2081  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 09, 2023, 10:04:53 PM
I think the best movie of this year was Avatar and I haven't even seen it, you know why? It grossed over 2 billion dollars, that should tell you why it was the "best" movie, that's what people thinks.
Not sure if trolling or serious. Probably the latter so I will continue.

Earlier in your post you said "we are no longer in the worlds of godfather winning type of thing" and then you go on and suggest that the best movie should be the one that made most money. While its true for Godfather (first part only), vast majority of Best Picture winners were never those that were at the top of box office (not even in the probably the best movie decade ever, 1970s) and not even the Godfather 2  which was arguably  better than the first part and it was the first sequel ever that won Best Picture award. What you suggest would be even worse than how it is now as all we would get is even more thrash.

Unlike you, I actually went to cinema and watched Avatar 2 and its a very average movie, even boring at times (honestly I couldn't wait it to finish). While first Avatar had unoriginal story but visually it was something new that we haven't seen before, 2nd part had even worse scenario and visual component wasn't really that impressive and new as it was the first time.
2082  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto transaction aggregator for income tax purposes on: February 09, 2023, 08:42:22 PM
I do think exchanges should start to offer these sorts of services themselves as it makes things very hard to declare and to actually work out what you've made an income/profit on (the good exchanges do seem fairly helpful though and a message to their support might get you what you need fast enough if they can).
As a matter of fact, earlier this week Binance announced their new tool called Binance Tax. It is still in a sort of test phase so for now its only available to users in France and Canada but its just a matter of time before they expand the service to other countries. Just a matter of time before other major exchanges offer the same.

2083  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin ATM Operator Coin Cloud Files for Bankruptcy on: February 09, 2023, 05:14:03 PM
It looks like this happened because of their connection with Genesis Global Trading who had financial problems recently and they are one of the biggest creditors for CoinCloud.
Well, looks like $100M they got from them wasn't enough to keep them alive. Maybe they expanded too quickly and then the bear market came so in the end they got into problems. Or they were spending money in a stupid way as I saw they even hired Spike Lee to make them commercial, which probably wasn't cheap.

Maybe there is still hope someone could buy them for a good discount price and ATM's could continue operating with rebranding.
Well, all those ATM for sure worth something so someone will probably buy them out but I don't think that it will be easy to find someone willing to just take over the whole business as they have huge amount of ATMs and I don't think that you can put BATM just about anywhere and expect to make a profit.

I think having Bitcoin ATM option is still very important, maybe they don't offer lowest fees but sometimes this is the quickest way to exchange Bitcoin for cash.
I do hope that they survive as well, but there is another "problem" with them (at least for me) : they are often located inside some other business and not right outside on the street (I used BATM in several EU countries and never saw it right outside) like a regular ATM so when you need money in some weird hour or during the weekend, you may not be able to access it. And that should be one of the main ATM advantages.
2084  Economy / Economics / Re: Dubai is good example to other countries on: February 09, 2023, 12:34:14 PM
No taxes it's off course it's country with build cheap laoubour but at least people who got money can enjoy the fullest Life in there.
Bold part is very subjective. I've been to Dubai once, spent week there and honestly I never plan to go back. I wasn't impressed with absolutely anything there and the worst of all was the climate. And I wasn't even visiting Dubai during summer and it was hell. That is literally one of the last places in the world I would spend my time in if I had shit load of money.

Sure, city is good for business (especially if you are starting a crypto related business) but everything outside that is just awful as for me its completely soulless (expect the old part where gold market is) and artificial. Maybe if I was 15-20 years younger I would have a different opinion but at this point in life I value some other things more.
2085  Economy / Reputation / Re: Isn't that cheating? on: February 09, 2023, 12:01:29 PM
I wonder how did this thing slip through, it's not even that much of a changed image, a simple google reverse search will return tens of results.
The first thing I noticed is the name. Every time I see one of these "crypto marketing experts" with generic names like Adam Anderson or Joe Johnston, I immediately smell bullshit even before I see the the profile pic, and that was exactly the case here.

