A lot of people are emailing me because on my website it says "Pending" in the status of your paid for item, and this is causing some confusion.

Pending meant that your item was paid for but has not shipped yet.

At any rate to halt any confusion caused by this I have changed the status of pending orders to "Confirmed"

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Also - I tried to answer as many emails and Pm's as I could today - I have to put my kids to bed, grab a beer and then pass the F*** out. (damn its been a long day and im tired)

I will be back at all of this tomorrow and thank all of you so much for your support, if you have not received an email response from me please continue to be patient (thank you) I should get to the remaining emails in the morning.

Also guys always feel free to call me at (315) 514-0269 I am usually available during normal business hours, and if I dont answer on the first try best thing to do would be to wait an hour or so and try again. I always answer the phone when I am available.

(wife just stuck her head in the office "TOM ITS 10 O'CLOCK!)

lol I guess that's my queue!

I am off for the day - also good luck to everyone that entered to win a ModMiner Quad!

I am not ready to release this information .... just yet but very soon.

We actually have a new web site being designed right now and with it's launch we are going to launch some more info, specs, pictures etc

for now let me just say there are more chips than just 1 and 2

But don't worry this will all be public information soon.
283  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 01, 2012, 10:07:59 PM
Any luck and we will have power specs verified and published in a few weeks by my software development team

LOL

how big's your dictionary file? Tongue

Anyways  thanks for the input and if anyone has any ideas in this regard please share them - I am actively looking for ways to offer buybacks/rebate/upgrade path for current BTCFPGA ModMiner owners.

thanks!

How about a scrypt firmware - could be sold in that market.

I understand that scrypt requires a good bit of memory with a fast connection to the processor.  These FPGA miners do not have that, so I think we are unlikely to see a scrypt bitstream for them.

yes he is right, as far as I know - no current FPGA Bitcoin mining device is capable of mining scrypt alt-coins
286  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 01, 2012, 04:45:31 PM
Trade in value of only 300$ is a huge loss for most customers =/

So you want Tom to take the loss instead?

PLEASE understand - that was a hypothetical number. It is not a number I am offering. I may not be able to offer anything. I may give you a lot more. I am really not sure yet - this is a priority and am actively researching ways to make this happen that will work for both of us.

I am not sure how BFL can afford to take the full trade in value. They certainly have me beat there because I could not afford to give even half in trade and still make a profit.

Anyways  thanks for the input and if anyone has any ideas in this regard please share them - I am actively looking for ways to offer buybacks/rebate/upgrade path for current BTCFPGA ModMiner owners.

thanks!

Any ETA on when the bASIC will start production?  This is mainly the reason why Tom needs to create a new thread for this.  Or.. is it still too early for speculations?

Production should start by the end of the month.

the chips are being fabricated - the board design is nearly done. The software developers should have some units to work with in a few weeks

289  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 01, 2012, 04:09:24 PM
1) Trade in your ModMiner Quad for a $300 discount on a bASIC unit.
2) Resell your ModMiner Quad to someone for $200 cash
3) Have BTCFPGA spend resources to have developers continue to develop new firmware for the device to make it do other things like crack password files or other specific computational use

I don't think you should get into #3, that would place you in a bad spot legally.

A discount of $300 is acceptable, IMO. However I would like to put myself to purchase others' MMQ's at a comparable price, since I can still run them after the ASICs come out due to cheap(ish) electricity.

When I mean cracking password files, I dont mean for illegal purposes. People crack password files for security testing and even for fun / hobby
(check out http://hashcat.net/oclhashcat-plus/)

Thank you for your input!

I apologize for the harsh tone I took.  I'm sure it's stressful being in your position.  Don't let the trolls bring you down.  I'll try not to be one.

It's OK, I understand - and don't worry we are cool Smiley
291  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does anyone else smell BS?? on: October 01, 2012, 04:04:21 PM
A little over a week ago ngzhang anounced his proposed production of the 'Avalon' ASIC with >= 60Ghs for about $1299 (about double the hashrate of BFL's Single 'SC', and Cablepair's bASIC)

Since then:
BFL have announced their Single 'SC' will now hash at 60Ghs (from 40Ghs) @ $1299
Cablepair has announced their bASIC will now hash at 54Ghs (from 27Ghs) @ $1069 (now selling 27Ghs version @ $599)

Were both BFL and Cablepair originally pricing their units at more than 100%+ markup of the cost of production and development?
Because as i see it they cannot afford to produce these now and make any profit.

