2241  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: January 16, 2023, 02:39:52 PM
There are so many posters out there who never venture outside of the local boards.
For this reason I think local boards are so important for the forum, and providing them good content is a vital objective for the forum (and where I try to give my humble contribution
Couldn't agree more with this. This forum can be a confusing place for a newbie and local boards definitely help. I mean, I've been active on various forums for ~20 years, wasn't new in crypto and have no problem understanding English yet it was helpful to have group of people that speak my language in that first period when i was getting used to this forum. And now imagine how it is for someone who is new to crypto, has no previous experience on any other forum and struggles with English.

I hope you won't forget your monthly update with December date. I now use this data in 2 reports of mine, the local boards race and my Portuguese Board consolidation.
No worries about that, I haven't missed making monthly overview in last 3 years since I created this thread and certainly won't miss last month's overview.

If we’re considering data for a whole year, the top range, 10 posts (although +) is less than an average of 1 post per month on the lower end of the range, which is a small contribution, and perhaps gets too mixed-up in the same segment with the real heavy posters.
Yeah you are right, I was too conservative and still thinking like I am making monthly overview and not yearly.

As I said, the above is tentative, and subject to what you see in the data, and how much of an effort it implies. Perhaps just to emphasize that it’s interesting to separate the heavy posters and the very sporadic posters as separate groups (as I did above), and break down all between figures into something manageable.
Things get more complicated when you have to include boards that very different in terms of activity. I am still checking things out but I am leaning towards making 4 groups: 1-9 posts, 10-49, 50-99, 100+. Eventually I may add one more groups for those extra active (500+) but I am still not sure about it as not many boards would have members in that bracket.

That's beautiful! I didn't expect we had this lot of people active in the local thread. I was expecting somewhat 100 or +-10 lol but this number seems great though we had a lot less posts + merit than others. Still, it's great achievement.
Keep in mind that even those who wrote a single post in a whole are counted, so that's why numbers are somewhat inflated.
2242  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: January 16, 2023, 10:32:53 AM
Another interesting exercise that can be done for a given local board, which is quite revealing, is to break down the number of active posters on a given local board into groups, based on the number of posts that they've made.
That's exactly what I planned to do but then I scratched that idea due sheer laziness. Grin Initial idea was to divide users into 3 groups: those who wrote 1 post, then group for 2-9 posts and 3rd for all that made 10+ posts. Does that make sense to you?
I might even try to do it today and if I can make it look good I'll update the overview with the new chart.
2243  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: January 16, 2023, 09:50:43 AM
As I promised couple of weeks ago, here is the first yearly overview of the local board activity. Main reason for this overview is to be able to compare and follow the situation in following years. Since this month I have to make 4 overviews I will keep it brief & simple and if you have any other ideas what should I add, please let me know.

All charts and tables were made using data from @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space. Communities marked with * don't have their own local board (yet).

Post activity per local board during 2022

During above mentioned period 193839 posts were made across 18 local boards/communities with Russian board far ahead the others, followed by Turkish and German board far behind them and at the bottom we have usual names that we see in similar positions in  those monthly overviews. It is also encouraging to see that one of the communities without local board (Pakistan) is so high on the chart, while I expect the one that recently got their own local board (Nigerian) much higher on the next year's overview.

Number of active members per local board during 2022

Overall, 5960 members wrote at least 1 post in one of those 18 local boards. I thought about setting requirement much higher as if someone writes 1 post during a year it can be hardly counted as an active member, but since I set the same requirement for monthly overview, in the end I went with the same number.

Anyway, Russian board has by far the most members who wrote at least one post, while Germans and Turks changes the position compared to post chart and the only one that was somewhat close to them was Indonesian board, while all the others were far behind.

Merit shared per local board during 2022

During 2022, total amount of 71009 merits were shared. I don't have the info from 2021, but since theymos introduced new merit sources last year, I am fairly certain that number increased significantly when compared with previous period. Once again Russian board is far ahead the others with 18226 merits shared, followed by Turkish (9735) and German (9621).

Merit senders and receivers per local board during  2022

When we are looking at overall numbers for 2022, 1098 members send merit and 1963 members received merit across 15 local boards. Pakistan and Bangladesh are missing here as I only have that info for those with their own local boards and hopefully next year there will be at least 1 more local board on his chart. Another reminder that boards are ordered based on the amount of merits shared.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for 2022

Since Arabic board was consistently if not the top then 2nd board with highest merit.post ratio in those monthly overviews, its no surprise that it is far ahead the others in yearly chart too and very same can be said about those that were at the bottom in monthy charts, namely Pilipinas, Greek and Indian that are very far behind the others. Beside those few local boards, I think that situation geenrally looks pretty good and probably much better than in previous years.

The most active members per local board during 2022

Last but not the least, list of those who kept their boards alive and kicking during last year. Among all of them, the most active one was joker_josue with 3282 posts written in Portuguese board, followed by DdmrDdmr who wrote 2076 posts in Spanish board and Ratimov at the 3rd spot with 1998 posts written in Russian board.