And the whole thing is really fishy: https://www.egold.farm/
So you buy plans of virtual hashes like in Farmville and this is supposed to earn you some virtual money that you can exchange only on their platform.  This is going to end badly.
Yep, it really looks bad. Add on that anonymous team and you get the recipe for a disaster.

Another thing off topic that bothers me is how bounty hunters say "I worked hard". This is the funniest thing to read because I in fact know that it literally takes 1 minute to like a tweet, retweet it, and share the link. There is nothing hard about it. The same thing goes for facebook. Things like articles aren't even very hard because most just copy the info from the company website and post it to various other social media sites. IMO the hardest thing for bounty hunters is those that do original videos. At least some of them do their own work, but you notice a lot of duplicates while grading those as well.
And yet this farce goes on. Can you imagine someone investing because they somehow stumbled upon an illiterate article on some obscure platform or after watching a poor quality YT video made by some guy who you can barely understand because he used built-in laptop mic. I would really like to witness the negotiations between bounty managers and potential client, to hear all the bs they have to say in order to persuade someone to go for that marketing technique.  Cheesy

@Tranthidung are you in contact with the person who hired you to post the bounty, did you get any feedback yet?
2086  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin ATM Operator Coin Cloud Files for Bankruptcy on: February 09, 2023, 09:31:27 AM
The average fee for bitcoin transactions through ATMs is quite expensive, at least around 10%.
Fees can be lower than that. ATM that I was using for years had 4.5% and then in  2020 the owner decided to increase it to 6% and for me that was the last straw as I could easily find much cheaper options so I ended up using ATM as the last resort only (it happened two or three times since then). Fee may seem low, but it adds up over time and it especially hurts when you are buying/selling big amount in one go as then you realize the difference.

If they allowed sales of crypto, that would probably be a different story but all of the ones I've seen don't.
Wait, so the ATMs around you allow you to only buy bitcoin, not sell it? Man that sucks big time. ATM that is closest to me is a 2 way (you can both buy and sell bitcoin) and the right next to it its another (buy only) altcoin ATM that supports 4-5 most popular altcoins. Its pretty much the same thing in few other EU countries that I visited and checked their BATM (its a habit of mine to check on cointamradar if there's bitcoin atm around).

I am hoping that they don't all disappear, because I love the concept of them, just not the fees.
Same here, I really like the concept and the whole little ritual; I would go to the ATM, do the business there and while waiting for transaction to get confirmed (if I was selling) I would sit in a nearby bar and drink beer or two and added bonus was meeting fellow crypto enthusiast that were doing the same thing.

I used to wonder about the profitability for ATM owners, but apparently it's as I imagined, no crazy money. I guess you have to own 50 ATMs or you don't care about the profits.
Yep, their profit margin ain't big at all. Since I was a regular customer of ATM (going like once per week) I kept seeing the owner so one time I actually asked him about profitability and when he mentioned me all the things he had to pay (2x machines that ain't cheap, rent for the place, WiFi, employers, taxes etc) he really doesn't have much room for profit. I don't blame them for having higher fees relative to others, but unfortunately for them there are cheaper ways to buy and sell. Their big advantage used to be no KYC, but now even that is changing and I don't see how that business can survive in the long run.
2087  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 09, 2023, 08:50:15 AM
I wonder if the jury actually watches all the films or they just read about the previous contests to make their minds  Grin

I mean, it's a lot of movies, each one about 2 hours long, that's a lot of movie watching.
All members of Academy (~10k) only vote for Best Picture award, everything else is divided by their professions so for example actors vote for acting awards, screenwriters for screenplay etc so it makes it much easier for them. But in the end, they don't even have to watch the movies they are voting and its safe to assume that some of them don't even watch all the nominated movies, even only in their category. The only award (afaik) where members actually have to watch all nominated movies (there's only 5 of them though) in order to vote  is for the Best International Feature.