Also how have they done it?
1) Are they just doubling the number of boards in each unit? (Only viable option if they have already started PCB production)
Or
2) Have they doubled the number of chips on each board? (Only viable if they haven't started production yet)

In either case i can not see any of these ever hitting the market before Christmas. My money is going firmly back in my wallet until some real devices hit the real world, because all i see at the moment is BS.

If you read this announcement here you will understand
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=79637.msg1229735#msg1229735

Also I can see why your logic would lead you to believe this but it's not your fault - you just dont know some specific things about this industry and this process

1) All the costs for making an asic chip are in research and development - once you have that part of the process completed - making the chips themselves costs a few dollars each.
2) PCB Design / Fabrication is not any kind of complicated or time consuming process and it's no big deal to change things on the design.

I can get an original PCB designed and fabricated in very little time, especially if you want to spend a little extra money.

The last PCB batch I had fabricated for the ModMiner Quad, I had 200 Backplane PCB boards made, and 800 Spartan-6 PCB plugin cards made
the entire process took about 12 days and that includes shipping from China to NY

I am not sure about BFL's speed increase, they would have to answer that - its possible they are just clocking their chips higher, they created a better firmware - or doing what I did (changing the amount of chips per board) or something else all together

but to answer for the bASIC

I had two board designs made - one with twice the amount of chips as the other, originally I was pricing the 27Gh/s board at 1069.99

but, After looking at the financials and talking it over with my engineers I realized it made much more sense just to price the "double  chips" board at what I had originally been selling them at because It would not be right to do to my current customers (to release a faster unit after they had already bought one) instead they got a free upgrade from 27gh/s to 54gh/s and we decided to lower the price of the 27Gh/s board.

hope this clears up any confusion you might have.

thanks! Smiley

ModMiner Quad Customers:

I am trying very hard to work out a upgrade path that makes sense for both of us. I have a potential "re-use" of the MMQ but I am not sure how much I can pay for them in a buy-back program just yet.

So I would like your input:

(Q) What do you think is a "Fair" trade in value

(Q) What is the lowest trade in value you would accept

(Q) What would you rather do?

1) Trade in your ModMiner Quad for a $300 discount on a bASIC unit.
2) Resell your ModMiner Quad to someone for $200 cash
3) Have BTCFPGA spend resources to have developers continue to develop new firmware for the device to make it do other things like crack password files or other specific computational use

please note those numbers are just hypothetical - and I am just gauging interest

thanks!

294  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 01, 2012, 03:03:39 PM
Tom, I'm about to buy from you, please drop the joke issue.
I understand how you feel, and how you could take something personal (intended or not) in a time of grief and lash out, but it is not impressing me as a potential customer.

You both may have acted rashly, but there is a time and a place. I recommend you each offer a final apology on the subject and ignore the other party if they insist on pursuing it.

I've got $5K I'm going to spend this week, don't give me a reason not to spend it here.

You are representing your businesses, and most of us are looking for a business that we can trust, and that knows how to deal with issues that come up. This is an opportunity for us to see how you each will behave in the face of an adverse situation, we are watching.

Hi

I actually just called BFL and left a couple of messages on their voice-mail. I hope they listen to them and take them seriously. I would love it if they would call me back.

I just introduced myself and told them I would like to extend the olive branch and keep things friendly between the two of us. I also stated that I do not want to engage in mud-slinging with them and its not going to help either one of our companies to be going after each other in the forum threads.

Hopefully this puts some resolution on the situation.

 Josh/inaba,

I apologize if I wronged you in any way. I think it's very important for BFL/BTCFPA to keep things friendly, and I think it's in both of our best interest to just drop it - theres really nothing left to say. Have a nice day and good luck

Tom

Wow, this asic news makes me excited. I hate BFL, and always loved the idea behind modminer.
Question, when the ASIC's actually go into shipping and become normal orders on the website will prices be raised or stay the same?
The 27gh/s version looks very tasty atm for me.
Also, what exactly, is the upgrade plan available for the FPGA -> ASIC?
It mentions it on site but doesnt explain what it is, is it a straight trade in for the 54gh/s ASIC?
TY

I will probably AT LEAST be buying one of ur 27GH units at some point in time. If I dont wint a FPGA in coming weeks =P HA!
Your company rocks dude!

