1822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanging large amounts of BTC for FIAT on: March 16, 2023, 09:15:10 AM
My friend has an account in Binance, but he asked me if I thought it was safe? Binance in my opinion is, like every exchange, a piece of sh... So, is there any other way to go about doing what he needs? I even thought of sending him FIAT and letting him send me BTC, because I don't plan to sell my BTC soon.
Even though I have Binance account, went though KYC (had to do it to unlock account due lost 2FA), using their debit card for 2 years and never had any issues with them, I honestly still wouldn't trust them with larger amounts and would find some other way, most likely directly P2P.

There are some like Bisq that are very good decentralized exchange, but I do not know about their trading volume.
Well, since he mentioned that his friend wants to exchange large amounts Bisq is probably not the best way to do it if you wanna do it fast due their low volume so may end up losing a lot of money. Then again, if his friend is not in a hurry and has time, he can do it gradually little by little.

there may be improvement when meet reims, like you said, marseille aren't consistent on every match, sometime playing well but sometimes playing bad even they play in home. I just heard a coach just change a strategy to face reims, i don't know exactly, maybe they can get 3 points to reduce different point with PSG.
That's the downside of the Marseille play style and the way they defend. They play very attractive football that is fun to watch, with many players finishing actions but then again that puts them at risk like we saw more than once this season.

I think that Tudor already gave up on the title race after that debacle against PSG few weeks ago and his goal is to try finish in top 3 and qualify for CL next season (preferably finishing 2nd as it guarantess CL spot). With that being, since Marseille is the best away team and Reims is in a very good form, I think that draw is probably the more realistic and that's what I'll most likely bet on.
1824  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Uputstvo za korištenje Chipmixer-a on: March 16, 2023, 08:12:50 AM
Tko kaže da DS nije ta glavna riba? Smiley

$17 million in bitcoin for criminals connected to approximately 37 ransomware strains, including Sodinokibi, Mamba and Suncrypt;

Over $700 million in bitcoin associated with wallets designated as stolen funds, including those related to heists by North Korean cyber actors from Axie Infinity’s Ronin Bridge and Harmony’s Horizon Bridge in 2022 and 2020, respectively;

More than $200 million in bitcoin associated either directly or through intermediaries with darknet markets, including more than $60 million in bitcoin processed on behalf of customers of Hydra Market, the largest and longest running darknet market in the world until its April 2022 shutdown by U.S. and German law enforcement;

More than $35 million in bitcoin associated either directly or through intermediaries with “fraud shops,” which are used by criminals to buy and sell stolen credit cards, hacked account credentials and data stolen through network intrusions; and

Bitcoin used by the Russian General Staff Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), 85th Main Special Service Center, military unit 26165 (aka APT 28) to purchase infrastructure for the Drovorub malware, which was first disclosed in a joint cybersecurity advisory released by the FBI and National Security Agency in August 2020.

1825  Economy / Scam Accusations / [SCAM] Fake cloud miner on: March 15, 2023, 10:22:56 PM
What happened: as the title says, user is advertising fake cloud mining service that offers up to 60 BTC monthly profit. Everything is pretty obvious here as we know that something like that can be offered only by a ponzi scheme, which cloud mining websites usually are anyway.

Trebaš novi sig? Grin
Haha mozda. Imas neki prijedlog? Cheesy

Eno prije par mjeseci su uspjeli hackirati poznatog Bitcoin developera Luke Dashjr i uzeti mu 200+ BTCa, a covjek vjerojatno zna vise o sigurnosti i Bitcoinu opcenito nego 99.99% ljudi.

1827  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: March 15, 2023, 04:38:34 PM

Authorities from Germany and the U.S. have seized up to 44 million euros ($46.3 million) from ChipMixer, a noted cryptocurrency mixer, according to the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol).

The respective authorities took down the platform's infrastructure, seizing four servers, 7 terabytes of data and 1909.4 bitcoins (BTC) ($47.7 million), Europol said on Wednesday.

