2281  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 11, 2023, 08:00:46 AM
Ke Huy Quan won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor for the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once. The first name he mentioned in his thank you speech was Steven Spielberg and Spielberg acknowledged him. Are you scratching your head? You should watch Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom again hehehehehe. Ke Huy Quan was the actor playing the role of Short Round.
Hah I had no idea that actor was Short Round, and I watched both movies in the last few months. Usually when I like the movie I check on IMDb to find more about actors/director/screenwriters if they are unknown to me, but since I stopped Everything Everywhere All At Once somewehre in the middle as I just couldn't stand all that chaos, I never bothered to check it. Anyway, thanks for that info.

For those interested, here is the link with all Golden Globe winners, it may help you choosing Oscar bets https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/golden-globes-2023-winners-list-1235294541/
2282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Sam Bankman-Fried go to jail? on: January 10, 2023, 10:54:42 PM
Luna' s founder was jailed after some month later of the collapsed of stable coin.

South Korea issued an arrest warrant for Do Kwon last September but he is still on the run. Latest news is that he is currently hiding in Europe (Serbia) so no jail for him yet.

As for the FTX founder, I don't think he will be jailed.
I was pessimistic at first too, but after how buddies pleaded guilty and getting away with fines and no prison as long as they cooperate, I don't think that the will avoid some jail time alltogether. I don't expect him getting like 30 years in prison, but I can see him spending couple of years in a minimum security prison.
2283  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: January 10, 2023, 07:07:27 PM
I think there should be some pop-up option for categories in a report. Those options should be defining the state of the report, and the member reporting would have to select the option that describes what the report is all about before submitting.
There is already something relatively similar but not as part of the forum and instead as a browser extension, suchmoons's One-click mod report, not for the faint of heart .

Additionally, every time you make a comment when reporting a post, it is saved so all you have to do to get an option is to enter first letter of your report in order to get all of them. So for example, if you reported post by writing "Low value post", next time all you have to do is enter "l" in the comment section and it will offer you that, and all other comments that start with "L". It makes a difference when you are mass reporting, trust me.
2284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Sam Bankman-Fried go to jail? on: January 10, 2023, 06:44:55 PM
But why would a recognized criminal stay this long without being sentenced already, this is pure wickedness.
This long? FTX fiasco happened few months ago and he was just recently charged so its not like we are waiting for years something to happened. Or you think all this procedure, presumption of innocence etc should be forgotten and people instantly sentenced to life in jail/hand cut off for theft like in some backward country?

My wishes are not harsh but for him to serve as a scapegoat to others who thinks money laundering and internet fraud shouldn't be tackled roughly.
Bernie Madoff got 150 years for his pozni scheme, so its not like scams haven;t been dealt with in the past. Its just that SBF thought that he can get away with it and even if he gets harsh sentence, it won't stop someone else from doing something similar in the future.
2285  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Acquiring bitcoin with cash - what, why, how on: January 10, 2023, 12:14:09 PM
Does the UK still have crypto atms? I read they were being considered "unauthorised" but don't know if they were actually banned or if it was more something the fca put out in writing.
According to Coin ATM Radar, there's at least 24 left so I guess some of the companies registered with FCA in order to continue the business.

Yes, but I don't want to mess relationships with bitcoin trades, as I may bring them to an uncomfortable situation. No friend is ever going to charge me for like 10% above the average, while he should to, according to the market price. Nor would I want to sell bitcoin for cash whenever a friend requested it in the same price.
Did you have some bad experience in the past that makes you so reluctant to trade bitcoin with friends? I am asking because I am trading with friends for years and never really had any issues. We use Coingecko to determine the price and buy/sell according to that, without any fees of course. I even met with strangers to do transactions and again never had any issues whatsoever and every trade was done without the fee, whether I was buying or selling.
2286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: age 28 is it too late or not to invest in bitcoin.? on: January 10, 2023, 11:18:00 AM
28 yo being too late to invest in bitcoin? Maybe if we lived in middle ages when life span was ~30 years, but luckily that's not the case. The things I am gonna hear on the forum...  Cheesy

Seriously, I would say that 28 yo is the perfect time to start investing because if you are much younger than that, you probably don't even have much extra money to invest in because it takes time to finish education and find yourself a good job that can enable you that. Don't stress yourself with that and instead seize the opportunity to acquire bitcoin at discount.

Permban request

Not a plagiarizer, but an obvious spammer.