Thanks, we get excited when our customers get excited about our products.

let me answer your questions:

1) Prices will stay the same

2) I am currently working out a way where I can afford to give rebates for ModMiner Quad owners or offer some kind of buy back program.

We have something in the works that would allow us to re-use the fpga chips - I will make an announcement as soon as we have something solid here.

Good luck in the contest!

This is what you said

Dude... come on, you can NOT set me up like that.  It's taking all my willpower not to make light of that.  ARRGG

And your telling me that = "Thanks Grandma"

but wait, now I am the liar?
YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEANT BY THAT AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE
297  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 01, 2012, 02:47:54 PM
INABA / BFL_JOSH WHAT DID I MAKE UP? WHAT DID I LIE ABOUT? I HAD JUST COME HOME FROM LITERALLY PUTTING MY GRANDMOTHER IN THE GROUND AND THIS IS WHAT YOU SAY TO ME.

Please everyone - read the dialogue for yourself and make up your mind, for yourselves. Inaba says I lied and said he made a sexually charged joke about my deceased grandmother. If you had just gotten home from your grandmothers funeral and someone says something like that to you - what would you think?

come on cheap-o's Tongue

1

btw Inaba, your lucky I was busy burying my grandmother today or there is no way you would of ended up with all those slots so cheap. Tongue

Dude... come on, you can NOT set me up like that.  It's taking all my willpower not to make light of that.  ARRGG

and nothing has been changed at all from either party because your not allowed to edit your posts in Auction threads.

Now at that time - that really hurt my feelings and pissed me off, I was mourning my grandmother and although he did not actually say the "words to the joke"
he passive-aggressively insinuated the joke instead. How would this make you feel?

and How did I lie?

Thanks for lying about me, Tom. I appreciate it.

BTW - the joke was "Thanks grandma!"

Yeah, really sexually charged there, asshole.  I was trying to be respectful to both you and your grandma.  I'm glad you think of your grandma in sexual terms, tells a lot about your character.

INABA - HOW  COULD YOU FLAT OUT JUST LIE LIKE THIS?

What else could you have meant about those comments? It would be so much better just to be a man an admit you made a tasteless joke that you should not of made. Instead of lying about it and then trying to tie the whole thing in with the products I sell. It's ridiculous man and really I honestly thought much higher of you than to do this.

I am going to contact BFL today and hopefully we can both agree to keep things civil between us. I have tried very hard since we have become direct competitors I have tried very hard not to troll your threads or start negative attacks against you in any way. There are all kinds of shit I could talk and trouble I could start for you guys, but that is NOT my style and I think it's very important that we keep this a friendly competition. Promote BFL and I will promote BTCFPGA. Lets not start tearing each other down, because in the end its not going to matter who fires the first shot - its going to be war, and its trouble neither of us has time for.

298  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 01, 2012, 02:47:24 PM
If you don't want me posting in your thread, then don't post lies about me in your thread.

Tell me what is sexually charged about "Thanks grandma"  You keep failing to answer that.  Is it because you know you lied about the sexually charged bit?

Regardless man, the fact is, you're using your dead grandma to shill your hardware.  Talk about sick, christ.  You used it in the auction thread to garner sympathy and you're using it now to garner more. If you really respected your grandma, you wouldn't be on a forum whining about it, you would have respected her memory by not bringing her into your sales pitches as a sympthy tactic (Serioulsy than, this is sales 101 - "Gain the sympathy of your customers".)  One of my grandma's died several months ago, did you see me on here posting about it?  No, because I respected my grandmother AND the people here enough not to bring her onto Bitcointalk for absolutely no reason, especially not to garner sympathy for my business ventures.

I'm sure many people are falling for it (it's 101 because it works), but seriously.  If you're going to use that, you should at least make it plausible.  So again: What sexually charged remark(s) were going through your mind with regards to your grandma when you made that post?

Answer the question and we can move on.

you are a sick bastard and a liar.

I don't have to explain anything it's right there for the world to see.
299  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 01, 2012, 02:41:40 PM
ok So back to business.

I am right now drinking an enormous cup of coffee

I know a lot of you are waiting for emails / PM's from me

I am going to get to work right now on responding to all of the inquiries.

Also Please like I said last week - let me know if you are still expecting a ModMiner Quad shipment and for some reason you have not received a tracking number yet.

I do believe I have shipped out - all that need to be shipped, but I do have them in stock and don't want to miss out on anyone.

p.s. Happy Monday Morning! Smiley