The seizure was also supported by Belgium, Poland and Switzerland.
1829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: March 15, 2023, 02:58:51 PM
It appears the Oscars have been looking for movies with happy endings for 2 years. It might be because of the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and other negative news.
I don't think that happy endings have much (if anytthing) with the reason why CODA and EEOAO won, or pandemic for that matter. I mean, 2021 year was even more depressive yet Nomadland (which wasn't a feel good movie either) won.

However, I speculate that Russia's invasion of Ukraine will not be avoidable and the threat of a nuclear war will be the biggest storyline in mainstream news media. On account of this, my next bet for best picture for the next Oscar awards is Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan who will be my bet for best director. Hollywood will be on the nuclear war fear agenda hehehehee.
Dunno, I am not so enthusiastic about Oppenheimer, mainly because its Nolan behind it and I don't like the way he writes characters in his movies. Somehow he manages to make me not care about them at all and I am not sure that's the best thing for biopic. Its been a while since he made a movie I liked.
1830  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: March 15, 2023, 02:01:42 PM
I think that the moderators will have a hard time deciding on a perma ban in case of suspicion that it is a post that was written with the help of AI. of course, except in cases where the user actually admits (unknowingly) that his post was actually written by AI.
If mods gonna wait for someone to slip and unknowingly admits to using the bot like in the case from yesterday, then things will soon get out of hands we might gonna get swarmed by these farmers. While it may be hard in some cases to notice chatbot users (e.g. older member that is native English speaker) in some cases its pretty obvious and imho admins shouldn't be so hesitant.

Just take for example that user lovesmayfamilis reported and difference in posts written on the same day, just 1 hour apart. I think that its pretty obvious what is going on here.

people should also consider that using their ERC20 compatible addresses on a new EVM-like chain, they always might have the risk for replay attacks, considering the private key is same on both chains, so if you have ethereum for example and you use same address on another new evm fork chain, you have the risk the recipient of a transaction in this chain, to also replay and steal your ETH on parent chain!

Bitcoin, the world’s first cryptocurrency, has been subject to numerous controversies and criticisms since its inception. One of the most common accusations levied against it is that it is a Ponzi scheme. While some people may believe this to be true, it is important to understand that Bitcoin is not a Ponzi scheme.

A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment scheme that pays returns to earlier investors using the capital of newer investors, rather than from profits generated by legitimate business activities. The scheme relies on the continuous recruitment of new investors to keep the payouts coming. Eventually, the scheme collapses when new investors are no longer attracted, and the earlier investors lose their money.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, is a decentralized digital currency that operates on a peer-to-peer network. It does not rely on the recruitment of new investors to generate returns. Instead, the value of Bitcoin is determined by the supply and demand of the market. The price fluctuates based on a number of factors, including market sentiment, economic news, and geopolitical events.

While Bitcoin itself is not a Ponzi scheme, bad actors have used it to perpetrate Ponzi schemes and other forms of investment fraud. These scams often promise high returns in a short amount of time and require individuals to invest their Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. The returns are paid out to earlier investors using the capital of newer investors, much like a traditional Ponzi scheme.

These scams are usually disguised as legitimate investment opportunities, such as mining operations, trading bots, or cryptocurrency exchanges. They often rely on slick marketing materials and persuasive sales tactics to lure in unsuspecting victims.

It is important for individuals to exercise caution and do their due diligence before investing in any scheme, whether it involves Bitcoin or not. This includes researching the company, its founders, and its business model. It is also important to understand that high returns with little risk are usually too good to be true.

In conclusion, while Bitcoin is not a Ponzi scheme, it has been used as a tool by bad actors to perpetrate investment fraud. It is important for individuals to be aware of the risks involved in investing in any scheme and to exercise caution when considering any investment opportunity. By doing so, they can protect themselves from falling victim to Ponzi schemes and other forms of investment fraud.

