2001  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your profit taking strategy? on: February 20, 2023, 05:17:07 PM
I used to have (or at least I thought that I had) a profit staking strategy but then I realized that every time bitcoin would reach my set price, I would sell only a small portion of what I initially planned and just kept hodling the rest while waiting for another bull run. So far this tactic worked great and I have way more bitcoin that I thought I would several years ago.

With that being said, I do spend bitcoin on the regular basis on everyday stuff (monthly sub for VPN, IPTV, Netflix, Disney etc - some are done directly with bitcoin and some via crypto debit card) and I try to time big expenses when (house renovation, new car etc) I think that bitcoin price is high enough.
2002  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 20, 2023, 04:40:34 PM
I can see cinematography going to AQOTWF because that really has some great ones, there is no doubt about that and I would give them that. But the best movie? Really? I do not think that it was the best movie at all, I do not think that it was even in the top two for me, hell probably top three.
If you don't think that All Quiet on the Western Front wouldn't be a worthy winner, what would you say about the last year's winner CODA (an average remake of an already average french movie made few years earlier)? Even better, take a look at the last 10-15 winners and name me a few that will be remembered in a few decades as great movies? Just to add that its not the best movie of the last year for me neither, but it wouldn't be undeserved if it wins in the end as we had far worse movies winning in the past.

In any case, just because a movie won the BAFTA, doesn't mean they are getting the Oscars, I think that is as irrelevant as it could get.
Of course it doesn't and I don't think that anyone said that. All it does is affects the odds slightly and that's about it.
2003  Other / Meta / Re: Why not force bounties off site? on: February 20, 2023, 03:14:41 PM

This whole post is utterly useless. And there are millions of them!
I might be wrong here, but I think those "proof of authentication" post are seen as similar to the signature campaign applications so that might be the reason why they don't get deleted even if you report them. And I don't think that bounty hunters get any tokens in exchange for writing them so it can't be seen as breaking the rule about incentivizing posting.

Insisting on useless bounty reports posts, they actually stimulate further spam. and I'm almost sure that none of the managers checks every report and every link posted.
Imho, the main reason why bounty managers still stick to bounty reports inside bounty topics instead doing it via Google form is because that way their bounty campaign gets bumped to the topic, making it visible to other bounty hunters. I mean, that seems like the only logical reason to still insist on them because Google form makes way more sense if you want to make your job as easy as possible.

The main problem why it's spam because there's no limit for the participants, maybe in the future theymos would add restrictions to force at least Member rank to join or have specific maximum participants.
Not gonna happen as theymos is not a fan of any type of newbie jail. After all, why should forum staff even have to deal with that, it should be bounty manager's job to sort it out.
2004  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Will it be considered as Ponzi (Strange Bank) on: February 20, 2023, 09:53:57 AM
Okay thank you for the hint, I never knew how to become a DT member though I was thinking is due to your availability and activeness on the forum or that automatically makes one a DT member. I think I have got an insight of how it works now.
In that case I think that you might wanna read LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system so you have a full understanding on how it works before you start sharing feedbacks and adding/removing people on your Trust list.
2005  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: February 20, 2023, 09:51:26 AM
I use the Grammerly app, which I installed on my PC and use for research and writing; it helps me suggest possible sentence corrections, comma punctuation marks, and all that.

I want to know if this kind of correction is considered AI generated.
Open to learning and also taking corrections thanks.
Grammarly is used to correct the grammar mistakes in the text written by yourself, you don't have to worry that you will be accused of plagiarism. On the other hand, chatbots like ChatGPT write texts by themselves so in that case it may be considered plagiarism if you try to pass it as your own.
2006  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Will it be considered as Ponzi (Strange Bank) on: February 20, 2023, 09:19:40 AM
Well I would have done that but due to I am not a DT member I can't just give tag. So if there's anything that needs to be tag I will request those DT members to tag them.
Just because you are not on DT yet doesn't mean that you shouldn't leave feedback. The only way to end up there is by DT member adding you on his Trust list and that won't happen until you start leaving feedbacks. So, if you think that someone is scammer, leave appropriate feedback.

The returns is obviously noticable, how can a project offers promise to offer 10k return of investment how does it sound to your hearing. Legit or fake?
They offer return in their tokens (and they can mint those as much as needed) not in other currency that they don't control. Whether those kind of shitcoins can have any value is another question, to which answer is quite obvious.
2007  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 20, 2023, 08:23:01 AM
I am quite certain that there will be leaks of information and it will show another change in the odds. If All Quiet has another reduction of odds, we can speculate that the Hollywood agenda is presently an antiwar agenda hehehe.
Since you keep speculating that Hollywood might push anti-war agenda this year, did you bet on All Quiet yet before odds go more down? Btw, its interesting to see that Everything Everywhere All at Once won only 1 BAFTA so I am glad that Brits (like me) weren't impressed with that movie. Cheesy

All quiet on the Western Front is one of a kind.
Its hardly one of a kind since there's at least two earlier versions of the same movie.