Depends on who are included within the jury. Although I would agree when you say that political considerations of the jury can have an impact on the results, it would be wrong to assume that all of the members have the same political inclination. There maybe left-leaning members of the jury who prefer films such as the Green Book, but at the same time, there may also be members from the other end of the political spectrum. But given the recent developments, it would be safe to assume that a majority of the members would be left-leaning.
Since Academy consists of  ~10k members, of course they can't all have the same views, but I think that its pretty obvious based on the last 2 decades where majority leans, and I see no end to this trend since newer generations of film industry workers are even more left-leaning. As long as Academy worries more about minority quotas and politics rather than the actual quality, Oscar relevance will keep declining. Up until 10 years ago I was staying up whole night (due time difference) just to watch the show live, while now there's no chance to even watch it in the reruns.

Regarding the Best Picture award, its even harder for a movie that doesn't fit Hollywood narrative to win the award because they use preferential voting (for that category only) so there's no chance that a movie that wins let's say 25% votes win an award even though it had more votes than the other nominees and in the end the movie that is more generally liked wins. People say its more fair that way, but I think that removes element of surprise form the awards which is imho a bad thing.
2088  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Kako besplatno dobiti (ili zaraditi) Bitcoin ? on: February 08, 2023, 10:51:45 PM

2089  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Extremely Holding on: February 08, 2023, 09:43:34 PM
How long do you think you can hold?
My oldest stash is ~5 years old and I keep adding more on the regular basis (DCA). Plan is to hold until I can go into an early retirement, or until I really need money for something urgent so I can't really say until when plan to hold but hopefully I will never be forced to sell everything.

Indeed, he has taken a long time to reap the benefits. I still wonder the faith on how long this person must have has and never been tempted to sell the coin all these years.
Why do you assume that owner of those bitcoins never sold any just because he didn't move them for 12 years? People can use more than 1 address in order to hold their bitcoins (like I am doing)  and maybe owner sold most of it long time ago and he is still left with those 412 bitcoins.
2090  Economy / Exchanges / Bitcoin ATM Operator Coin Cloud Files for Bankruptcy on: February 08, 2023, 05:02:57 PM
Seems like yet another big name in crypto won't survive this bear market as Coin Cloiud (according to coinatmradar the world's 2nd biggest ATM operator in the world) filed for bankruptcy, owning between $100 million and $500 million.

Coin Cloud, which operates more than 4,000 bitcoin ATMs across the U.S. and Brazil, has filed for bankruptcy with estimated liabilities of between $100 million and $500 million.

The Las Vegas-based firm has assets of between $50 million and $100 million and as many as 10,000 creditors, according to a filing in the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada dated Feb. 7.

The company's largest creditor is Genesis Global Trading, which has an unsecured loan of just over $100 million. Genesis is a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, which is also the parent company of CoinDesk. Genesis also discussed injecting equity into the ATM operator, Bloomberg reported in November.

I've used Bitcoin ATM for years while there were no better (cheaper) options to buy & sell bitcoin but then competition started showing up that can offer lower fees, making me using BATM only as a last resort and I think that many (at least in my country) do the same so I am not surprised at all to see that companies that offer those services are having troubles.
2091  Economy / Reputation / Re: Multiple accounts (Two Accounts Linked) on: February 08, 2023, 03:34:44 PM
This is some plausible additional evidence about the connection. Thanks for taking your time to connect the dots @Rikafip. He cheated on bounties using his alts.
Yep, both of them joined at least 1 bounty campaign (BiB Exchange) so negative tag is warranted which I now see you did and i was kinda lazy to do it immediately.

Didn't Timelord2067 make a self-moderated thread, deterring newbie accounts from making account connection reports in that thread, or have I been napping for too long?
Ah yeah you are right, I rarely nowadays post in that thread as I kinda got tired of that whack a mole game so I forgot about his "no newbies" rules and only think that they can do si to share link of their investigation so someone can take a look at presented evidence.
2092  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: February 08, 2023, 03:22:37 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if they become one of the most active boards in future, even above Turkish and German boards, and with better forum support for mobile devices they could soon be on top.
Considering how popular Bitcoin is in Nigeria and since they are one of the most populous countries in the world (200+ millions) I think that's just a matter of time before they come very close to German and then Turkish board. On top of that, those two boards are on slow and steady decline in the last few years, like the rest of the local boards.

