1961  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 25, 2023, 03:05:55 PM
Seems to be one of those great movies that you always remember about them, a classic let's say.
Shouldn't you at least watch a movie before you make such assumption? Time will tell, but I don't see this version becoming classic even if it wins Best Picture Oscar. It is a good movie, but its not that good or groundbreaking (like 1930 version was) was eventually deserve that status.

That is very true. The director of Parasite himself, Bong Joon Ho, made several movies that, in my opinion, are among the best movies of all times. My personal favorites are Memories of Murder (2003) and Mother (2009), but I know that movie fans and film critics adore his other movies too. Park Chan-wook, Kim Ki-duk, Park Hoon-jung, all of them deserved Oscar, and when Parasite won the Oscar for Best Picture, to me it was the recognition of all Korean films I loved so much.
Memories of Murder is probably my favorite South Korean movie (Oldboy is very close at the 2nd place) and 2000s were probably the best decade of South Korean cinema. Even though they still make quality stuff (for example an excellent Burning that is made year before Parasite and is imho even a better movie), I feel like there is a slight drop in the amount of quality movies they made in the recent years.
1962  Other / Meta / Re: Auto merge back-to-back comments on: February 25, 2023, 12:10:19 PM
I have seen this feature somewhere where if you make several comments in faster session in same topic and no one has commented after you, posts get merged automatically.
Hah, I've used probably dozens of various forums and I never saw something like that. It must be some type of modern forum software that does stuff like that.

Not necessary ofc but would be nice, what do you think?
I don't think that consecutive posts are such a problem that we would need something like that, and I doubt its so trivial to implement. After all, there are far more important features that would make this forum betetr so I don't expect theymos would waste his time on this.

Report the posts, it will all be merged. All the posts that I have reported before to be merged are usually merged, all of them. Mprep do not take that as a joke at all and do merge it.
OP is not a noob so he probably knows that mods can sort that out, but point of his suggestion is to make it automatic.

Damn, you could have warned us with a "spoiler alert" before sharing that information!  Cheesy
Oh ffs, I am really sorry, I edited it now. I am usually very careful with these kind of things and I this was a total brainfart. /facepalm

1964  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: [Meta] Andamento sezione italiana on: February 24, 2023, 06:16:25 PM
Ciao a tutti!

1965  Economy / Reputation / Re: WatChe and MusaPk Alt?! on: February 24, 2023, 05:41:53 PM
But if someone applies with two alts, as long as they don't finally join the campaign with both, I don't think it's wrong. I mean maybe he applies with both because he is not sure if he will be accepted, but let's imagine he is accepted with both alts. If he finally joins with only one he would not be breaking the rules, I understand.
Considering how things work on bitcointalk, do you really believe that an average member (who is usually hiding the fact that he has more accounts in signature campaigns) would join with one account only while being accepted with more? Honor system doesn't work around here and everything that can be abused for financial gain, will be.

OP is a newbie and his first post is related to reporting alt accounts, First of I would like to ask OP which one is your alt account as it puts me in wonder that you are reporting 2 members from a local Community which truly means you are from Local community and to maintain your reputation in the local community you don't want to show up with your original account. (It's Just a case)
None of this doesn't matter really as there is nothing wrong with creating an alt account. What it matters though is whether OP provided evidence strong enough to prove those two accounts are indeed connected. So far he failed at that and unless he can find address connections, it will probably stay that way as similar posting style usually isn't enough for a tag.

1966  Economy / Reputation / Re: User @Amph - sale of BTT account via PM! on: February 24, 2023, 02:28:26 PM
I see that other members still have doubts, but if necessary, I am ready for one of the respectable members of the forum to get an insight into my account and confirm that the PM is real.
Given the circumstances (he admitting sending you a PM, not willing to provide screenshots of rest of the conversations), I don't think that there is real need for you to do that. And I didn't get the impression that people don't believe you (I personally don't think that you would go through such a hassle just to entrap some account seller), its just that situation is kinda weird (I don't think I saw something similar before) so people may be a little bit more cautious before making the judgment.

1967  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: February 24, 2023, 09:41:43 AM
I guess this indictment will be the least of worries to SBF since some of his buddy politicians he "donated" to are currently in power
They have already been asked to give back the money (if not willfully then by court order) and they might wanna distance themselves from him so I am not so sure how much protection he's gonna get.

What does unlawful unlawful political contributions and defraud the federal election commission imply? Are they trying to imply that Sam was bribing some politicians?
You can find detailed explanation here (pages 34-36), but from what I could understand, among others things he gave more money than allowed in one year and then tried to conceal it.
1968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 24, 2023, 09:18:40 AM
I speculate that it might drop more after the Oscar votes are completed on March 2 to March 7.
Its definitely possible, I just checked the https://m.nicerodds.co.uk/academy-award and I think that odds on Everything Everywhere All At Once dropped slightly, which is a good thing for all those betting on All Quiet.

