1981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think will happen once Hong Kong legalizes bitcoin? on: February 22, 2023, 02:57:28 PM
As Hong Kong is going to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender, Hong Kong is taking this step realizing the far-reaching value of Bitcoin.
If you bothered to read the other posts in this topic other than the one written by OP ((even he didn't say that) you would see that Hong Kong has no plans to make Bitcoin as a legal tender and instead just make it easier for people to buy/sell/trade. While that's a positive news nevertheless, its far from making bitcoin legal tender and I have no idea how you came to that conclusion.
1982  Other / Archival / Re: [REQUEST] Do something with the HYIPs section on: February 22, 2023, 02:18:59 PM
Bitcointalk sometimes reminds me of slow people from a cartoon...
So you want to say that even you as a mod can't really speed up that process of getting new child boards/locking the useless ones? If that's true, it sucks big time.

So while a scammy section like that would seem appropriate in the Russian board, it kinda doesn't.  Nor is Russia the only place where scams are prevalent.
Exactly. But for some reason Russian local board is the only one that created a safe place for them to spam their useless bot-like crap.
1983  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's highest amount instant exchanges can be trusted with? on: February 22, 2023, 12:00:51 PM
Personally, I just use the typical spot exchange like KuCoin as they currently don't enforce AML/KYC. Been using it for years now without submitting AML/KYC; but of course don't expect it to be like this forever.
I have also been using Kucoin for years without KYC done (very occasionally though, 3-4 times per year max) but I never sent more than a few hundreds of dollars worth of crypto there because I know that they can ask for it anytime so I basically send only the amount I am willing to lose as I have no intention to go through KYC there.

What's your plan in case they ask for KYC?
1984  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance's 98% Dominance: Should We Be Worried? on: February 22, 2023, 10:50:40 AM
also, i believe that trust is with binance owed to its SAFU, an insurance to its users. so whether binance is hacked or got into trouble, users are confident that they can get their funds because of this insurance.
That's one of the biggest mistakes you can do, think that your money is safe on Binance just because of the SAFU fund. While that can maybe cover smaller hacks, in case shit hitting the fan like in FTX case that SAFU thing will be meaningless and you can say goodbye to your money.
1985  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance's 98% Dominance: Should We Be Worried? on: February 21, 2023, 05:33:07 PM
Volume dominance clearly shows that Binance is the most trusted exchange right now but it doesn’t give much concerned since their founder is clearly dox and will not runaway. If ever he will runaway, There’s no way he can hide all those coin away from the public eyes.
Lol. Did you sleep over the last year or so? Celsius CEO (Alex Mashinsky) was doxxed, FTX CEO (Sam Bankman-Fried) was doxxed as well and we can see how that ended up for their users. Just because Binance is at the top at the moment and CZ is a known person doesn't meant that things can't go south.

At one point in time Mt.Gox was even bigger than Binance is now (relative to the market size) and that didn't end up well either, meaning no matter how big an exchange is, it doesn't mean that it can't bankrupt. People should stop treating exvchanges like banks because they aren't. If you have to use CEX, use it for that they are intended for (trading) and after you are done, withdraw funds to your own non-custodial wallet.

While I seriously doubt that Binance market dominance is as big as claimed in the topic title, I don't think that its good for market to have exchange that controls majority because the bigger exchange is, bigger the influence on market will be in case of fail.

1986  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 21, 2023, 05:08:42 PM
As for the probability of it winning in the Best Picture category, of course it's not that high, but definitely much more than 1%. Remember Parasite winning the Oscar for the Best Picture 3 years ago? To me Triangle of Sadness is a similar film, criticizing the rich and the poor in an amazingly funny manner.
There are similarities in the subject of those movies, but while Triangle of Sadness is a total underdog with not a good chances for a win, Parasite was the 2nd favorite (the only one ahead was 1917) that before Oscar won a couple of BAFTA and Golden Globe awards so it already had a decent resume. I might be totally wrong here, but I see Parasite winning was in part of compensation for Roma not winning an award the previous year and making it the first non-English spoken movie that won Best Picture award. Don't get me wrong, it is a quality movie and deserving winner (albeit for me the best one that year was probably The Marriage Story) but South Koreans made better ones in previous years that unfortunately weren't recognized.