2244  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: XQtraders turned out to be scam on: January 16, 2023, 09:02:56 AM
How do I create non-custodial wallet?
There are many non-custodial wallets around, but I would suggest you to get Electrum which is also open-source, meaning community was able to thoroughly checked it out to make sure there is no malicious code that could make you lose your bitcoin. Here is a good guide on how to use it and if that's not enough, there is also a dedicated Electrum board on bitcointalk and you can find it here.

Just to note that if you plan to store bigger amount of bitcoin, hardware wallet would be a safer option.
2245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Btc get to $12k or $10k on: January 16, 2023, 07:49:13 AM
Yes but bitcoin is not going below $10000, even bitcoin may not go below it lowest price last year again which is $15400. Bitcoin may decrease back but not going below that price and what we are going to notice later on is that the price will reach ATH.
Many (read almost everyone) said that bitcoin won't go below previous all time high just because it never done that before, and we can see how that prediction ended up. Many things can happen to drive the price below 10k, like for example Binance or Tether going down (and there is always a chance for that to happen) which would almost certainly drive the price below $10k, and probably even much lower than that.
2246  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Teach me how on: January 16, 2023, 07:39:19 AM
If the forum's search engine sucks as both of you've identified (I've noticed it too) then it's about time something is done on that. The few times I tried to search stuff on the forum it was herculean getting through.
Well, something has been done already - TryNinja made ninjastic.space so for me search option is not a problem anymore. It is a 3rd party solution but I am OK with that, like I am OK with using Telegram bot for notifications instead waiting that feature to be implemented on bitcointalk (which probably never will, even on Epochtalk).
2247  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: XQtraders turned out to be scam on: January 15, 2023, 09:35:05 PM
On Google search I came across a website called programinspect.com that do research on trading website to review it  to see if it is legit or not. Is it also a scam or research was not done properly?. Xqtraders trading website pretend  to be legit at first but turn to scam at the end. Anyone know if programinspect.com is legit or done by scammers?
So I checked some of their reviews and in my opinion they can't be trusted and they are getting paid to write a positive review for an obvious scam, or they are making money via referral links. For example, they concluded that Lunofund is a legit while in reality it was nothing but a ponzi scheme hidden behind "bitcoin mining" that offered completely unrealistic 2% daily profit. They do write negative reviews, but it is justa  tactic to appear more legit, like they are really testing the sites.

Rule of thumb: any website offering you more than few % APY is a straight scam, that simply won't last for longer period of time. Instead of wasting your time and money with these dodgy websites, why don't you just buy bitcoin instead and store it in your own non-custodial wallet?
2248  Other / Off-topic / Re: My story and where it is now..... on: January 15, 2023, 09:08:57 PM
Been sitting in this dang hospital 11 days now and going a little crazy just being able to lay here. They come in everyday doing their rounds and keep telling me it's a mental game. They have no news, just hurry up and wait. It's frustrating.
I can only imagine how it is for you to wait while not being able to move at all. I waited for my transplant for approximately two months while being home and it wasn't fun at all even though I wasn't bed ridden like you which makes situation worse. The most annoying part for me was that everyone around me was worried and scared and for some reason I was completely calm and 100% sure that everything will be fine. I guess survival mode kicked in and you have no option really other than psyche yourself into positive thinking. I hope its the same for you as this approach helped me a lot. Anyway, hang on buddy!

I don't want to compare this with you and I don't know if you can watch movies, but your situation reminds me a lot on old movie called Misery from 1990, with James Caan and Kathy Bates.
Oh lol, I sure hope he won't have the same experience with one of the nurses as did the poor James Caan in that movie.  Cheesy
2249  Economy / Economics / Re: Save yourself from Address Poisoning Attack on: January 15, 2023, 08:45:48 PM
First of all, you posted in wrong board. Guides like these belong more to Beginners & Help or eventually Scam Accusations board (as this is a type of scam).
2nd, there are already several threads with the same topic being created in the last week so you might check that before posting.
3rd, vast majority of your thread is a direct copy/paste. Sure, you cover yourself from plagiarism accusation by sharing reference link, but everything that you copied word for word should be easily recognizable from your own words, meaning you should use quote option for verbatim copy.
2250  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 15, 2023, 08:37:25 PM
I voted 3-5 and I personally know 4 of them in real life that have account here (just to note that I knew all those people long before I ever heard about bitcointalk). Even though they are all still very much in crypto and have been for years, unfortunately none of them are active here anymore. I tried talk them into coming back several times, but to no avail.
2251  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Btc get to $12k or $10k on: January 15, 2023, 08:27:56 PM
Let me check my crystal ball and I'll get back to you.  Cheesy