That is why I think it would be a good decision to do the same thing with Pakistan board, and I wouldn't mind if each local board gets their own native moderator.
Success of the Nigerian local board is another argument for Pakistan board and I hope they won't have to wait a couple of years like Nigerians did.

Make forum upgrade to responsive design or create Bitcointalk app, and I can guarantee overall forum activity will improve a lot.
Yep, there are things that could be done in order to slow the activity decrease and who knows maybe even reverse the trend, but for that some changes have to be made asap and not wait for Epochtalk that will come out God knows when.

Nice to see my local board with the 2nd/3rd in most of the statistics. Are active members who have made at least 1 post in the local board or is it members that have sent a merit or posted in the month? We have a couple of lurkers in the German local board that merit posts but do not post that often.
All those who wrote at least 1 post in a month are counted as active members, sent merit doesn't have to do anything with that chart. Those lurkers who don't write and just send merit are counted for merit senders/merit receivers chart though so their effort still counts for something.

I am surprised that the Russia local board is a lot more active then most other boards though.
Russian board is the most active one since creation (it was the first local board created) back in 2010 and it remained that until today.

2094  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 08, 2023, 10:27:57 AM

This seems like one of the most random bets I've ever seen.
I guess you never bet on Miss World or Eurovision song contest if you think that Oscar betting is random.  Cheesy

It's not like sports betting since usually a strong team will win, this is about how people feel about watching a movie, which can be extremely random.
It may seem that Oscars are completely random, but there are some factors that can help you narrow down who could win. For example, movies that that deal with women, LGBTQ and other minority groups are usually a good choice in the last decade or two. Winning other awards can help too, but not by much.

Another thing that affects the race is amount of money that studio is ready to invest in the Oscar marketing campaign itself which is often measured in tens of millions of dollar and in some cases Oscar marketing campaign can cost more than a movie itself. Good example of that is Roma, movie that cost ~$15 million while Netflix spent more than $25 million for Oscar campaign but in the end it failed to win Best Picture award as it went to Green Book (movie about sort of friendship between white guy and black gay man) instead. Roma was imho far superior movie, but Green Book was more in line with what Hollywood prefers at the moment and on top of that Roma was produced by a streaming site which could also affected its chances (some big names in industry like Steve Spielberg were against movies produced by streaming sites competing in Oscars).
2095  Economy / Reputation / Re: Isn't that cheating? on: February 08, 2023, 09:25:02 AM
According to the latest message from the Telegram group, token distribution was set to start on February 5th. It is now February 8th. I don't see what the problem is. Minor delays in token distribution by the team should not be a reason for alarm.
I don't think that problem here is minor delay of bounty distribution, but one of the team members saying that they have nothing to do with the bounty campaign published by @tranthidung.

tranthidung specifically stated that he is not managing that campaign, and that all communication between the company and the participants will be done via email. Have you sent an email to the company?
He also stated that person in charge of campaign is "Adam Anderson" and he shared his LinkedIn profile (https://www.linkedin.com/in/adam-anderson-717b78214/) and its pretty obvious that he uses stock photo for his profile image which is not a good sign. Its also weird that the only way to contact person in charge of the campaign is via his Linkedin profile and not Telegram.

It may be that people behind EGold simply decided to pretend that they have nothing with that bounty campaign after they saw lack of result (as we've seen this number of times) or that there was miscommunication between person who hired tranthidung to publish the bounty and the actual team. Hard to draw any conclusions about what really happened until he comes here and shares his side of the story.