2008  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: February 20, 2023, 08:07:40 AM
@Rikafip. There might be a twist in the ending of this movie if Sam Bankrupt-Fraud's backers remain in support of him. It might become Sam being the witness against those who have already pleaded guilty because the backers cannot allow Sam to be the person on trial because if he pressured enough, he might begin talking and become a whistleblower on a much bigger conspiracy that might include people from the Democratic party, moneylaundering and the war in Ukraine.
If there is a much bigger conspiracy and if those involved are afraid of him talking, he will be dealt with in the same way Epstein was as that's the only way to be absolutely sure he will keep quiet. So no, I don't believe  in that scenario in which SBF testifies against those who already pleaded guilty and have deals with prosecution not to go to jail if they cooperate.

Edit: some good news coming for FTX Japan users as allegedly they will be able to start withdrawing their money by the end of this month.

According to a Feb. 17 report from Bloomberg, FTX Japan sent out notifications asking users to verify their account balances as part of the process to begin allowing withdrawals. Seth Melamed, chief operating officer of the exchange, reportedly said users could transfer assets to accounts on the FTX-owned Liquid Global platform, with withdrawals expected to begin “very soon.”

News outlet NHK reported that FTX Japan had roughly 19.6 billion yen in cash — more than $138 million at the time — when it ceased operations in November
2009  Other / Meta / Re: Can I pleaaaseeee change my name on: February 20, 2023, 07:58:00 AM
Since you created that account yesterday, wouldn't it be easier to just abandon it and create a new one instead? Its not like you put much effort into it so you would lose something.
2010  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 19, 2023, 10:14:52 PM

2011  Other / Meta / Re: Why not force bounties off site? on: February 19, 2023, 02:13:48 PM
If you want to know why bounties are tolerated on the forum, you might wanna read the theymos take on the subject and why its very unlikely that they gonna be removed any time soon. Introduction of merit system stopped those spammers from ever reaching higher ranks and I think that theymos is satisfied with that.

The things on the forum which encourage spam are allowed mainly because it's part of the forum's mission to be as free as possible. Eg. banning bounties would undoubtedly reduce spam, but that'd be destroying an entire economy/population/culture which has been able to develop due to the forum's freedom. I am willing to take this sort of action, but only as an absolute last resort. It's always preferable to handle these problems by reshaping the environment to make them non-problems, rather than removing some freedom.

I think bounties are the biggest problem the forum faces and we are not doing enough about it.
If that's the biggest problem that means bitcointalk doesn't have serious problems at all.

2012  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Will it be considered as Ponzi (Strange Bank) on: February 19, 2023, 11:30:40 AM
This looks to me like another version of those DeFi projects that offered crazy high APY.

The key thing here is that they guarantee 10,000x return in their own shitcoin (and not dollars or bitcoin) that they can mint as much as possible, so in the end you may get return as advertised. The only problem here is that those shitcoins will be of course worthless.

2013  Other / Meta / Re: The curious case of sticky topics created by authors with negative Trust on: February 19, 2023, 10:20:22 AM
The creation of special account is to avoid of having negative feedback since it will only be used for such purpose since the main issue here is the account/s of having negative trusts/tag because mods even admins can be tagged, like who knows they are not inevitable from that.
Let's say one of the forum staff creates an account for that specific purpose and at some point in time he gets tagged for something (on his main account). Since this new account is connected with his main one, it will automatically get tagged as well. Therefore, creating new account just for that makes no sense to me and its unnecessary complication.
In the end, you can't 100% prevent an account getting negative feedback due way trust system works.
2014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bahrainian Hotel accepts bitcoin Payment on: February 19, 2023, 09:47:20 AM
This is good for adoption but there's one downside; the users must create Binance accounts if they haven't already. So if you have your BTC in your Electrum wallet, for instance, you can't pay and you must first transfer them to your Binance account.
That's quite a big downside if you ask me and one of the worst crypto payment implementations I've seen lately. I thought that Binance is there just to exchange crypto to fiat and not to be an actual requirement in order to pay with crypto.
2015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bahrainian Hotel accepts bitcoin Payment on: February 19, 2023, 08:57:57 AM
That’s really a great news for all the Bitcointalk community. My only concern is that, is Bitcoin legal at Bahrain ? If it is, then there won’t be any problem for the hotel to use Bitcoins as a payment. But will they able to deal with the inflation and price fluctuations of Bitcoins?
They are not accepting bitcoin directly but instead they are using 3rd party service to do that for them so they won't have to worry about storing bitcoin, its volatility etc as in the end they will get fiat. And if its not legal, do you think that they would offer that kind of service?