He was recognized by many for his outstanding performance in Aftersun, and I think he deserves a bet on him, especially with those odds.
He did a very good job and these are the good odds, but they are so high for a reason. For me personally Colin Farrel did the best job while I still haven't seen The Whale (it became available today on torrents so I'll probably watch it in the next few days) and since I like the odds (~6) I will go for him.
1987  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 21, 2023, 12:48:04 PM
No! I underestimated the effect of winning Bafta on the oddsmakers' decisions
Big part for that odds drop is due the fact that All Quiet won the most awards and that's something that barely anyone expected. I kinda expected 1917 winning many awards few years ago (it was their movie after all and it also won 7), I didn't expect so many awards for this one. I guess Brits are fan of war movies.

This is the type of odds changes that happened on Coda.
While odds on Coda were initially very high (~26  after nominations were released), few days before the ceremony odds dropped to only ~2 and Power Of The Dog was a slight favorite with ~1.8. I will wait a little bit more to see how situation develops and if odds keep dropping sharply I might bet on it so another CODA doesn't happen to me. Tongue
1988  Other / Archival / Re: [REQUEST] Do something with the HYIPs section on: February 21, 2023, 10:10:57 AM

This is the only section in the Russian locale in which a stream of shit flows. Even in the politics section, the posts are more relevant and valuable than in the HYIPs section.
Let me guess; you tried reporting those posts in the past and reports were marked as bad, right? If Ann thread bumping spam is deleted I see no reason why this shouldn't be either, but this is just one of those things on bitcointalk that doesn't make much sense.

I think that problem here might be that even your own admin thinks that those are legit posts made by genuine users and not bots, even though its pretty obvious what's going on there.

You misunderstood, these users are not rewarded for their posts in this thread. They post reports about received remunerations in HYIP projects, in which they participate. Also rewards from Profit-Hunters BIZ project for participation in various quizzes, referral rewards and rewards received in various bounties. Thus, they confirm that these projects are not some kind of scams, but normally working projects where you can earn money.
1989  Other / Archival / Re: [REQUEST] Do something with the HYIPs section on: February 21, 2023, 09:46:24 AM
The fact that Russian local is the only one with a special board just for HYIP scams always baffled me. I mean, who would want to have something like that in your local board that produces nothing but spam and and add absolutely no value? Imho, that cesspool should be closed and all those who want to promote that crap can do it in Investor-based games board where that stuff is usually shared.

Is there some post in your local board that explains the reasoning behind creating board just for that? Were other boards spammed with this so it was the way to contain them in one place or something along those lines?
1990  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak (filmovi, serije, knjige etc) on: February 21, 2023, 09:22:11 AM

1991  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie account got a username change ! First one in my eyes on: February 21, 2023, 08:49:35 AM
He didn't submit a preferred username to thymos; he simply stated that he would be fine with any random username as long as his real name was removed, and the admin fixed that up with some random letters, which I'm sure in the next 2-3 years when he becomes a more established member, he will request a name change because this is not something anyone can pronounce or remember while quoting.
He didn't exactly say that he would be fine with any random letters as he even gave a suggestion so they could have changed it to that rather than this "mxfwzzwizqbz" due the reason you mentioned in your post.

I don't care what you guys change it to, you can change it to Michael23913 or something like that but please I just want to remove my last name from my account. I don't want my full name on this thing lmao
1992  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak (filmovi, serije, knjige etc) on: February 21, 2023, 08:40:50 AM

1993  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak (filmovi, serije, knjige etc) on: February 21, 2023, 08:07:32 AM
Vecinu proslog tjedna sam proveo gledajuci The Vietnam War. 10 epizoda i preko 16 sati materijala cine ovo najdetaljniji dox o vijetnamskom ratu.

1994  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie account got a username change ! First one in my eyes on: February 21, 2023, 07:17:13 AM
I definitely didn't see that coming but congrats to him. He could have at least chose a "normal" username instead what it looks like a bunch of random letters. Maybe he thought that he will be more anonymous that way.  Cheesy
1995  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your profit taking strategy? on: February 20, 2023, 05:17:07 PM
I used to have (or at least I thought that I had) a profit staking strategy but then I realized that every time bitcoin would reach my set price, I would sell only a small portion of what I initially planned and just kept hodling the rest while waiting for another bull run. So far this tactic worked great and I have way more bitcoin that I thought I would several years ago.