2096  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Crypto lender Celsius mulls possible restructuring amid financial woes on: February 08, 2023, 07:31:46 AM
Calling it a small fraction if compared to the total money they stole is downplaying it from what they really owe hehehe. It is not a fraction. It is a small drop of water in a wide ocean. According the court filings, Celsius owes $4.3 billion to customers.

$11 million is only .26% of $4.3 billion.
I don't see how I downplayed it by writing "a small fraction", but if we are nitpicking then I could say that you are downplaying the amount that will be paid out because one drop of water makes considerably less than 0.26% of any ocean, or even a bottle of water.  Grin
2097  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 07, 2023, 09:44:56 PM
@Rikafip. Agreed! It will certainly win for the best foreign film. The odds suggests this hehehe, however, because of the speculation that Hollywood will be on a antiwar agenda, the speech will be more heard if this can win one of the important categories.
Well, I don't think that the best foreign film is insignificant award (its not the level of best costume design e.g) so if someone really wants to make anti-war speech, he will be able to do it.

If the director also wrote the screenplay, it might be voted for best adapted screenplay hehehe.
Director (Edward Berger) is also one of the screenwriters, but I don't see why would that fact increase the chances of movie winning a best adapted screenplay award.

I got these odds from Stake, for the best foreign film:

All Quiet on the Western Front: 1.08

As you can see, All Quiet on the Western Front is far ahead of everyone else and is given more than 90% probability of winning. With such high odds, I don't think any other film stands a chance in this category.
Tbh, that bet is bad to me at these odds. I got screwed up enough times on sub 1.2 bets on Oscar winners in the past so one of my rules is that I don't take the odds lower than that. Yeah I know that it will most likely win an award in that category, but I just don't like risk to reward ratio in that specific bet.
2098  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: February 07, 2023, 06:01:58 PM
It's the usual discrepancy between @ddmrddmr Dashboard and @tryninja website then.
According to the merit dashboard the situation is the following:

As you can see the spanish board is leading the french board by 395 posts.
From what I can see, on that screenshot you shared its the amount of merits shared, not posts written.

Regarding posts, numbers that I shared are from the very beginning of those boards meaning since 2011, while Merit Dashboard counts the posts since November 2017. So, even if we count posts only from November 2017, according to Merit Dashboard French board is still ahead of Spanish (131601 vs 54372).

Or maybe you initially wanted to compare the merits shared and not the posts?

Turning back at the analysis I guess the Spanish board has finally surpassed the French board when we consider the total cumulative number of posts written!

While Spanish board has been more active lately, according to ninjastic.space French board is still ahead when it comes to the total amount of posts written since creation of those boards (255,455 vs 218,928).

Of course in January BTC went up quite a bit, but we can make a good comparison with the situation the country is experiencing, with the banking problems and the interest in BTC going up.
It's interesting to see Bitcoin helping people.
Getting their local board also probably played some role in getting their numbers up adn i expect those numbers to keep increasing, given the popularity of Bitcoin in Nigeria.

Portuguese board was in 4th place in december and now it's in 7th place
I think that you have to blame joker_josue for that.  Tongue

While making the charts I saw the name of the Turkish community and I couldn't forget about the earthquake related news.

I want to leave here my feelings for the whole Turkish community.

+1. I keep thinking about tragedy that happened in Turkey the whole day yesterday and today and I do hope that all our forum members & their families are safe and unharmed.

As usual, I have updated my local race chart:
https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/12312077/[/url]
Thanks, I've updated my overview with it. Btw, I planned to contacted you before publishing but somehow completely forgot about it. Next time I will make sure to contact you before publishing,

I took some seconds to understand what those numbers really mean, maybe you could improve the Legend with a title for it.
You are absolutely right about this as i thought about the exactly the same thing after I publsihed the overview but I was kinda too bored to correct it at that moment. Anyway, its been sorted now and I hope its easier to understand.

I would also try versions without 100stacked, but it may be hard to see small communities.
I think that 100+ group might be an overkill, but maybe something like 30+ group would be more feasible. I will look into it for the next overview but for now I will keep it as it is.