Having said that, I don't think that this news is worthy of a topic anymore tbh. Maybe if it happened 7-8 years ago or if they accepted bitcoin directly, but like this not really (still good news though).
2016  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 19, 2023, 08:47:53 AM
Banning petrol/diesel cars by 2035 seems like a pretty drastic measure. I don't think that the EV industry is going to fully replace the conventional cars in such short time frame. 12 years isn't enough. Li-Ion batteries simply aren't good enough and they have to be replaced by new batteries.
They don't plan to ban the sale of all petrol/diesel cars by 2035, but instead the sale of new cars. If they really go through this idea, I can see people massively switching to used cars instead of buying new electric ones, at least in the less developed EU countries like mine.

Overall its just a stupid idea and nothing but a dream but they just don't realize it yet.
2017  Other / Meta / Re: The curious case of sticky topics created by authors with negative Trust on: February 19, 2023, 08:35:03 AM
Permanent solution could be an admin/mods made account (or just them) that is only for this kind of topics (pinned topic). This thread can be edited by mods as well so it will be easy to edit it when it becomes outdated just need a reminder.
Creating special account just for pinned posts is kinda over complicating the issue and it would be more elegant if they just did it by themselves on their own main accounts. After all, how often mods get tagged for scams?

May be I messed up my memory but as far as I remember the plagiarism thing happened a long time ago and after discovering it we also passed long years. When Lauda asked for banning herself, at that time there were nothing existed, she was doing well and the good bye thread came just suddenly. Again I may messed up my memory, after all I am ageing 🤣
Iirc plagiarized posts were made in 2015 and they were discovered in 2020 so yeah I think you are right. And then few months after the discovery, Lauda decided to leave the forum . Since he didn't get any sort of ban in the meantime I am not so sure that was the main reason for leaving. Unless he felt kinda embarrassed with all that mess since he was very strict when other plagiarized and decided to leave.

2018  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 18, 2023, 07:01:40 PM
Yes, I saw a few clip of the top gun movie on TikTok. It shows that they didn't use a CGI there or green screens but tom did actually hang on a real plane and it was moving upwards though it has a harness (obviously) and maybe a parachute just in case something goes wrong. I haven't seen a clip where it flew/drive a plane but if that was also done for real then that's epic.
I think you got a little bit confused because what you just described (Tom Cruise hanging off the plane while its taking off) was from Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation, and not the latest Top Gun. That scene is crazy though and just shows how dedicated (and crazy) he is.

However tom already have some experience because he also play the same role in the first top gun movie which was released on 1986, and maybe he also own a plane because he is a rich guy. Even if they don't win, I think they still remain a winner on the hearts of many people.
He does own several planes and while he was not allowed by military to fly F18 in the latest Top Gun, he flew for real his own P-51 Mustang in the movie. As a matter of fact, all main actors were actually in the plane and controlling the cameras doing action scenes and that tells you how much effort has been put into this movie. Just for that I would like it to win a couple of technical Oscars because we really need more of that old school approach and less CGI crap.
2019  Other / Meta / Re: 5700+ posts, 1000+ activity, 0 Merit, Still Newbie. Ver2023 on: February 18, 2023, 06:13:34 PM
I'd like to see something like earn x amount of merit in y period, and you can post there.
In that case you might as well close bounty child board as there would be no one left to do them.

By far the most elegant solution would be if bounty managers required bounty hunters to be at least Jr Member/Member to join, but since that is not in their interest of course they won't do it. Its all about the numbers and there's no other way to get those without army of newbie alts.

You misunderstood, these users are not rewarded for their posts in this thread. They post reports about received remunerations in HYIP projects, in which they participate. Also rewards from Profit-Hunters BIZ project for participation in various quizzes, referral rewards and rewards received in various bounties. Thus, they confirm that these projects are not some kind of scams, but normally working projects where you can earn money.
All I see there are bunch of newbie accounts sharing "proof" that those scammy sites are paying out. No constructive discussions there of any sort, just newbie accounts spam and I see no reason why that shouldn't be deleted since it adds no value at all. Or maybe I don't fully understand how that exactly works and what the hell are they doing there.
2020  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Bitcoin on: February 18, 2023, 10:16:43 AM
Because according to my research most crypto miners use cloud mining
What do you think?
I have no idea how you came to that conclusion, but you should forget about cloud mining because in 99.99% of the cases its nothing but a scam wrapped up in so called "cloud mining" in order to attract ignorant and naive people, while in reality nothing has been mined. Instead, those cloud mining services pay the older users with the money deposited by the new meaning they operate as a ponzi scheme.

on the other hand, cloud mining don't require that much focus and  can be done on any devices. you can also mine any cryptocurrency of your choice using what is called the "hash rates" which can be used to measure the computing power of mining rigs.

If you want it to be even easier you should buy crypto directly, instead of bothering with cloud mining that is scam anyway.