This is certainly a good movie for it because it ended with the German soldiers not wanting to go back on the field anymore after being given their last orders by their uncaring leaders and generals.
Warning, spoiler: Hm didn't movie ended in a total opposite way, by that officer sending bunch of soldiers into last battle just before armistice started, causing more unnecessary deaths?

Interestingly, the movie received harsh criticism from German critics, who found fault with its simplistic adaptation of a cherished literary classic and its historical inaccuracies. Additionally, Netflix has been accused of turning the movie into an "Oscar-bait" war spectacle, though some speculate this is all part of a savvy marketing tactic.
Some people keep forgetting that there is a difference between movies and documentaries and war/history movies are rarely accurate and usually contain some fiction, even if they were an adaption of a novel like in this case. I would also like if movie followed the novel more closely as I think some scenes would make movie better, but that's just how it goes with adaptations and movies are never as good as the novels they are based on.

Regarding movie being an Oscar bait, I didn't really have that feeling while watching so I googled it a little bit to see what others said about it and I found one harsh critic accusing movie exactly of that, and then as an example of a good war movie he mentioned Fury, which is one of the worst war movies I've seen.

Just to add that for me it isn't even in a top 3 among the nominated ones, but I wouldn't mind if it wins a Best Picture Oscar since that would mean that Everything Everywhere All At Once didn't win it .  Cheesy
1969  Economy / Reputation / Re: User @Amph - sale of BTT account via PM! on: February 23, 2023, 05:23:36 PM
sure some random guy pointed your profile in  A PRIVATE chat on telegram, come on don't be a moron, that is an undeniable proof that you comunicate wiht me via telegram, otherwise i would never send a private msg to you
Can you share screenshots of the entire Telegram conversation, right from the beginning?

...
Only admins can can see private messages, or mods too? Or for mods to see the PM, it has to be reported? I am asking so at least we can confirm that PM is legit and indeed sent by Ampth (even though I see no reason why Lucius would go through such hassle).
1970  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's highest amount instant exchanges can be trusted with? on: February 23, 2023, 03:46:48 PM
Depends how much money I get 'caught' with. If the amount money I have on the exchange was too high for me to take a loss, then I'd be forced to submit AML/KYC. On the other hand if I can handle the loss, then I'd definitely wouldn't submit AML/KYC.

While I do deposit -> exchange -> withdraw in the span of minutes, I can still get screwed if they suddenly asked for AML/KYC at deposit/withdrawal request.
I asked because a couple of years ago I had to make that decision, whether to go through KYC or not but circumstances were a little bit different.

So, back in early 2019 I deposited  stablecoin on Binance with the intention to buy bitcoin as price was close to the bottom of that cycle (iirc ~3500) and while waiting for a couple of days for the right moment to catch bitcoin as low as possible (noob move ofc), my mobile phone suddenly died and I couldn't find Google authenticator recovery code and the only way to regain access to my account was KYC. After few days of self-deliberation I eventually went through with it as amount was far from negligible and I simply couldn't pass this opportunity to buy dirt cheap btc

Lesson learned though so now on non-KYC exchanges I send only the money I am willing to lose and ofc I am extra careful with 2fa recovery codes.
1971  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members on: February 23, 2023, 03:29:03 PM
Report for spam? I think these guys don't know what spam really is.
If you don't want to answer that's okay, now reporting this PM as spam doesn't make any sense.
Unsolicited PMs are against forum rules so every time you mass send PM to bunch of members, you risk getting tagged and reported to mods and afaik you can every get banned for that. I do agree though that in this case it was an overkill, but to each his own.
1972  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My father thinks I'm working in a shop,he didn't know I'm bitcointalking. on: February 23, 2023, 01:44:01 PM
We all know relying from this signature campaign alone is totally risky, but believe it or not, posting in a signature campaign has given me bigger source of income compared to my day job, certainly because I’m just a minimum wage earner.
I am not surprised at all that some people make more money via signature campaigns than they do via their rl jobs and I think that's one of the great things about bitcointalk. Even theymos is aware of the fact that many people depend on bitcointalk and that's one of the reasons why I don't think that signature/bounty campaigns are going anywhere.

The OP is from one of those countries that (at least judging by the forum activities) is not one of those that really offer any great opportunities in life, so I understand why some people treat the forum as a place where they generate their main income.
I am well aware of that and who knows, maybe I would do the same if I was in their position but I think that whoever is "bitcointalking" only by doing signatures campaigns is limiting himself as there is a whole section where you can offer your services (from the most simple things Telegram/Discord admin that anyone with smartphone can do, to more demanding ones like design etc ).
I would compare it to a bounty hunter issue, but just on a higher level because both of those groups of members are limiting themselves instead of trying to get out of their comfort zone and put more effort into developing skills that can make them more competitive on the job market.
1973  Other / Meta / Re: [TELEGRAM] Yet Another BitcoinTalk Notification BOT (merits, mentions, topics,+) on: February 23, 2023, 11:20:45 AM
Recently, the bot began to show incorrect counts too often. Over the past 1.5 months, I have already had to synchronize twice:

I wonder what it could be related to?
I don't know is it just a coincidence, but I noticed that happening to me after one of those DdmrDdmr merit sprees, so maybe bot bugs out when you receive bunch of merit notifications in a very short period of time.