Joke aside, no one knows the bottom (or top) and those who think they do (like those people you mention) are full of shit and you shouldn't listen to them. If you are asking about the bottom because you are waiting to invest, I think that you consider DCA investment method so you don't have to worry about tops and bottoms and instead focus on  acquiring more bitcoin. On the other hand, if you are trader and you came here to ask us where it is going, then I would suggest you that trading is maybe not for you.
2252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper wallet for BTC used to be the best on: January 15, 2023, 11:17:04 AM
The issue is that it can not be used more then one time, since the change address will usually not be part of the paper wallet. So fo every transaction you will need a new paper wallet that is not compromised.
Why would you have to change the address for every transaction when you can simply send bitcoin to the same one? I am doing the same thing with my Ledger, sending bitcoin to the same address for a long term hodl.
2253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper wallet for BTC used to be the best on: January 15, 2023, 10:39:16 AM
Between paper wallet and hardware wallet which one is more superior than the other for Bitcoin?
For vast majority of people hardware wallet is the way to go because beside hardware wallet being more convenient for use, its not so easy to properly make a paper wallet, without messing up one of the steps and that could have dire consequence.

2254  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Godisnji pregled aktivnosti domaceg podforuma on: January 15, 2023, 08:38:59 AM
Naime, velika vecina kampanja je vezana uz gambling a upravo taj dio foruma nema nikakav pad nego naprotiv cak i konstantno raste u zadnjih par godina.

2255  Other / Meta / Re: Monthly Report Statistics on: January 14, 2023, 10:08:36 PM
This happens when you create a system for ranking up in a pyramidical structure form, in a long term you'll be left with a group of high ranks, decreasing traffic, number of off topic posts to report, forum needs to be fed with new blood. One way for it is by removing merit from the ranking requirement, another way is by giving merits and smerits to reporters. Personally having smerits is an incentive for me to actively report.
If someone can't be bothered to write a half-decent post (as that's all that is needed in order to get merit) I really doubt that it will want to go around and report shitposts of others. If anything, meriting reporters will only lead to abuse of the system where people will use alt accounts to write shitposts and then report them on the main one. It would be a perfect system for account farmers, and that's something that is much harder now due existing merit system.
2256  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 14, 2023, 01:01:03 PM
Like for example the whole thing with the difference is the winner of best actor, Austin Butler looks like 6.00 odds here, third, not even second and yet we still see him be the winner, along with Colin Farrel as well, who is second but no Brandon Fraser anywhere.
I already explained the (imho) reason for such a big difference between Golden Globe odds and Oscar odds for best actor award but here it is again.

First of all, Golden Globes have two different awards for the best actor: "Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama" and "Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy" while Oscar has only one, which automatically means that for example Austin Butler and Colin Farrel can't go against each other. 2nd reason why odds on Austin Butler were so low is because Brendan Fraser (his only serious contender) has serious beef with Golden Globes organization (he accused their former president of sexual assault) and said that he has no plans of even attending the ceremony so of course no one expected Brendan Fraser to win, which reflected in lower odds for Austin Butler (he did a good job in "Elvis" but I personally didn't like the movie much, mainly because Baz Luhrmann's directing style).
2257  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature Primary Purpose (Advertising or Gift) on: January 14, 2023, 12:40:53 PM
Actually I had the same claim that compaign primary purpose from signature compaign is to advertise and spread their project although they will accept those who have high quality posts and we can say that Bitcointalk celebrities . Without wearing signature no compaign will give you any cent.
Regarding the bolded part, that was maybe the case years ago but situation now is completely different. There's way more spots in signature campaigns than there are quality members and that happened due combination of increased amount of campaigns and decreased number of active members. Result of that is that even shitposters can get into one and earn decent amount of bitcoin.
2258  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX Exchange might be brought back online - Would you use it again? on: January 14, 2023, 07:29:23 AM
It seems to me there is a special treatment for SBF and FTX. It seems powerful individuals are trying to restore the image of SBF. Rather than determining SBF's accountabilities in all of this, they seem to be doing him a favor by trying to build back everything. SBF is seemingly treated more of a victim than a criminal.
This is what all those political donations get you so that's why mainstream media was surprisingly soft on him while on the other hand they are usually very harsh with everything crypto related and can't wait to bash bitcoin. Good example of that was that shameful The Washington Post article from few months ago in which autor praised him for donating money for covid related stuff, forgetting to mention (or even hinting) that he used someone else's money to do that.

Whatever happens, if I were a user of FTX, I would never use the platform again.
You maybe wouldn't, but if there's no lack of something in crypto that's ignorant suckers.
2259  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Teach me how on: January 14, 2023, 07:17:42 AM
My advice to you is to just ignore forum search and instead use TryNinja's https://ninjastic.space/ which is much better for anything search related, especially if you are looking for duplicate topics. Here you can ask questions if you have any issues using this tool.

tell me if i am wrong or right experts
I am far from expert, but I find it interesting that after this pump you immediately changed your opinion and now you think that bottom is in. Wouldn't those who manipulate the market want people to think exactly that, in order to maximize their profit?

I would like to be wrong but somehow I don't think that we are out of the woods yet and I think that it is still possible that we go down more.