With that being said, I do spend bitcoin on the regular basis on everyday stuff (monthly sub for VPN, IPTV, Netflix, Disney etc - some are done directly with bitcoin and some via crypto debit card) and I try to time big expenses when (house renovation, new car etc) I think that bitcoin price is high enough.
1996  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 20, 2023, 04:40:34 PM
I can see cinematography going to AQOTWF because that really has some great ones, there is no doubt about that and I would give them that. But the best movie? Really? I do not think that it was the best movie at all, I do not think that it was even in the top two for me, hell probably top three.
If you don't think that All Quiet on the Western Front wouldn't be a worthy winner, what would you say about the last year's winner CODA (an average remake of an already average french movie made few years earlier)? Even better, take a look at the last 10-15 winners and name me a few that will be remembered in a few decades as great movies? Just to add that its not the best movie of the last year for me neither, but it wouldn't be undeserved if it wins in the end as we had far worse movies winning in the past.

In any case, just because a movie won the BAFTA, doesn't mean they are getting the Oscars, I think that is as irrelevant as it could get.
Of course it doesn't and I don't think that anyone said that. All it does is affects the odds slightly and that's about it.
1997  Other / Meta / Re: Why not force bounties off site? on: February 20, 2023, 03:14:41 PM

This whole post is utterly useless. And there are millions of them!
I might be wrong here, but I think those "proof of authentication" post are seen as similar to the signature campaign applications so that might be the reason why they don't get deleted even if you report them. And I don't think that bounty hunters get any tokens in exchange for writing them so it can't be seen as breaking the rule about incentivizing posting.

Insisting on useless bounty reports posts, they actually stimulate further spam. and I'm almost sure that none of the managers checks every report and every link posted.
Imho, the main reason why bounty managers still stick to bounty reports inside bounty topics instead doing it via Google form is because that way their bounty campaign gets bumped to the topic, making it visible to other bounty hunters. I mean, that seems like the only logical reason to still insist on them because Google form makes way more sense if you want to make your job as easy as possible.

The main problem why it's spam because there's no limit for the participants, maybe in the future theymos would add restrictions to force at least Member rank to join or have specific maximum participants.
Not gonna happen as theymos is not a fan of any type of newbie jail. After all, why should forum staff even have to deal with that, it should be bounty manager's job to sort it out.
1998  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Will it be considered as Ponzi (Strange Bank) on: February 20, 2023, 09:53:57 AM
Okay thank you for the hint, I never knew how to become a DT member though I was thinking is due to your availability and activeness on the forum or that automatically makes one a DT member. I think I have got an insight of how it works now.
In that case I think that you might wanna read LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system so you have a full understanding on how it works before you start sharing feedbacks and adding/removing people on your Trust list.
1999  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: February 20, 2023, 09:51:26 AM
I use the Grammerly app, which I installed on my PC and use for research and writing; it helps me suggest possible sentence corrections, comma punctuation marks, and all that.

I want to know if this kind of correction is considered AI generated.
Open to learning and also taking corrections thanks.
Grammarly is used to correct the grammar mistakes in the text written by yourself, you don't have to worry that you will be accused of plagiarism. On the other hand, chatbots like ChatGPT write texts by themselves so in that case it may be considered plagiarism if you try to pass it as your own.
2000  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Will it be considered as Ponzi (Strange Bank) on: February 20, 2023, 09:19:40 AM
Well I would have done that but due to I am not a DT member I can't just give tag. So if there's anything that needs to be tag I will request those DT members to tag them.
Just because you are not on DT yet doesn't mean that you shouldn't leave feedback. The only way to end up there is by DT member adding you on his Trust list and that won't happen until you start leaving feedbacks. So, if you think that someone is scammer, leave appropriate feedback.

The returns is obviously noticable, how can a project offers promise to offer 10k return of investment how does it sound to your hearing. Legit or fake?
They offer return in their tokens (and they can mint those as much as needed) not in other currency that they don't control. Whether those kind of shitcoins can have any value is another question, to which answer is quite obvious.