2288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 10, 2023, 08:13:02 AM
There are some differences in odds of the Oscar awards in different categories. For best actor, the Golden Globe awards have Austin Butler as a very big favorite for his performance as an actor in a drama role in Elvis. The odds for him in the Oscar awards is 4.00.
I suspect Austin Butler being such a big favorite has something with Brendan Fraser saying that he won't attend the Golden Globe ceremony even if he gets nominated because he claimed to be sexually assaulted back in 2003 by the former Golden Globes president Philip Berk so I guess that's their way of getting back at him.

Colin Farrell is another very big favorite for his acting in a comedy in the Banshees of Inisherin with odds of 1.09, however, his odds for best actor in the Oscar awards is 3.00.
In this case, odds are so different because Oscar has only one best actor category so there he has to go against Brendan Fraser.

2289  Economy / Reputation / Re: I've been hacked on: January 09, 2023, 09:40:52 PM
What a clusterfuck, to say the least.

So if julerz12 told YoMix the escrow funds are stored in a hardware wallet then why is he using the Electrum hot wallet? Was this from a  on purpose?
You misunderstood something here. julerz12 was using Ledger for his own salary while funds for campaign were on his hot wallet (Electrum). And yes, it was very irresponsible to use hot wallet for the sake of convenience but it is what it is. Lesson learned the hard way.
2290  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Texas Bitcoin Foundation in Richardson, Texas, United States on: January 09, 2023, 08:45:07 PM
There is enough evidence to support the scam accusation, such as the fact that they solicit "donations" but the only event they have ever held is a "TBF Launch Happy Hour" with caviar and champagne:
https://www.txbitcoinfoundation.org/events
Looking at the photos, and it doesn't look to me like "caviar and champagne" type of event. I see people in casual clothes drinking coke & bear from a can and eating donuts. And please, for the love of God, use the default font size as there's really no need to use those big letters for the whole post.

To me, it appears that the Texas Bitcoin Foundation will eat your entire donation rather than providing any educational activities at all.
Well, they won't spend my money on donuts and coke (since I have no intention to donate) but I do see that they partnered with Texas State Technical College so maybe they plan to do something via them.
2291  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: XQtraders turned out to be scam on: January 09, 2023, 05:30:18 PM

I am storing it in crypto.com
Not your keys, not your coins. Exchanges are for exchanging, not storing.

Anyway, you should move it to your own non-custodial wallet (preferably hardware wallet, since they are not really expensive) as after everything that has happened lately with exchanges and platforms, its simply not worth to risk to keep it there and crypto.com is definitely not too big not to fail (no one is for that matter, including the biggest exchanges like Coinbase and Binance).
2292  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Texas Bitcoin Foundation in Richardson, Texas, United States on: January 09, 2023, 03:51:59 PM
To me looks like the Texas Bitcoin Foundation is a scam.
Can you please share some evidence why you think that they are scam because you haven't provided any absolutely any evidence to back up your claim.

From what I can see, they are some sort of non-profit organization to educate people about Bitcoin. They do not sell anything or promise return on investment or anything of that sort so I don't know how you got the impression that they are scam.
2293  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: January 09, 2023, 03:43:41 PM
Ovo mi baš ''ne drži vodu'' da kao ne vide sadržaj osobnih poruka koje šaljemo a onda, ako se pošalje prijava, onda najednom mogu vidjeti sadržaj tih poruka. To mi baš nije logično.

2294  Other / Meta / Re: Request: New Local Board for Pakistan (Urdu) on: January 09, 2023, 03:10:05 PM
That's true local boards are hard to moderate but in the case of Urdu language it can easily be translated from Google and this translation is almost perfect, it's very advanced now. Google is really doing a great job in translating languages now. So I guess from the management perspective it should not be any different from managing any other language board like Arabic or Hindi for example.
Some local boards are functioning pretty good for years without having their own moderator who is a native speaker so that's not a problem at all. For example, Croatian local board had Lauda as mod but then for some reason he was either removed/he asked to be removed due some drama (I don't know the details as it was before my time) and we never got the new one. We asked for a new one but our request was never approved, probably because our local is very clean and we don't have much spam, therefore not much work for mods.

With that being said, of course it would be much better if each local has its own mod as I think mods could be more than just a forum police, but its possible to have decently organized and clean board even without it.
2295  Other / Meta / Re: BAN APPEAL on: January 09, 2023, 09:19:43 AM
Sorry, just didn't know, I create alternative because my first account was banned due to asking abut altcoin in a forum with copy and pasting from coinmarket. I thought I will not get it ever. Because of the thing that I have been done by not clearly know the posting policy here. So that mean I don't have any chance to get any of my accounts? That mean my journey is end in here.  Embarrassed
Since ignorance is not a valid excuse for breaking forum rules and I doubt that you can prove your activity on this forum has been net positive, chances of you getting back any of your accounts are 0.
2296  Other / Meta / Re: Turn off warn for new replies made while posting on: January 09, 2023, 09:14:38 AM
For me, turn off the new replies isn't good because posting in this forum isn't a competition to create the fastest post, you're need to create a high quality post and if there's user who beat you above, it mean you need to review his post and if he wrote something wrong, you can correct it.
It shouldn't be a competition, but it is due simple fact that earlier you reply to OP (given that post is somewhat decent), the bigger chances for getting merit so I am pretty sure that there are people who are stalking boards spamming f5.