For now, I have chosen a different approach in the sense that if I suspect such a post, I warn others not to participate in such discussions. I'm not sure how good or bad that approach is, but something must be done against those AI bots.
Since a lot of members see new topic only as a place to dump their posts without regard of quality, somehow I doubt that many will listen to you and avoid engaging in topics started by chatbots. For now, I am leaving neutral tag to all those that I think are using chatbots. I doubt that will help but as you said, something has to be done.
1831  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best way to invest in BITCOIN on: March 15, 2023, 10:21:29 AM
Do you have to buy the coins leave it in your wallet for a while for it to add value or do you need to trade it
By far the best thing that you can do as a newbie is to store your bitcoin in your own non-custodial wallet and forget about trading. "buying low selling" high seems like an easy way to increase the amount of bitcoin, but its much harder than it looks and in majority of cases you will end up having less than you had when you started.

Can some one invest $100 to start or do you need more fund than this to start up any crypto investment
$100 dollar is perfectly Ok amount to start. Generally, only invest the amount you are comfortable with and don't feel pressure that you have to invest more than you can realistically can because despite everything, bitcoin is still a high risk investment and it may take a while before you are in profit.

1833  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: March 15, 2023, 08:16:46 AM
As I promised last week, here is this month's brief overview of the local boards activity. All charts and table are made thanks to @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space and I suggest to check those if you want more in depth look at the local boards situation.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan and Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards but I think that's just matter of time before those in charge realize that forum can only benefit from a couple of more local boards, like it happened with the recently created Nigerian board.

Post activity per local board during February 2023

During last month 13576 posts were made across 18 local boards, which is considerable 11% decrease compared to January 2023. Even though Russian board remained by the the most active one, more than a half of that decrease was due less activity in that board, followed by decrease in German and Indonesian boards.

On the other hand, its good to see that recently created Nigerian board keeps going strong and increasing its number, proving that creation of their board was the right move and I can see them reaching top 3 in the next few months if they continue like this. Its also fair to mention two other communities that are still waiting for their local board (Pakistan and Bangladesh) whose numbers are also pretty good and imho should get their own local board sooner than later.

Number of active members per local board during February 2023

Even though number of posts went down noticeably, same thing didn't happen with amount of active members (all those who wrote at least one post); from 1248 in January to 1232 in February which is a negligible 1% decrease. Then again, this number rarely changes much on the monthly basis so it was kinda expected not to change much despite the big decrease in the posting activity.

Since I did it for the yearly overview and last month's overview, I decided to continue with this chart in order paint a clearer picture (or at least try) of the local board situation when it comes to their member's posting habits.

Once again Indian board has by far the most members who wrote only 1 post (67%). followed by Romanian (62%) and Romanian & Greek that both had 50% of members that wrote only 1 post. When it comes to boards with the least amount of such members, Nigerian is leader with only 20%, followed by Pakistan (21%) and Portuguese (25%).

In the second bracket (2-9 posts), Bangladesh board with 53% is the leader, followed by Pilipinas (50%) and French (49%). On the other side, Romanian local board has the fewest of those members (only 15%), with Turkish and Arabic board behind them with 22% of those members.

In the 10+ posts bracket, this month's leader is Pakistan board with 53%, followed by Arabic ( 50%) and Turkish (46%) boards. When it comes to boards with the least percentage of such members, India leads with only 4 % (1 member), followed by Polish (7%) and Pilipinas (17%).

Merit shared per local board during February 2023

Since amount of posts dropped down significantly, its no surprise that same thing happened with amount of merits shared too. During January 6552 merits were shared while that number dropped to 5214 during last month, which is a huge 20% decrease.

Once again such a significant drop happened mainly because of the last month's two leading boards, Russian that had a huge drop from 1501 merits shared to only 859 during last month and German that went down almost 50% (from 880 to 444). I would like to hear from people in that board what exactly happen, did one of their merit sources stopped being active as that's one of the reason that could lead to such a sharp decline.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during February 2023

As always, pretty much straightforward chart where local boards are sorted according to the amount of merits shared. If you would like me to use some other criteria (maybe amount of senders or receivers ?), do let me know and I'll think about it.

Some local boards like Nigerian and Pilipinas traditionally stick out from the others, meaning they have a lot of members being part of the merit system, relative to the amount of merits shared.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for February 2023

And last but not the least in this series of chart, merit/post ratio. Since amount of merits went down more than amount of posts (20% vs 11%), no surprise that merits/post ratio went down as well and for the first time in a long time 12 months average was higher than last month's for many boards. Despite this month's drop, things generally still look good for majority of boards, while some could obviously use more merit sources so their members might wanna consider applying for a merit source status.

