800-1200%
Now I am 100% sure that you are full of shit as no trader have that successful trade percentages (at least not in longer period of time), nor the monthly return.
2795  Other / Meta / Re: Could This Help To Reduce Spam? on: November 09, 2022, 06:11:49 AM
Nope, I don't think that solution would reduce spam. I just wish you put that option in the poll so I can actually vote. Tongue Take for example NBA topic that is going on since 2015 and has more than 2k pages; I don't see how there would be less spam if someone creates a new topic for each season as the same people would write in them.

That won't happen though, mods will delete duplicate threads as it is against the rules.
They would? Somehow I am not sure as there are at least 3 different threads ( I probably missed a few, this was just a quick search) for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and all in the same child board: FIFA World Cup 2022 Group Stage Highlights, FIFA World Cup 2022: Tournament Discussion Thread for Qatar 2022 and FIFA 2022 world cup. Btw, its not any better in other parts of the forum as the moment there is some big news, bunch of duplicate topics pop up, and they rarely get deleted/merged (I don't know if latter ever happens).

2796  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FTX Scam : Unable to withdraw on: November 09, 2022, 05:32:49 AM
I read somewhere that more than 6 billion USD was withdrawn from FTX in the last few days so I'm not surprised that they eventually had to stop all withdrawals for now.

While I do think  that people will be able to withdraw their money from FTX soon, anyone who was ignoring all what was happening around FTX and still holding their money there was behaving extremely irresponsible. They hopefully learned a lesson not to store crypto on any exchange as no exchange is too big not to fail.
2797  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: November 08, 2022, 04:38:27 PM
Neocekivani razvoj dogadjaja, Binance kupuje FTX. Cheesy

https://twitter.com/cz_binance/status/1590013613586411520

Vjerojatno oboje.
2798  Economy / Exchanges / Binance buying FTX on: November 08, 2022, 04:25:57 PM
Dafuq, looks like Binance will buy FTX. I honestly didn't expect this drama to end this way, and probably no one else either. One exchange to rule them all...

We were also curious about how users feel about implementing a rule which would give chances to more people to win. What we were thinking about is the following: to arrange things thus the winner of a category cannot be the same person from previous contests. Or he can be, as this does not mean a ban -- but he can be with more efforts. To be more precise, all previous winners could start with a coefficient of 0.8. Attention! -- this happens only regarding the previously won category!
Tbh I see no reason to make things more complicated and to introduce sort of handicap for the last year's winners for the sake of more different people winning the award each year. I say keep it as it was the previous years and let the best members win, no matter how many times before they won the award.
2800  Economy / Reputation / Re: Please check. Account with suspicious username cozytrade on: November 08, 2022, 03:11:31 PM
I have seen you have mentioned by a neutral trust that possible change of the account in 2017. But I have not got a clue about it. The first-time password was changed on at 10/18/2022 5:56:16 PM and woke up 10/18/2022 5:55:27 PM. But if ownership changed then the password should be changed too at the time of ownership change!!
Why should ownership change automatically mean that password and/or email change has to happen as well? Sure, it makes sense to change those things if you bought an account so the previous owner can't retake control of it, but accounts are not always sold and instead they are just given (like friend giving a friend his account) and in order to raise any red flags, the new owner decided to keep the old password.

By the way, have you compared the posts made in 2015 with those from 2017? How would you explain regress in the English level as people usually get better in foreign language through years or use, and not worse.