I had no idea that its possible to turn off that warning message and no one (well at least not me) really like to see it, but I'll keep it on anyway as I try to not exactly repeat something that has been said already, which can happen. Yeah sure, I know that you can edit the post, but still...
2297  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 09, 2023, 08:08:52 AM
Interestingly, those who bet on winners in nominations where there are no obvious favorites are guided by what? It is impossible to guess what is in the head of academicians, box office receipts and public ratings also do not matter. Does intuition (gambling) remain?
In those cases its more about the guesstimate I think. If you follow Oscars and general Hollywood tendencies, you can (to some degree) figure out what could Academia people vote for. I personally make 2 tickets each year: one is based on those who I think will win, while another one is based solely on those I would like to win.

Yes, was that when black lives matter was always on the news? The members of the academy might have decided not to put more fuel on the issue by not voting for the black actor hehe.
True, it was at the height of BLM craziness so everyone expected Chadwick Boseman to win, which caused many people to lose money, even though it was a bad bet with an awful R:R ratio obvious to everyone who saw Hopkins performance.

The last Oscar awards also had some surprises. Best picture favorite last year was Temple of the Dog but it was Coda that won, there was also the year when the movie Green Book won for best picture instead of the favorite Roma.
Yep, both Coda and Green Book undeservedly won; Coda was a decent movie but still just a remake of a French movie made few years ago and inferior to Dog and Dune (I will never understand academy being so reluctant to give SF movie a best picture award and instead always playing it safe with dramas). Regarding Green Book, it was another solid movie but imho Roma was vastly superior (and one my favorite movies in the last few years) but we know that Academia has its own agenda.

In any case, this look for changes in the odds after the Golden Globe awards on January 10. Some of the big changes could be something similar to trading signals.
Situation will be much clearer after that, but the odds are better now.  Wink
2298  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: January 09, 2023, 07:45:23 AM
SBF will have no such possible deal available to him, so his best defense is to plead not guilty and let his lawyers come up with some sort of a case to lessen his sentence.
Isn't that the extra risk since Caroline Ellison pleaded guilty for 7/8 charges that SBF is charged with (afaik the only one that she wasn't charged with was "Conspiracy to defraud the United States and violate the campaign law") so chances of him getting acquitted for any of those seven charges are slim to none as his (ex?) girlfriend will get away with fine (and of course losing all the assets acquired via FTX/Alameda) as long as she cooperates with the prosecutor so you can imagine what she will say about his involvement.

Pleading guilty might be just the tactic to buy some extra time before he pleads guilty as well and ending up with a ridiculously low sentence like few years in a minimum security prison.
2299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How profitable it is possible to invest in bitcoins in the new year 2023. on: January 09, 2023, 07:00:43 AM
I am interested in investing but I don't have that much experience in investing and am not able to gain good knowledge by doing research. I saw the Bitcoin market was very dumping in late 2022. But now in 2023 the market is increasing again little by little.
You chose a very time to enter the market since bitcoin price is far from the all time high and what's even more important, you chose the right cryptocurrency. Many newbies are attracted by various alts, thinking that they are too late to invest in bitcoin now, while in reality they should invest in bitcoin only since they have no idea how market works.

How should I start investing right now, should I start with a small amount of money or should I start with a lot of money?
Its probably the best to start with smaller amount to get yourself familiar with bitcoin, especially how to securely store it which is yet again something that a lot of newbies fail at. Once you get more comfortable to send/receive/store bitcoin, you should proceed with getting bigger amounts, but only if you have some money on the side that you don't need to everyday expenses as you may have to wait for years to profit.
2300  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: XQtraders turned out to be scam on: January 09, 2023, 06:47:31 AM

I am using crypto.com Dollar cost averaging.
Are you storing your bitcoin on crypto.com or you are sending it to your own non-custodial wallet? I am asking because while crypto.com is legit and had a decent reputation (just a reminder that FTX was the same) its still not the safest place to store your coins and shouldn't be used for that purpose otherwise you are risking losing your coins again.