Local Board post race

Thanks to @bitmover, here is the animnated local board post race chart.

The most active members per local board during February 2023

For the end of this month local board overview, list of the top 10 active members across 18 local boards (to be more precise 16 locals + to more that are aiming for that).

After finishing 3rd last month, joker_josue managed to get back his usual first spot with 213 posts written in his local board (Portuguese), 2nd is Smartprofit (who was 1st last month) from Russian board with 196 posts while DdmrDdmr from Spanish board and Ratimov from Russian board share the 3rd spot with 187 posts each. Kudos guys, keep it up!

One member recently opened up a topic in Services section wanting exactly that, to buy empty ETH addresses. Here is his explanation and its probably true.

Basically I want to participate in new incentivised testnets and they tend to reject wallets that are pretty recent as they think you might be a bot.

Which is why I'm looking for old wallets preferably with activity

Hope that clears things up  Smiley

And the fact is I try confusing one of them that the wallet they bought doesn't entirely belong to them, because the sellers still have access to the wallet since they know the recovery seed.
True, that seems like a logical problem and he had an anseerr for that too.

The testnets I want to do, you deposit crypto on their platform and the wallet is just used to sign messages and approve transactions so it's not a huge risk for me

Another major development and announcement from binance is that they will be converting their 1 billion dollar reserves from BUSD to BTC, ETH and BNB.
This means they are serious and do not want to become victim, in case stable coin crisis continues in the future.
If CZ was indeed serious and genuinly wanted to protect his users he would put the whole 1 billion USD into bitcoin only and not spread it across two other altcoins. I could even somewhat understand if he decided to divide that billion USD between BTC and ETH (with latter being a minor part) but putting money into BNB doesn't make much sense to me and its not much better than BUSD. Imagine what will happen with BNB price if Binance gets hacked for a serious amount of money, and how much that BNB part of "SAFU" fund will worth after that?

It it maybe known how exactly he didvided 1 billion, how much went into each cryptocurency?

As far as I know, he is the first member on the forum to publicly admit that he is an artificial (non)intelligence language model.  Grin
Lol indeed.

Looks like bot glitched because he left 10 posts today in the same topic, most of them written one after the another without any intercation with other members. All posts that breake forum rule are reported and if it that is not enough to nuke that shitposter than i don't know what it is.

Grin

Pogledah Sibirskog berberina opet posle mozda 15god.

Lol buddy, not even chatbot can't save you from your own stupidity as you just revealed that it wasn't you who wrote that post. Better luck next time when you create another alt account with purpose of spamming that chatbot crap.

While checking Beginners & Help section I stumbled upon a post that looked like its been copied from somewhere or used one of those chatbots. Since I coulnd't find the original source of that post I decided to check that member's post history and it looks like he is indeed using chatbot since he forgot to delete that first part where its revealed that bot wrote his post. What a fail lol.

Could this be proof enough to ban someone?

1840  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase to Suspend Binance USD (BUSD) Trading on: March 14, 2023, 10:40:00 AM
Seems like coinbase have officially removed BUSD pair trading starting today according to their most recent tweet.
So, does this now mean that binance and coinbase are no longer friends and won't support each other in any further crisis in the future ?
I think it has more to do Paxos not being able to mint BUSD anymore than Coinbase trying to hurt Binance. Since BUSD has no future and users are ditching it, it makes sense for Coinbase to remove it completely. After all, CZ also announced that Binance will have to move away from BUSD and start removing BUSD trading pairs eventually.

Btw, Im just curious whom do you guys support if you wanna have stables (just for trading purpose)? USDC or BUSD ? Im pretty confused but I do use binance myself here currently.
If someone really forced me to decide, I would probably chose USDT over either of those as it seems least likely to go down. At this point, having anything in stablecoins is very risky, especially if you are hodling it for more than a day or two.