Btw, I had no idea that its possible to manually set the merit count and I just waited until it somehow evens out by itself.  Tongue
1974  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I check my merit count for the last 120 days on: February 23, 2023, 10:24:13 AM
No need to manually count received merit. Just go to https://bpip.org, enter your name in search field and you will find bunch of info, including merit count in the last 30/90/120/150 days.

And no worries about your question being odd as I also manually counted merit when I started applying for signature campaigns since I didn't know about the existence of bpip.
1975  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance US buys Voyager Digital assets for $1.02 billion on: February 23, 2023, 10:00:26 AM
After bankruptcy court asked lawyers working on the case to revise the documents before he approves them, another obstacle for Binance takeover of Voyager appeared as SEC claims that deal would involve sale of unregistered securities.
Back in January SEC also objected the sale and asking Binance to provide more proof that they can actually afford the case and after that has been settled so it seems to me like they really want to stop this deal. Or maybe they are just extra diligent.  Tongue

Under the deal, “the transactions in crypto assets necessary to effectuate the rebalancing, the redistribution of such assets to Account Holders, may violate the prohibition in Section 5 of the Securities Act of 1933 against the unregistered offer, sale, or delivery after sale of securities,” a filing by the SEC said, citing in particular the VGX token issued by Voyager.

“It is the Debtors’ burden to present credible evidence that the provisions of the Plan are feasible and not in violation of applicable law,” the SEC said. The regulator also cited media reports that Binance is bracing itself to pay penalties for past infractions of money laundering and corruption law as evidence that the deal could become "unfeasible" and “impossible to consummate."
1976  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My father thinks I'm working in a shop,he didn't know I'm bitcointalking. on: February 23, 2023, 08:46:22 AM
Now my father asks me about my shop, and where it's located,I told him I'm bitcointalking, and he doesn't know what I'm talking.
I don't think I know what you are talking about either. What do you mean by "bitcointalking"? Do you mean that you are advertising your services via bitcointalk or that you consider being in a signature campaign as a job and that's actually "bitcointalking". I can understand the former, but seeing latter as a full time job is a very dangerous thing, even if you are from a 3rd world country.

Btw, I think that you just made up a new word lol.
1977  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX Japan resumes fiat and crypto withdrawals today on: February 23, 2023, 07:38:48 AM
I understand they might have been regulated there, but are they state run?? And if the state had a hand in all this are business in Japan free to run a business there way  Cry
Of course FTX Japan isn't state run, its just that in order to get the license there they had to obey their laws, one of which is to insure the funds so in case something happens, users are protected. So you either do that, or you don't operate crypto exchange in Japan.

But FTX isn't only in Japan are you also saying other branches of the company are doing the same of allowing clients to withdraw their aledged lost funds.
Nope, because other branches weren't registered in countries that enforce such strict rules in order to operate.

1979  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: February 22, 2023, 04:12:45 PM
What I also speculate might be the storyline for Sam's trial is it will be mentioned that Changpeng Zhao triggered the dump on FTT, also causing the liquidity cascades on Alameda Research's leveraged trades because they used FTT as collateral and which also caused the collapse of FTX because it credited user deposits to Alameda Research. For this, the backers of Sam might also crackdown on CZ and Binance after the trial.
He will probably try put blame on others if this reaches the trial but I doubt that will work since people closest to him already pleaded guilty and most likely incriminated him as well.

In fact, this could be a good step to partially restore their reputation, especially in Japan, which is indeed one of the countries whose users were hit the hardest after South Korea and Singapore for the fall of FTX.
Nah I don't think that this will help them much to restore their reputation, not even in Japan because FTX is not giving people their money because of the goodness of their heart but because of Japan regulation which forced them to insure the funds. Only because of that FTX Japan users are able to withdraw their money.

The withdrawal of funds was made possible thanks to the legislation passed by Japan regulating the turnover of the cryptocurrency market, which requires cryptocurrency exchange companies to register with the Financial Services Agency (FSA), maintain capital insurance reserves and separate client and exchange assets to prevent abuse .

Due to the sudden collapse of FTX, FTX Japan employees only lost access to the systems used to withdraw funds. Now that access is restored, investors can get their money. However, there are complaints that some users have experienced the loss of records of individual transactions.
1980  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think will happen once Hong Kong legalizes bitcoin? on: February 22, 2023, 02:57:28 PM
As Hong Kong is going to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender, Hong Kong is taking this step realizing the far-reaching value of Bitcoin.
If you bothered to read the other posts in this topic other than the one written by OP ((even he didn't say that) you would see that Hong Kong has no plans to make Bitcoin as a legal tender and instead just make it easier for people to buy/sell/trade. While that's a positive news nevertheless, its far from making bitcoin legal tender and I have no idea how you came to that conclusion.
